Eureka Arlington 521 Zipper Chest

Eureka Arlington 521 Zipper ChestWhew! I finally found a suitable flatware chest! After a couple failed attempts at chests that claimed they'd fit at least 16 place settings and extra serving pieces required, I am happy to say the search is over! If you're still searching for a flatware chest, you know how hard it is to find one that happens to fit that magic number of place settings and all the serving pieces you have in your collection. There are 3 Reed & Barton chests of this sort. I ordered the "Arlington" because it was slightly larger than I needed (16 place settings and lots of serving pieces), and I'm glad I did. Although I do have a little room to spare, this set does the trick. Regardless of the leatherette construction, it's of surprisingly nice quality and has heavy duty zippers, canvas, and snaps for closure. Well worth the $100 I paid for it (Neiman Marcus and plenty of others, charge lots more).

My 12 setting silver set had overwhelmed the original wood chest long ago. Serving pieces, butter knives, fish service, and dessert spoons were being stored separately. It was a nuisance to set the table. This chest has ample room for a twelve piece setting with all the extras. It is well made and completely covered inside and out. The leatherette is unlikely to scratch your table or buffet. It is light enough to easily carry to wherever you are setting up your service. A year in, my silver is not tarnishing, so it is ready for use at a moment's notice. I purchased a second one for my good stainless set. I would not recommend stacking them as the cover is soft. You would risk damage when you pull one over the other. I have deep adjustable shelves in my buffet and I have each chest on a shelf of its own. This has freed up drawer space for other miscellaneous small serving items (e.g, napkin rings) that used to be boxed and forgotten at the back of those shelves.
