Ok, I am so impressed with Wusthof quality, I am shocked.To start with, I'm no great chef or anything, but I do enjoy being in a kitchen and cooking for our family. Also, as a bit of background My wife and I recevied a set of Chicago Cutlery for our wedding more than 30 years ago. I felt we had one heck of a good set of knives. Recently though Wusthof knives caught my eye. As I began to research and learn about them, I started to feel they might be a good choice. In my researching the various styles, I became very interested in the IKON knives with Black Wood handles. As I compared price, I just couldn't see spending the difference between them and the plastic handle version. After receiving Class IKon with plastic handles, I'm totally happy with not splurging.
When the knives arrived, I had to compare them to the Chicago set. One quick slice on a piece of paper blew me away. I couldn't believe a knife could cut so effortlessly. I still can't belive I have used the other knives so long thinking there wasn't anything better.
During my shopping I read several comments by professionals suggesting to not purchase a pre-packaged set. As I started looking at individual knives I found it difficult to get 6 steak knives. This set had the steak knives and as I looked at individual knives, I felt the set had what we needed. I did add the Hollow edge Santoku knife to our set. The block has two extra slots and accomodated it just fine. Another concern I had was going from a 10 inch chef's knife to an 8 inch, I'm very happy with the shorter knife. It seems to be easier to control and use.
In all, I am extremely happy to have come out of the stone age and into a new sharper era. :-)

When I got this, I got rid of my old knives. They were ancient, professional, high carbon steel knives that I had to keep oiled, so they didn't rust. A bit of a hassle, but they kept an edge like no other. Still, the other half wasn't happy with them, and I wasn't happy when the SO forgot to take them out of the sink and it left a rust stain on both the sink and the knife.These knives are every bit as good as my old set. They easily accept an edge that will slice through anything, and they keep it for quite a bit of use. I also bought an extra kit of 4 more steak knives (we often have many people over for grilled steaks). I love this knife set, and wish I'd had it earlier. It would have saved me a couple of arguments. Most of my meals are home cooked, these get used every day, and they look as good today as they did when I bought them, over 4 years ago.
I didn't use the little sharpener that came with the set, I have a larger electric diamond sharpener that I prefer to use. The little one went to my sister, and she loves it. She says it does a great job on her knives.

Part of the advertised set was to include a 5" Sudoku knife, it didn't and another knife was sent in it's place!The knife block was also cracked! I called customer service at Amazon and rather than send the correct knife and replace the block they suggested that I send back the entire order. When I asked if they could guarentee that the replacement set would include the knife that is advertised, they responded no! The quality of knives is not in question and rather than send back the entire set, I purchased the 5" Sudoku knife at a local store and kept the block instead of waiting to see if the replacement order was correct. In hindsight I could have purchased the same set at the same price and paid the state tax for the same amount of money. Again, the product was not in question however I ordered this product from "Witbeck's" through Amazon. Won't make this mistake again!Save 38% Off
