This hat is definitely cooler than a baseball cap. It is adjustable and can fit larger heads with no problem. The opening in the back is handy if you wear a ponytail--not enough room to tuck in long hair. The top is a very light mesh. The sides of the hat is a light cotton material like the folded edge of a pillow case. Another reviewer thought it was too light/flimsy. It feels fine to me but I can see how it would feel weird if you are used to heavier materials. I don't even like wearing hats. If it were not a work requirement, I wouldn't do it.

One small complaint is that the Velcro is very strong and can snag the mesh part of the hat.

I wasn't expecting couture. It's a kitchen hat. I have to wear one. I look like a dork in it, but gets the job done.
