My husband and I received the Zwilling J.A. Henckels Twin Signature 3-Piece Starter Knife Set as a wedding present. Much to my surprise, these knives are everything I expected them to be. I was initially introduced to this brand from my sister who is a chef and claimed these were the best knives on the market. She was right!I have had this set for 6 months, and use them almost every day-the blades are still VERY sharp. The handles on the knives are easy to hold and control. My only complaint is that they're so sharp; I've almost cut my finger off while cutting a piece of chicken. I'm no master chef, but they do the job and don't depreciate with time.
I definitely recommend this set as a platform to start your Henckels collection. It's no wonder why it's a brand known for its quality. Not as good as the forged sets but great for a lower budget starter set.
Easy to use and feels good in your hands.

My wife ordered these. I found several You Tube videos on the knives. The videos are from Zwilling. I used them to trim ribs for the grill. WOW. They are worth it.Want Zwilling J.A. Henckels Twin Signature 3-Piece Starter Set Discount?
I love the selections of the knives that comprise this set, and the value, which is significant quality for a reasonable price. The primary reason I purchased this set was I wanted to replace my aging cutlery with something new. I had one of those blocks with every conceivable knife type, but realized that the only ones I ever used were the chef, utility and paring knives. So to me this is not a starter set it's downsizing to the essentials. This allowed me to get high quality cutlery and still stay within a budget.
On the stamped versus forged argument, forged is still associated with premium quality, professional cutlery, but I am a home user who does not work in a kitchen eight hours per day. I do not believe this set is a compromise nor scrimping on quality and function for home use. Indeed, these would probably stand the test in a restaurant because they hold their edge, have a superb balance and are near razor sharp. For home use these knives hold their edge for a long time.
Another reason I opted for this pared down (no pun intended) set is I already had a high quality honing steel. If you don't have one this model perfectly matches the set: J.A. Henckels 9-Inch Poly Sharpening Steel. For sharpening I recommend the Zwilling J.A. Henckels Twin Sharp Duo Knife Sharpener. Note: the honing steel keeps the blades in alignment and the sharpener actually keeps them sharp. They are two tools with very different purposes. If you don't own both you should in my opinion.
I hand wash and towel dry mine, and since they are a home set that I do not intend to expand I house them in the block from the set I replaced.
These may be the only knives you will need, or you may start here and build out to a more elaborate array of cutlery. Either way, these are a good starting point that will provide years of use if properly cared for.
