Cheese Knife/Server with Bamboo Handle (Stainless Steel)

Cheese Knife/Server with Bamboo HandleI own a few of these knives because (1) they are economical, and (2) they are sturdy and functional. For personal use or small gatherings I use a Boska Holland Explore Cheese Set. However for tastings and for multi-purpose use I use these.

Aside from the excellent price, these are sturdy, reasonably sharp (helped by the serrations on the blade), and are easy to clean. I especially love the handle, which is bamboo, and strong and less porous than other woods.

Regarding the multi-purpose use I mentioned: this knife works beautifully with dry sausages like salami as well as cheese. When I have larger gatherings I will put out a spread of antipasti and aside from Olive Strainer Spoons for olives and Appetizer Tongs these knives are the only serving utensils needed.

Please see my customer-supplied photo at the top of this page for the relative size of this knife. The cheese shown in the photo is a little over a half pound, so that should give you an idea of scale.

If you host parties or have large family meals these are handy to have around. The quality is better than I expected and the functionality is perfect for the uses I described.

Overall it seems to be well made, but it is too thin to truly be protective in the kitchen, this makes it great and lightweight for a hot environment and maybe good for a catering chef or bartender, etc, but working in the kitchen I don't think it is heavy enough to protect me from hot oil, etc in the kitchen. Overall Chef Revival makes a better product, you get what you pay for.

I'm not a chef. I'm just a home cook that got tired of ruining prefectly good shirts with oily stains and splashes. I used to wear a bib front apron but I still would get little splash stains where my apron didn't cover.

This jacket gives me complete coverage. I'm a plus-sized woman so I bought the 3X to make sure it would be big enough to button (I usually wear 3X shirts and this fits a little loose). I also bought the 3/4 sleeves (which fit me right at my wrists) because I'm only 5ft 3in tall and regular length sleeves would have been way too long.

I liked this so much that the day after it arrived, I bought another one (this time in merlot). Highly recommended.

UPDATE:Yesterday my husband remarked how big this jacket was on me. Well, I have been on a diet but I didn't think I'd lost that much weight so I took a closer look in the mirror. After further inspection, I'm sure I could have easily fit into the 2X (and maybe even the 1X). I still love the jacket and I don't think it looks that big on me but if fit matters to you and you usually wear a 3X in women's tops then you might want to order the 2X instead. And if Amazon offers free returns, then you can't go wrong either way.

Kuhn Rikon Mini-Pro Knife Sharpener

Kuhn Rikon 2940 Mini-Pro Knife Sharpener, BlackI have a bunch of Kuhn Rikon knives. I wanted to spend a fortune on high end knives like Shun, but the the Kuhn Rikon knives did such a good job that, with an entire set costing less than a single Shun, I quickly abandoned "status" and bought the Kuhn Rikons.

No matter who makes a knife or how well the knives are treated, they will eventually need sharpening. Since the knives carried the Kuhn Rikon label, I decided the sharpener should, too. The sharpener does not disappoint! Just a few strokes and my knives are just as sharp as the day the were unsealed! The sharpener is virtually idiot-proof since all one has to do is pull a knife through a few times.

The one odd thing about the sharpener is that it's awkward to open at first. It was a bit sticky. However, the sharpener does such a good job that I decided not to take off any stars. DEFINITELY recommended!

I have several Kuhn Rikon knives, and love them. They are so much better than the more expensive knives that I own. So, when I saw this sharpener advertised on TV, I came to Amazon to see if I could find a better deal (which I did), and ordered it. It arrived within a few days, and I immediately sharpened all of my knives. I can't really say that I saw much of a difference in the before and after sharpening. I have another knife sharpener that seems to work just as well, and cost half as much. I am giving it 3 stars because it is OK...but wouldn't recommend or buy again.

I'm not a knife snob. I can't afford the really top-notch blades, and I've never taken the time to learn how to use a whetstone or a sharpening steel. But I do like the Kuhn-Rikon and Pure Komachi knives I have, and when their edges finally dulled, I wasn't thrilled at the prospect of buying all-new blades.

I took a chance on the Kuhn-Rikon Mini Pro, and it's great! 20 swipes through the disks, and I can cut through an orange without putting any pressure on the knife handle. The sharpener is small and tucks away nicely. It may not be the connoisseur's choice, but it works for me!

If I could select merely one knife from them all this would be it. The edge, the balance, the beauty, the pure sharpness of this knife, has to be experienced to be believed. I have used mine 7 days a week for a year and have not once touched the blade to any steel or honing implement. I use it at home, in the restaurant and on catering gigs. The special 16-degree angle edge is magnificently durable.

When you wish your Shun knife sharpened, box it up send it to the factory in Oregon. All you have to pay for is the shipping to get it to them. They will sharpen it for you and return it to you, free of charge. NEVER take your Shun to the little cutlery store in the mall, as they will ruin it. Do not attempt to sharpen these knives yourself UNLESS you know exactly what you are doing.

This knife feels comfortable to use; it slices elegantly and smoothly through thick or thin meat and produce. I can slice very thin or thick even slices.

I have large hands and the handle fits perfect. This knife also looks great. I considered a MAC Chef Knife; but the Shun left-handed handle feels perfect. I think the handle is small enough for people with smaller hands too. I did also consider a high quality tier Wusthof or Henckel; but I did not like their handles or feel.

The Shun feels ideal in terms of weight and balance and all forms of cutting and slicing. I do having a paring knife; but it is not a Shun. I am considering getting a Shun Paring Knife as my Henckel (middle quality tier) is no where near as sharp and it's handle is a little short compared with the Shun. The blade and over all look of the Shun Classic Chef knife is beautiful. It is my favorite and best knife I have owned.

I use a bamboo cutting board with this knife. I rinse them off and wipe them dry after each use; both the Knife and cutting board. They are easy to wash and dry. The knife is a joy to use and makes food preparation fun. I keep my Shun Chef Knife in a wooden block. This knife is worth it's cost.

my girlfriend got my this knife for my birthday this year, I love it!! I can't believe I managed without it. I am a chef/line cook at a fast paced restaurant, We do over 200 people a night and this knife makes it possible and fun. when it comes to working in a kitchen time isn't always on you side. A friend of ours had this knife on his boat and used it to cut through solid pieces of frozen bait. It worked like a charm! I bought several sizes and liked them so much I bought several more. They are so easy to clean and have a solid plastic handle that has a great grip. The blade is serrated but cuts very neatly through anything. I have no complaints about these knives and would buy more in a heartbeat.

The biggest disappointment with this set was the "Elegant Aluminum Carrying Case", it is aluminum but it very cheaply constructed and didn't even survive being shipped without coming apart in a couple of places, I had to pop the face sheet back into place on both sides since the metal edges that are supposed to hold the face sheet in place are too flimsy to do the job. It simply will not last being used.

Progressive International Set of 6 Chopping MatsThese aren't the most durable, but they do last through quite a few uses. The colors are cheerful, and they work fine. Their thin shape makes them easy to store. You can even curl them in your hands to make a sort of funnel to easily dump the chopped food into a pot. Nice item, and a bargain. And you can clean them in the dishwasher.

Recommended, but with these limitations: (1) Because they are so thin, you don't want to put anything hot onto them -they will warp. (2) Because they are so light, they can slide around the counter. These limitations eventually made me switch to much more expensive, thick, rubber-footed cutting boards -but only after a long period using these with good results.

I purchased these because they were highly recommended by Cooks Illustrated. The best chopping mats I've used to-date. Love the individual colored mats for fish, meat, veggies, etc.....helps avoid cross contamination. Will purchase sets for my children when they go out on their own.

At first glance, these seemed like sturdy cutting mats. But the larger size will not stay flat they curl, making them useless. Cheap price, cheap product.

These chopping mats are useless and a total waste of money. They curl on the sides so that they don't lie flat making them impossible to cut on. And the curling only gets worse if you put them in the dishwasher (they are supposed to be dishwasher safe). I'm throwing them out and looking for another set.

Also useful for portion control. We use it for roasts and blocks of cheese for the same reasons. I just got this knife, so I am sure we will find several other uses as time passes.

This bread knife is well-made, sturdy, and very sharp. The mechanism for adjusting the thickness of the slices is easy to use. I had a bit of trouble with keeping the knife perfectly vertical so the slices are uniform all the way to the bottom crust, but that is improving with practice. Any kind of bread cuts easily, even if it is hot.

It's nearest competition is more than 100 dollars and I simply cannot justify that amount of money. I have an entire set of Henckels classics. They are all high quality at an affordable price point. My only concern was how long it would last, it's forged so as long as you know how to sharpen a knife, it will last.

These scissors appear to be well made and fit my large hands well. I did not purchase for "heavy duty" tasks so I cannot comment on how they would perform in that regard. They are great for trimming herbs, cutting pastry sheets, and similar tasks. I would be wary of trying to use them for something like cutting through bones. The price is very reasonable for the quality of the product.

Hard chopping surfaces, improper storage and other abuse will dull knives, making them dangerous to use. A good steel is essential to keeping knives operating at peak performance, and this steel is the best I've ever used. (Just for the record, I've owned and regularly used a Chicago Cutlery steel for years, a generic steel that came with a knife set and a cheap one from the hardware store bargain bin. The CC one worked better than the hardware store example, but no better than the generic one. All three of these are round and fit in a knife block and when I use them, I'm never sure I'm getting the right results. The steels themselves are slippery, and using them is more of a ritual than a procedure.

I chose this steel to review because the holidays were approaching and there's never a better time to review a kitchen tool than at a time when heavy use is on the agenda. I was expecting a steel the same size as the one that came with my knife set. Au contraire, mes amis; this thing is HUGE! It arrived in an enormous box and my jaw dropped when I unpacked it--just a little longer and wider and you'd have a nice cricket bat. It came in a rather flimsy protective case that secures with a snap just above the handle. The snap parted company from the rest of the case, but that's not a huge deal; it was one of those cases that you can't figure out if you're supposed to keep it, anyway. Initially, I was disappointed in the handle. It's brown plastic and I thought the heft and quality of the steel itself deserved wood, but now I appreciate the plastic. It's easier to clean and seems to be durable.

As far as the steel itself goes, I tried it first on a dullish chef's knife before dicing a large onion. Three swipes per side made an enormous difference. The oval steel gives a nice broad surface and much more control while sharpening than does the standard round steel. The knife sliced quickly and cleanly without snagging, which was a level of performance I haven't gotten from that particular knife in a long time. Inspired, I immediately went to work on my other knives with equally impressive results. The steel's extra breadth and length is perfect for large butcher's knives as well as for tiny paring knives. This steel has made it possible to resurrect several knives I'd pretty much given up on because they'd gotten dangerously inaccurate. The oval shape is so lovely and satisfying to work with, I've thrown away my other steels. They feel downright cheesy and I'll never go back.

This steel is brilliantly efficient at what it's supposed to do, the only downside is that storage might be an issue in an average kitchen. It won't fit in a knife block or a drawer. I hung it on my pot rack and it's fine there. Mine is more of utilitarian kitchen than a model home type--I don't mind things showing, but House Beautiful types might not be pleased. I highly, highly recommend this steel.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program I just received this today. Confession: I tend to be lazy about sharpening my knives. I have purchased knife sharpeners before, but they were, from what I could tell, for lazy people and didn't work very well.

This sharpening instrument takes more work. But we had a roasted chicken breast (bone-in) for dinner tonight. I used this tool to sharpen my favorite knife for this specific task beforehand. Mirabile dictu! The knife did a better job of cutting than is its norm! Thus, it appears that this sharpening tool has an upside to it.

Before any definitive word, of course, I will have to use it over time. But, I can say this--my first exercise with this was very promising. . . .

Got this for my son and he said it wasn't as good as a stone or other sharpeners he has had in the past. He was disappointed with it, especially when it cost so much! It looked like it was nice and heavy but I guess looks are not what I expected.

Admittedly, this is my first kitchen sharpening/honing steel. Always one to keep pocketknives and tools sharp, I've been wanting a kitchen steel for some time. Finally, I decided to buy this on a lightning deal, and I'm glad I did.

Of course, I can't compare it to other kitchen steels, and I don't know if others are for sharpening as opposed to this being a "honing" steel. But after putting up a hook for it in my kitchen, I used the new steel on about a dozen kitchen knives. Though some took more effort than others, it generally didn't take long before I was able to shave the hair off my arm with most of them. I was planning on buying a set of very high quality kitchen knives, but I'm glad that I bought this first. This steel has brought new life to the knives I have had for years, and should help them hold me over at least until next year's round of holiday sales. Much smarter than spending the money on a set of great knives without having a steel to keep them in shape.

I will echo the other reviewers' sentiments on the appearance and feel of this steel. I love its size and heft, though given that the size requires hanging it (which also should serve as a reminder to use it), I would much prefer if the handle looked nicer. I don't mind the dense plastic so much, but maybe make it black or something. Also, if you plan on giving this as a gift, expect to come up with your own packaging. The flimsy plastic sheath that came with this steel was literally split in half at the seams before I even opened the package. The pictures that another reviewer put up actually make the sheath look nicer than it is, if you can believe that. So don't plan on the sheath for extended use or even initial presentation. Amazon has great customer service, and would probably try and help you get one that at least makes delivery without falling apart, but even if you were the sort to bother them over something like this (especially after being forewarned), you would be wasting your time. I would rather give this without the sheath than seem to cheapen the gift of this nice steel by including the flimsy sheath that will certainly fall apart immediately.

Overall though, I am very glad I bought this product.

Unfortunately, after the first dishwash, the plastic legs came off, but as they were mostly unnecessary, I didn't care. Gourmet cooks will probably require a higher standard (and price), but for the average household, several of these boards are perfect.

These acrylic boards are superior to other types of cutting boards I have tried. They do not stain, do not retain odors, are effortless to clean and dry, and storage is also easy. I have three different sizes (this is the one I use the most). I also have a larger size for dinner preparation for larger groups, and a small-sized one that I can hang on my kitchen utility storage rack. Works great for cutting cheese, chopping veggies (especially onions). I would like to see these come with different designs available to help coordinate with other kitchen decorations, or when giving as a gift. I am thinking of looking for some waterproof window decals to stick on the underside of the board, such as flowers, garden vegetables or cute little animals. I always wash my boards by hand -I do not use a dishwasher nor do I let them soak in the dishwater.

I think these are more sanitary than the wooden ones and they are easy to clean by putting them in the dishwasher. It's a good size. I have about 5 of them and I wash them in dishwasher after each use. They scratch eventually, but not much. Those little feet always fall off, so I don't even miss them.

I mainly bought this because it is clear and I can leave it out on the counter without it appearing in the way in the kitchen. As others have mentioned, on of the "legs" did come off after a couple of weeks but I put it back on (without any additional adhesive) and it hasn't come off again several weeks later. I'm not an expert on knives but from what I've read, this is not the best surface to have to maintain a nice edge.

Bottom line: If you have a nice knife collection and need something to preserve them, stay away from this and any cutting board like it. If you don't care about your cutlery and just need something cheap to cut up veggies on, this may be the item for you.

I have a bad habit of cutting right on my counter because I'm too lazy to get out a cutting board to slice something small and quick. I stayed at all suites hotel recently where they had one of these on the counter. It blended right into the counter and was there when I needed it. Right after i got home, I searched and found this one. Now it has a permanent home right on my counter and gets used almost everyday.

These scissors performed wonderfully. Made easy work of cutting through the crab shell. I ordered 2 for less than 1 of the other brands. The only thing that would make these scissors better is colored handles. My 2nd pair disappeared during at a crab feed because the white handle blended in with the white plastic table cloth, white disposable plates and white crab shells and a bus boy must have picked them up in a pile of shells. I'll let my family buy there own next time but will recommend these scissors to them.

These scissors do not work for me as a crab cut. They might be useful for something else in the kitchen.
