Buy BergHOFF 4-Piece Toddler Smiley Flatware Set Now
I love the design, but the colors of the faces don't last long. So if you are buying for the colorful scheme, you won't be happy for long!Read Best Reviews of BergHOFF 4-Piece Toddler Smiley Flatware Set Here
So, I started getting really tired of looking at the mangled plastic flatware my toddler son has been using since he began eating solid foods, so I decided to find him a nice set of stainless steel flatware. Right when I saw the BergHOFF Smiley flatware set, I knew these were it. When they arrived in their nice gift-able box, I was happy to see that they were just as cute in the picture. The faces are painted so that they are actually slightly raised, kind of like puff paint, except solid. They're a nice and hefty shiny 18/10 stainless steel, so these aren't lightweight utensils. As for the size, the larger spoon and fork are pretty big; these aren't for infants. In fact, an adult could probably use them. However, the shape somehow makes it easier for my almost 3-year old to transport food from plate to mouth without too much spillage. Now, the only problem I have is that BergHOFF doesn't recommend dishwashing these, and with a toddler, I'm not trying to do any hand washing. I'll see how they hold up in the dishwasher and report back later with an update. I also have not found ANY information anywhere on the packaging or on the web on the country of manufacture, which is a little sketchy. The box says that they're designed in Belgium, but it doesn't state where they are made.
Otherwise, my son is so delighted to have his own flatware, that I got no resistance at dinnertime. Not only is he enjoying having his special fork and spoon, he also likes to point out the color of each smiley face. I'll likely purchase a second set after I see how they hold up in the dishwasher.
UPDATE: So, I ran the flatware through the dishwasher a few times. After about the third washing, some of the enamel paint fell off. OK, I know that dishwashing isn't recommended for these, but I expect that anything meant for kids should be durable and dishwasher safe. Well, even without the paint, the imprint of the happy faces are still there and still cute. Just not as cute. I'm a bit disappointed, but I'm thinking that I'll still order a 2nd set--and handwash them. *sigh* Sorry, I had to take off a star.My son and I LOVE this silverware set. He uses more the small spoon for the everyday eating (he's 19 months old) because the big spoon may still be too big for him. The fork is pointy and big but still he manages to use it. They're heavy enough for a kid his age and the knife is not dangerous at all. Overall I'm very happy with this product!
