Mundial Small Hard-Sided Cutlery Case

Mundial 5610-10 Cook's Knife 10"
Gourmet magazine recommended this fine Brazilian knife. Only $24 for the plastic-handled one and about $42 for the nicer fused wood handle, but they are the same knife. You can get them slightly cheaper at other sources, but there you have to pay shipping, so Amazon is the best bargain!It is sharp and easily sharpenable, good thickness of steel for this sized blade.The upper edge of the blade has quite sharp 90 degree corners, so you may want to do as I did--grind off the sharp corners and polish it more rounded to allow comfortable left hand pressure on the blade while cutting.

The box it came in was also huge. I will be happy the day amazon do a better job boxing stuff in better packaging instead of sending single items in outreageusly big boxes, full of air bags or extra brown paper.

First off, the size noted, 10-inch, is the BLADE! Not the overall length. My bad. That means it's BIG. But boy, is it SHARP! I'm getting used to the large size but kind of wish I'd purchased the 8-inch instead. I definitely should have noted the dimension of 19" on the product site. Regardless, chopping veggies or slicing meat is WAY easier (and more fun!) now that I have it. It seems well made and is comfortable to hold so I'm not concerned about slipping and shortening a finger or something. LamsonSharp 6-Piece Forged Knife Set with Block
This is an absolutely top notch set of knives, and I could not be happier with the quality and craftsmanship. The weight and balance of the chef's knife feels amazing to work with, it's definitely the go-to knife in the set, and is Horror movie LARGE. All the knives are super sharp and will tear into any task with ease. My only complaint is the quality of the block, it rocks on my counter as it's not flat which is really annoying. I didn't let that affect the rating I gave the set as it's about the knives, not the block, which looks nice enough, it just isn't flat, and it also didn't say LamsonSharp as it does in the picture. I have noticed in using these knives over the past 5 months that I use the chef's knife 70% of the time, and the paring knife the other 30%, I've barely ever used the carver or fillet. I do however want to add the bread knife to the set as there have been multiple times I would have used it in the past 5 months. I would almost recommend just buying those three knives and calling it a day. You can't go wrong with these knives, they're an amazing SHARP, QUALITY set. The classic style will look great for decades, never gimmicky or trendy. The wood riveted handles are great. I am very happy with this soup pot. It is very large and it is great for cooking soup. I love to cook soup and noodle for my family. It is a great gift for my in-law. It is inductive ready too, I can take it to my RV and use my inductive cooktop. One note is that not all pot and pan made by Healthy Legend are inductive ready. I think only the bigger ones are inductive ready.

I have 2 of these knives. I absolutely love them. I use these knives pretty much every day. They stay sharp for a long time & when they need sharpened they are very easy to sharpen with my steele. They are great to chop vegetables or meats, raw or cooked. I would recommend this knife to anyone. The price on Amazon.com is great too.I've had these a few days and have used them extensively. I plan on updating this review as I continue to use them for weeks and months.I really enjoy the shape of the blade, and the steel handle is the perfect shape for dicing vegetables, etc. Some may consider the handle a little short, but it's just right for me.
They wash fine in the dishwasher though it recommends "hand washing for fine cutting instruments"... They said made in the USA, though I do not know if that is a good thing or a bad thing for a knife... we tend to think Japan, right?
The packaging is very basic white with no branding or lettering. Considering the exceptional value here, that was OK for me, and thus I consider them a great deal for basic kitchen vegetable chopping and the like. I will update on sharpness as I've used them enough.

Global GSF-17 - 2 1/2 inch, 6cm Bird's Beak Curved Peeling Knife
Among my assorted bird's beak paring knives, this one has a special place. There's no hiding place for any transfer of salmonella bacteria from poultry to produce, for this knife is made of a single piece of steel, and the solid handle has good weight. (Not all knives in this line have a solid handle.) Furthermore, it stands up to use and abuse, unlike any other knife I've ever had. I bought mine in a specialty knife store (which has since gone out of business) close to ten years ago. After a nameless family member helped out in the kitchen, it seemed to have disappeared, and I mourned for this little knife. Turns out said family member had accidentally dumped it in the composter, along with a small mountain of vegetable waste. I boiled it and it rejoined the household.
Comfortable to hold, it does a variety of paring tasks well in the kitchen. Slipperiness mentioned in reviews of other knives in this line has not been a problem. Weight and balance are excellent. I like the completeness with which it can be cleaned.
If you have a kitchen or flower garden, you'll find good uses for it outdoors as well. I grow edible ginger, as well as the kind with flowers. For cutting the rhizome from the plant, this can't be beat. I also use it when it's time to thin the heliconias and strip old leaves off lilies.
In perusing reviews about other knives in this line, there appears to be concern about sharpening the Japanese-made steel. I use a Chantry knife sharpener and find it brings this knife back to an acceptable edge.
BOTTOM LINE: If you like the bird's beak style of paring knife, you are likely to find a use for this one. Amazon's price is excellent. I paid about twice the amount and would recommend it even at that price. If you've never tried a bird's beak paring knife, this one is reasonably priced and especially versatile for the reasons mentioned.
I've used it for fluted mushrooms, which is still more work than I'd like, and it does the job fine. It also works well with paring hand-held fruits and vegetables, but not being an expert, I still prefer the conventional gizmos for that.
Where it excels for my wife and I is in cutting up poultry. We usually buy our birds whole. The only time we carve is Thanksgiving. The rest of the time, whether before or after cooking, the knife of choice is this Global bird's beak. It is a veritable joy to disencumber our fowl of their appendages and such. "A hot knife through butter" as the saying goes, applies perfectly here. A whole bird is easily sectioned into six to twelve pieces in seconds. A cleaver can work as fast, but we're more joint-finders than makers, and the small knife and no-cutting board approach works great for us--less space taken, less washing, less mess. The curved point and shorter blade make the non-cutting-board approach such a good choice--I sure wouldn't recommend this technique using those 10-inch "broadswords." Of course a good chef's knife can work well too--you gotta have them, but this Global is perfection.
Sharpening takes extra time and care, but it rarely needs it--keeping a razor edge for at least half a year with about once-per-week use.

I'm not going to spend a lot of time discussing this knife as it is very much the same quality of knife that you would expect from Global. Just like all Global knives, it is a solid, one piece knife that has a razor sharp edge that stays sharp longer than most other brands of knives.I originally bought this knife for use in culinary competitions, and it's one of those knives that really doesn't get a whole lot of attention, but sure is handy when you need it. I use it primarily to tourne potatoes. The shape is designed for that purpose, and the knife is therefore often described as a "tourne knife". Sure, you could use it to complete many different tasks from food to general house hold needs, but I wouldn't pay $30 to use it as an all purpose knife when there are so many cheaper options out there.
If you're less interested in the uses of the knife and more curious of the quality of the knife, feel free to read one of my other reviews on Global knives. I use them every single day at work, and I have very little interest in exchanging them for any other brand.

The tip is more rounded and the blade is a bit smaller than expected, which is why I rated it 4 stars out of 5. I purchased this to match our other knives but ended up purchasing a peeling knife from Wusthof as well that I prefer to this one. Hey, it cuts the cheese! And it's ugly, in that 1960's kind of way. Actually, it has a fine waverly edge ground into both sides of the blade at a fairly high angle, so that the slice of cheese separates from the flat of the blade well, and doesn't drag, as the blade advances through the cheese. It's the Right Way to slice cheese. And as a bonus, it has the word "CHEESE" punched into the blade, so you can't forget what it's for!Very cheap in terms of the price, but quite good quality. I really like this flatware!! It's a great quality, for a good price. And very attractive.I have been waiting many years to buy a "real" set as i took a half of a set when i got divorced many years ago and it's just not done the trick!
But i'm having a problem with the knives they come out of the dishwasher "dusty" looking all the way up and down. Nothing else in my dishwasher does, and it is only 2 years old (the dishwasher). Any ideas why this would happen?
I wipe them on my shirt and i have to press very hard and i can see dust come off. I use a Cascade packet what i've always used with everything. I just dont understand why it's just the knives! They are so bright and shiny when they go in! Thanx for any help or ideas you can give...

Shun Ken Onion 7-Inch Cleaver
I've wanted a nice cleaver since I saw the Mortal Kombat character 'Meat' hacking away at his foes with a sweet pair of them, or was it the Swedish Chef recklessly flailing away in the kitchen on the Muppet Show in the mid 70's? Anywho. Due to a youthful affinity for the tool paired with the occasional lite butchery I've been doing from watching too much of the 'Food Network', i felt it was time to invest in a piece that was sturdy, functional & decorative. The Shun Ken Onion Cleaver does not disappoint on any of these criteria. It's like having one of those decorative battle-axes or Harry Potter swords on the wall that is actually functionally useful for cooking. It easily dispenses with meats, is well balanced, sharp & ergonomically feels like an extension of your hand. When the zombie apocalypse comes to wipe out humanity, I have no doubt that my Shun Ken Onion Cleaver will be a highly effective tool when close range combat becomes a necessity.

Like all the Ken Onion knives, it's a thing of beauty. Unfortunately, the first time we used it, to break down a chicken, it chipped--a half-moon eighth of an inch crescent whacked out of the center of the blade. This was on a quality cutting board, and with proper technique, at least the way we understand it. We certainly weren't trying to hack through PVC or something. Sent it back for a refund. Our other Ken Onion Shun knives are keepers, though definitely on the more fragile side--not to be tossed around like cheaper cutlery. This is a very nice cleaver, very sharp, very solid and I personally like the style of the handle(I have big hands). It has a thick blade with a good wieght and was very sharp on receival(still is). It has made all the other chefs I work with quite envious. I have used it to chop a few things, mostly small and large cartilage joints, poultry frames and smaller bones like ribs with no problems at all, the edge has stayed sharp all the way through... so far.I will continue to use my larger cleaver for more heavy duty carcase breakdown and keep this one for special occasions, although I am sure this cleaver would have no problem going through just about anything without dinging the blade.
If you have the money to blow this is a stylish useful tool to have around the kitchen

This is my 5th Ken Shun collection piece in addition to the 4-pc steak knife set, and my husband and are completely amazed and impressed. Yes, these knives are a bit on the expensive side, but they are worth it, even according to my hubby who leans more towards the "frugal" side. Interesting back story: I had previously purchased a Global cleaver (also through Amazon) and with it being my first cleaver and having nothing to compare it to, thought it was pretty good. I asked him how the job went and he said: "There was no comparison! I hardly had to apply any pressure at allit was like chopping through butter, no resistance." My hubby(who is is a very tough sell, especially with expensive kitchen items) was also pleased with balance and feel of the knife. Although I haven't used it yet, I'm very much looking forward to it. Global GS-1 - 4 1/4 inch, 11cm Preparation Paring Knife
I got this knife for my daughter, in addition to a set of Global knives as a house warming present. Now she has two and won't part with it. She uses the extra one for the appetizer tray. It looks very chic. I had to get one for myself.I have a selection of Global knives which I have collected over the years, after I asked a gourmet cook what kind he preferred. "Global" was his quick response.
Using the recommended sharpener, roughly three times a month, has kept them in excellent condition.
I love the design and they all look great on a magnetic rack attached to the wall in my kitchen.
When comparing price with other "fancy-schmancy" brands which I have bought in the past, and long since put them in the "spare" drawer, these have been the best overall deal.

I adore my global knife 4.5 inch GS-1 ("kitchen knife"?). So much so that we got a second one and am now thinking of them as christmas gifts because they are so wonderful. Definitely prefer the 4.5 inch to the 5.5 inch which we also purchased (it's much more comfortable and easier to handle).Can't recommend this knife highly enough, for the feel of it in the hand, excellent cutting, the ease of use, great weight, easy to clean etc.

This is a perfect small/mid-size knife. It comes razor sharp out of the box and has no difficulty handling any task appropriate for its size. Zwilling J.A. Henckels Twin Four Star II 8-Inch Stainless-Steel Carving Knife
There are a lot of new 'High Tech' kitchen knives out that sell for $hundreds$. Even Henckels offers a variation on this theme. But for my wife's money,(the chef in the family), why mess with a good thing. We've had Henkels Twin Four Star knives for probably 20 years and to her they just feel right, hold and edge, and are effortlessly sharpened. So why did I buy her a Twin Star II instead of the older Twin Star? I liked the SS end cap.Upon inspection, the blade has been reshaped a little to be a bit broader toward the tip but otherwise it's a wonderful SLICING knife. It's the one knife she goes to more than any other; kind of a cross between a paring knife and a chef's knife, (so expect some fexability in the blade). The only thing I'd improve on is the length. 6" can be a bit short for some applications. So guess what I did, I bought her an 8" Twin Four Star II as well. Turns out she loves this one just as much :)
The 8" is more to my liking. I thnk the extra 2 inches are handy when trying to slice through a boneless ham for instance. But here again, the blade is flexible at 6" and even more so at 8". Not a chefs knife, but it does 99% of what we need it for in our kitchen.
