Iittala Artik 5-Piece Place Setting, Service for 1

I fell for it's contemporary look and risked buying a 20-piece set witout seeing it outside. I was skeptical about my purchase until I received. I took this risk with the confidence that iittala makes very high quality products.

My trust on iittala brand turned out true. These are great piece of flatware which can't be matched by anything we see in most local department stores. We immediately returned the Villeroy and Boch New Wave Flatware set we got from Bloomingdales as it pales (in a very big way) in comparison to this. Frankly, these two shouldn't even be compared. That's how good the build quality is of this set. The stainless steel has some special kind of shine that makes it look very attractive and at the same time very unique. These pieces are very heavy and feel very good in hand.

We liked them so much that we are now looking into adding more of iittala brand items to our kitchen and home decor.

We checked out this pattern in a bricks-and-mortar store, and loved the look (classic yet with some original touches like the different length tines on the forks) and feel (beautiful balance, though on the heavy side). The only downside to the product is that it's difficult to get serving pieces in the US. I must, however, protest Amazon's way of shipping. Each place setting, which occupied a box about 2"X2"X10", was put in a second box that was about 7"X10"X12"; that box was then put into yet another box that was about 10"X12"X18", and all 8 place settings were sent separately. What a waste of packing materials!!!!

This flatware is simply gorgeous, unique, and worth every penny of the cost. They are lovely and heavy, the highest quality.

However, I have to let you know that they come with an iitala sticker on each and every piece that must be removed--after this the sticky residue that remains cannot be easily removed. I don't have a dishwasher, so I couldn't try that, which would have been my first choice. Instead I had to use Goo-Gone over and over again on each piece and scrub. It took me about a half hour or so to completely remove everything from all five pieces. I was glad I had only purchased one place setting.

Other than that, I think anyone would be extremely satisfied with this delightful set of flatware!

Recommended, except for the labeling.

I am very impressed with the quality of this place setting. I was looking for something well made and a simple classic design. Also I am glad to see that it is not made in China.

Everything was just as described, with one exception. The item description indicated this set was made in France. Indeed, it said as much, right there on the box when it arrived. Maybe it's the packaging that was made in france, because each individual piece of silverware had a sticker on it indicating China as the country of origin.
