Wusthof Silverpoint II 14-Piece Knife Set with Block

We purchased these after friends recommended Wusthof over Henckels because 'Wusthof doesn't make a cheap knife.' Well, I know these are the bottom of the line, but they where disappointing. The knives where flimsy, light and felt & looked cheap. We ended up returning them and spending a bit more money for a set of Henckels where were forged instead of cut, resulting in a higher quality knife (at the same price, the Wusthofs where still laser cut). It seems at this price you'd be better off spending a bit more money and looking at a different set.

I have been researching knives for awhile and chose the Wusthof because of the product description. After I received them, I wish I had gone with the more popular knive sets because although they are sharp, they are also light and the handles look cheap. I am still debating if I want to send them back for a different set. I would not recommend them if you want the complete package of sharpness, weight, appearance.

We realize that these knives are not the top of the line from Wusthof and as such,our expectations weren't high. We were delighted when we received them that they perform as well as our previous set of Wusthofs',which were the Classic series. They are light,yes,but are just as sharp and cut just as well as our previous set...and were much cheaper!

I have been using the santoku from this set for years as my go-to knife around the kitchen. It maintains an edge wonderfully with a little care (I use a steel weekly, and a diamond stone twice a year). I understand that many equate weight with quality, and in many cases it is a valid measure. In this case, I have to disagree. These knifes are lightweight, much like a ceramic knife, which makes them a joy to use in my opinion. Since my first santouku, I have added 4 more knives from the series. I am quite happy with them all. Don't discount these knifes just based on the the other reviews. I have used better knives, but not in the same price range. I paid $25 in a retail store for the santoku alone, worth every penny.
