Villeroy & Boch Septfontaines 5-Piece Place Setting, Service for 1

I have both Villeroy & Boch bone china and this flatware pattern. The pieces are very attractive, wash well in the dishwasher, and are easily managed by adults and children. I am very happy with this selection.

We purchased a set of these three years ago from Amazon, and have been very happy with them. They have kept their shine over the years despite many trips through the dishwasher. The weight and feel of the pieces is excellent. Sturdy, but not too heavy. They are made in Vietnam, but I don't see any issue with the quality. We look forward to many more years of use.

These are beautiful and exactly what I wanted to go with my Villeroy & Boch dishes. However, they are pricey compared to other flatware of similar quality and so I only received one set from my registry:/ Now I will have to figure out how I can buy a few sets on my own.

I am from Germany and love Villeroy & Boch which is a German company and very popular for its tableware (mostly for its dishes, not so much for its flatware).

When moving to the United States I was surprised that the selection of silverware is more limited than the one in Germany.

The silverware available in the U.S. is mainly produced in Vietnam, only one set I am aware of is made in Indonesia ("Mademoiselle", I think). This would not be a problem for me if it was actually mentioned in the product description or was visible on the amazon photos or on the official website on the Villeroy & Boch website. However, the print "Vietnam" has been removed from the photos with photoshop and the photos do not reflect the actual silverware you will receive. The silverware you will receive has a "Vietnam" print on the kife.

The one advantage of this set compared to other Villeroy & Boch flatware sets is that the Vietnam imprint is on the side of the blade facing the table when placed to the right of the plate. Which means it is only visible when your guests pick up the knife and start eating. However, this print makes an otherwise nice flatware set look cheap.

Another reason I sent back the flatware set is the fact that this knife set ("septfontaines") has a non (!) serrated knife which I personally dislike. All other Villeroy & Boch sets I have tried (six of them) have a serrated knife.

I expected high quality silverware made in Germany (unless mentioned otherwise), but received somewhat quality made silverware made in Vietnam... I am disappointed.

Although Villeroy & Boch is a great company, the distributor sent the wrong item and would not replace with the correct pattern. Is shoddy work accepted with this distributor? I wonder.
