Calphalon Katana Cutlery 7-Inch VG Slicer

Calphalon Katana Cutlery 7-Inch VG Slicerfor the price, this is simply the best knife i have ever purchased. i have been a professional chef for the past fifteen years and have used just about any high end knives on the market, and this knife keeps pace with the best of them. a hard core, a stainless damascus finish, and a comfortable grip, are some of the key features that earned my respect here. i also find the balance to be fair whether i hold the knife by the handle (for things like cutting greens) or by the blade (for things like more detailed work). the scalloped blade releases food easily and can be used with even softer cheeses than you might expect without running into the usual mashed soft cheese looking slices. i primarily use this knife at my work for things like slicing cheese and roasted meats, however i find that it is up to most tasks laid before it. every time i use a knife i give it one swipe on each side of the blade over a ceramic hone, and haven't needed to do anything else to maintain the edge.

as with any higher carbon steel, or damascus knives, you do have to take care of this one as you cook (this means that having a damp sanitizer towel standing by at your cutting board is a must, not wet or dry, but damp). before walking away from the cutting board just give the knife a quick wipe down and you are covered, no rust worries or spotting on the blade. based on the performance of the knife i would give it a five star rating, however, when i opened the box and removed the knife, there was a few small imperfections in the blade edge. easy to fix, but not what is expected of a new kitchen knife. i have owned many calphalon products over the years and this is the first such problem i have ever encountered. overall i have to say you will be hard pressed to find another knife in this price range that will perform as well and hold an edge as long as the calphalon katana series knives. i hope this is helpful to you and thanks for taking the time to read my review.

Nice, simple, no-nonsense sharp knife for someone who is not used to american style cutting. I like to slice straight, not to rock the knife, so this one is for me.

Handle is absolutely convenient something I was a bit worrying at first, but it just suits the knife with this style of cutting.

I am no pro by miles (just like to cook own simple food rather than go to McDonald's)

It was razor sharp the day arrived, but after 3 months it is just sharp. This is why only 4 stars.

9" Gourmet Medium Grit Replacement Rod

9' Gourmet Medium Grit Replacement RodI purchased this Lansky 9" Gourmet Medium Grit Replacement Rod to replace one from my KwikSharp sharpener that was accidently broken. The KwikSharp rod was 0.375" (3/8") in diameter. The Lansky rod is 0.307" in diameter, not quite 5/16". I will either have shim the new rod, or (more likely) drill a new hole in the KwikSharp base.

Keuken Ceramic 6 Inch Chef Knife

Keuken Ceramic 6 Inch Chef KnifeNote, I work for the company that makes these.

I purchased this knife becuase I wanted a high quality knife that was different from the many, many options out there. This has been great so far. Cuts perfectly for almost anything and is easy to clean. I just keep it out on the counter in the protective sleeve for easy access.

Arcos 2900 Range 10-Inch 250 mm Pastry Serrated Knife

Arcos 2900 Range 10-Inch Pastry Serrated Knife, YellowI originally bought this as a backup for a Wusthof bread knife, but like it so much that I have switched to using it as my main bread knife and keep the Wustof as my backup.

This knife has a heavy, sturdy blade and a nicely ergonomic handle. It is perfect for cutting the big loaves of bread I get out of my bread maker, or for slicing french bread. I am very happy with this knife and would recommend it to anyone.

Bakers & Chefs 8in Chef Shears - 2pk

Bakers & Chefs 8in Chef Shears - 2pkThe thing is, these shears can cut through chicken breast bone, or cut the thinnest paper, the grips are great and from a health standpoint, being able to break them down into two pieces to go into the dishwasher, they are great. I've ordered two extra pairs and now I'm giving them to friends as presents. I also cut thick bacon in halves with these shears so I can fit more into my pan and control my portion size.

Shun DM0710 Classic 6-Inch Boning Knife

Shun DM0710 Classic 6-Inch Boning KnifeI recently added this knife to my rather extensive collection of over 100 knives. I like the way this knife is balanced and the way that it fits the hand -there are right and left handed models. A boning knife is not the first knife to buy. After you have your basic assortment of knives this knife is a nice addition. If you are planning to bone a leg of lamb or a pork shoulder etc. this knife has no equal. It can be used to disjoint a chicken or a turkey as well. Shun knives are always razor sharp so expect an effortless experience as you use this knife.

I have discovered a small quirk with this knife. As is true with many 6 inch boning knives the weight of the blade is not sufficient to tip the knife blade down when placed on a cutting board or counter top so it stays flat and parallel to the work surface. Since the handle is rounded and very smooth the knife may spin away from position as you lay it down. In other words if you were not paying attention the blade could end up where the handle was and you could cut yourself. This is not really a problem as I just lay it on a kitchen towel if I am going to pick it up and set it down many times. Aside from this little quirk I would highly recommend this knife for a cook that would like to do their own boning.

Shun, makes great knives. Yes very expensive too. I recently bought the DM0710 from another vendor ..... for less than what Amazon charges. Just imagine the finest Samurai swords, then you'd catch my drift.

Nevertheless, this Damascus Japanese knife is super sharp.

Being a careful cook, I accidently poked myself with its tip.......my bad.

My point? This knife is so incredibly sharp, be very careful.

I should have known better.

Yes, I don't limit brands. I have a few Henckels, Wusthof, Sabatier, Dexter Asian vegetable slicers. Nothing beats the Shun. My kitchen knife collection consists of maybe 10 different blades.

If I had the money, I'd purchase their Classic 10" Chefs knife #DM0707L, left handed knife for a mere pittance $195 dollars. LOL

I've read the Shun Damascus edge is prone to chipping. IMO, must be ham handed individuals who brutalize what ever style Shun knives. Regarding specific purpose is BONING, period.

However, Shun guarantees their knives for life and will resharpen your, any model (pronounced "shoon"), once a year forever. Just save your receipts to verify.

Yeah, do you see German mfrs offering same?????

I don't think so.

Just my opinion.

This is my 4th or 5th Shun. Like all the others it is well balanced, sharp (of course), has a good sized handle for holding and maneuvering. Curvature and stiffness of the blade is excellent for boning jobs. Like all the other Shun knives it's a beauty.

I believe if you're serious about cooking, you should own great cookware and excellent knives. I finally stepped up and got excellent knives. For those who haven't heard the hype, Shun is one of the most respected knife brands in the world.

Great features of the entire line include these cool "D" shaped handles that fit your hand better. Each knife is made in a rightand left-handed version ( for lefties). The steel used for the blades is harder than what you would find in most other knives. The knives are EXTREMELY sharp.

If you're building your set and want to take care of the must-haves first. Move this down on your priority list. Get the chef's, paring and bread knives first. With that said, there is a place for this knife in your kitchen. As with all of my other Shun knives, this one is extremely sharp and it's relatively light.

This is an expensive, but lifetime investment. I encourage you to visit stores and feel the knives in your hand to make sure you are comfortable with them. For more info on Shun, check out Alton Brown's website. For ratings on various brands and types of knives, check out Cooks Illustrated's equipment ratings.

This is my first and I'm sure last boning knife. As with all Shun's, it is extremely sharp -a must for a good boning knife. I was surpised by the knife's weight. Although the blade is flexible, the knife feels heavy for it's size. This gives me (a true novice at deboning and filleting) more confidence.

The famous D-shaped handle makes the knife easier to grip than other boning knives, but it can slip when greasy.

Beautiful and insanely sharp. I am very happy with the purchase. I do wish Shun would package the knives more securely though. This isnt the first Shun I've received that had cut through its own carton and into the shipping box during transit.

YoshiBlade Knife, Ceramic

YoshiBlade Knife, CeramicI'll admit I was expecting miracles based on TV ads, the packaging, and reviews I saw online. All I can say is, you get what you pay for, and this is only a $19 knife.

My first clue that this wasn't the end-all came from the package insert. The list of what NOT to do with this knife is twice as long as what you can do. You can't cut with it against just any surface, so my glass cutting board was out. You can't twist or rock the blade for fancy chopping, and you can't press on the side of it (like when you smash/peel garlic) My Yoshi did not quite slice a tomato like butter, the way the TV ads show. The short blade also makes it impractical for larger potatoes, onions, etc.

That all said, once I got over the limitations I find I reach for it often to cut up smaller things like green onions, chili peppers, carrots, etc. It works just fine and is definitely not a bad little knife for the price. You just have to be careful with it, because the ceramic blade is fragile if mishandled.

I received the Yoshi Blade knife in June of this year, used it normally for vegetables and fruits, and then yesterday, September 23rd, 2010 it breaks inside the handle. I call customer service to explain that I have only had it for 2 1/2 months, and all I get for a response is "the knife is out of warranty." Is there anything else I can help you with today?

Are you for real? Defective product! Even more defective customer services (if you can call it that!)

My wife made the unfortunate mistake of buying another Yoshi Blade and the blade chipped in less than 2 weeks!!!!!

If there was a rating one could give allowing for MINUS STARS, I WOULD RATE THIS PIECE OF TRASH THAT WAY!

DON'T BUY THIS! YOU'RE WASTING YOUR MONEY!

For anyone reading this post who thinks it is somehow contrived, I can assure you it is NOT! Read the part about POOR customer service from Yoshi Blade, and you will know why I wrote the article to begin with. It's never just about a product that breaks. It IS about how the company handles it!

Buy YoshiBlade Knife, Ceramic Now

Maybe I was lucky but we love our Yoshi Blade. Honestly for $19 how could you go wrong. If you look at all of pro ceramic blades you see that they are significantly more than the Yoshi Blade. Think of this knife set as an intro to ceramic blades. I have never seen the infomercial nor the ad on TV. So when I got it it was mostly a curious tool to use in the kitchen. All I can say is that this blade is amazingly sharp. It slices tomatoes, citrus, bread, cucumbers and other veggies amazing.

I am a vegetarian so I have no experience with this cutting meat. It does slice through tofu very easy. The minus 1 star is sometimes it is very difficult to get the knife to start a cut. I believe it is mostly due to the design of the tip. If you have any skill in the kitchen with cutting foods you will easily figure out how to properly use this blade. Also, the peeler is more of a novelty and I have only used it with moderate success on carrots.

Always use a wooden or plastic cutting surface. Almost 100% of dulling of blades come from cutting on inappropriate surfaces such as granite, steel, mica; this is true for ALL blades not just ceramic. Check the web for videos showing this. Hand wash this blade, dishwashers will destroy it.

Pros:

+ VERY sharp when cutting mealy foods

+ Lightweight feels plastic but this is how a ceramic blade feels.

+ cleans easily (does not retain any smell from foods (even garlic))

+ price are you kidding me? A ceramic blade for under twenty bucks?

+ slicing and dicing is fantastic its like a razor

Cons:

Cheap cover ( you should use it to protect the blade in the drawer)

not too enthused with the peeler.

Tip needs redesigning

Not sure how you could sharpen it (although if you take care of the blade it should stay sharp a very long time)

Summary:

If you do not own a ceramic blade you should look at this as a fine intro to the class of kitchen utensils. I love mine so much I am buying a full set of pro models for our family for the holidays.

Thank you for reading my review.

This is one of the biggest rip-off's of the year. I have returned it because it arrived chipped and then using it once, it chipped while cutting a tomato! Yes, a nice soft tomato!!!! I asked for a refund not a replacement. Should know better than to order something that is touted on TV.

Want YoshiBlade Knife, Ceramic Discount?

I purchased the Yoshi Blade today at a local store and after opening package I went to cut into a lemon and it was like I was using the wrong side of the blade. I then had a few days old green bell pepper and again there was ZERO cutting. I actually thought I had the knife blade inverted but that was not the case.

I then took some $5 paring knives I got from Sams's and had sharpened with the Chef Choice XV and they sliced right through this older lemon and pepper. I tried other knives including a Henkels bread knife, WP Santoku, Chef's Knife and even an old "miracle blade" and they all were able to slice through the lemon and pepper easily.

I have not even tried the peeler as I have a Titan Peeler set that I am well pleased with.

Needless to say, my Yoshi is packed up ready to be returned to the store. I do not plan on exhanging it for another one.

Wusthof 3-Piece Build A Set

Wusthof 3-Piece Build A SetNeeded a steel and knife block after losing all my good knives and steel in a recent move. Can't beat the price with a stick. Didn't want anything fancy, just something to hold my new knives and this did the trick.

I use this to store my Victorinox rosewood knives. The block is nice and heavy. The shears aren't quite as sturdy feeling as I expected, but they're reasonably sharp. They also break apart which makes for easy cleaning. The honing steel feels pretty solid as well.

The Wusthof Build A Set comes with a hardwood knife block, honing rod, and kitchen shears. Like all Wusthof products, these are great quality. The shears come ready to use super sharp, and the block is accommodating for a wide variety of knives. The block is heavy and rather deep, so if you're looking for a space-saving block this is not it, but because of that depth it holds longer knives.

Zyliss Citrus/Kiwi Tool

Zyliss Citrus/Kiwi ToolWow, I have never had such an easy time peeling and slicing a kiwi. Great tool for that tricky little fruit, and it also worked well for slicing a banana while I was at it. I have tried using a spoon in the past, this is sooooooo much easier and neater.

For years, I have ignored two of my favorite fruits; kiwi fruit and oranges. But no longer as I have discovered the Zyliss Citrus/Kiwi Tool. I don't eat a lot of oranges because I don't like biting into the orange to start the peeling process. Nor do I like getting the rind and oils under my fingernails. With the Zyliss Citrus/Kiwi Tool all you have to do is score the orange vertically and horizontally with the fin and then use the scoop to remove the peel.

Now for Kiwi's they are notorious for being time consuming and difficult to peel. With this tool you simply cut the kiwi in half with the serrated edge and then use the curved end to scoop down between the fruit and peel. In a matter of seconds, your fruit is ready to eat.

This has become an indispensible tool in my kitchen. The Citrus/Kiwi Took is a well designed, quality tool at a reasonable price.

Buy Zyliss Citrus/Kiwi Tool Now

I bought this to peel oranges. It doesn't work for that. It may work better on kiwis, since one of the reviewers says it works great for that. But it works very poorly for oranges. There's no comfortable way to hold it, the cutter is thick and doesn't score the rind deeply enough, and the blade that's supposed to slide between the rind and the fruit is so thick that it tears the fruit up. I consider it a waste of drawer space. I would not buy this again. The best peelers I've found are the super cheap skinny ones that I use until the plastic breaks, and then buy another one. They fit in my hand well and the point is just right to score the peel to the right depth, and the other end neatly separates the peel from the fruit.

Got this just for kiwi. It works good but is a little longer than it needs to be just for kiwi, but considering it also peals oranges & such I might need to be that large.Once you get used to it it does really work well.

Want Zyliss Citrus/Kiwi Tool Discount?

I bought this tool primarily for oranges. I've tried many different peelers and found this to be far better than others. Now, with any tool it's important to take the time to explore its uses so that it can be used effectively. The design has many features on it, which means lots of choices for how it is used. It is 9 inches long and a bit under 1 inch wide. The dark green part is rubbery and a good place to hold on to. You can really get a good grip when using it because of its size, which I like much more than the cheap skinny peelers.

The only problem I have with it is the super sharp tooth used for peeling. It's so sharp that I nicked my thumb on it recently. This is not a tool for kids. On the other hand, the tooth is thick and made of durable plastic. It will easily outlast the cheap peelers. I just rinse it with soap to clean, there are no grooves or pours to trap food, and at the end of the week I toss it in the dishwasher. It costs more than other peelers, but you get what you pay for here; good design, quality materials, and a satisfying addition to your kitchen.

Mac Knife Ceramic Honing Rod, Black

Mac Knife Ceramic Honing Rod, 10-1/2-Inch, BlackI've used many honing rods over the years, and this is by far the best. A honing rod has to be harder than than the knife it's honing or it won't work. Most steel rods are around Rockwell 60, and are thus ineffective on some Japanese knives that can be as hard as 62. This ceramic hone measures Rockwell 81 in hardness, so it has no trouble refining the edge of the hardest steel knife. This won't make a dull knife sharp, but it will make a sharp knife sing.

If you have any of the MAC knifes you should have this honing rod! For the price you can not beat it!!

Want Mac Knife Ceramic Honing Rod, Black Discount?

This is a very nice honing rod I bought for honing my Mac 8" chefs knife. One minor complaint is that if using it free hand the knife blade can get hung up on the rubber tip. Thus the reason for 4 stars. I think I would prefer it without the rubber tip. The rubber tip is for anchoring the honing rod in a vertical position on a cutting board.

Shun Edo 10 Slot Bamboo Block

Shun Edo 10 Slot Bamboo BlockThis is the best block I have found for my Shun Ken Onion knives. The design of the block shows off the curves of the Onions beautifully. Another reviewer noted that you could put the knives in the block with the edges out. You will not do this. The handles become cramped and it won't look or feel right. The knives will wobble rather than feeling secure in the block.

Having said this, there are a few things I would like to see in the next iteration. (1) It needs slots for the fork and the cleaver or at least the fork. (2) The scissors slot is too small for the Shun scissors to fit correctly the Wusthof scissors fit perfectly, but they are no-where near as good as the Shuns. (3) The block needs to be about one inch taller my 10" chef's top rests on the counter. Because of the design of the block and the Ken Onion knife is held securely in place and has not damaged my counter top in the least.

Despite the nit picking, this is still far and away the best block for your Ken Onion knives. 5 stars Highly recommended just as the Ken Onion knives themselves are.

I bought this block because my currrent knife block did not fit the Ken Onion knives. The block is very nice, and seems solid. We've had it for about 6 months now, and it looks the same as the day it arrived. Now I only need more of the Ken Onion knives to fill it up more!

Wusthof Gourmet 6-1/2-Inch Offset Slotted Spatula

Wusthof Gourmet 6-1/2-Inch Offset Slotted SpatulaWhile this spatula is shaped and traditionally used to turn fish filets, I've found it to be a good general purpose spatula including for folding omelets. The metal has just the right balance of flex but yet is stiff enough to hold up to heavy meats without bending. The angled and wide shape of the tip plus the length of the spatula all works to make this a better metal spatula than many of the other spatulas I own including the Rosle 12.6" Perforated Angled Spatula.

So far I've used it for cooking omelets, chicken breasts, scallops, and even salmon fillets and this spatula handled every task well with no problems.

PROS:

About the right balance and feel in one's hands making it comfortable to use.

The angled and thin metal blade has the right amount of stiffness and flex to get underneath whatever food you need to turn. The wider tip provides more area for supporting your food item.

CONS:

The plastic handle is not heat resistant (will melt slightly if left on a hot pan).

The spatula does not have a full tang which could add slightly better balance and justify the cost.

Yeah, it is expensive. But I got mine when the Amazon price was about what Cooks Illustrated listed as the cost.

It is designed for a right-handed cook because of the angle of the blade makes it awkward for left-handed cooks. So if you are left handed you may want to consider the Rosle spatula Rosle 12.6" Perforated Angled Spatula.

We bought this based upon Cooks Illustrated's recommendation as the best fish spatula, and were not disappointed. It is wonderfully thin yet sturdy, and has a sharp leading edge for getting under fish, cookies, whatever. A great addition worth the space in the gadgets drawer. Be aware, though, that the sharpness makes it inappropriate for use with non-stick pans, which it will scratch.

Buy Wusthof Gourmet 6-1/2-Inch Offset Slotted Spatula Now

I originally purchased this slotted spatula as a "fish spatula", but it has worked well as a general purpose spatula (except for non-stick surfaces). My only small gripe is that the black surface on the handle is a plastic with a relatively low melting point I leaned it against a hot pan and it melted slightly after a few minutes.

I have used this spatula for pancakes, toast, and omelets. It has served me well in all three scenarios. The handle is not heatproof, and for the price, it really should be, thus the four stars.

I just received this item. But if you are used to the quality of Wusthof knives be prepared for a let down. This is the Gourmet line not the Classic.

Metal portion is a metal stamping with only the front/back surfaces polished. The outside edges and the edges in the slots are still rough. A good place for bacteria to grow.

However, I suspect it will work well.

I bought this knife in January, 2011, right after watching a "How It's Made" segment on TV in which Dexter was featured in one of the episodes. I was so impressed I immediately went surfing for a Dexter kitchen knife as I was sick to death of the knife I had been using. I was tickled to death to find this knife at Amazon and even MORE tickled when it arrived and I could use it. The blade is thin but tough as nails and SHARP doesn't begin to describe the edge on it! I stopped using my "slap chopper" because I can do the job with this knife better, nearly as quickly and have only a single blade to rinse off. I don't think you can buy a BETTER knife for any amount of money!

Buy Dexter-Russell 12" Cook's Knife Now

This really is an excellent bargain. I keep a bbq tool kit in the back of the car when I travel and this is just what you need: Excellent, service-grade functionality in an economical package. Its not a knife for people who want an expensive-looking but mediocre knife on display in the kitchen block. Full-tang, riveted handles, blade that you can easily put a razors edge to with a ceramic stick sharpener. Holds that edge well. It gives 90% of the functionality that you would get from a layered VG-10 faux damascus premium kitchen knife at 25% of the price. Plus I double-dare you to find one of those at any price in this size, which is best suited to large cookouts with piles of roasts that need slicing.

July 2012: Hauled out this knife and used it to slice up about a dozen tri-tip roasts at a barbecue... Held its edge very well with no sharpening necessary during the job (thats unusual), and best of all I can't remember a time when I felt so little fatigue from slicing one roast after another after another. No fancy ergonomic handles required. Just a big blade and basic functional handle. Still very pleased with this purchase.

So for the man who wrote that he thought the knives were not any good, you are wrong, these are the best knives I have ever owned and have continued to be reliable for 15 years. If you are new to cutco, try a double D edge knife first (it looks like it is serrated) you will be amazed with how great it works! Hooray for cutco!

I have the Cutco Galley+6 set with a few extras like the kitchen shears and a Santoku knife. I really like these knives. The handles are what sold me though. I have the start of RA in my hands and I can't grip small things for an extended length of time. The handles on the Cutco knives are finger grooved so that I don't have to grip the knives as firmly to cut and slice. I use the Cutco's daily and have no issues with hand fatigue or aching. I used to have my wife finish slicing a brisket or roast or slicing lots of veggies when I was using my Henkel Pro S knives. Not because they weren't sharp or great knives but because the handles were hard for my hands to grip for any length of time.

Cutco makes quality knives. They may not be as glamorous as Shun, Global, Wusthof or Messerwhatever but for a discerning cook like me they work great everyday. I know several professional cooks that like my knives but would never use them professionally because they have to impress the "chef" of the restraunt by owning something "not American". Seems nothing quality comes from America anymore to some people. Kinda sad if you ask me to be judged by the name on your knife and not it's ability.

Oh well, such is life as they say.

BTW: I am not in any way associated with Cutco other than owning a great knife set made by them.

I have a variety of knives which I got pretty cheap while I was in the business of selling the Cutco knives. They are a bit expensive, but they have a lifetime guarantee. Any problem you have with it, whether you burned the handle, ran over it with your car, or simply dulled it, they will fix it for you free of charge maybe even replace it for you if the damage is bad enough. So it's definitely worth the high price in the long-run! And the knives are the best I've found for easing slicing and dicing.

The things I don't like about it -

I find the table knife handles to be cheezy and cheap-feeling even though they're not not the best presentation for formal affairs.

The blades all tend to stain easily not rust, just stain. You must keep up with polishing them.

I HATE the Cutco shears (scissors). They can cut through about everything, but they are big and thick and hurt your hands to cut anything. The handles are very stiff to squeeze. If you're a woman like I am, you WILL get frustrated with that.

We agreed to a presentation because it was from the son of our very close friend with whom we have an excellent relationship and really trust, so agreed to it.

We were explicitly told that we won't have to buy and the demo is just to help the presenter with his college stuff since he would get paid for the presentation. I am fairly handy myself and do a lot of stuff around the house and our vehicles so was curious to find out.

The presentation started ok but soon turned to one of those TV infomercials (remember RONCO) as we were tried to be WOWED with the demo of the cutco knife cutting through rope and leather and the scissor cutting a penny.

I assumed that the knives would be expensive so when I asked as to why someone would use a Top$ knife to be put to such abuse, the guy had no answer except if you have to do it in an emergency. I immediately picked up a serrated knife from my block and it cut through rope to which we were told that the cut was not as smooth as the Cutco knife.

I have a bunch of tools (Blade Knives, machete, sheet-metal snips etc) which are more than capable of doing that stuff over and over again with less fatigue and stress. Anyways we played on but then the hustling started.

First we were pitched the largest set for almost 2K and then the set size was gradually reduced to include different combos of knives at different price points (still in hundreds). We kept refusing everything mainly because we already have two blocks of knives in the kitchen, one purchased from Sears almost 6 years ago and the other one from Macy's a couple of years ago. Both of them work just fine and we really didn't have a need for any more knives. Even after showing those sets the hustling continued and eventually we were offered to pick up any two or three favorite knives for a special one time price, available through that salesrep only, good only until he left. With more than two hours into this nonsense, we picked up three for a meager $200 + taxes and shipping and for our support were magnanimously offered a free vegetable peeler.

Now came the worst part. After the presentation we were again hustled into giving names of 20 family and friends anywhere in the US and were told that they would only have to consent to a demo. No kidding, just like we were promised. We declined and politely asked the dude to leave as we realized that this is just another Pyramid scheme (does AMWAY ring a bell) where they exploit your trust in your friends/family/peers/acquaintances. The guy wouldn't take no for an answer until we parted with a couple.

After he left (more that 2.5 hours later) I decided to check the Cutco website. While we were told that the knives will be replaced for just the cost of two-way shipping even if broke them due to misuse/abuse, here is what is listed on their website.

FOREVER REPLACEMENT SERVICE AGREEMENT FOR MISUSE OR ABUSE

Should you damage your CUTCO through misuse or abuse, we will replace the item for "ONE HALF of the CURRENT RETAIL PRICE" plus shipping/handling and tax.

Send the product with an explanatory note to the CUTCO address below.

Basically they can charge you whatever they want based on their own assessment and their price at that point in time. This is just like RONCO who makes more money is returns/exchanges per/piece as opposed to direct sales.

We got the knives and started using them but found out they weren't any better or worse than the existing ones we already have. We use a mix of serrated and plain knives for everything that you may need in a regular kitchen and these Cutco ones aren't that exceptional. Of course we didn't try these to cut any ropes or pennies or any sheet metal with these.

We returned them under their 15 day return period (UPS confirmed delivery) and are now awaiting the refund since the payment was accepted by a check only.

Another piece of info that we came to know is that though Cutco charges you TOP $ for these knives, yet they won't sell it to commercial chefs with their warranty and all.

If these knives are so phenomenal and last forever, then why not. In the hand of a trained chef, they won't be misused since those folks depend on these for their livelihood and are likely to pay far more attention to cleaning and storing them as compared to us, regular home users.

I love these knives ... and I was so excited to see a History Channel show with my son about "The Worlds Sharpest Cutting Tools" (or something like that can't remember the exact title) where they showcased Cutco knives as among the sharpest in the world! They went into depth about the manufacturing process and the blade design and it was pretty interesting! They put them up there with Samurai swords. Cool.

The scissors are perhaps my favorite thing. I couldn't believe it when I saw that they could cut through pennies! And they are great as garden shears too! And I love how they come apart easily for cleaning. Nice.

Tools of the Trade Fine Edge Stainless Steel 15-Piece Cutlery Set

Tools of the Trade Fine Edge Stainless Steel 15-Piece Cutlery SetIf you are looking for a set of knives that looks contemporary and good in your kitchen (perhaps to match your stainless steel appliances) and are not intend to use them, these knives are for you. But if you want knives to be functional, look elsewhere.

This is my second set. The first set was a wedding gift and after 2 months of normal usage, it became very dull and the part where the handle and blade connect, started to rust. So we exchange them for a second set, same thing happened. Water just gets in the handles. I've found that out after I washed them for the first time and later found a puddle of water around the block. So, I wipe them dry after each wash and still, rust started to appear. These knives are very easy to bent out of shape; couple of the steak knives' serrated edges went different ways after a few dinners. The tip of the long slicer broke off.

Save your time and frustrations, DO NOT buy these knives.

I do not know what knives the negative person had but it wasn't these. I have used these for over 3 years and they are wonderful and in the same condition as new! I highly recommend them!! I put them in the dish washer and that hasn't seemed to dull them at all. I would buy them again!!

We have owned these knives for over 7 years now, they are used a lot and they are as great as the day we purchased them. My husband told me to search for an all steel set of knives so that they would hold up, the handles would never break off and they would be easily sharpened. These knives had his recommendations and they have been well worth their purchase price, and then some. We do sharpen the largest one weekly, it is the one we use all the time. We both highly recomment these knives.

I've owned these knives for 2 and half years now. The rubber part that keeps the blades in place on the Steak knives only is starting to rot away on a couple of them, but that's probably from using them ALOT and using the dishwasher. I'm actually back on here because I'm considering purchasing a replacement set. Shoot, at $35, I can buy an entire new set and replace any of the existing knives if they break. The two big slicers cut very well as do the two smaller paring knives. They look like you spent more than $35, and I'm not sure you can beat the value at this price point. I highly recommend them.

I recieved these knives for Christmas and I already love them! They look cool in my stainless steel kitchen but more importantly, they cut like a dream! They are a really good value for the money. Love them!

Zwilling J.A. Henckels Twin Four Star II 6-Inch Utility/Sandwich Knife

Zwilling J.A. Henckels Twin Four Star II 6-Inch Utility/Sandwich KnifeThere are a lot of new 'High Tech' kitchen knives out that sell for $hundreds$. Even Henckels offers a variation on this theme. But for my wife's money, (the chef in the family), why mess with a good thing. We've had Henkels Twin Four Star knives for probably 20 years and to her they just feel right, hold and edge, and are effortlessly sharpened. So why did I buy her a Twin Star II instead of the older Twin Star? I liked the SS end cap.

Upon inspection, the blade has been reshaped a little to be a bit broader toward the tip but otherwise it's a wonderful SLICING knife. It's the one knife she goes to more than any other; kind of a cross between a paring knife and a chef's knife, (so expect some fexability in the blade). The only thing I'd improve on is the length. 6" can be a bit short for some applications. So guess what I did, I bought her an 8" Twin Four Star II as well. Turns out she loves this one just as much :)

It is one of the best mass-production knife. Sharp, stays sharp, and feels good in the hand. I use this one almost as often as my Santoku knife. These are the two knives that one would need in the kitchen. Between them, they cover 90 percent of your cutting need.

Can't speak of the other line of knives Zwiller makes, but the Four Star ll series are the best kitchen knives I have ever owned. I recently purchased the 4" Paring knife, 6" Utility knife and the 8" Chef's knife.

This knife was to complete a 10 pcs. set of knives with a block for 11 pcs. The knife arrived first and my daughter asked it they were all coming one at a time! Expensive but finest quality. Very happy with the product.

Having used the original top of the lone Henckels Four Star series for years, I thought I`d try their new premium series. Have to say, while the debate will go one forever choosing between Wurstof and Henckel s cutlery, these are great knives. Be careful, they are (very) sharp and handle with extreme care.
