Cuisinart Kitchen Choice 17-Piece Stainless-Steel Forged Cutlery Set

Cuisinart Kitchen Choice 17-Piece Stainless-Steel Forged Cutlery SetThis is a gorgeous knife set. I was really happy with the knives over all. However, they do rust easily. I do handwash and dry them, but still have rust spots on both the blades and handles. Rust spots have developed even when cleaning immediately after usewaiting causes more problems. I have used stainless cleaner, but have been unable to remove all the rust spots.

My husband and I bought this set of knives with money from our wedding and I LOVED them at first. It seemed like a great set of knives at a great price. Wrong. We havent even had them for 2 months and several of the knives already have several rust spots. The spots won't come off with anything. I have emailed cuisinart to see if this is covered under warranty.... no response. If notBed Bath & Beyond will take them back. Very disappointing.

Great cutlery set a must have in any kitchen! They are light weight with comfortable to hold handles! This set comes with two paring knives and a smaller set of siccors(that don't fit in block, not a problem for me but for some I know this would be a con). I haven't had any problems with rust and they sharpen up really nice with just a couple swipes on the sharpening rod! We do not put them in the dishwasher and wash them all by hand, being as that none of them are sariated it makes cleaning them a sinch.

We enjoy our set so much we bought a set for our parents as a Christmas gift.

I would give 0 stars if possible. I received this as a wedding present from my cousin, from my wedding list in amazon. I picked them, and I loved them at first, they are suposed to be STAINLESS STEEL, but no... I just received them 3 months ago and the rust is almost fully covering some of them, it's a shame cause they're really sharp, but I'll have to throw them away :(, I wonder if I can get a refund from amazon or a change...

I received this as a gift and had I received the receipt with it, these would be going back. I've been using knives from my 10 year old block set that have never been sharpened and those are just as sharp as the knives in this set. A good knife should do the work for you (according to many top chefs) but I certainly have to do all of the work with these... even dicing an onion leaves my hand feeling cramped. What do you expect, though when you only pay $80-ish dollars for such a large block set. The only reason I gave it two stars is because the shears that come with the set are nice and sharp. Trimming chicken was effortless with those. Sorry for the negativity but I just can't find much to say about this set that's positive. It's pretty, I guess. :) Save your money if you care about good, quality SHARP knives. This set would be ok for someone who doesn't cook very often.

Joseph Joseph Compact Herb Chopper 2-in-1 Cutter and Chopping BoardThe chopping board is not useful to me at all, I was looking for a larger cutter with sharper blades.

Another present I got for my girlfriend. One side has a little feet. The other side is for chopping. It works well and I think it is safer than a knife.

Messermeister Angle Guide for Sharpening Stones

Messermeister Angle Guide for Sharpening StonesAs soon as it came I had to try it out. I used an old kitchen aid chefs knife I had for years and didn't care for anymore, needless to say I have new knifes I don't want to touch and hoped I wouldn't have to with the help of the guide I just bought. I did my best to do the guide justice, and it works well. I ripped out a page of a magazine and tested it out, and it went though clean.

The only thing that bothers me about the sharpening guide is that it does have ceramic at the bottom to prevent the bottom of the guide from scratching your whetstone. There is a small divot in the center of it that separates it into two pieces so when I do my sweeping motion, it has a slight drop in between the two pieces, however how minor it is it reflects on the knifes profile. It seems to be made for chef knifes only 7 to 8 inches, not fillet or some kind of a deboning knife.

All in all I am very happy with it.

I bought this angle guide for my Shun knives. As some of you may know not all the brands out there have the same blade. Shun (and most Japanese steels) are sharpened at 16 degrees, while many German steels, and others, at around 20 degrees. While reading the product description ("the guide will allow you to initiate the stroke at approximately 15-20 degrees") I was hoping to get the 16 degrees that my Shun deserves. After measuring the angle with a digital instrument (see pix) I got the bad surprise. To make a long story short: the angle guide works ok, but not on my Shuns.

Buy Messermeister Angle Guide for Sharpening Stones Now

You'd probably do better with a protractor, a pen and piece of paper to establish a real guide to the proper 17 and 20-degree angles used in most kitchen knife sharpening. Won't fit medium-to-smaller knives properly, and especially if there's any curve to the cutting edge or spine. The "instructions" are scant, to say the least.

The best thing about this product is that it is plastic and a great item to start to teach you the angles needed when honing knives. Eventually you should do away with a product like this however to get started this is a great product.

Cons: Product is not for intermediate or advanced honers.

Want Messermeister Angle Guide for Sharpening Stones Discount?

Great for a 20 degree angle on knives. Slides smoothly on the spine of a knife and allows you to focus on sharpening properly with either back and forth or one sliding motion along the edge. Now I'm confident I don't accidentally blunt the knife with my less than dependable technique. This complements a good waterstone or continuous diamond whetstone. With thicker knives like cleavers or longer knives like slicers you may have to change your technique slightly to ensure the guide actually touches the whetstone.

If you have a Japanese knife, get the Minosharp guides as the angle is completely different.

Wusthof 9755Classic 2-Piece Knife Starter Set

Wusthof 9755Classic 2-Piece Knife Starter SetThere are really two main competitors in the high-end mainstream kitchen knife market: Henckels and Wusthof. Those who have used both usually have a preference. My preference (and therefore bias you should know about) is for the Wusthofs.

The Wusthof Classic line is the more conservative counterpart to the Grand Prix line. The only difference, however, is the handle style. I personally prefer the Grand Prix, but this is an issue of personal preference. The balance and grip of these knives are as close to perfect as I have found. For those wondering what benefits a higher priced knife provides, one benefit is that the blade (or tang) is one piece all the way through the handle. This makes the blade much stronger, and less likely to snap.

This set includes an 8 inch chef's knife, and a 3 ½ inch paring knife.

The 8 inch chef's knife, is a great knife. Wusthof offers three sizes of chef's knives, 6, 8 and 10 inch. For most home cooks, I think the 8 inch knife is the best choice. The 6 inch is a bit small for bigger jobs, but the 10 inch is too big for most jobs. While the 8 inch isn't perfect for all uses, if you are only buying one size chef's knife (and most people only buy one), this is the one I would recommend.

As for the 3 ½ inch paring knife, this knife falls into the category of overkill for me. Most cooks will get by just fine with the 4 ½ inch utility knife. There is really no notable difference in size for the vast majority of applications between the 3 ½ inch paring knife and the 4 ½ inch utility knife. I prefer the 4 ½ inch utility knife, but the 3 ½ inch paring knife will do the trick for most tasks.

This set is a good deal; however, if compiling a set myself, I would include the chef's knife and the 4 ½ inch utility knife. Judge for yourself.

In June of 2003, I wrote a blurb praising this starter set. My opinion from then hasn't changed, except the last part where I wrote that I couldn't justify Wusthof's price for those knive you don't use every day. Well, I lied. Since then I have replaced virtually every knife I had then with a Wusthof. Whether I was dicing veggies, carving a roast, or simply cutting up a chicken, I just got to the point where I could no longer tolerate using an inferior knife for the job; so I upgraded as I went along. All my old knives went into my camping box (you're supposed to be "roughing it" when camping, right?).

The knives in this set are superb. The problem is that after using them, you are liable to do as I did and spend lots of money later. Be warned.

I received as a gift a set of three Wusthof knives when I moved into my first apartment. At that point in my life, I knew NOTHING about cooking, and could barely boil water. The knives sat in their box for several months before I finally got around to opening them. These knives, however, are absolutely amazing. The difference between my Wusthof knives and a "regular" knife is really impressive. I have been using them for over three years now on a daily basis, and have not yet needed to sharpen them. They easily cut through tough, sinewy cuts of meat, while still being sharp enough to tackle delicate fruits and vegetables without ripping at them. I have since, for the sake of experimentation, tried other "quality brand" knives including Henckel, but nothing has come close. I am now working on completeing my set of Wusthof.

I must tell you, I finally decided to pop for these knives as an indulgence; and then I had a bad case of buyer's remorse. You know, "How in hell could I justify paying 100 bucks for 2 lousy knives?". I like to cook, but I've been getting by with "decent", although relatively inexpensive knives. Anyway, that remorse lasted until I prepared my first meal. My God, what a difference. I can't justify popping for Wusthof for knives you don't use much, but for the ones you find yourself using every day, it's worth it.

If you're planning to cook, the cookware and knives will be your primary tools in the kitchen. For that reason, buy the best you can find it's an investment that should last 30 years and be used by your children, too. I looked at 10" chef knives at the store and they were cumbersome and too large. This 8" felt better, had a sturdy feel to it and you could sense the craftsmanship when holding them. These stay sharp, haven't shown any signs of wear or rust and are quality made and heavy. Great starter set, and will last you for years to come.

Messermeister Pro-Touch Teflon Spatula

Messermeister Pro-Touch Teflon SpatulaI ordered a bunch of spatulas at one time. Can't say I have used them equally, so it's not a scientific test, but the head of this spatula has separated from the handle already--looks like it was held on with just a bit of glue. I will try to reglue it, but thought I would provide the feedback.

I wish it were a bit smaller which would make it easier to flip pancakes. Otherwise, I feel safe using it on my teflon frying pan.

Want Messermeister Pro-Touch Teflon Spatula Discount?

The description for this spatula on the Messermeister website claims it has a "stainless steel neck and Teflon spatula head." That got me interested, since Teflon is far more heat-resistant than the nylon these spatulas are normally made from. I've been irritated/annoyed by how easily nylon spatulas are damaged by the heat of normal cooking, and thought that Teflon would be a very sensible material to make spatulas out of.

I was skeptical that the Messermeister spatula would really have been made of Teflon. I felt it was far more likely that it was just another nylon spatula, and that the person who wrote the description didn't know anything about plastics. Still, I was willing to give it a shot.

Well, I was right. The Messermeister spatula is made of nylon, not Teflon. It melts at normal cooking temperatures. It is an okay spatula for its type, but no better than hundreds of other cheap plastic spatulas. I'm giving it two stars because the description is confusing at best, deceptive at worst.

My search goes on for a good heat-resistant spatula. There are very heat-resistant plastics out there that could be made into spatulas, but they are more expensive. You would think that premium cooking supply houses would offer at least one high-end plastic spatula, but nobody seems to have one. Looks like there's a business opportunity for someone who wants it.

Ginsu Nuri Series 3-Piece Chef's Set with Multi Color Handles 5803

Ginsu Nuri Series 3-Piece Chef's Set with Multi Color Handles 5803Neat looking and sharp but the description has errors.. It states here dishwasher safe and limited lifetime warranty, but on the back of the package it clearly states DO NOT use in a dishwasher instead "hand wash and towel dry after each use", plus "Limited 1 year warranty" I always hand wash and dry all my knives anyway so that isn't an issue for me, but others should know about this error this before making a purchase.. Highly recommended and at this price with great quality.. Highly recommended.>>> Update: 3/25/13 Knives are holding up well although I do have other knives I use also but these do a great job and are thicker than other colored knives I own from Kia and Hampton Forge. I got some blade guards for them to protect the edges since they don't come with covers.

The green one is my fave! Cuts through chicken like BUTTER! Don't use the other one's as frequently, but they're sharp as hell and fab too! Love the "soft" handles. Makes them easier to grab and less prone to slipping.

Classic Chai Dao Knife - 7"

Classic Chai Dao Knife - 7'This is a well-made knife. I expect no less from Wüsthof, and I'm pretty sure the build quality isn't your primary reason for reading a review. What you want to know is: how is it to use?

For comparison, I'll bring in my Shun santoku and Victorinox Forschner Fibrox chef's knife. The chai dao weighs just about the same as the santoku, and more than the Victorinox (everything weighs more than the Victorinox--but that's not a complaint). The balance at the bolster is excellent. The blade is just a shade thinner than that of the santoku, and wider than that of the chef's knife.

For dicing an onion or other softer vegetables, all three knives do a great job, and choosing one of them is a matter of whichever you find more comfortable to hold. I give the chai dao an edge on this (okay, pun intended) because I find the santoku a little uncomfortable to hold at the bolster, and the Victorinox definitely wants to be held by the handle. For dicing carrots, the Victorinox doesn't work as well as the other two because it's lighter, and the heft of the santoku and chai dao knives helps one get through the carrot.

For slicing chicken breast for stir-fry (or whatever you're making), the chai dao shines. When I slice meats I usually have a little wrist action involved as I pull across the flesh, and the curvature of the blade keeps the edge where it needs to be. The santoku's lengthened curve tends to pull away from the board for that, as does the chef's knife; the shorter blade length of the chai dao also seems better suited to this task.

For chopping herbs I find that I'll choose either the chai dao or the chef's knife. I think I like the chai dao somewhat better for this, but I'll need a few more trials to firm up that opinion.

I used the chai dao today to de-bone a pork shoulder I roasted, a task I wouldn't try with the santoku or chef's knife because they're just too long for the task. For the detail work I did finish with a boning knife, but the chai dao did a superior job taking the larger meat chunks off the bone with little effort involved.

So, in my kitchen at least, this is a very useful and usable knife from which I expect to get years of service.

J.A. Henckels Twin Pure Silicone Spatula

J.A. Henckels Twin Pure Silicone SpatulaHenckels Silicone utensils are excellent quality. They are flexable enough to get around and into corners of cookware, dishes, handle medium heat with no problem. The blade still has enough body and finesse to spread icing. I cook, stir, turn food and just about do what needs to be done while cooking with this spatula. The weight and feel lets you know its top notch. (I hand wash all my Henckels utensils, take care of them and they will be with you for a long time)

I've tried many spatulas, and this is by far the best product on the market. The key feature that sets Henckels' spatula apart is that it is made entirely of metal and silicone, unlike other products that use plastic or rubber for part of the handle absolutely every part of this product is heat-resistant.

Buy J.A. Henckels Twin Pure Silicone Spatula Now

All other spatulas have come apart on me and makes me sick to think about pieces that may have ended up in the food. This one is holding up very well with no signs of melting or coming apart. Someone mentioned how they think it not good for pancakes, I make pancakes every sunday. I could see what he was saying but if you push down when using it is not a problem, it does not slide easily under pancakes like other cheaper spatulas, but it does work extremely well. You just have to get use to it.

I am cheap, thrifty whatever wanna call it so to pay this much for a spatula previously I would spend a dollar on was a big deal. I am so glad I did.

I cook allot and makes me feel so much better knowing my family wont be eating any parts or pieces of my spatula makes it worth every penny.

I really like this spatula. My favorite part is that the handle is very solid and has a good weight to it. Not *too* heavy, but substantial and better than a wood or plastic handle. It's not a cheap product, but I'm certain that I'll never have to buy another one of these again.

Want J.A. Henckels Twin Pure Silicone Spatula Discount?

I like this spatula. It scrapes cleanly, resists high temperatures, and looks good enough to display on my counter (along with other utensils from the same "Twin Pure" line). The only downside (and this is true of most of the "Twin Pure" line): the handle is heavier than the actual spatula, so it is not possible to leave it in the mixing bowl (unless the sides of the bowl are fairly tall) without it flipping out of the bowl onto the counter. Still, the pros (function, look, and feel) of this product outweigh that one con.

Dexter Traditional Wood Handle 8 x 3-1/4" Chinese Chefs Knife

Dexter Traditional Wood Handle 8 x 3-1/4' Chinese Chefs KnifeA very sharp knife, very good to cut meat(boneless) and chop vegetables. BUT: I chopped my first onion and the blade stained, and I do not think that even a blow torch will not remove stain. Handle way too small for large hands making it a bit unstable.

This is the lowest cost item in Dexter Russell's line of Chinese knives. Just as sharp as all the others. High carbon steel guarantees the sharpest blade possible, and will eventually develop a patina. Every Chinese restaurant kitchen has one. In Chinese kitchens, they don't have a block of knives, with a different size and design for different jobs. Every job is done with this knife. Chopping. Slicing. Dicing. Paring. Smashing garlic. And even processing of live animals.

Before you call PETA, just keep in mind that in Asian cultures, the food has to be as fresh as possible. For one, it taste better. And in the days before refrigeration, You keep everything alive up to the last possible minute. Nobody wants to eat spoiled, rotting meat. Would you eat day old sushi without refrigeration?

Being a vegetarian is a first world luxury. Eating meat is a third world luxury. Rejecting food, while others starve, is a pompous, arrogant action by overfed, privileged elitist. 30% of the world's population is vegetarian, most of them not by choice, and they're not too happy about it either.

Tobacco Pipe 3-in-1 Tool - Classic Wood & Stainless Steel - Tamper, Reamer & Pick

Stainless Steel Tobacco Pipe Reamer TamperI've had mine for years, and aside from nearly losing it several times, I have no complaints. The actual tamper can come unscrewed after years of pocket wear, but a drop of thread locker takes care of that. It's much better built than the typical "pipe tool," and is so much better than dirtying up your pocket knife or carrying around a 10-penny nail for the purpose.

This is a useful tool for a pipe smoker. It's exactly what I expected. I think you know what you're getting when you buy this product.

Healthy Legend Black Blade Deluxe Ceramic kitchen knife set with 4", 5", 6" knives

Healthy Legend Black Blade Deluxe Ceramic kitchen knife set with 4', 5', 6' knivesThis is the 2nd set I have purchased for myself. Some words of caution they are very sharp & require a little more care then the usual crap dull knife. You drop it you will break it learned that the hard way I do not blame the craftsmanship for this just the characteristics of ceramic knives & my own clumsiness. Once again to the sharpness keep these far away from young kids they are scary sharp & also be responsible yourselves after all these are knives the difference with these though is they really cut. I have also broken a plate or two by cutting a cooked frozen pizza by pushing down or even slicing to hard.

Now the truth is all these cautions may seem like much BUT they also go to the ability of these knives to perform their expected tasks. I have sent these as gifts with these cautions & all I have given them too love them as much as I do now. My last set I have had about 6 months & they continue to be as sharp as when purchased. ONE DETAIL you can NOT sharpen these knives. Now if they do what they claim which is to never need sharpening no problem & if 6 months is a pretty good gauge which I think it is, you will be satisfied. I will try to remember to update this review as the time passes on their sharpness BUT for the price I think they are more then worth it.

I purchased these knives as a holiday gift for my son who believes he is a chef. We both were quite impressed with the quality. He loved the color. Wasn't sure from just looking at the picture if the quality would be good or bad, but took a chance. Glad I did. Unfortunantly, I can't speak on the performance since I won't be using them.

Chef's Choice Commercial Model 2000 Diamond Hone Knife Sharpener

Chef's Choice Commercial Model 2000 Diamond Hone Knife SharpenerI have finally ordered a replacement sharpening cartridge for my Chef's Choice 2000 model, after nearly ten years of good service. I have used this in a commercial kitchen, before my retirement, and for keeping my home knives sharpened. Amazon was not even on the horizon when I purchased my unit, and I do not remember where I bought it, but the sharpener has served me well over the years. This unit may not have the flexible strop of the newer unit, and may not produce the true razor sharp edge of it's younger brother, but this is a great unit. Finally wore out the sharpeners enough that they are not producing the edge they used to, but they have lasted over ten years. I figure this unit has saved me several thousand dollars, plus quite a few knives, and of course time lost driving back and forth to somebody to sharpen my knives, and generally get them back a week later.

Great investment! Probably give this to the grand kids when I can no longer cook!

After contacting Amazon again, they supplied me with another pre-paid return label and also credited my account for the amount of the knives. Needless to say, I guess I'll have to look elsewhere for the paring knife set.

Messermeister Pro Touch Swivel Peeler

Messermeister Pro Touch Swivel PeelerNo more blanching! It is just amazing. I saw them using it on America's Test Kitchen and could not believe it. But it works. The only caveat is that if you're peeling 8 or 10, say for sauce, blanching is still quicker. And for everything else, the OXO peelers are still the best, especially the new "i" series swivel model. But for that "one tomato, peeled and seeded" recipes, this is it.

I purchased the Messermeister Pro-Touch Serrated Swivel Peeler because it was recommended by Cook's Illustrated magazine. As usual, the folks at CI were right. This peeler is super-sharp and cuts through produce peels almost effortlessly.

The blades on most vegetable peelers tend to get dull over time from a combination of normal wear from being used and from being knocked around with other prep tools and utensils .in a kitchen drawer. In the past, I bought slightly less expensive peelers and resigned myself to replacing them more frequently when the blades became dull. However, this Messermeister peeler is not that much more expensive than the OXO Good Grips peelers I had purchased previously (which are nice quality as well), and it comes with a plastic blade cover to protect the sharp edges during storage. This should keep the blades sharp much longer, making it a better value in the long run even though it costs a little more up front.

I used to throw my vegetable peelers in the dishwasher, but with this one I've been hand-washing it immediately after I use it (sometimes all it needs is a quick rinse), drying it and putting on the protective blade cover before returning it to the utensil drawer. So far, it has kept its razor-sharp edge and remains a joy to use.

I doubt I'll ever actually enjoy peeling fruits or vegetables, but this tool certainly helps me get the job done faster and more easily. What more can you ask from a vegetable peeler?

We read about this device, in a UK newspaper, and, as a 'senior person' with many years of struggling with various makes and designs of peelers, was impressed with the comments. so I imported two from Califonia via

a relative and have found it to be 'simply the best' it selfclears the peelings, is razor sharp and the serrations appear to

grip the item one is peeling. I have been waiting all my adult for just this kitchen tool. Well done the design engineers of Messermeister.

should be this little beauty. Could not believe that it worked exactly as I saw it demonstrated (after I figured out that I needed to remove the piece of tape over the edges) on my favorite cooking show..ATK (a/k/a AmericasTestKitchen.com.) Told my daughter about it and now she, plus friends, are going to order some. Everyone should own one! Plan to order other items, soon.

I have to admit, I was sceptical about peeling soft foods like peaches and mangoes, but it worked like a charm. Even my husband likes it.

Utensil Drying Rack, 3 Compartments, Chrome

Utensil Drying Rack, 3 Compartments, ChromeI purchased this utensil drying rack to go with the small stainless steel sink drainer. The size and appearance are perfect, but my spoons, forks and knives all slip right through the open slots on each corner, and pulling them back out is not easy. It's so aggravating I quit using it, and am looking for a different model.

I have had this for four months and while it fits perfectly it is already rusting at all the places where the metal crosses. Need to get another one that won't rust. Not worth the money.

We have a drying rack that fits in the sink, it has a coating on it. After a while of placing knives in it, it starts rusting. I found this rack, and ordered it not sure if the hooks would fit over our rack (since it has the coating). It fits perfectly. Things with thin handles (like shrimp forks) do fall through the bottom slots. For me, not a big deal, I've learned what not to put in there. It's also very sturdy.

I searched High and Low for this utensil rack. I needed EXTRA room for my utensils. I coated it with a clear protective coating to avoid rust. It works very well with the chrome dish rack.

Ok, so...what genius thought it'd be a friggin' great idea to create a utensil rack with giant holes and slits for everything to slide through? Are you kidding me? This is THE WORST idea. It's a test in frustration and patience. I mean, after I wash my forks/spoons/knives, I get to re-wash them because slip and fall right back into the sink. The designer who created this piece of you know what was also the designer of the first submarine with screen doors. This thing is a joke.
