This was my first ceramic knife, a 6" chef's knife. I've had it now for about 4 months, using it regularly -perhaps once a day -during that time. I am religious about keeping the bladeguard on it when I'm not using it.I give it good, but not great marks.
When it arrived, it would shave your forearm. It still does a good job slicing vegetables, trimming meat, chopping onions, doing all the things I want it to. But the super sharp edge only lasted a week or so... and now the main disadvantage (impossible to sharpen it) is becoming an issue.
If you are one of those cooks who has a drawerful of dull knives, if you never take the time to sharpen them, then this is a great knife for you.
If you're a chef who insists on razor edges, you may want to take a pass on it. Your Swiss steel will please you more.

Update February 2013 -The company has advised they will replace the knife. I must cover the return shipping, and include a check for $5.00 to cover S/H for the replacement.

Update March 14, 2013 -I sent the knife back for replacement, as the plastic handle broke. The upper ridge, just above the tang of the ceramic blade, failed. The ceramic blade then parted ways from the handle. I sent the knife and a check for a replacement on February 22. As of today, the replacement has not arrived.

Update April 8, 2013 -The replacement knife arrived. These Jaccard ceramic knives are the absolute BEST knife I have ever used! They have the weight of a conventional steel knife but the sharpness of it is unbelievable with no sharpening needed! There are other ceramic knives out there but these have the 'feel' of a steel blade. I cannot believe it took me so many years to discover these! I love the 5,6, and 8 and am going to get a peeler and sandoku too! It really does NOT cause any browning so cut lettuce lasts twice as long! I absolutely love these knives!!!

I was hoping for a very thin blade, but it isn't the thinnest and its not the sharpest kitchen knife I've ever used. I try to use it as often as my subconscious will let me, but I seem to be always reaching for my stainless steel blades. But I must say it did a killer job on some tomatoes the other day.Item is just as decribed. I use this knif for cutting up veggies and fruit prior to juicing and so far is serving me well.
