J.A. Henckels International Forged Synergy 8-Inch Carving Knife

J.A. Henckels International Forged Synergy 8-Inch Carving KnifeWhat a wonderful knife. Inexpensive, yet great quality! A very well built knife that holds a great edge. Will certainly buy more Forged Synergy knives.

All the J.A.Henckels knives are great, but shop around and buy by the set if you can its much cheaper. Amazon is about the best price but compare sets, it can be confusing as to what your getting for the money. I bought mine at a Kohl's store and the set wasn't complete so I had to add these individually. For example the 6 or 8 pieces set has a couple of additional slots in the block for knives not included, hence I had to buy these on line at additonal cost. Just be careful. Oh and these knives are heavy, don't drop or your toes may be in the way. LOL. We weren't used to quality and dropped a couple times, no harm but lucky toes and dogs were out of the way.

Yesterday I received this knife, even before September 1st owned Henckel Classic had my doubts about this knife, because they were manufactured in China, but it was very good my surprise, noting that this knife in design is much more attractive and Ergon my classic and in quality is almost the same, really recommend it, no matter the country where a product is manufactured, it is important that Henckel these are done with their high quality standards.

Hamilton Beach 74250 Carve 'n Set Electric Knife with Case, White

Hamilton Beach 74250 Carve 'n Set Electric Knife with Case, WhiteThis is a really nice electric knife carving set. I bought it because it was such a good deal and also because i always find myself saying, "Gee, it would be much easier to cut this up if i had an electric knife." And now i have one. The nice storage box, not mentioned very well in description, makes it very easy to store. It is very annoying with other knives i have seen to have blades in one place, electrical part in another and carving fork somewhere else. this makes it very easy to store in one place. And its from a name you know and love!

This is a great little electric knife set. The knife is powerful, the blades are sharp, and the handy cutting fork and storage box make it a sweet deal. It took me only a minute to figure out the best way to open the plastic storage box, so don't be too discouraged by the other reviewers. I didn't find it all that difficult, and it's so handy to have everything stored neatly together.

If you're looking for a good deal on an electric knife, I recommend the 74250 Hamilton Beach Carve 'N Set.

I received this knife back in November and generally do not write reviews on products but I have to say if you are considering purchasing it JUST DO IT. I have carved up approx. 24 roast beefs and 3 turkeys since having it and it hasn't stalled out yet and doesn't seem as though it will. I hope I am not jinxing myself by writing this but give it a shot the worse that can happen is you will return it for a full refund. GOOD LUCK

I hate this knife. I've had it for a year now and every once in a while I figure I'll give it another shot so I pull it out again and am quickly reminded of why I hate it.

First: the two blades are too far apart I end up with a good fraction of what I'm cutting getting shredded BETWEEN to the two blades.

Second: there's no lock for the trigger so you have to hold it down for the entirety of the slice (and if sawing through a thick roast, you're holding it down for a REALLY long time).

Third: The handle is large and awkward. I don't have small hands but just to be sure, I had my large handed friend try it. He didn't consider it to be particularly comfortable either.

I'm going to see if I can find a better electric knife because, lord knows, a good one could get a lot of use in my kitchen. The "try agains" for this one are over I'm putting it on Ebay for some other unfortunate soul to use. Clearly there are a lot of positive reviews so I'll sell it to someone who might actually like the thing!

Diamant Eversharp S/S 3" Paring Knife w/ Poly Handle

Diamant Eversharp S/S 3' Paring Knife w/ Poly HandleI purchased three of these knives about 5-7 years ago and have used them continually since. When one was lost and the other broken by misuse, I bought some new knives at a local store. After trying five different brands and still not finding anything satisfactory, I was thrilled to find this wonderful knife still available. It does everything it says. I make almost all my meals from scratch for a family of nine and after many years of heavy use it still works fine. I highly recommend this wonderful product.

I had this knife since last 2 years, someone gifted me and I like this light weight and sharp knife very much. the steel part of it came out form the plastic recently and I bought couple of other same size knives and didn't like any. Therefore, I searched for this one and found it on amazon. Its cheap and good.

Have had a knife like this for years, it's still sharp. Wanted to replace some other knives, but couldn't find it locally. This is just a little bit different, little longer that my original but still love it. Feels good in my hand, so no slipping! Great for peeling and chopping.

Kyocera Wide Julienne Slicers

Kyocera CSN-182S-NBK Wide Julienne Slicer, BlackI bought this looking for something easier to store, set up, and put away than my Bron mandoline, but wound up somewhat disappointed. This is hard to store, and there's some problems with how the blades are configured.

This slicer measures 3-5/8" x 8", plus another 3-1/2" for the handle, so roughly 3-1/2" x 12" overall. That's smaller than the 6" x 16" Bron, but still pretty big, and takes a lot of room in the drawer. The bigger issue with storage is that there no way to protect the blade. The cutting guard doesn't attch in any way, and it comes packaged on a card, so there no box to keep it in. As a result, you have to hang it up or find a spot where the blades won't be damaged.

The blade configuration is the second big problem. Unlike the Bron, the vertical blades sit exposed about 1/2" in front of the horizontal blade. 40 razor sharp vertical nibs of somewhat brittle ceramic are not what I'd call a good idea. Hard to store safely--do you want ribbons sliced into your hand while fishing around in a drawer?--and hard to protect from damage.

Usage-wise, this is effective. As typical for Kyocera, the blades on this are extremely sharp. I have some Kyocera knives over 12 years old that are still razor-sharp, despite never haveing been sharped. The one caveat is that you can chip the blades if you aren't careful.

Like most mandolines, the blade guard serves more to guard against lawsuits than actually providing a way to protect your hand. Leave a stub on the vegetables you're cutting, and use a dishtowel or a cut-resistant glove to protect your hand. Because the vertical blades are exposed and not tucked under the main blade, you'll need to be very careful as you get toward the end.

Cut-wise, this works pretty well. You get a standard julienne cut. I don't know why it's call a wide julienne. The only quibble is that unless you use a lot of downward pressure, you tend to get ribbons instead of square julienne. Downward pressure is dangerous because of those exposed vertical blades. On a standard mandoline, you can adjust to compensate for that, but here you are stuck with the designed blade spacing.

In the end this loses a star for the exposed blades, and a second star for the lack of a guard for storage.

I have been using this product for a few years now. It is a very simple kitchen tool that does the job well enough in many situations. It julianne slices ginger, cucumber, carrot, and a lot of other things, especially for those that are used in bulk quantity or only for flavor. For example, when I make ginger-infused dry vermouth, I can use less ginger and still extract ginger flavor fully and quickly by julienne slicing ginger. If I'm slicing ginger by hand, I'd not bother julienne slicing and use more sliced ginger and infuse a bit longer. But this thing is handy in a situation like this. (Julienne sliced ginger is easy to remove by straining.)

For salad and garnish, I would still slice them by hand. The cut surfaces do not look as pretty compared to the results I can get easily using a very sharp vegetable knife (which is generally true for a lot of cutting tools of this type). The advantage of this tool is speed and simplicity. Again, I would not use this thing to make garnish, unless I'm cooking for a large party. But then a better option is a professional quality mandoline with a proper blade.

Among a few other good options for julienne slicing, I still rate it 4 stars because it is simple, easy to use, quick to wash and store away. Professional grade mandoline would require more work to set up and clean up. Hand cutting would require clean cutting board space. This tool requires not much more than two hands to work with.

With this you get professional thin (amazon description says 1/8" but the one that arrived was 1/10" or 0.1" compared to 0.09" for the regular julienne slicer, I don't think that makes it much different to advertise this product as giving you a "wide" julienne... the size difference is so minute that you probably won't be able to tell) julienne cuts easily and fast! It is amazing.

The finger protector is not perfect but works fine when the vegetable gets to about 2 inches high or less. Obviously, it will leave about a 1/3 inch stump you'll have to either cut yourself or use it for another time. I say this because the julienne pieces are so beautifully uniform that you'd probably want to not mix anything else :)

What's great about this product is that the blade is made from ceramic with some kind of high tech diamond sharpened technology and it sure is sharp! And they don't rust or corrode and they advertise that it stays sharp 10 times longer than steel blades.

Highly recommend! My only regret is that I did not get the slicer together, I'm going to get the double-sided slicer, for vegetables like onions and peppers which can't be julienned.

I think I could make great hashbrown with this stuff in no time!!!

I bought this and it does exactly what I wanted and expected.

There is a typo on the package and in the product description: the strips produced are not 1" wide, they are 0.1"=2.5mm wide. The typo is clear enough from the product picture where the little verticle teeth are spaced at 1/10th of an inch, but I thought it might be worth commenting.

Love these slicers!

I have used this slicer several times a week for almost 6 months. It is still as sharp as the day I got it. I use it mainly to slice carrots and cucumbers. Slicing is fast and easy. I can slice an entire cucumber in less than a minute. I generally just rinse the slicer well and let it air dry. I put it in the dishwasher periodically or after slicing carrots (to get rid of the orange carrot color). The slicer comes with a small plastic thingy with little plastic spikes to use as a holder when the vegetable or fruit gets small (to avoid thinly slicing your fingers -I have no doubt that this would slice fingers quite easily, although I have thus far avoided testing that theory!). The little plastic guard works, but it takes me some doing to keep a carrot or other really hard vegetable from slipping off, as the little plastic spikes work better on softer foods. The slicer is very thin, so storage is easy, even in my cramped kitchen. I lean it against the inside wall of a cabinet, slicing side toward the wall. I wouldn't want to stick it in a drawer, as I would be afraid of slicing my fingertips off while looking for it. The only real drawback I see is that the thickness of slices is not adjustable. You only get paperthin. I will have to see if they make one of these for thicker slices, as sometimes I want a thicker slice.

Kyocera Revolution Series 4-1/4-Inch Utility Knife

Kyocera Revolution Series 4-1/4-Inch Utility Knife, Blue HandleThis is the sharpest knife I have ever used. And I use good German and Japanese steel knives. It is so sharp it is dangerous if you are not careful. If you play with it like an inept clown and drop it and chip the blade, you might give it one star. But if you know your way around the kitchen, it is five star for sure.

I use it for fruits and vegetables only. It is light and very sharp, doesn't stain, easy to wash. It was amazing to discover that I could slice a large juicy tomato while holding it in my hand, with no juice lost! I keep it in a drawer in the original plastic container: it sits there firmly and is easy to pull out. I strongly recommend it for those who can limit it's use to gentlier jobs. Very happy with the purchase!

I bought this knife directly from Kyocera, though it's a little cheaper here on Amazon, and have been more than impressed with it. This knife is perfect for your smaller cutting jobs. It is razor sharp, and super easy to use. I have been using it just about every day for the past 3 months and have had no problems what so ever. It is still just as sharp as the doy I took it out of the box. If you keep it away from bones, and frozen foods, and only cut on a wood cutting board, I am confident this knife will last you the rest of your life.

Wusthof 8-in. Classic Bread Knife.

Wusthof 8-in. Classic Bread Knife.I have yet to be disappointed with a wusthof knife. This one too, was sure to impress. Every knife in the "classic" series is perfectly balanced with a full tang. The bread knife slices through even the crustiest bread like it's pudding.

Let's face it you can buy a break knife for alot less money. If you are looking for quality, nothing and I mean NOTHING beats a product made by Wusthof. This German Company knows cutting knives and they are not about to 'cut' quality/materials to sell the same type of competitive product for $19.99. TV commercially advertised products (especially the buy one get one) are junk. Like when was the last time you tried using your kitchen knife to cut a steel pipe or saw a 2x4 in half. You want the BEST...you can't miss with this product...Amazon knows and carries the right stuff.
