If you are hesitant to order such an expensive knife online without checking the grip out for yourself, visit a Sur La Table or Williams-Sonoma store to see Global knives in person. One benefit to order knives online, especially as a wedding gift is that they do not have to be transported via commercial airplane.
These knives are worth the extra work it is to hand wash and dry.

This is probably my favorite knife that I own. The first thing you will notice out of the box will probably be the unusual shape/look of it. This is one of the main reasons I am so enraptured by this knife. For a person with small/medium hands (like myself), the sloping design of the handle gives the user a great deal of control and adds a huge amount of comfort. When I first picked up the knife, it felt like an extension to my arm, which is exactly how a good knife should feel.As for the blade, all I can say is that it is SHARP! Much sharper than most German-forged knives, like Wustoff or Henckels. When I compared this Global knife to some top-of-the-line Henckels, the difference was amazing. The ease of cutting through most fruits and vegetables was astounding. It slices as if you're just running the knife through soft butter.
I have several Shun knives as well, and that brings up the only negative aspect I could find about this knife. When compared to the blades on my Shun knives, the sharpness is very similar; however, the Global blades do tend to dull much quicker. I assume this is due to the combination of metals used in the steel, signifying that Shun uses a superior steel. This is solved by a few quick run throughs on the global minosharp water knife sharpener though, and the knife is as good as new.
Although the blade does need honing often, it is still my most used knife solely on the design and sharpness it offers. A person with larger hands might prefer Shun knives, but the only way to tell is to handle each and determine for yourself.

Since I am not a fan of large knives, this one is perfect for me!!! I love it and use it for cutting meats & veggies. This knife is perfectly balanced and easy to use. I just have to keep it away from my husband, so he won't be tempted to put it in the dishwasher.Want Global GS-37 - 5 1/4 inch, 13cm Santoku Hollow Ground Knife Discount?
I recently purchased three knives: this Global 5-1/4'' santoku, a Mac 8'' chef's knife, and a Shun 4'' paring knife. And as much as I love my Mac and Shun knives, this Global has become my new favorite knife for small and medium sized tasks like onions and bell peppers. The handle design is striking and while very different from any other knife I've ever used, it's also extremely comfortable and slip resistant--and the knife balances perfectly on your finger tip at the bottom point of the handle. As for the blade, what can I say except that it's as sharp as a knife blade can be, moving through food like a razor (and fingers too, as I unfortunately discovered--a painful realization of how dull the knives I'd used previously had been) . And the dimples help slices of food to just fall away from the blade. One last feature I enjoy about this knife is its size. At first I couldn't figure out what to use it on, thinking my chef's knife would be perfect for everything. But as soon as I tried it out on smaller vegetables, particularly de-seeding and slicing bell peppers and similarly sized veggies, I discovered how much easier this knife is to handle for intricate and delicate cuts as compared to the bulkier chef's knife or the puny paring knife. This knife definitely has a place in any kitchen and will get more than enough work to make it worth the investment--one not only in a superior cutting instrument but also in a beautiful piece of cutlery that looks great on my magnetic knife rack. In fact, I liked the Global design so much, I recently purchased a second Global knife--the heavy weight 8'' vegetable knife.
