Chicago Cutlery Landmark 14pc Block Set

Chicago Cutlery Landmark 14pc Block SetThese knives look great and work great in person. The cutting block is not as dark as in the picture. The knives look great in stainless steel and have a black rubber material on the handle which provide great grip and the knives are super sharp. The first set I received had some minor blemishes but the customer service team was very helpful and helped me to get a replacement set. I think these knives could be even better with higher standards of quality control from Chicago cutlery but, overall, it's a great set of knives for the price.

Ginsu Nuri Series 3-Piece Chef's Set with Multi Color Handles 5803

Ginsu Nuri Series 3-Piece Chef's Set with Multi Color Handles 5803Neat looking and sharp but the description has errors.. It states here dishwasher safe and limited lifetime warranty, but on the back of the package it clearly states DO NOT use in a dishwasher instead "hand wash and towel dry after each use", plus "Limited 1 year warranty" I always hand wash and dry all my knives anyway so that isn't an issue for me, but others should know about this error this before making a purchase.. Highly recommended and at this price with great quality.. Highly recommended.>>> Update: 3/25/13 Knives are holding up well although I do have other knives I use also but these do a great job and are thicker than other colored knives I own from Kia and Hampton Forge. I got some blade guards for them to protect the edges since they don't come with covers.

The green one is my fave! Cuts through chicken like BUTTER! Don't use the other one's as frequently, but they're sharp as hell and fab too! Love the "soft" handles. Makes them easier to grab and less prone to slipping.

Swissmar Cheese Plane, Hard Cheese, Stainless Steel

Swissmar Cheese Plane, Hard Cheese, Stainless SteelContrary to the previous review on this item, this is an excellent cheese plane that I would recommend to anyone that likes hard cheese, as I do. In fact, its excellent for the specific fact that it's so hard and rigid. Most cheese planes (basically, every other one I've come across) is cheap and floppy when you want to cut really hard cheese like aged Gouda or Parmesan, the plane practically falls apart before the cheese does. Not this one, which is as sturdy as it gets. It is, without question, the most useful cheese implement that I have in my collection.

It's not perfect; I don't care for the handle (or in general, Swissmar's handles in general). They're a bit lightweight and unimpressive; not molded at all, feel a bit flimsy in the hard. Compare these to the J.A. Henckels cheese knives, for example, which feel a lot better in the hand and more impressive to look at (hey, if you're entertaining people, that's important!). Oh, and its true that they're made in China. Pretty disappointing for a company named "Swissmar".

Despite imperfections, though, I wouldn't be without it.

I have been looking for a good cheese plane, and this one isn't it. It works fine for rubbery semi-soft cheeses like swiss, but not for harder cheese like cheddar, which tend to crrumble before I can finish a slice. The problem is that the plane it too thick and rigid. It should be thin and flexible.

Also, don't let the name fool you. This utensil is made in China, a country which consumes very little cheese.

I already have one of these cheese planes and ordered this one for a friend.

This cheese plane is much better that other cheese planes that I have looked at.

It is all one piece, easy to keep clean, no locations to get scraps of cheese embedded in and cuts cheese very well

PROS:

Shears open and close easily for cutting. They are not at all stiff to use!

Blades are made with high-carbon stainless steel so they stay sharp longer.

One blade is serrated to prevent slippage during cutting and another is smooth to ensure a clean cut.

Bone notch at end of kitchen shear blade easily cuts through chicken bones

Blades meet together for smooth, precision cutting.

When opened to the fullest, the blades come apart for easy cleaning.

Rugged synthetic handles for either right or left handed users.

Fiesta Shamrock 5-Piece Flatware Set, Service for 1

Fiesta Shamrock 5-Piece Flatware Set, Service for 1A great compliment to Fiestaware! Good quality for the money; knives are not sharp enough to cut easily and the handles will take a little more room in the dishwasher and/or silverware rack. However, they are well-made and a fun addition to the table setting!

I love Fiestaware, so I thought I would love this flatware. I bought 12 sets. Within 1 week one of my knives bottoms fell off. Super glued it back together. Within the next few months, a total of 27 pieces have broken or are totally bent. Usually what happens if the little circular clip where the metal meets the plastic falls off, then there is nothing left to keep the metal part from bending. I have talked to someone, they are going to replace these pieces for me, but it is just going to keep happening. I do have kids, who are probably rough with these but they are flatware they should be able to last longer than a year. I totally regret buying these, which I had invested in something different.

Kuchenprofi 14-Inch Magnetic Knife Rack in 18/10 Stainless Steel

Kuchenprofi 14-Inch Magnetic Knife Rack in 18/10 Stainless SteelWe purchased two of the magnetic knife racks. They are mounted on a wall near our kitchen cabinets. The quality is fine and all the knives are held firmly in place until needed. Even the large butcher knives are secure. Definitely much better than the old way of keeping them in a drawer and using a knife block. You can see quickly which kind of knife you need.

I bought this rack after seeing my daughter's. It holds the knives well, was easy to mount and looks good. It is close to my kitchen sink so I can wash my knives and immediately hang them. So much safer than having them in a drawer. Better than a knife rack on the counter taking up space and I can easily see which knife I need and if one is missing.

I never even thought to own one of these. My mom ask for one for Christmas and I bought it for her. Knives stay clean now since it's easier to just wash them off and hang them up rather then throw them in the sink. I would highly recommend this. It's cheap and saves space and time.

I did not allow for additional space and could have used two more inches of rack.

Oneida Paul Revere 6-Piece Progress Flatware Set

Oneida Paul Revere 6-Piece Progress Flatware SetI just love this set. I feel each piece is the perfect size!

I love the metal feeding spoon. It is just right for baby's mouth and can be used effectively to scoop up mush from the chin.

If you are providing a Montessori environment at home the toddler fork and spoon are perfect for little hands.

The larger 'junior' set will be about right for a 3-4 year old.

I received this set as a gift from my mother-in-law when my older son turned 1. I honestly didn't think much of it at the time, other than the set was cute. 2 years, and another baby later, and these pieces are the most used flatware in my house. They have held up amazingly well to countless dishwashings, unlike the other plastic kids' cutlery we have cycled through. The larger fork and knife are the perfect size for my 3 year old, and the smaller fork and knife are the perfect size for my 20 month old. I like that the fork tines are sharp enough to stab food because so many plastic forks are not, and I've yet to meet a toddler that can successfully scoop up anything with a fork. I love that these are nice and look just like mommy and daddy's fork and spoon because it encourages my kids to use their utensils and makes my 3 year old feel grown-up. I'll admit, the knife is not all that useful for the kids, but at my mother-in-law's suggestion, I use it as a butter knife and it fits perfectly on the butter dish. I use the small spoon with a long handle to eat ice cream (because it makes my tiny portions last longer!), and it's also what I give my boys to eat their yogurt with (smaller spoon means smaller bites which means less yogurt spilling!). Of course, it was also great when my boys were babies and I was spoon feeding them.

The set is very attractive, and has not rusted or tarnished in any way, and I dish wash the forks and spoons EVERY DAY...it is as high quality as any regular sized oneida flatware set. This is my go-to baby gift now...looks like my mother-in-law knew what she was doing all along! :)

I almost always give these for baby shower gifts and it a gift one doesn't think of giving or getting. Any person seems to love receiving these for her baby gift. These are high quality and they are strong 18/8. I've done the ice cream test with these and they didn't bend. This is something that can be past on from generation to generation.

Messermeister Pro Touch Swivel Peeler

Messermeister Pro Touch Swivel PeelerNo more blanching! It is just amazing. I saw them using it on America's Test Kitchen and could not believe it. But it works. The only caveat is that if you're peeling 8 or 10, say for sauce, blanching is still quicker. And for everything else, the OXO peelers are still the best, especially the new "i" series swivel model. But for that "one tomato, peeled and seeded" recipes, this is it.

I purchased the Messermeister Pro-Touch Serrated Swivel Peeler because it was recommended by Cook's Illustrated magazine. As usual, the folks at CI were right. This peeler is super-sharp and cuts through produce peels almost effortlessly.

The blades on most vegetable peelers tend to get dull over time from a combination of normal wear from being used and from being knocked around with other prep tools and utensils .in a kitchen drawer. In the past, I bought slightly less expensive peelers and resigned myself to replacing them more frequently when the blades became dull. However, this Messermeister peeler is not that much more expensive than the OXO Good Grips peelers I had purchased previously (which are nice quality as well), and it comes with a plastic blade cover to protect the sharp edges during storage. This should keep the blades sharp much longer, making it a better value in the long run even though it costs a little more up front.

I used to throw my vegetable peelers in the dishwasher, but with this one I've been hand-washing it immediately after I use it (sometimes all it needs is a quick rinse), drying it and putting on the protective blade cover before returning it to the utensil drawer. So far, it has kept its razor-sharp edge and remains a joy to use.

I doubt I'll ever actually enjoy peeling fruits or vegetables, but this tool certainly helps me get the job done faster and more easily. What more can you ask from a vegetable peeler?

We read about this device, in a UK newspaper, and, as a 'senior person' with many years of struggling with various makes and designs of peelers, was impressed with the comments. so I imported two from Califonia via

a relative and have found it to be 'simply the best' it selfclears the peelings, is razor sharp and the serrations appear to

grip the item one is peeling. I have been waiting all my adult for just this kitchen tool. Well done the design engineers of Messermeister.

OXO Good Grips Wire Cheese Slicer

OXO Good Grips Wire Cheese SlicerI have had the WORST luck with wire cheese slicers , regardless of whether they were purchased at the grocery store or gourmet cooking shop. I actually had a $20.00 slicer fall apart with its very first use. I just bought this one a month ago, and though its longevity has yet to be proven, I just had to slice a TON of cheese for a large family Christmas party of 30 people, and was SO glad I bought this when I did! I love the grippy handle, and it made relatively quick work of 6 Sam's Club size blocks of cheese. It worked well on cheddar, monterey jack, colby, colby jack and mozerella. It has a nice weight and feel, and if it's as good as the rest of the Good Grips line, I expect it to last for a very long time.

I was very disappointed with this cheese slicer--the wire broke after about the fourth use. I have always had good experiences with Oxo and was very surprised.

I absolutely LOVE my OXO good grips wire cheese slicer. My husband told me I didn't need one.. "Cheese slicer??? What's wrong with a knife??" Bah! Nothing says cheese like a good cheese slicer to give you those nice even slices.. I got desperate. I put my OXO cheese slicer on our wedding registry. He laughed at me.. but a friend of ours got it for me!!! I can't tell you how much I love using this slicer.. The last cheese slicer I had broke after a few uses, but NOT the OXO! My OXO cheese slicer is still going strong after a year, and looks still new.. and the handle! If you've ever used OXO you know how comfortable it is in your hand!I would recommend the Oxo good grips wire cheese slicer to everyone!!!

Read Best Reviews of OXO Good Grips Wire Cheese Slicer Here

I should have checked out other reviews because Oxo makes another item almost identical to this that has more bad reviews than you can shake a stick at. I bought this to replace another wire cheese slicer I got in a supermarket years ago that was starting to show its' age. I'm glad I didn't throw it away when this came, because I'm back to using it after about a week. Like all Oxo products I've had this looked and felt great, and like all of them it worked great as well...at first. Unfortunately, like a few Oxo products, this was not very well built. The design, ergonomics and function were all first class, but it broke after about a week. The wire snapped out and there is no way to replace it. Some of the better wire slicers have screws in the handle to allow the user to replace broken or loose wires, some even come with replacement wires, but not this one. I'm really dissapointed because Oxo makes some really wonderful products, but they also turn out a real turkey every now and then and this is one of them. Don't buy it!

Want OXO Good Grips Wire Cheese Slicer Discount?

The first couple of times I used this cheese slicer, the wire stretched out, making the slices thicker than they're supposed to be. Today I finally cut through a hard hunk of sharp cheddar and POP the wire broke. For $20, I expect more. Next time I'll buy a non-wire cheese slicer. VERY disappointed as I expect more of OXO.

Messermeister 7-Slot Mu Knife Block

Messermeister 7-Slot Mu Knife BlockLove the looks of this something different yet functional. But how can you buy a knife block without the dimensions of the block and the slots? No where to be found here or elsewhere.

This knife block is perfect for those who don't want a giant wooden rectangle on their counter. The only downside is that it doesn't have a slot for a honing steel. I would still recommend though.

Sekiryu Yanagiba Sashimi Knife 300mm

Sekiryu Yanagiba Sashimi Knife 300mmI think this knife is a good value if you want this specific kind of specialized knife.

You might want to know that I'm a bit of a sharpening geek, and I spent some time getting the edge just how I wanted, but now that I have it slices like nothing else in my knife drawer (of about 20 knives). I'm not sure I would be this satisfied if I hadn't known how to resharpen the edge to my satisfaction. Others have noted it doesn't hold up to multiple re-sharpenings which I'm sure means they haven't known how to restore the edge properly. The steel is just fine. It's not super high-grade knife steel perhaps, but it takes a keen edge just fine and holds up when ground at the right angle.

I'm sure it's not for everybody. I'm not sure how long the factory edge would hold up without some loving care. And it's a very specialized knife, really optimized for slicing fish into sashimi-sized slices.

But I wanted to try out this style of knife and the next price point for a knife of this style was about $100, more than I wanted to pay to experiment.

For those who might care about the sharpening details, I started by flattening and then polishing the back to 2000-grit (actually just the edges of the back get flattened and polished since the back is hollow-ground). This is a must-do step to get a really keen edge since the edge is only ground on one side (like a plane iron). Then I trued up the primary grind on the other side to 15 degrees (seemed like it was about 17 to start), then put a secondary edge at about 20 degrees when the 15 degree edge wouldn't hold up very well. With the secondary edge polished to 2000-grit, the edge cuts (slices, not chops) extremely well, better than any knife I've ever used, and seems to be holding up well with a gentle (ceramic) steeling before each use.

I feel like I have a good feel for this style of knife now and might invest in a higher-end model later if the spirit moves :)

Do note that this knife is shorter than described and as it appears in the picture. The blade length is 200mm, not 300mm, and the overall length of the knife, including handle, is 320mm. Knife length is properly described by the length of the cutting blade, not including the handle.

I purchased this knife for my son who is the executive chef at a private country club. He says the knife is unbelievably sharp and is as good as other Japanese style knives costing hundreds of more dollars. The knife resharpens easily and is the perfect length for most applications, not too long and not too short. It is a great value if you are looking for a good knife and don't want to spend a lot of money.

One note of caution. The knife is advertised as a 300mm or 12 inch knife. The actual blade length is 8 inches so if you are looking for a 12 inch slicer this is not the knife for you.

I bought this for a friend who makes very yummie sushi. Her old knife was just a basic chef style. She loves this knife! At one point, she barely touched the blade to the side of her finger and made a small slice. Not bad at all, just very sharp. The single-bevel blade and shaped handle make it fit well in the hand. Slice on!

We make sushi at home, but when it came time to cut the rolls they would get squished or would fall apart when using a regular serrated knife. After watching a dozen of youtube videos, I realized that I was using the wrong tool. Anyways, this knife is the bomb: it is very sharp and very long, so with one long stroke you can cut a perfect roll slice without pressing the rice and keeping everything intact. It also comes in a reusable box that is very handy as this knife is too sharp to keep exposed in a knife drawer. I would definitely recommend.

Want Sekiryu Yanagiba Sashimi Knife 300mm Discount?

For the price, you get a really decent knife if not great. Its a great beginner knife for people who are not sure if these knives will be the ones for them or not. Its still great if you are into it and just need a knife. Works wonderfully, keep it mind, the knife comes per-sharpen so there is no need to sharpen it out of the box. Also, the 300mm stated on the title is from tip of the blade to the end of the handle. So really the blade isn't that long, more like 170 to 180mm.

Wusthof 8pcsteak 8-Piece Stainless-Steel Steak Knife Set with Wooden Gift Box

Wusthof 8pcsteak 8-Piece Stainless-Steel Steak Knife Set with Wooden Gift BoxFirst off, let me say that we don't eat much steak any more (cholesterol problems). We're not steak knife experts who insist on some particular type of blade edge. We do NOT like big ugly steak-house-restaurant type knives on our table. And finally, we don't care a fig about how good or bad a storage box looks. Our knives are rarely stored for long because whenever we serve any meat or fowl, we've always put steak knives out with the flatware. And OH MY, this Wusthof set is *phenomenally* nicer than the equally simple but hysterically expensive black-handled ones from Germany that we've been using for decades. This is solid, sleek, hefty-feeling stuff. The design goes wonderfully with our other flatware ranging from fancy to plain (in fact, the steak knife is actually heavier than some of the flatware pieces sitting next to it on the table). And YES it DOES cut very well indeed -which is all hub & I ask from any knife!

I have been looking for quality steak knives for a while now and when I saw these I thought they were not only beautiful to look at, but well made. We have been grilling a lot more now that we have them! They feel great in your hand and you can't beat the price. They wash well in the dishwasher too.

Buy Wusthof 8pcsteak 8-Piece Stainless-Steel Steak Knife Set with Wooden Gift Box Now

Since I've gotten married recently, I've been introduced to "nicer" things that one normally wouldn't buy on their own. For example, silverware/flatware... who figured that once you get married it's awesome you get to have silverware/flatware that's priced at $150? For pretty much my entire life, I've always used hand me downs or that cheap stuff you get at Walmart ($20-range) and even my parents didn't have a nice set of silverware/flatware.

But the sad thing is that aside from my own collection of Wusthof kitchen knives and the nice Mikasa set I got for the wedding, I was still using my college days steak knives. The kind that really didn't cut well and was rusting in some places. After realizing how embarrassing it was, I decided to go on a quest to find new steak knives... Specifically with the following criteria:

1. The knives had to match the finish/color of my new Mikasa silverware/flatware.

2. The knives had to be less than $100 on Amazon.

3. Serration didn't matter.

With those 3 criteria, Amazon gave me a nice list and I narrowed it down based on appearance. In the end, it came down to the Wusthof I'm reviewing and the J.A. Henckels S.O.S. 8-Piece Stainless-Steel Steak Knife Set in Wood Gift Box. Both J.A. Henckels and Wusthof are considered top of the line European knives and in comparison, they perform nearly identical. I double-checked my research and made sure the J.A. Henckles were of the Zwilling variety and NOT the J.A. Henckles International variety. For those of you that didn't know, the "International" is the lower grade category of knives made by J.A. Henckles. The differentiation of the two can easily be identified by their logo, as International has "1 man" and the Zwilling has "2 men".

But in the end, I chose the Wusthof because I already own: Wusthof Le Cordon Bleu 6 inch Cooks Chef Knife, Wusthof Le Cordon Bleu 8 inch Carving Knife, Wusthof Le Cordon Bleu 6 inch Utility Knife, and the 8" Le Cordon Bleu Chef's Knife. Consider it partial brand loyalty.

Upon receiving the knives I noticed that they were genuine Wusthof knives and came in a nicely sized box. I noticed that the box itself looked nothing like the Amazon photo. It appears Wusthof has updated the "package" for the steak knives because the box is very similar to the one you would get at Williams-Sonoma (). The box is has a nice cherry finish and the emblem in the bottom right is that of the Wusthof logo. The one Amazon pictures is some kind of circular logo. Another difference is that instead of a latch for closing, the one I received had no latch and was closed via magnets inside the lid of the box.

On the inside, gone was the black felt that covered the top with the colored Wusthof logo. Instead, it was bare wood with the Wusthof name & logo stamped in black ink. The individual slots where the knives were held seemed much different than the original picture. There isn't as much wood and the black felt isn't laid out on the bottom either. Overall, the external aspect of the box seems to have improved but the inside of the box lacked the quality of the original picture.

As for the knives, they all came individually wrapped in plastic and have slight differences than the original pictured ones on Amazon. First and foremost, these knives are gorgeous and the nicest knives I've seen/used so far. They have a very nice polished appearance and yes, fingerprints will be left on them. I don't mind that because my Mikasa flatware have the same kind of finish and I got these primarily to match them. Trust me if you have these, people will likely compliment you.

The tip of the knife is slightly rounded rather than a sharp point. I'm not sure why they made the change, but you can still stab meat & other food items with it. I suppose they did it so it wouldn't break skin if it accidentally fell on your foot or something.

The opposite end of the knife (the handle) is a squared off edge vs the rounded one of the Amazon original picture. Again, not sure why the change but if you have the older set, just know these aren't going to match.

The serration is slightly different than that of the picture. Amazon's picture clearly shows the serration on each side, but these knives only have the serration on 1 side. The other side has no evidence of serration. However, don't let the 1-sided serration fool you. These knives definitely do cut through cooked meats like steak & chicken much better than my $20 Walmart knives. Even compared to steakhouse knives, these perform the job and that's all we really want when cutting into our meat, right?

Last but not least, the stamp on the knives clearly say Wusthof on it in capital letters with the Wusthof logo on one side of the knife. The original Amazon picture had "Wusthof Trident" in generic font with an older version of the Wusthof logo.

Overall, I'm extremely happy with these knives. They look and perform great and that's mainly the goal. The carrying case is improved on the exterior but slightly downgraded in the interior. I personally like the case and use it to store my knives, but others may just through it in the garbage. Highly recommended.

Oh and don't forget I posted pictures of the new knives so you could see the difference between Amazon's and mine.

We got these knives as a bridal shower gift in 2002 for our wedding from my great-aunt. We got the 8 piece set in the brown wooden box. True the box is not the greatest, but it doesn't really matter because the knives are what matter. The only reason tbe box matters is if you are giving the item as a gift, then of course you would want it to look ok (which ours did) but it doesn't have to hold up to much wear and tear. The box does what it is supposed to do. The knives seem to have a timeless classic and simple style that goes well with "fancy" or casual meals equally. We've used them at Christmas for prime-rib, mixed with our heirloom silver plated utensils, as well as with our everyday stainless. Not only are the knives good for steak, but also for chicken breasts. We are health-minded as well and yet it is nice to have these knives out when we have chicken, turkey, ham, etc. The kives are well balanced, attractive, sharp, and do a wonderful job at what they're supposed to, plus they look and feel good doing it! Yea!

Kuhn Rikon Nonstick Serrated Knife

Kuhn Rikon 4-Inch Nonstick Colori Serrated Paring Knife, GreenI found the best price for this knife on Amazon after reading a review in the NY Times. A great utility knife for slicing small fruits and vegetables!

I have used the Kuhn Rikon parers and been very satisfied with their performance. So I decided to give this small Paring Knife a place in my backpack camping supplies. Very pleased with it--it's just the right size and the protective sheath makes it a plus! I used it for onions, tomatoes, and other veggies. Handled everything with ease! Love the colors!

I am always on the hunt for a tomato knife. I had a red one of these but it disappeared from my kitchen before I could give it a timely try. Anything in a color suckers me in. I loved this knife but it only lasted one tomato season and I am not certain how to resharpen the serrated edges. It has been sent to the back of the knife drawer in the "this-doesn't-work-anymore-but-I-can't-bear-to-throw-it-away" zone. It has lots of company.

This is a great little knife. I bought it to keep in my lunch box to cut up fruit at work. It is very sharp and slices through apples like nobody's business. I love that it has a protective sheath so I can just throw it in the bag and go.

I know it sounds silly, but I'd rather use a bright green knife at work because people always freak out when they see you using a normal kitchen knife in public. This knife looks plastic and I haven't heard any Norman Bates jokes since I started using it.
