Yamazaki Old Denmark 5 Piece Placesetting, Service for 1

Yamazaki Old Denmark 5 Piece Placesetting, Service for 1For the past 21 years, Yamazaki "Old Denmark" has graced the table of our home. It's beauty has not faded nor has it's strength. It managed to survive the raising of a child, three dishwashers and countless meals and diners.

Over the years, we have added to our collection; twenty place settings, many extra serving pieces and just last summer-ice tea spoons. It's actually difficult to tell the new from the old. Another plus-the pattern hasn't been discontinued. Highly recommended!

Yamazaki's really hit it on the head with the Old Denmark pattern. These are very beautiful well made (in Japan) and nicely weighted. It is a satin finish and will scratch if abrasives are used. If you are thinking of buying these, note that the length appears a bit short and that the forks have 3 tines not 4. The hafnia is a great alternative to Old Denmark, a bit more balanced and seemingly longer and therefore easier to hold. I highly recommend Yamazaki take advantage of Amazon's 4 for 3 promotion, this is the best price you will get on these!

Solid, hefty, incredibly well made, long-lasting, and they complement any other tableware you may pair them with.

They are so nice to hold and to use, fitting the hand comfortably. This is what flatware ought to be like.

A friend of mine had a dinner fork of this pattern. Only one fork. It was used as a small serving fork. After using it I went online to find out what it was. I purchased eight place settings. I can see why the pieces retail at $85 per place setting. The quality is the best I have ever encountered and the balance of each piece is perfect. I am sorry that I didn't know about this company and pattern 20 years ago.

I too own this pattern. Since the late 80's, as I recall. All of the great things about the looks and quality are true. I've used mine for daily use since buying, as I loved the style so much. And use most of the time for special dinners, as well. The thing that I am so thankful to report, is how I got my set. I bought these at old Weinstocks, on compounded discounts....something like 50% and 40%.....all I remember is the cost to me PER PLACE SETTING was $13.50. And I bought about 10 PS and serving pieces at the time. Later, I added more pieces, but not at the original great deal, but much better than today's going prices. So I'm a very happy camper. They are still lovely to this day. And all I do is hand wash or dish washer. Imagine if I got off my duff and hand polished. $13.50/PS!!! THAT was my luckiest of shopping day.
