Joseph Joseph 3-in-1 Design Rotary Peeler

This gadget got a great review in the NY Times. I bought 6, 5 as stocking stuffers for the cooks in the family and 1 for myself. Unfortunately, it is clumsy to use and does not perform as well as hyped. Better to spend the money on a mandoline slicer.

I cook every day for my household of 7, and wanted an easy way to julienne vegetables. I also have 4 little kids in the house so I was not interested in anything that was difficult to store or dangerous for curious little hands. This rotary peeler fits the bill; relatively safe (though Id appreciate some type of cover for the blades when in storage), inexpensive and easy to store. It is NOT super top quality -I was expecting something a little better made given all the hype this has gotten in the press -but regardless it does julienne carrots and cucumbers well and makes beautiful thin slices of zucchini and other squash. For the price, what more can you ask for ?

(#1 REVIEWER)I liked the idea of this peeler. It offers straight, serrated, or julienne blade with a twist of a dial. In practice I don't find it great to use, so it does not get a lot of work.

I used it on zucchini, yellow squash, cucumbers. It did a fine job, but it was not comfortable to hold and it got slippery when food got on it.

I LIKE:

1. Multiple blades in one tool

2. Blades are not exposed when stored

I DON'T LIKE

1. I don't find the shape comfortable to hold, it is only 2.5 inches in diameter, I think if it had a handle it would have solved some of the issues

2. It becomes slippery during use when gets food on it

3. Peels collect in the blades

Overall, I think there are better peelers out there and I would not buy this one again.
