#10 Stainless Steel Meat Grinder

I bought this grinder to replace a similar one I had. This one grinds nicely and the set up is easy. I like the rubber pads that are included to protect the table. The main reason I purchased this is because it is dishwasher safe. I have used it several times over the last couple months, and it is holding up well. The only problem I have had is that the screw that holds the handle on looks like it is rusting. It has a metal gear which was getting pretty tight after a couple uses, but oiling it loosened it right up. The gear appears to be permanently in place which I hope won't become a problem with cleaning, but at least it won't end up in the disposal like the plastic one in the grinder I had before.

Update: We missed the return window to Amazon by like, a day, so I had to call the manufacturer. I had more pressing issues on my to-do list, and it took me months to get around to doing it.

TSM's customer service is super prompt and sweet. The woman I talked to seemed very surprised that we had problems with the stainless steel model, and she is sending us new grinding plates, pretty much no questions asked -even after all these months.

I'm increasing my rating to 2 stars because their customer service is totally worth 5 stars. I really cannot say enough nice things about how they handled this.

I'll update again when the new grinding plates arrive.

Old Review:

1) Sure would've been nice to know this was made in China.

2) The styrofoam packaging was dirty, like it had been sitting around in someone's garage for the last five years. The styrofoam had actually melted into the plastic clamp pads.

3) The cast is poor quality. The metal is uneven and pitted.

And best of all...!

4) Every single hole drilled in the grinding plates has metal shavings attached to the rim. We're talking hundreds of little shards of metal that would eventually break off and end up in my kid's burger.

Thought I'm getting a solid quality item considering the price, but when I started to wash it before use I noticed there was deep rust spot inside the chamber. It appears their metallurgy (science of producing metals) was a bit off balance on this one.

Either way, the item was returned as I would not want my meat to go through the rusted chamber before it comes out. Apart from that, it appeared to be a good design with some weight to it. My issue may have been an isolated case. Amazon handled the return honorably and refunded all costs including shipping both ways.
