This is an excellent cheese slicer! Just found one at a restaurant; had been looking for a replacement for my Swedish slicer without luck. Next time I will purchase from amazon.com as the price is the same I paid at the restaurant, which is not a convenient distance. My Swedish one was erroneously put in the dishwasher and now the handle is split (and ducktaped) so will definitely be more careful with the new one: handwashing only.I purchased this as a replacement for a VERY OLD cheese slicer from Hickory Farms. Cheese slicing is a serious business in our household, and I have looked for years to find a replacement anywhere near the quality in construction and performance. This has come the closest! It is almost identical! Great purchase!Buy BOSKA Holland Taste Cheese Slicer - Rosewood Now
I bought this cheese slicer to replace one that I bought from Williams Sonoma over 20 years ago. I always washed that one in the dishwasher, and finally the handle split. This one is attractive, and works well on cheddar as well as softer cheeses (within the limits of this type of cheese slicer). I'm delighted with it I'm thinking of getting one in stainless as well, since based on the other review I'm a little afraid to put this one in the dishwasher. (Also, even though my old one held up for a long time, dishwashers don't exactly enhance the look of finished wooden handles!)Read Best Reviews of BOSKA Holland Taste Cheese Slicer - Rosewood Here
I work in people's home, I've seen slicer's like these and I always wanted one. Unfortunately, I didn't notice that the opening is rather large. I would prefer a smaller opening, for thiner slices of cheese. Otherwise it works great,Want BOSKA Holland Taste Cheese Slicer - Rosewood Discount?
This slicer does not work well with harder cheeses like a 12 month+ cheddar. It causes the cheese to flake and crumble. In a storage box, I found an older slicer by Bjorklund that cleanly sliced the same blocks of cheese that this slicer stumbled with. This slicer appears to be similar to the bjorklund I found: Cheese Slicer by Bjorklund. I think the difference is that the Boska slicer has a more pronounced lip at the cutting edge. The Boska is aesthetically pleasing and works for softer cheeses like Swiss, but get a better one at this price or go cheaper.
In general, cheese planes are nice to have. It's more satisfying to consume 6 thin slices of cheese than 2 thick slices. Additionally, the thinness allows cheese to warm up faster which strongly enhances the eating experience. Similarly, it also melts faster this way.
