Oster Milliken Fry Pan Cast Iron

Oster 72733.01 Milliken 12-Inch Fry Pan Cast Iron, CobaltThis may be somewhat premature, since I've only used this unit twice.

First use was directly on the burner of an electric stovetop. The bottom now has three very tiny pits in the porcelain. They are barely noticeable, and should have no impact on the fry pan. However, the porcelain does seem to be thin.

The inside cleaned up nicely and was almost as easy to clean as non-stick. The weight is definitely cast iron, but lighter than my other cast iron of the same dimension, so my wife likes handling it.

The color is really quite nice, and the cooking surface is still white after the second frying session. The second time, I used an overlay over the burner coil of the cooktop and the bottom is still OK; no changes. This pan probably should be used carefully if directly on an electric coil, or should be used with a coil overlay or on the smoothtop cooking surfaces to lift it off the heat cycling of the burner coil.

I was disappointed to see the small pits, but I do like the weight, nicely sloping sides and large, cool, sturdy handle.

I never put my cookware in the dishwasher, so can't speak to that issue.

So far, I'd give it 4-1/2 stars, only because of the bottom pits, but I plan to continue to use it, reserving the right to revise my review, if anything adverse happens, otherwise, I'll probably purchase the smaller cousin a bit later.

December 23, 2011. Review revision. This skillet (fry pan) still looks like new. It cleans up beautifully every time I use it, outside and inside. I chaven't noticed any additional imperfections.

I've been using this skillet regularly since I posted the review, and I'm impressed with the design and quality. I do wish that I could give a rating between 4 and 5 stars, since the imperfections first noticed drop it below n5 stars, but further use indicates a rating above 4 stars.

I may be wrong about the porcelain's being thin.

I'd buy this again in a heartbeat!
