Wusthof Classic Ikon 2-Piece Asian Cook's Set

Wusthof Classic Ikon 2-Piece Asian Cook's Set, BlackLongtime fan of Wusthof knives and wanted to try out the more ergonomic grip of the Ikon set. The knives fit wonderfully in my hands and offer a very comfortable and positive grip with very little pressure.

These *are* the sharpest knives in the drawer. And they hold an edge. Hone them before every use to maintain that edge, and assure a clean wound. I've found that if I run my finger under cold water and then pinch the cut closed very tight immediately after injuring myself, it heals almost instantly--the cut is that clean! A small bandage usually does the trick (see my glowing review of band-aids, as well.)

All seriousness aside, meat and vegetables do not stand a chance against these blades, and I would far prefer to work with a sharp knife than struggle against a dull one.

LamsonSharp 6-Piece Serrated Steak Knife Set

LamsonSharp 6-Piece Serrated Steak Knife SetThe knives are very nice, well made, and cut extremely well (watch your fingers).

The packaging is terrible; two pieces of cheap cellophone tape holding the cheesy box together. The cello tape broke and the knives rattled around during shipment causing several nicks and dings on blades and rosewood handles. Most importantly, Lampson does NOT cover any of their serrated knives for the Sharp for Life guarantee. I checked their SFL return form on the Lamson website, and then emailed Lamson to verify that these knives are all you get no resharpening ever.

Five stars for the knives, two stars for the packaging and shipping, zero stars for the false advertising.

Upsate 21 June, 2013. The "Sharp for Life" reference was removed. The packaging is most likely still lousy ask the vendor before you buy (although since it's shipped by Amazon there's probably nothing the manufacturer or vendor (CM) can do about it at this point.

Love the knifes. They are medium weight, high quality and best of all, Made in the USA. I also have Wusthoff knives and prefer the Lamson sharp so much that I retire my Wusthoff steak knives.

knives are great. case is a little funky. could have been better there.

but the real question is why did the price go up from $125 when i bought it 2 months ago to over $400 as of this writing.

talk about gouging. good knives but do not buy at this price. look around elsewhere. what a rip off. even $125 for a knife set is above avg pricing.

Sunbeam 13-Piece Knife Set with Pinewood Block

Sunbeam 13-Piece Knife Set with Pinewood BlockI've had these knives for about 4 months. They can cut well for how cheap they are, but I snapped the handle trying to cut through pepperjack cheese. The metal part of the blade does not go far enough through the handles. Not a quality product by any means, but they are good if you need a cheap set of knives. They work for my college dorm kitchen.

i was hunting for extra set of knives just for sitting on kitchen counter. i came across this set and wasnt sure about the low price. i ordered it anyway, and im very happy with it. takes up very little room. the wood is nice looking and easy to wipe down. the knifes are pretty good quality for the price i paid. im happy with my purchase.

7" New Chefs Knife Kitchen Knife Ceramic Knife(AZ701-B)

7' New Chefs Knife Kitchen Knife Ceramic Knife(AZ701-B)This is the second of these I've owned (other had a "somebody used Dad's knife wrong" incident). I use it for pretty much every veggie in the kitchen. Both knives have/had no chipping or defects out of box and my first lasted a good six months before noticing any chips(and they were minor). Excellent value and nice grip handle. 4 stars just because comparing it to a metal knife is apples/oranges. Stick to intelligent use and you will be smiles with this.

The Original BOTTLEFLY KNIFE Butterfly Knife Bottle Opener (Black)

The Original BOTTLEFLY KNIFE Butterfly Knife Bottle OpenerIt's made really well. IT WILL NOT BEND!! unless it's not a beer you're opening but say a museum door. In that case, stop drinking beer now. Even then you'll hurt your hand before doing so. I did not try this. I just opened beer.

When I wipped this thing out for the first time, my friends all thought I was going to arm myself and participate in the London riots. But no. This is no ordinary butterfly knife.

This fine piece of pseudo-cutlery feels solidly constructed and has held up even in the toughest of man vs. bottle skirmishes.

I give this thing a 5 star rating. It works well and it's a pretty cool conversation piece, so why not?

Oneida Capello 6-Piece Serving Set

Oneida Capello 6-Piece Serving SetI read the negative reviews, but ordered it anyway. This is a gift so I haven't used the peaces yet, but it is attractive and heavy weight. I didn't give it 5 stars because it have not used them.

I recently purchased service for 8 la femina by zwilling and henckels. Though I love the set it only came with two serving pieces and I was not able to find a matching hostess set.

The capelllo set coordinates nicely. It has a mirror finish, did just fine in the dishwasher. Also it is 18/10 stainless not 18/8 as stated in the description. The pieces are heavy and sized properly for serving. Also the four larger pices nest nicely and do not take up a lot of drawer space. The meat fork and spoon can do double duty as salad servers. So far it does not seem to scratch easily. The gravy ladle is an actual ladle, it appears to be a flat spoon in the photo. I paid less than 18.00 for the six piece set, it still would be a good value at twice that amount. I like it so much I am considering a service for eight.

Handy Gourmet Vegetable Peeling Gloves

Handy Gourmet Vegetable Peeling GlovesBeware of spending your hard-earned money on this product. They say put on the gloves and simply rub to remove potato peels WRONG! What they don't tell you in their ad, but it is written in the instructions that come with the gloves is that you have to boil the potatos for 5 to 6 minutes, let them cool and then peel them. I don't know about you, but that sounds like MORE work than just peeling them the old fashioned way. It's not an expensive item, but when you tack on the Seller's shipping and handling costs it comes to about $15.00. And if you return it, not only do you have to pay return postage (which is normal), but in some instances you have to pay a 25% restocking fee. DON'T FALL FOR THIS LIKE I DID! Remember the old adage (which I forgot momentarily) that "if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is"! In this case, that is absolutely true!

I thought these gloves sounded great so was stupid enough to

buy one for me and three for my daughter and daughter-in-laws!!

They are completely useless!! You can peel the potatoes in 1/4 of the

time!!! What a waste of money!!!

I'm a impatient person when it comes to cooking. If I can't prepare my foods in under 20 minutes I won't bother.

I seen these tater mitts on TV and was thinking someone out there loves me! It took me a while to get but I ended up winning this off of Ebay because I'm a Ebay junkie and is ticked off!!!

When I took the gloves out of the box I was greeted with a greasy feel and an unpleasant smell. I had to pre-wash these greasy smelly gloves. I went to rub the potato and nothing. I read the instructions because I thought maybe I was doing it wrong but I found out that you have to cook the potato beforehand and then peel it. It claims it's water proof but not heat resistant and the instructions tell you to remove the hot potatoes from the pot and let it cool and then peel. What??? So I tried to do another alternative...Run the potatoes through hot water first and then peel. I will admit the more I rubbed the potato showed some sign of peelage(I know that's not a word)but that was it. I wanted french fries not mashed potatoes so I stopped running it through the hot water. I will say one positive thing about this, if you want a baked potato run the potato through cold water, then rub it with the gloves for a few minutes. It will remove all of the dirt residue off the potato. Other than that, this is a piece of junk.

Have never tried these on vegetables, but got them for pulling (shredding, for non BBQ folks) BBQ pork and beef and they are fantastic! The one size fits all claim is a stretch, as they BARELY fit on my hands. Don't understand the "hard to clean" comments. Just leave them on and wash your hands with dish soap. Voila! Clean gloves.

If you go through all the cooking instructions you will get a pretty much peeled potato, however it is a lot of work. What these glove are really good for is skinning raw chicken. The abrasive gloves grabs on to the slippery skin and that ordinarily hard job is made easy! Canned 17 quarts of chicken legs, all without skin! Beautiful! Easy too!

Ginkgo Sea Drift 45-Piece Flatware Set, Service for 8

Ginkgo Sea Drift 45-Piece Flatware Set, Service for 8We have been using it for a few months now & have had no problems washing it in the dishwasher. The design is very attractive, & the pieces have a solid feel -not super heavy, but not flimsy like some inexpensive flatware. The size of the salad forks seems tinier than usual, but overall a great value for the price.

I am a person who reads reviews before I buy anything and I wont write a 5 star review unless I truly believe in the product. I bought this set about seven months ago and its great!!! I use them every day I have two sons ages six and four and this set is just what I was looking for they are very durable they have seen there fair share of abuse and they still look great just like the day I pulled them out of the box! They are heavy the will not bend with normal use and they truly are dishwasher friendly! Like I said I use these everyday and put them in the dishwasher everyday they will not rust! So if you are looking for a great set that will last you a life time look no more you have found them! In fact I am going to buy a second set I would recommend this set to everyone I know the price is high but you get what you pay for and if your like me you do the math its creeper in the long run!

John Boos 18-Inch Octagonal Cutting Board

John Boos 18-Inch Octagonal Cutting BoardI bought this item so that I will NEVER have to buy another cutting board again. My cabinet is full of warped, cracked "quality" boards. The delivery box was broken and the board was loose. I expected to see the board was damaged but it was not. It is a sturdy, very thick (3 inches!), gorgeous cutting board with handles for ease of cleaning. The problem was it was very, very dry and needed to be oiled immediately. You should order the oil at the same time so you can treat it right away. Now that I've oiled it several times, it is the best cutting board I've ever used. Although it is quite heavy. I recommend Boos. I understand they are the BEST cutting boards you can buy and mine was worth the $$$.

Amazon did a great job of packing this item: the box was gigantic and well padded. The board arrived in perfect condition. We have not yet had a chance to use the board, but it looks beautiful.

Wusthof Classic Carving Knife

Wusthof Classic 9-Inch Carving KnifeI've tried other knives but this one is far superior. I would recommend this purchase.

This long slicing knife has recently been added to my Wusthof knives and I am very pleased with the addition. This knife serves my needs when slicing large hams, roasts and other pieces of meat. It is large enough to do the job on a watermelon and still fits easily in my Wusthof knife block.

Wusthof knives are classic -sturdy, well made, retain their edge and easy to hone or sharpen. A wonderful knife with a myriad of uses, I am happy with this new addition to my other Wusthof knives.

I have used many knives over the past 35 years and was introduced to these knives by a German Neuropathologist. For me, Each knife lasts about 5 to 6 years before it is ground down too much in my experience. For a home owner would much longer. One to two times a week I sharpen them with Arkansas stones and then strop them. They hold an edge that would shave hair. I am switching over to Japanese stones as will give an even better edge. The steel is of excellent quality. The handles hold up to washing in a diswasher or autoclave. I have bought the knives with Ikon handles for my daughter. They are slightly easier to clean.

Kasumi 86024 - 10 inch Slicing Knife

Kasumi 86024 - 10 inch Slicing KnifeI just did a review on the 8 in. version of this knife, and thought I would do one on this one as well.

All I can say is WOW! I am a sushi chef that has used many knives, and the Kasumi line of knives is a very strong line of knives. (No pun intended)

I first bought the 8 in knife, looking for a new roll cutting knife (which it's the best decision I've made in knife buying), which led me to look and then purchase this one.

Personally, the combo of the 8 in. and this 10 in. is the best duo I've used standing behind the bar. This knife was exactly what I was looking for.

The 8 in. for rolls, and this one for just about everything else (not prepping but in the heat of things).

It's well balanced, feels good in my hand, beautiful, and retains a great edge (60 Rockwell Hardness rating).

Excellent Knife!

Exactly what I was looking for.

It's not a Hattori but then it doesn't have Hattori pricing.

There is so much choice when it comes to Japanese knives but if you need a carving type I'm not sure how you could go wrong with this one.

Wusthof 4066710 4" Paring Knife

Wusthof 4066710 4' Paring KnifeMy most used knife in the kitchen in my Wusthof 4" paring knife. This knife stays incredably sharp. It's blade is thinner than most other knives in its size, including the Henkle. The blade taper starts almost from the very edge. These two factors helps it slice through what you are cutting easier that thicker knives. I have found the blade thickness to be a very big factor when cutting. I have Henkle knives also, but they do not hold their edge anywhere as long as my Wuthof knives. Wusthof knives last a life time and are worth every cent you pay for them.

I love these knives and know they are well made from my years spent in Germany. This size is great for cooking; but, I added a couple more to make a set of steak knives and use the small, hand held Wusthof sharpener to keep them cutting with ease. Now I have extra knives handy for times when there are multiple cooks in the kitchen or multiple folks eating steak! Think multipurpose and save some money and storage space too.

Buy Wusthof 4066710 4" Paring Knife Now

Designed for broad kitchen use, the flat-ground spear-point vanadium blade is thin and semi-flexible, which allows it to pass easily through both soft and fibrous foods. It's ground from a high performance molybdenum and vanadium stainless blank to take and hold a long-lasting edge. The blade is tapered, starting thick where the blade joins the handle, thinning down the spine to a fine, uniformly ground tip. In the hand the knife conveys a unique feeling of balance, or "sweet spot." The sweet spot is due to the blade and handle being comparable in weight. This balance transfers into a feeling of steady control over the cutting edge.

As a result, I rate it second only to the 4.5-inch (Wusthof) utility knife, which carries the same blade with a slightly longer handle. This 4-inch paring knife carries high customer satisfaction over its lifetime.

MIU France Maple Cutting Board with 7-Slot Knife Drawer, Natural

MIU France Maple Cutting Board with 7-Slot Knife Drawer, NaturalThese units are just as sturdy and nicely designed as suggested in the photos. However.... In my opinion the company that makes these is supplying Amazon with second quality cutting boards. I'm in the process of returning my second one.

The first one I received had obviously been returned by a previous customer and had a dinged up drawer. The top on that one had a few dark knots but they were tight though unattractive. Remember, the tops are made up of end grain pieces, so it's relatively easy to throw out the bad pieces before glue up. These are, however, packaged very very well. Triple boxed no less. The second one that I received appeared to be a fresh item but the inner box had a yellow sticky note stuck to it with some cryptic writing on it....hmmmm. Upon inspection this one had a perfect drawer but had a pithy knot on top that I consider not only unattractive but not food safe. It also had a large knot on the side of the board that was so large it had been filled with a yellow plastic filler. So back it goes.

Otherwise this is a really heavy duty, nicely designed unit. It measures 141/8 by 113/4 inches and holds 7 knives up to about eight inches long. It does have one odd quirk to the design though. The drawer, when fully closed, protrudes out the back of the assembly about 1/8 of an inch exposing the the very end of the knife slots and leaving them vulnerable to falling food scraps that would be very difficult to remove. If you push this tight against the counter back-splash, it will push the drawer out to be flush with the front of the cutting board. On my second unit, the front of the drawer lined up nicely with the cutting board above it, so if it had been a keeper, I would have just adjusted the slides to compensate for the 1/8 inch.

Bottom line....when I look at the picture of the unit in obviously first quality condition, I"m tempted to order a third one (third one's the charm they say). However, it is a hassle returning these, although kudos to Amazon for their excellent return policy and free shipping. As they are triple boxed, I know there's no way they can inspect them to find me a good one. So.......

Pro's..... Nice design with one small quirk

Very heavy duty

Reasonable price

Cons.....Poor quality control by manufacturer results in second quality appearing prod-

ucts rather than the first quality suggested in the photos.

Mine arrived damaged. Otherwise, the cutting board top is nice and solid. However, the drawer doesn't close all the way and certain of the newer cutlery doesn't fit inside. Also, very big and bulky. I opted to go for the Wustoff drawer knife tray that fits nicely in any kitchen drawer.

Master Magnetics Magnetic Tool Bar - 24in.W, Model# 07261

Master Magnetics Magnetic Tool Bar - 24in.W, Model# 07261I looked at similar products at the big box stores. Those held just a tiny fraction of the weight the Master Magnetics bars can handle. And the big box versions cost more. The Master Magnetics bars support a wide variety of tools inclduing very heavy hammers and wrenches. Note they are so powerful they can grab the screws and screwdriver you are using to install them.

Over the years I've bought several brands of magnetic tool bars. Some have been disappointing and some have worked well. These bars are the strongest bars I've ever seen and hold very heavy tools easily. Have just ordered another four.

Not a wimpy magnet. Holds even heavy tools with ease on pegboard, and if it were much stronger, I'd be tugging the pegs out when removing the tools. Does what it is designed to do well.

I made a magnetic knife rack using this magnetic tool bar. Sandwiched this with wood around it, a black velvet cover over this and it looks like a very nice finished product that is mounted on the wall. At a fraction of cost compared to a retail product. Knives are held on nicely, even a heavy cleaver, no downward slips so the magnets are strong enough. I bet it is just as effective in holding actual tools besides knives.

Please click YES if my review have been helpful to you, it will encourage me to continue writing and updating my reviews, and leave a comment if you have any questions, I will be more than happy to answer if I can be of help.

Be advised that it may slightly magnetize some tools, but that can be an advantage when working with nuts/bolts/wrenches/pliers and screw-drivers.

Wusthof 9-in. Diamond Steel Knife Sharpener

Wusthof 9-in. Diamond Steel Knife SharpenerThis Wusthof is the best sharpener I have used for large knives. Just run the blade at the angle you want then just swipe the blade on the rod about 5 times per side and you are done. This aligns the edge and sharpens at the same time. What a time saver. Of course, you will expect nothing less from Wusthof. I have used these on my folding knives as well and it does sharpen my hard steel knives as well. But I prefer to use my Smith's Adjustable Angle sharpener for those small knives because it has a Ceramic finishing stone as well. I will probably buy the Wusthof Ceramic sharpener as well, but it is not a must. I just use this to sharpen once in a while and a Wusthof Steel Sharpener that came with my Wusthof Set for daily use.

I love Wusthof knives and sharpeners. They are really the best there is.

Was a gift for someone. Needless to say he is very happy

with this item as well as another Wusthof item ordered.

Messermeister Mu Bamboo 4-1/2-Inch Utility KnifeI have never tried to use a knife that fought back. It is gorgeous to look at because it is hand made as only the Japanese can manage... but the balance is off. Trying to describe the difficulty is almost impossible. It is incredibly sharp, very thin in the blade... absolutely like paper.. but in order to stay away from the blade I found myself placing my finger along the top part of the blade. I finally returned same and went to Sur La Table where I was able to handle and purchase a Zwilling Pro paring knife. Disappointing.

Boska Holland Milano Collection Non-stick Cheese Slicer for Semi Hard and Hard CheeseThe slicer works exactly as advertised. One star deducted for a somewhat flimsy design, but it s still holding up well.

Being Dutch and having had to slice a lot of cheese in my life, I can assure you this is really the best cheese slicer you can get! Forget everything you can buy in special stores or whatsoever, this is a non-stick slicer which is capable of slicing through young cheeses without trouble (and that is very hard) also the thickness of the slices is very satisfying, not to thick and not to thin, just right. So the price might look high but it is very well worth it! Oh and it also survives the dishwasher.

Tojiro DP 8-inch Chef's Gyuto KNife

Tojiro DP 8-inch Chef's Gyuto KNifeI was turned onto Tojiro by a fellow cook who had his knife bag stolen. He took a flyer on a Tojiro because it was only $60 at the time (this was 2007). I fell in love with his knife when he let me try it out. This is the best Cooks Knife you will ever own. I'm on my 6th year now of using it and it's still the most wicked blade I can think of. I wouldn't trade it for anything.

I'll update this review as time passes, but for now, I'll go over the basics.

I'm a chef, and I've used pretty much almost every brand of knife that's recommended or popular. This includes but is not limited to Shun (basic, premier, ken onion, Henckles, Messermeister, Cozzini, Togiharu, Kikuichi, Mac, Global, Wusthof, and probably a few more. I found out about Tojiro brand knives from intense research into knives following the theft of my knife kit and wanting a cheaper alternative to the Shun Premiers I was using previously.

Now, before I expand on this, let me preface the review with Chef's do not make a lot of money. In fact, we get straight nothing when it comes to being paid fairly for skilled labor. And we rarely make tips. If we spend money (that's not on alcohol or drugs) it's on our shoes and knives; the two things we use the most. I know chef's who swear by German steel, and I know chef's that swear by Japanese steel. They are very different, as German steel tends to be thicker and heavier, requiring less effort than a Japanese knife. I'm more of a fan of Japanese knives, so right away the effectiveness of your knife is going to be contingent on your style.

But holy hell this knife is sharp.

At the time I purchased it, this knife was 70 bucks with shipping, less then half for my Shun Premier I mentioned earlier. I took it out of the box and I didn't think much of it at first. It's aesthetically very run of the mill, which I was fine with, since it's my primary tool for my profession. I went about opening a little plastic bag with my new fish bone tweezers in it with this knife and as I was talking to my girlfriend I accidentally cut open the bag when I wasn't paying attention. I didn't notice the bag was already open until I consciously went to try and open it afterward. To my surprise, the bag was open, and it felt like the knife didn't even have to try to cut through it. I was stunned. I did not expect it to be this sharp right away.

I realize a plastic bag is not much compared to actual produce or meat, so I went to brunoise an onion and it just cut it so smoothly I wanted to weep forever. I was glad that my knives being stolen wasn't going to hinder me much longer then the three days I waited for this knife to arrive. Once it begins to dull down and I have to take it to the stone, I'll expand on how it hold up and comes back, as that will be the true test of the knife; its longevity.

Update 1:

I just steeled this knife for the first time a couple weeks ago once I noticed it wasn't cutting as effortlessly as usual. It got sharper than the original sharpening. This knife is terrifying. Like, it might be too sharp.
