Gourmet Settings "Stand By" 20-Piece 18-0 Stainless Steel Flatware Set, Service for 4
My wife and I were married in 2002. One of the many many things we picked out was a nice set of everyday flatware. It was a brushed metal set we found really inexpensive at a home store that specializes in "beds, baths and more". The thing I loved about that set was it was very strong. I tried has hard as I could to bend it and there was not even a little even a slight wiggle.Well, 10 year and 4 kids later, about half the set is left.
I have been looking for the past 5 years to find the perfect replacement, I can't tell you how many sets I looked at.... A LOT.
One day we got invited to a social engadgment. When we sat down to eat, I saw the closest set to what we had. I flipped the fork over and found enough info to find the website and then find this set on Amazon.
So, The good:
* strong. When I try to bend them very hard though not as hard as possible, there is a very slight wiggle. But they are stronger then most flatware on the market.
* Feel. The weight, ballance and design feel nice in your hand.
* simple modern design. I personally don't like flowery and overtly ornate designed flatware. I also prefer the brushed look vs ultra shiny. for my me, the design of this set is really nice for every day use.
* price, at $40 for a 5 pieve set for 4 it is quite a bargain. This isn't a walmart cheap set.
the bad:
* The small fork is SMALL. Like little kid small. It isn't a deal breaker by any means. Though, I think the set would be better if it was slightly bigger.
* Thick. These would be a little better if they were a little thicker. Don't get me wrong, they aren't thin and they are well made. I just wish they were a little thicker.
Ultimately I really like this set. Gourmet Settings has a lot of nice stuff at reasonable prices. Check them out. All things considered, five stars in my book!
And this time we smartened up. We purchased 5 sets. 3 sets to use and 2 extra boxes to replace them as pieces disappear.... i did mention I have 4 kids?!?Matches the set I oot for my wedding in 2006 but it seems they're thinner and lighter than before and therefore cheaper. :(

I like flatware with some heft. I bought these because I needed another addition to the sets I purchased from Target years ago. Target no longer carries them, but Amazon fixed me right up. This flatware has lasted for years with only minor scratches. It is nice and sturdy with wide enough handles for my paws to comfortably grip them. Our youngest daughter owns a set. When we saw them, and used them, we just had to have a set for everyday silverware. We have had them for a couple of years now and still love them. They are made out of stainless steel and will conduct heat so be careful when stirring hot soups and teas.Want Gourmet Settings "Stand By" 20-Piece 18-0 Stainless Steel Flatware Set, Service for 4 Discount?
So I've had these for a few weeks now. I really like them. They look nice and feel nice to hold. Not sure what else to say about flatware :)John Boos Square Maple Cutting Board with Grips
Needs initial oil, then wax. Like a fine car, it will serve you well for years if you take care of it. Can't let water linger on the surface of this item. Keep it dried off. You can hear the quality as you chop and cut on this block.i purchased this chopping block and used it for less than a month and already started cracking (picture enclosed). we had purchased two other Boos but they have been great for over three years.Buy John Boos Square Maple Cutting Board with Grips Now
This product is quite expensive for its size. Yet, the quality just doesn't justify the price.I got this on Jan 3, 2013. It's a little heavier than I expected, but overall it felt solid, and I was happy with the purchase. I used it for only three weeks nothing heavy duty, and I applied the board moisturizer that came with it weekly. However, I noticed a crack yesterday (will upload picture later).
Initially I was upset, and submitted a request to return the board. But then I thought the better of it, since this already dealt with food, I might just keep it. But anybody who is considering getting an end grain chopping board, skip this one. It's not worth the money.

I've owned this 18 inch Boos round maple chopping block for about two weeks and so far I'm very pleased. First off, it is beautiful to look at. You can tell by the weight of this item it is designed for real use. I've had several other wooden cutting boards. They have split early on in use. This board came oiled but I did purchase the board butter to keep it moisturized. If you are going to invest in this piece you need to keep it oiled. Its also important if you will be using it to chop or cut meat to seal the wood from bacteria. I love using this. Somehow the round shape, while large and spacious to use while chopping, seems less bulky than the square boards. Like another owner said, you can hear the quality of this board while you are chopping. I own mostly Wusthof knives and they work fabulously w new board. I have moisturized it 3 times but I do use it heavily. I do not feel I got ripped off at all. You get what you pay for. Do not hesitate to buy if you own nice knives you want to keep nice. Just a word of advice to new board owners, do read the care instructions. How you care for this item determines how it will wear.Want John Boos Square Maple Cutting Board with Grips Discount?
My wife gave me the John Boos 12x12x3 End Grain Maple Chopping Block for Christmas 2012. The block has a very nice size, heft, and stability. It is a delight to cut on. The recessed side grips are very convenient. I applied John Boos Board Cream to the block that evening. However, small gaps between the little blocks making up the whole chopping block began appearing almost the next day. I purchased a 5-oz tube of John Boos Board Cream with Beeswax and gave the chopping block several applications of it over the next few weeks. Unfortunately, the separations between the little blocks did not close up, and some new gaps opened up. I live in a very dry climate, and winter is the driest season. However, the chopping block should be better constructed so that the little blocks do not separate (especially after only a day).Wallace Continental Hammered 78-Piece Flatware Set
I was disappointed when I received the flatware for two reasons. The pictures showed it with a dull finish on the handles which I wanted however, it is very shiny. The second reason is that it is very light weight and I was expecting it to be heavier. I was going to return it, but that seemed like a hassle so I am using it however, not really liking it.I really liked the appearance of this product. The hammered steel look is very attractive and looks good on the table. However, the weight of the stainless is too light. It doesn't feel like a quality product in your hand. Maybe if you are younger and just starting out, you'd think it is fine. But if you are looking for a "good" stainless steel, you are likely to be disappointed. I returned it.Buy Wallace Continental Hammered 78-Piece Flatware Set Now
This flatware is absolutely everything I expected it to be!!! Other reviews speak of it being too light, but I don't find that the case at all. It it beautifully crafted, nice weight, and really completes my table. The same exact collection, Wallace and all, is nearly $400.00 at Neiman Marcus, so to have this in my home for under $110.00 is a major steal !!!The extra tablespoons are a bit unnecessary, but if I need them in a pinch, they're great. The sideboard serving pieces really complete this set as well.
I am just beyond thrilled with how perfect this set is. I looked at others on-line, in the home stores, Bed, Bath & Beyond, etc...nothing comes close to Wallace and the quality.

J.A. Henckels International Forged Premio 7-Piece Block Set
I bought these knives thinking that Henckels would not put their name to an inferior product, no matter where it is made. After about a months use, rust spots started to appear. These knives were cared for like they were made of the finest China strictly hand washed immediately after use, etc. The final straw came when the chef's knife started pitting on the blade edge.Fortunately for me, Amazon.com has a fantastic customer service department, and although the thirty day retun limit had expired, they allowed me to return the knives for a store credit. I've subsequently purchased some Wusthof Classics. I know for certain that they are the real deal and won't be cheap and nasty like the Henckels Internationals proved to be.Horrible product. You can tell these are made in China from inferior "stainless" steel. I put the word stainless in quotations because after about 1.5 months of light use, two of the knives started to develop rust spots. I had read a review from another individual who had the same problem but thought he must be an anomaly as a name brand like Henckels wouldnt put their name on such a low quality product. However, this is not the case and this knife set is in fact garbage.
The worst part wasnt even the fact that it rusted. The worst part is Henckels customer service. After emailing them my issue, nobody got back to me for 3 days. When someone finally contacted me, i sent them pictures of the damage. Nobody emailed me with a resolution and I had to follow up. What kind of customer service is that where the person complaining has to follow up?!?! After I followed up, their response was a generic copy and paste answer saying I should wash the knives with baking soda. Im no chemistry expert but I dont want my food touched with rusted knives (the rust didnt go away after washing with baking soda).
Would give this product zero stars if Amazon allowed me to. Complete waste of money. Should have just added some more money and gotten Wusthof knives which are made in Germany and would probably never rust

I haven't used branded kitchen knives in the past and this is my first experience with these. Ooh man... these are very sharp when compared to the economic value knives I used so far. Found wusthof has great reviews and when I was waiting for a wusthof deal, I got these Henkel's forged priemo for reasonably good deal (at least for forged knives). I liked these knives but I think that we have to sharpen them often to keep them in good shape. Its been only 2 weeks since i bought these, no rust... so far so good. so i gave this 5 stars because i got these for little less then 50 bucks, otherwise i would have given 4 stars. Bought this set and rusted within the first week of use. Henckel customer service does not allow calls only voice recordings. A true disappointment!Zwilling J.A. Henckels Twin Signature 7-Piece Knife Set with Block
I have a set of mid-range Henckels that I bought some years ago, and they are -muchbetter than this. I bought this set for my daughter because they were a good compromise between quality and price, and she won't ruin then in the dishwasher. I would have thought that Henckels wouldn't make any actual crap, but this set comes awfully close. The good thing is, boy are they sharp. But there's bad things too. Only the 8" chef's knife and the shears have any feel of quality at all, the rest are -verythin and flimsy. 'Laser-cut' edges are overrated make them another millimeter thick please, so they can make a precise cut without the blade bending and taking off in an unintended direction. A good knife is an extension of the cook's intention it does what you want, and does NOT require thought and pre-conception and compensation in every cut. (...)is waaay too much for one adequate chef's knife and some toys. Very disappointed in Henckels, and in Amazon too, I don't feel I got what I ordered.Henckels Twin Signature 7-Piece Block Set is exactly what I'd hoped that it would be: a quality set of knives that is ideal for the home. The set of Henckels that I've owned since the mid-80s finally gave in to a lot of use, sharpenings and dishwashings (dishwashing a good knife is a nice way to shorten the handle's life expectancy!). But 20 years of great service from my previous set of Henckels certainly warranted a loyal update/upgrade to another Henckels set.
And I am not disappointed. The new set is quite sturdy. Home users will be impressed with their strength; pros might be used to a higher standard, but I used to work in a professional kitchen and I can't see how these would not be as effective as anything a pro has.
These knives come out of the box SHARP too...a lot sharper than the sharpest that I've ever had my previous set sharpened to.
There were two descriptions from Amazon that tell you what you get; one of Amazon's descriptions included a carving knife (product description) and the other a peeling knife (what's in the box). Amazon seems to have corrected the error as of this updated 2-13-2006 writing. To be sure, here's what you actually get:
2 1/2" peeling knife
4" paring knife
5" serrated knife
8" chef's knife...this baby cuts through a roast like a hot knife through butter even though it's designed for chopping and dicing. In my opinion, it's better than a carving knife.
a sharpening steel
kitchen shears
and a storage block with 11 slots which is great because some of the knives, especially the serrated knives, from my old set are still in mint shape (like the 8" bread knife), so there's plenty of room in the block for knives in your current collection looking for a new place to sleep.
No 8" carving knife. But like I said above, the 8" chef's knife works better than any carving knife that I've used.
The only things missing from this set for the average home is a nice large bread knife (as I said this was not a problem for me) and steak knives (also not a problem as most households already have these). Plain and simple, this is a great set of food preparation knives that--if my previous set is any indication--will last for decades.
Bon Appetite.

A very solid knife set, especially with the extra slots for those who have a few "favorite" knifes left in the drawer. MAKE SURE when you buy Henckels to get the "twin" set instead of the single little henckel-man, that's a big upgrade in quality. You do not get the 8-inch carving knife. You can get this for another $32 on amazon. I read the product description when I ordered this item, and compared it to the image, and must have assumed that the mistake was in the product description and not the product image---I was wrong. Probably the best kitchen knife set I've owned to date. I was so impressed by them that I ordered a second batch for my mother-in-law, who is an insanely dedicated cooking fanatic: She loves 'em, or at least she claims she does. She tends to spin them around in her hands with a look of burning hatred when she talks to me in her kitchen. I genuinely fear for my life. Kershaw 9950 Series 7-Inch Stainless-Steel Santoku Knife
I have purchased this knife as an upgrade from a Farberware Pro Chef's Knife. Kershaw is a lot thinner, lighter, and infinitely sharper (buy some Band Aids). It has enough curve for a rocking low motion and long enough for high cutting technique. I love it.P.S. Still love it after half a year, recommend dulling the blade corner near the pummel, it will reduce number of little cuts with out sacrificing usability.Kershaw produces an excellent product at a reasonable price. This knife is just the right size for many uses. Love the feel in the hand and the rocking curve of the blade.

MADE IN USA! Liberty Tabletop "Pinehurst" 18-10 Flatware Set 65 Piece
I like this pattern a lot. The hammered finish is very nice looking. The stainless is excellent quality. I have had the set for several months now and I have not seen any rust spots at all.My main reservations are that the teaspoon and salad forks seem smaller than normal. Also the knife handles are not as heavy as a solid forged knife. I also worry that the handles might come loose at some point. Overall... the Liberty set feels lighter, smaller and cheaper than the less expensive Ginkgo set I had before.
I was also disappointed in the polish work of the Liberty set. Many of the forks have sander marks on the sides of the metal instead of polished to a smooth finish. I ended up polishing some of them with my own Dremel tool to make them shine. (You should not have to do your own silversmithing on a brand new set...)
Frankly I preferred the Ginkgo set I had before this one... except for the fact that the Ginkgo set was made from 18/0 steel that rusted frequently. The Ginkgo set just feels more substantial and the finish work on the Ginkgo set is vastly superior. (And the Ginkgo set is 1/2 the cost.) The only advantage that the Liberty Pinehurst has is superior 18/10 steel that does not rust in the dishwasher.
I think that Liberty should have done a better job of finishing & polishing edges of the forks & spoons. I think that Liberty should consider making the set larger and more substantial like the Ginkgo...
Calphalon Katana Stainless-Steel 7-Inch Nakiri Knife
I spend a lot of time in the kitchen. The meals I prepare are complicated and often include a good amount of sliced vegetables. I have two Santoku knives and have found myself using this knife more and more for my preparation work.PROS:
Great feel, perfect balance
Sharp easily maintained edge
Heavy enough for the big stuff (squash and pumpkins)
Balanced enough for the small stuff (garlic and ginger mincing)
Works great whether you hold the handle (like I do) or the blade (like they show you in some cooking schools). If you are a blade holder, then you'll love the feel of this thick backed `clever' like knife!
PROS/CONS:
You have to hand wash and dry this knife immediately after use, but you should be used to this with any high end knife (wouldn't want to ruin your edge in the dishwasher...)
It's a bit expensive, but then, it's very well made
Thicker then a Santoku, not good for cutting meat, but it is not advertised or made for that purpose
If you don't own a Santoku knife, then do yourself a favor and get a Santoku first. You'll find the diversity and utility of a Santoku unmatched regarding preparation cutlery! If, however, you're like me, and have a variety of knives, then this knife is a GREAT addition to your collection.
A pure vegetable knife: simple, beautifully crafted, balanced like a weapon... the best in its class. You will not be disappointed!I love every knife in this series, and this one is no different. The mostly straight blade is perfect for chopping/slicing straight through vegetables. The Nakiri has become my most used knife in the kitchen, since most of what I cut are vegetables. (Sure, the Chef and Santoku do a great job, too)
The edge is extremely sharp (though it may not be the sharpest knife on the market...my MAC Sushi knife is sharper), and combined with it's satisfying heft, makes slicing through onions, potato(e)s, carrots, etc. extremely easy.
I've read the reviews of knives in this series that complain about the ease with which these knives rust. I own nearly the entire collection (minus the new knives) and have not encountered this problem. Many people stress that the knives must be washed and dried immediately after use. This is not true or at least it's not true given my experiences.
Having been forewarned not to leave the knives in a pot of water overnight or not to use in the dishwasher I simply make a point to rinse (with soap if used on meat) and dry, then replace in the knife block, all while the food I just prepared is cooking and doesn't need me. I've left my knives for up to about 40 minutes before remembering to clean them with no ill effects. I am a known procrastinator and I have no trouble keeping my knives clean, dry and rust-free.

I am a 18 year old prep cook at a 5 star restaurant. I have been working my way up in the kitchen since I was a young dish washer, and my Grandmother bought me this Knife for Christmas this year. This knife is excellent in the prep station. I prepare soups, stir fry, slaw, salsa, vegetable, fruit, etc. and this knife can do it all. I even cut calamari with it because of it sharpness. This is key because its grind is almost flat like a katana (hence the Katana Series) and that allows it to be stay extremely sharp. About the rusting... I have seen no sings of rust yet, but I also wash and dry my knife after each use (which every chef/cook should do to be sanitary). Overall I give this knife a 5 star rating. I fell in love with it the minute I took it out of the package.P.S. Calling people a douche just makes you look like one. That is embarrassing.

There isn't much you can say about a sharpening steel. It sharpens well, and is extremely fine for keeping already sharp blades at their sharpest. This is an excellent tool. However you need to start with a nearly perfect blade. If you start with an unsharp blade this fine tool will be unable to help. You should use a regular steel or even better a more coarse sharpening stone/steel then follow by this for final honing. It does give a really fine edge to knives and the few that are sharp enough to take it in my house really show a difference in use against typically difficult items like mincing really fine onion.Have purchased several of these and they do the job well enough to keep my knives with an edge. Recommend putting every knife to steel regularly, finishing with this item.

First the good....this rod keeps my edges like razors. The bad....
I was somewhat disappointed with the quality of the materials used in construction....everything from the plastic used in the handle to the grit itself. The entire piece just feels flimsy in your hand and i feel like if it slipped away from me and hit a hard floor it might break. The abrasive surface does an excellent job on my blades but for what little I use this piece, I already feel like it is wearing out and don't expect this tool to last long. And no...I don't abuse it when I use it.
I don't want to be too negative. This rod does do a good job, there just might be better out there. It looks a little out of place in a block of high quality blades and will probably wear out sooner than you wish.
Ginsu Sofuto Series Wasabi Style 10-Piece Japanese 420J2 Stainless Steel Cutlery Set in Natural Har
These knives are very sharp. Have not seen any rust. Hopefully they will last. I hand wash only. Good buy.I am no master chef but my co-worker was a professional chef for 10 years. Quite a lot of them were as head chef. Here are a few of his simple statements of truth while guiding me to knife education.1. Professional chefs in kitchens don't get fancy expensive knives. If the knives gets stolen, the restaurant is out a lot of money. This doesn't mean they're bad knives, but it does mean you don't need to spend a lot of money.
2. I don't trust any knife which says it doesn't need sharpening.
3. You want full tang.
Now, here is my take on these as a beginner, these aren't full tang but are sturdy. When they fall apart I can get to the bottom of it but for now, they're doing a great job for the price. I got mine at woot for far less. I test full tang by performing a conductivity test from the knife tip to the hilt. It failed there. A test from the tip of the blade to the back end of the blade where it meets the hilt succeeded. Now the set is great, I would've liked kitchen shears. The main reason this is getting four stars and not five is because the Santoku length is small. Everything else I can deal with.
The best information I can give is I have a $10 Mainstays (i.e. Walmart) 7" Santoku knife. It's full tang, loses it's edge fast but when I need it, it works and is a knife size.
Cuisinart CTG-00-DB Dough Blender
This may be an unimportant minor kitchen tool, but not only does it blend dough, it easily minces tuna and boiled eggs very finely for tuna or egg salad sandwiches. I had used an old dough blender similar to this for ages, but it eventually stress-fractured at the very thin joints, thus I replaced it with the only thing I was able to find in stores, a similarly styled tool but with FLEXIBLE wires like on a wire whisk. It was worthless; a true engineering disaster. Finally, disgusted, I looked online and found this. It has been wonderful to have a useful dough blender again.I purchased this item through Amazon about 4 months ago to replace a Pampered Chef blender that broke at the weld. I wanted one that was comfortable to my hand as I have very long fingers and arthritis as well. I read reviews on this item and felt it would meet my needs very well. The blades looked sturdy, not flimsy wires. The problem with this blender is that the plastic handle pulled from the metal base part of the handle and so you have no handle to use. The screws are not long enough to attach down into the metal securely. I have only used this item twice. I love the way the handle fits my hand but the construction end is very poorly thought out or I have the only faulty one made.I haven't yet called Amazon but will do so today. I am not overly concerned with them not giving me a refund as the Customer Service has always treated me fairly. I have no doubts they will on this as well. I am not going to replace it with the same though. I am going to go with the one that is all metal. Maybe have better luck on that one. Oh and yes, I was cutting cold butter into flour to make a pie crust.
Add on to this review. I couldn't return this product as I guess there is a time limit. That kinda bummed me out as it is a very poorly made item...
