The blade itself is not very weak/thin either. It's definitely thicker than the conventional butter knives found in homes. The blade doesn't bend much at all it may deflect a bit, but you could definitely bend and permanently damage a butter knife much easier than you could bend this blade.
The only negative I could find was that the blade guard is separate from the blade itself; the blade guard can wobble a little bit, and I believe during shucking, the blade guard may have been scratched. After washing the shuckers when I got home, I noticed a bit of rust on them a few days later. Not a lot where durability would be drastically compromised.
For the rust I rated this 4/5 stars, I removed 1 star (it would be a 1/2 star if it were allowed), but mainly for a "heads up" for those considering.
The widest part of the handle measures 3.5" in circumference
The handle length measures just barely 4" from bottom to knife-guard/plate
the blade-base is 5/8" (a little over 1/2") wide
the blade length is just barely 3" long.Bought this shucker for my husband for his birthday because he was using a screw driver to open his live oysters. It was better than I expected and much easier to use. I would recommend it to anyone who asks.Don't get many fresh oysters in east TN but a gift of 100 required that I find shuckers, quickly. Who but amazon -next day (love prime) and 2 under $10!! My husband and son caught on quickly and the oysters were a fun birthday celebration.
