Ontario Knife Company 8325 SP6 Spec Plus Fighting Knife

This is not a high dollar show knife. It is a fighting knife subject to abuse, misuse, and neglect during long stints in the field. As such it fulfills it's intended purpose beautifully. Keep it sharp and wipe the edge with the same oil you use on your battle rifle and it should serve you well. IMHO it's one of the best knives available, especially for the price. I intend to buy more, just as a back-up.

Very pleased with this knife. Exceeded my expectations. I realized that the blade was 8" long when I ordered it but dang, this is a man's knife. Damn strong steel, great comfortable handle. The sheath is a bit to be desired but it does the job. It is true, its not that sharp out of the box but its got a good start, I also like how the top of the blade is sharpened about 3.5" Made in US too! I see no flaw in this knife!

I believe this knife is misnamed, it should be called the SP-6 All-Purpose Survival tool. Although I have no doubt of it's excellence as a fighting knife, the primary purpose for my purchase was to trim down my kit-bag to as few survival essentials as possible. Within that frame, it shines like a diamond, I can chop wood and form the chopped wood into any tool or survival implement I can imagine -digging stick, adz, maul, shovel, spear, fire starter. I was concerned that I would wind up carrying a combination of tools, such as the Cold Steel Bushman and one of their very able tomahawks, thus increasing weight, but this knife is so versatile and (so far)unbreakable and darn near impossible to mar or scratch I wont have to. The SP-6 came very sharp out of the box, indeed the top "Bowie edge" was well sharpened too. the handle fits my hands well and has good tack and shock-absorbancy as well a comfortable and easy to control cross-section. To me, the balance is excellent and the weight and thickness are superb. I must admit, I am a blade collector and unfortunately my entire collection was stolen about 2 years ago, I have been replacing what I can with Cold Steel knives ONLY ... don't know why Cold Steel exactly, since my collection was diverse they just kept coming up with the knife I needed at the price I could afford and quality that is second to none, and this is one of only TWO non Cold Steel blades I've purchased since the theft (the other is a SOG Tomahawk) and I don't see how I could be any happier with any purchase. Now, this doesn't mean I'm going to stop buying CS, but I am going to give good hard looks at non CS knives in the future -especially if made by Ontario or Ka-Bar.

Shipping/handling was great and fast. Best price around for this knife. I liked this one more than the larger bowie and the smaller marine knife both by Ontario. If you are looking for a larger sized, full tang, heavy duty knife, this is it. I don't see any reason to spend more money. The sheath is fine. I would prefer kydex but the sheath that comes with it is more than adequate.

I'm pleased with this knife, it was made in the USA, the quality is very good, the only reason for 4 stars instead of 5 was the scabbard. It's not that it was poor quality, I just personally didn't like the design. Otherwise, it's a 5 star knife!
