This knife arrived with a good edge on it, and the handle fits my hand for doing small things like stemming strawberries, quartering apples and other fruits. The blade is thin, as a birdbeak should be--and so a person should be respectful of what the knife can do and cannot do in order to avoid overstressing the blade and putting a ripple in the cutting edge. Good knife, bottom line.I have found this to be an excellent knife and easy to hang on to with the handle shaped like it is. There isn't much to say about this knife. It is sharp, sharp-looking and comfortable to use. I bought it as a stocking stuffer for my husband a year ago, thinking it was overkill, since a knife would do the job. But this mincer slices more cleanly and does it in less time than a knife. We use it often. It will never end up in the utensil graveyard.I first found this item at a gourmet food and grocery store in Evanston, IL. They used this to make all of their chopped salads. It works perfectly to chop your vegetables, legumes, meats, fruits, etc to virtually as fine or as chunky as you would like. It is quick, easy to use and I love it!!Buy Zwilling J.A. It can be a bit of a learning curve to figure out how to use properly... I know... I know... it looks like a piece of cake... twas what I thought as well... The blades are ultra sharp and if you have a diamond steel, and know how to use it, they will stay that way.The only complaint I could have about them is that I like to protect my knives with blade guards... Well these little bad boys are a little hard to find one that fits them and protects the blade from nicking and dulling. I ended having to take it actually to the local knife place and just try out guards until we found one that wasn't too horrible.

Not much I can really say, as it was given as a gift, and I haven't used it personally. The recipient claims it is a fantastic tool, and is very sharp, and big enough for big hands. His only gripe was that the blades tend to get fresh herbs stuck between them, and cleaning them off (sticking a finger between them) is a scary job considering how sharp it is, and not something that should be attempted after a couple of glasses of wine. :-)Want Zwilling J.A. I bought this product for chopping herbs. Knife is incredibly sharp. But while it cuts well, moist leafy herbs get caught between the blades. And because of its sharpness, you have to be careful dislodging them back on your board for another chop. You also have to be careful how you store it, as it doesn't fit a knife block or similar storage solution. It works fine for "dry" herbs like Thyme or Rosemary, but it won't work very well on Cilantro or flat leaf Parsley. Overall, a regular single blade knife actually works better.Zyliss Melon Slicer
I recently bought a blendtec (but that's another review)so I've been making a ton of fruit smoothies. I found this melon cutter at T.J. Maxx and bought it. It slices melons great, the tip has a slight lip which allows you to scoop out the seeds. Well this is my tool of choice for all the fruits now, it slices my bananas, pears, peaches etc. I especially love it for the mangoes, I cut into the mango, and with the tip I scrape off all the insides from the peel. It also cuts spinach n lettuce, without the leaves turning brown, and finally once I take out the big seed from the avocados, the knife is good to scoop out all the insides also. This is one of the best purchases that I have made, kitchenwise, the handle has rubber edging around it, that makes it comfortable to hold. It's super easy to clean, haven't put it in the dishwasher, I just try to clean it as soon as I'm done. I just bought one for my mom also. It's a great buy.I bought this to get the cantaloupe flesh out of the rind more easily. Bonus features were that it claimed to cut the cantaloupe and seed it as well.I was dubious that a plastic knife could cut thru the cantaloupe but it actually did that very well. The serration was very effective and penetrating the rind. Once the knife was about halfway thru, sawing it didn't work anymore but putting my hand on top and pushing down finished the job. It did the job more or less as well as a sharp knife.
Scooping out the seeds: This knife is clumsy. It is too long for effective manuevering and the tip is too broad for getting in there to scoop. I did it but it took 3 times as long as using a spoon and messier.
Cutting the flesh off the rind: Well, I had seen pictures of using this knife to cut flesh directly out of a half melon. I don't know how they did that. The big rounded tip can't pierce and it doesn't have a sharp blade so it can't cut even if you do get it in there. The slight lip (for seeding) doesn't help at all. I persevered but mangled the cantaloupe and made a mess on the counter.
Bottom line: Use a sharp knife to cut the melon in half. Use a spoon to seed. Use the knife to cut into slices and then cut the flesh off the rind. Zyliss Melon Slicer can only do the first task. They like it It's useful and has multiple applications so on the whole a good gift for a new coupleAt first thought, it would seem this is a safer product than a regular stainless steel knife, but after using this product, it looks like it could be almost as dangerous -so use with caution.
Magisso Stainless Steel Cake Server
I am SO disappointed at this cake server... I loved the design and practicality of this product, and was waiting for the perfect opportunity to use it. After months of owning it, I've finally used it, and was shocked that it broke during its first use! No pressure or force was applied, but it just split open at the narrower end. For such an expensive item (for what it is), I really expected it to be of much better quality.UPDATE: The company sent me a replacement Cake Server free of charge, but I haven't used it yet. Hopefully, this one won't break too...I was too excited to have this cake server that I even bought three of it for me and for my friends, but when it came it was too rusty at the edges and it might break very easily. I'm so disappointed with this product it such a waste for $39.90 USD.

I have owned this product for over a year. I use it exclusively as a meat grinder to make a sandwich spread recipe. I have never used it as a tomato strainer. It takes medium size chucks of meat and cheese and grinds them up great. The meat and cheese sizes are approximately 2-3 inches round, and it has no problems with these. For folks who use the old fashion hand crank meat grinder, it works exactly the same way, only using electricity instead of hand cranking. Never had a problem with oil or metal shavings. Really like the product although it does have several more parts to clean than the non electric one.Read Best Reviews of Weston 82-0102-W Electric Meat Grinder with Tomato Strainer Kit Here

This knife is expensive. We were very hesitant to order based on price alone. When we finally were tired of trying the smaller tools that were cheaper, only to find they broke frequently, we just decided we had enough. This knife is AWESOME! It slices through the most brittle of foods with ease. We expect this knife to last a very long time. The quality is very high and the ease of our work has just made all of us so happy. I bought one of these bread knives in May, 2008, from Amazon, for twelve ninety nine. For that price, it is a great bread knife. I bake my own bread, and the knife gets a lot of use. It was extremely sharp when I first got it and it remains extremely sharp to this day. (I sliced a finger pretty bad with it shortly after I first got it because I wasn't as careful as I should've been when slicing a loaf of bread, and that was partly because I didn't realize just how sharp almost razor sharp the knife was. Since then I always take extra care when handling and using it.) I must wonder why, today (June 20, 2010), it is selling for twenty three bucks on Amazon. Today, following a link from the Chicago Cutlery website that leads to the World Kitchen website, I see that this exact knife is listed with a selling price of fourteen ninety nine.I love it and expect it should last a lifetime (I consider the polymer handle a plus in terms of both longevity and hygiene), I would recommend it to anyone looking for a good quality super sharp bread knife for non-commercial use, but Amazon's current price is way too high. Caveat emptor.

I got this sharpening steel to touch up my knives between sharpenings. It is great and puts a fine edge on my knives. It actually sharpens knife blades, rather then resetting the edge like a normal steel does. Just a few stroke and you are in business.I am a chef with 25 years working in professional kitchens. This is a very poorly made piece of cutlery. The "diamond" surface is just a coating on the sharpening rod that started peeling off after about 2 weeks of use. I have other diamond steels that are over 15 years old and with very heavy use and they are still going strong. Do not buy this diamond steel. The body of the edge protector is made of thick, sturdy, inflexible plastic. It is is very effective and holds the knife very securely without allowing the knife move by itself. There is absolutely no way the knife will come out of this edge guard without being intentionally removed. Wusthof Ikon 4-1/2-Inch Utility Knife with Blackwood Handle
Wusthof Blackwood Ikon knifes are a true work of art by one of the best cutlery companies in the world. Befitting their position at the very top of the Wusthof line of cutlery, the Blackwood knives are not only visually stunning, they are also a true pleasure to use. While I could go on and on about what sets these particular knifes apart from their counterparts, not only from other cutlery companies but from other Wusthof knifes, but suffice to say that once you own one you will rapidly start making all kinds of excuses to replace your other knifes with these. To date I've now accumulated 4 of Blackwood knifes, much to my wife's delight, and plan on purchasing another 3 to round out our collection.
FYI, I totally agree with this statement: "Perhaps the most basic and versatile knife for paring, peeling, trimming, and dicing fruits and vegetables, with a slightly longer blade for preparing larger fruit, herbs, and onions." This particular knife was my first Blackwood purchase and it is the most frequently used knife that we own.
BTW, you can find these knifes at a very well known auction site, for approximately 1/3 of the MSRP. However, be careful at that site because some sellers are advertising Ikon Classics as Blackwoods, which is simply untrue. The real Blackwood knifes have dark brown handles, not a black handle.
Oceanstar KS1187 Traditional Knife Set with Block, Natural, 15-Piece
The knives themselves are very sharp and I am pleased with their quality. One of the holes designed for the larger knives had not been chiseled out well enough in the wood block so the knife did not fit. However I called the number on the warranty information and they gave me an email address to send a picture of the problem. Within 30 minutes of sending the picture they responded and had another block in the mail within about 4 hours.

The knives arrived sharp and ready to use. The block is sturdier than I though it would be for the price of the set, which was a pleasant surprise. They have a nice feel to them when you're chopping away. We've used them several times daily for over a month now and they keep their edge better than some of the expensive sets we've purchased in the past. I haven't had any rust spots appear either, but we always wash and dry our knives by hand immediately after use to prevent that from happening. We also only use solid wood cutting boards, which seem to be easier on the knives than the plastic or glass ones. Overall, it is a great set for a good price.Ergo Chef ER40 Pro-Series Knife
This is a fairly large, quality knife with an interesting (and, I think, very functional) angle between the blade and the handle. This is not a "hollow ground" knife, which would have a very fine (and relatively easily dulled but extremely sharp edge, like a straight razor); it is perhaps more appropriately referred to as a "Granton", or maybe "scalloped edge" knife (the last designation referring to the ground-out indentations that run along the edge). These indents are called "hollow grounds" by the manufacturer, and they do seem to effectively assist with discouraging food from sticking to the sides of the blade as you're cutting, which is what the manufacturer claims they will do.I'm no connoisseur of knives. I've always been mostly a 'cheap set of serrated knives' kind of guy, with the possible exception of a Chinese cleaver I bought when I was in my twenties, which I've since found to be of limited utility. But I was intrigued to give this chef's knife a try, and so far I've been very pleased with the results.
I'm no gourmet chef either, but I do like to cook, and experiment with different dishes (mostly made-up or plagiarized from somebody else's recipe book) and I've historically done the bulk of the cooking in our family. More and more my wife and I have tended toward meals of fresh fruits, grains, etc. We'll make a large salad of about 1/2 greens and the rest fresh fruit, nuts and whatever we have we can add: big enough that we'll get at least a couple of dinners and a couple of lunches out of it. We love melons, fresh pineapple, berries, kiwi, apples, pears, mangos, etc. Needless to say, we spend a lot of time cutting up fruit.
This knife has been a champ with all the fruits and vegetables that go into our dishes. Mincing garlic, chopping onions, slicing carrots, quartering strawberries: no problem. I really like the way it makes quick work of slicing up a whole watermelon (the wife's favorite). Where I used to pick out my longest serrated-edge knife and try to saw my way through the rind, then switch to a smaller knife to cut the meat away from the rind and into cubes, this one knife does it all, and quite effortlessly. I would have thought the knife was too big for the latter parts of the job, but it's so nicely balanced that it feels quite comfortable doing the finer work as well as the heavy duty stuff.
We also regularly buy eight or so boneless/skinless chicken breasts at a time (our grocer sells them every day for $1.99 from behind the meat counter), immediately bake and freeze them, then pull out one or two at a time when we want to make a stir-fry, pesto, jambalaya, curry or whatever dish, or add pieces heated with seasoning to add to our salad. So I'm all about a minimal amount of defrosting on a quick microwave cycle, then cutting the still mostly-frozen breasts into pieces and getting on with what I'm doing. This knife makes that job sooo much easier than any knife I've used before, and gives me the flexibility to get the meat cut up and into the pan in much less time.
I've noticed a few times that the tip is really sharp, but I've not actually cut myself with this knife, and I feel confident already in using it (I have a nasty scar on the side of one finger where my favorite serrated knife pierced it). The handle of the knife is super comfortable: absolutely smooth, with no hint of a rough edge where the (full length) tang and handle parts and rivets come together. I really do like the angle of the handle to the blade: it feels very natural and well-balanced, especially for such a large tool. The forged German stainless is flawless in appearance and cleans up so easily. It seems like there's an awful lot of cutlery out there to choose from, designed for all sorts of specific uses. As a moderately-priced, quality-built utensil that fills a lot of needs, I highly recommend giving this knife by Ergo Chef a try.As a chef I need and use a good knife. I have purchased many knives over the years of varying qualities and prices. I have also recently had some issues with carpal tunnel like symptoms.
The ergo chef knife has helped me with some wrist issues. It provides a smoother and more fluid cut and seems to buffer some of the negative consequences brought on by repetitive motions inherent when cooking.
I also find that the blade stays sharper longer.

Got this to use in place of the plastic utensils at work. It's on the heavy side but I have no issues with that. My wife laughed at the need to buy a Knork but I like it. It's also shaped so it works very well scooping ice cream. Waterford Padova 45 Piece Stainless Steel Flatware Set (Includes 5 Piece Hostess Serving Set)
I bought this set at Costco's for $69.95 on Dec 21, 2012 and my wife loves it. It is really beautiful with a 18/10 stainless steel rating that won't rust like 18/0 does. Usually Amazon has the lowest prices. I'm suprised they sell it for $159.00I just received this set today and it is very lovely. The pieces are a nice weight, not too heavy, not too light, but they feel substantial. The silver is very shiny, much shinier than the picture shows them to be. The beading at the bottom and near the top really makes it stand out, this set could be used casually or with fine china. The serving set is very nice as well. I'm very happy with this set and would highly recommend it. I bought it for everyday use to replace a set that was missing many pieces. It is dishwasher safe which was a plus for me, so I hope it holds up well over time. Don't hesitate to buy it, it's really pretty!I like the design of this pattern and the finish is very smooth and shiny. After 10-20 washes in the dishwasher it still looks good. On the positive side 4 stars: many 70 foot rows of cobs later I love it and it has saved me a lot of time. Stainless easy to clean, cuts good (to the person complaining it does not work, I'd say practice makes better and operator error makes worse, also corn cobs are individuals too and that needs to be taken into account as one handles them. If one's intent in to make corn mash, it is sure to be true.a point knocked off because: one must watch out and keep finger clear of blades, and so this seems common sense to me, so has not been an issue. If there is one thing missing it is a pan for underneath to catch the corn, but one can improvise with a cookie sheet just as well I have been using a Lee's corn cutter for over 40 years to freeze sweet corn for my family. We live on a farm and make use of this handy device EVERY time it's time to freeze corn. In fact, it is a fight to see who gets to use it and who has to use the paring knife. After the corn has been blanched, run the ear along the blade, the kernals come off in one pass, to get creamier corn pass the ear again. Then turn the ear and repeat until the kernals are all off. It takes some adjustment to get the right depth of the blade and the right pressure when scraping, but once you've got it, you've got it! Much faster than a knife. Easy to clean. I love it and have given it as gifts to many friends and relatives. Whenever I hear someone say it is too much work to freeze sweet corn, I am sure they have never used one of these!

Very expensive (this is service for one), but the pieces are heavy and feel sturdy. However, I'd like to point out that this company tends to make everything a lot larger and the handles are longer. Simply perfect for cutting pizzas like the pros. High quality, superb functionality, and made in Massachusetts to boot.My family makes pizza once a week, and until now used a 4" pizza wheel to cut the pizza, which always wrecked the toppings. I looked for bigger pizza wheels, but finally decided to go with the best. This pizza rocker was totally worth it.we use this knife for chopping salads, spinach, sliced meat,,,, and pizza. After 6+ months still sharp like new. Highly recommend it.
note the knife is too big for the average drawer so I screwed mounted a fairly strong magnet disk under a cabinet -this keeps the knife handy and yet out of sight!Got this as a gift for my father-in-law & he absolutely loves it. He said it was a little big, but he agreed that the smaller ones would not have worked as well. He also uses it to cut up herbs & veggies that he puts on his pizzas. If you give this as a gift, make sure you open it 1st & inspect & clean it thoroughly. This one came with sticky residue on the blade as if it had a large sticker on it at one time. It also had some fingerprint smudges along the blade. So again, clean it & if you know how, use a whetstone & give it a little better edge. The edge it has is good enough, but I personally like knives (& cutters) to have an ultra sharp & durable edge.
