Perhaps the first reviewer had a defective knife because I can only give this inexpensive little knife the very highest recommendation. Initially, I had purchased a very (in my opinion) expensive electric knife ($65) which lasted all of, what? Two months? Yup, two months. Since I couldn't really afford to drop that kind of cash so soon again on an electric knife I got the Black & Decker EK700, not expecting it to last for very long because on average I bake at least a dozen loaves of bread a week, half of which are heavy wheat or rye breads.

As of today, February 28, 2008, I'm editing this review to make this comment: I used this knife for about a year before I posted my original review and it is STILL WORKING! Honestly, how can you beat that? I am really amazed at how sturdy it is. With the use I put it through I would have expected it to last no more than six months. But after all this time, with steady, hard use, it's running almost as well as the day I bought it. Great knife, unbelievably sturdy, easy to clean -frankly, I can't think of anything bad to say about it. Highly recommended.

I have always used electric knives to slice all the roasts which I cook, including, beef, pork, chicken and turkey. I have gotten tired of using knives and becoming dull, tearing the meat, and not working for more than 3 months. I bought this knife on the advise of the American Test Kitchens stating that this knife was one of the best. They are right. This is the best knife that I have used. I carved the Thanksgiving Day Turkey with it and it sliced that turkey like butter. No tearing or fighting with the blades to cut the meat. It fits in my hand like a glove, easy to run. I also like the safety switch on the on button. Push the slide button to the left,then press the on switch and it stays on until you release the on switch, when you are all done with the slicing, you press the slide button to the right and it locks the unit so it cannot be turn on. Blades go into the unit easily. Best little unit I have ever used. I would highly recommend this unit to anyone who uses an electric knife.

Arthritic hands make for difficult handling of tools. My former electric carving knife works just fine for spouse and grown children, but I was unable to keep it running long enough to make a cut. This implement allows me to depress and keep depressed the cutting trigger. I've carved some fairly tough meats and some very tender cuts. The knife has worked equally well for both. I haven't yet tried it on anything frozen. The blades are easy to attach and detach. They clean easily with a soapy sponge, and have survived the dishwasher well, too.

If I have any complaints, it would be that the knife is rather heavy and my hands tire easily when using it; being tied to a cord restricts its use to the preparation area, rather than the table; and (although I thoroughly understand the reason for it) having to hold down the trigger continuously is tiring. That third reason has no validity . . . if the knife is dropped, it doesn't need to keep cutting anything it comes in touch with!

All in all, this is a very satisfactory tool, especially for persons with problem hands.

Great product at a resonable price. This knife is comfortable in your hand, (left or right.) It cuts smoothly without applying undue preasure. The offset blade allows cutting through to bottom of bread or meat without racking your knuckles or repositioning your grip. I keep an electric knife plugged in on my counter for all kinds of cutting. If this one ever wears out, I'll be buying another just like it.

I have had several electric knives over the years but this is the worst. It has a small gap between the blades and this allows the meat that you are cutting get between the blades rendering it useless. I have only used it on roast chicken/turkey so I cannot comment on how it is with bread. Others seem to have no problem cutting bread. But if you want to use it on poultry, buy something else.

Kiwi 8" Chef Knife

Good starter knives. Very sharp. Be sure not to put in the dishwasher or leave in water as the handles are not durable. I keep my handle oiled. The blade is thin but cuts beautifully. I have not had to sharpen it yet.

The Kiwi & Kom Kom brand knives from Thailand have become so popular worldwide that they are now being copied in China and are very hard to discern from the original Kiwi brand. This is part of the reason that this Bangkok based knife company has come out with another line of higher quality knives their newer Kom Kom brand. The Kom Kom knives are of higher standard and quality and are not readily available in retail stores outside of Thailand. Temple of Thai, USA imports these knives directly from the Kiwi and Kom Kom Company to America.

There are 2 levels of this particular model of knife, the #21 the Kom Kom brand, which is more expensive and of better quality and also the original Kiwi brand (the one being sold here) which is cheaper and also a good inexpensive, everyday knife. When compared side-by-side the quality of the both the wood and metal used is higher in the Kom Kom brand. The tang runs down about 80% of the handle in the Kom Kom model, compared to half tang with the Kiwi. There are 3 rivets in the Kom Kom handle compared to just 2 in the Kiwi brand #21. The Kom Kom brand is slightly heavier then the Kiwi. And the blade is stamped Kom Kom (as opposed to just simply Kiwi). Compare to 8" Thai Chefs Knife, #21 (Kom Kom).

As per the Kiwi & Kom Kom company these are differences in the 2 brands which they manufacture:

Kiwi

· Cheaper than the Kom-Kom brand knives

· Kiwi passes through fewer production processes compared to the Kom-Kom brand

· For those who like to sharpen their knife frequently, they may prefer the Kiwi brand

Kom Kom

· More expensive then the Kiwi brand knives

· It passes through more processes of production compared to the Kom-Kom brand

· It stays sharp longer if kept in a good condition, so the user does not need to sharpen frequently

In addition, the Kom Kom brand knives are packaged in a retail blister packages.

I was introduced to these knives by a roommate in college. They are amazing, and I recommend them to anyone and everyone who likes to cook. Seriously though, don't bother buying them online when you can go to your local Asian market and get them for $3.50 (really). I took a friend to the local market down the street today and he bought three varieties of the larger knives, and three of the smaller (paring) knives all for under $15. I came back and decided to see if they sell them online,... only to be dumbfounded by the price.

For the price this knife can't be beat. After three months of daily household use it still is holding an edge and has never been sharpened. It's cheaply made, very light and the handle is essentially a block of wood, but it cuts better than most every knife I've had and definitely stays sharper. I wish they made an upgraded version same blade, better handle.

It's cheap, yet sturdy and SHARP.

This is my "go to" knife when cooking at home. I also own Wusthof blades (& Cold Steel, & Randall, & Al Mar, & Ecos, & Tramontina, & .....), yet I find myself grabbing this knife from our magnetic knife rack when prepping food.

The thinness of the blade helps it ZIP through anything you're slicing, whether it be veggies, meat, or bread. It is NOT intended for crunching through bones. Get a heavy cleaver if that's your intended use.

I like the wide blade's ability to function as a scoop. Chop your stuff, scoop it up on the wide blade, dump it in the cooking pot.

Kiwi blades are made from fairly soft steel, so do not hold their edge for a long time. That being said, get a cheapie Wusthof knife sharpener for 20 bucks or so. A few passes through that sharpener, and your Kiwi knife is as good as new.

This knife has a wood handle with brass rivets. If you (as I) dump your knives in the dishwasher, the rivets will eventually loosen. No big deal....put the handle on a flat, sturdy surface (like a wood board), and WHACK both sides of the rivet with a hammer. No more looseness.

I've used my Kiwi 8" chef knife for years and years. Despite use/abuse (dishwasher cleaning), the handle is still in great shape. Should the wood handle eventually chip/split, the knife is cheap enough where you don't won't feel too bad just pitching it & getting a new one.

No, it doesn't have the Wusthof/Henckels "name prestige". That being said, this knife is excellent in the kitchen, and I highly recommend it. Easy to use, easy to clean, easy to sharpen. All that, and dirt cheap.

Very expensive but, using non-serrated steak knives just doesn't cut it (ba dum tish).They cut well and have been holding up well but the finish will mar quite extensively even with light scrubbing from something like a Scott scouring sponge. I would buy again.

I bought this because I used to not eat breakfast. Now, it takes me 20 seconds to make a delicious morning smoothie for breakfast. I love that it came with 3 cups. I fill one of the cups with frozen fruit the night before. In the morning, I pour milk, plop in some yogurt, blend, and breakfast is made in 20 seconds. Motor works fine after 1 month. No issues at all.

Nice, clean design all the cups are clear plastic, although you could be thinking that at least one would be stainless. The units emits a an 'electrical motor' smell that may disappear over the next months. Noise level is acceptable but at the louder end of the expected spectrum.

For now I am a little suspicious that the shakes turn out a little less foamy, but I have to try that with different protein powders to be sure.

This blender is awesome! I received this as a gift. I didn't tell anyone and I received a Magic Bullet for Christmas that year as well. Side by side, this things BURIES the MB. Its motor is strong and never gives up on me. I blend shakes EVERY DAY, several times a day. I use ICE, usually about 3 5 cubes for each shake because I like it cold and sometimes frozen fruit as well. I also add Kale to my shakes now and still no problems. The kale pulverizes and the fruit and ice cubes all blend down into a nice smoothie consistency. Sometimes the ice cubes will stick together and make the blades stick too, not able to get a start up but, you just tap a little and off it goes.

I'm telling you, you will love this blender. The only draw back I can think of is, it's a pain to clean the cups because the bars inside the cup hurt my hands but other than that I love it. It's strong and blends all my stuff really fast and efficiently. The MB takes forever (like 3 4X's longer to blend than this one), doesn't give that nice smooth consistency I like, and if I use Ice, it leaves little "ice balls" even after a long time blending and doesn't just break them down all the way. It feels like its going to break and also feels cheap. I gave it to my husband for his "little shakes" (no ice or fruit or anything hard to blend) and it works for him, but if you are like me and really want something to tear up and abuse and use all the time, try this product. Its wonderful! If mine ever does break, i will run right here to Amazon and buy another one! I won't go get anything else. I love it that much.

My Mom bought one of these for my brother about 5 years ago. I now use the same one on a regular basis and am really impressed with the power of the motor and the simplicity. This bag is amazing. It holds much more than you would expect because the fabric stretches as needed to fit bulky and odd shaped containers. I usually fit two Smart Ones frozen entrees lying flat on the bottom, then there is room for other items, yogurt cup, fruit, chips, soda, etc on top. If you put the entrees standing up, you have room to fit a taller item to the side, plus more room horizontally in front of the entrees. The size is deceiving at first, but play with it and you will be surprised how much you can fit inside. I have packed LARGE round Tupperware/Rubbermaid containers, etc and they fit! The insulation factor is just for a few hours, so it's perfect to take lunch to work. But not longer than that unless you add a frozen block. I also really like the long detachable and adjustable length shoulder strap. Finally, if anything leeks, clean up is super easy. Just turn inside out and run under warm water, add liquid soap if needed, rinse and air dry. It dries fast and good as new.

I'm so happy that I chose this cute, colorful lunch bag. I wanted something lightweight, with a cross-body strap, that would easily hold my lunch and keep it cold until noon. This bag meets all those requirements and more. The neoprene is very stretchy and allows me to stuff more containers into this bag than I would have thought possible. I'm able to fit a Laptop Lunch Bento Box, lying flat, along with a drink, snack, ice pack and utensils. The bag has a small pocket on the inside that might be meant for an ice pack, but I find that my food stays colder if I put the ice pack in the main compartment on top of my containers. The pocket is perfect for holding napkins and anything else that needs to be kept dry. The bag zips securely shut and easily keeps everything cold for five hours. When the bag is empty I can scrunch it up and stuff it in my laptop bag, and at home I can store it in a drawer. I've machine washed and air-dried it with no problems. It seems well-made so I expect it to last a long time.

A little pricey but worth the extra $. I love the size of the bag, the fact that the material stretches and that it is machine washable.
