When this arrived, I was very pleasantly surprised at the weight of this tray. It is a very well made organizer that I expect to outlast me. The compartments are more than big enough to hold service for 4 people plus my chef's knives, bread knives, paring knives, & such. This organizer by design, will keep your silverware & such cleaner than if it were made from a solid material.Because of the style & quality of this organizer, my silverware drawer is so much better organized.

Im not really a kitchen knife expert or anything, but I do own a set of 4 star I. Everything I have ever read says 4 star is by far Henckels best line...its their flagship (better then the pro s, better then the 5 star). Anyway my 4star I santoku fell onto my tile and the tip broke off a few months ago. I decided to replace it with the 4star II model. I just got it. It feels pretty good and is way sharper out of the box then the 4 star I. The extra steel on the handle is obviously taken from the spine of the blade. Looking at the 4star I and 4 star II side by side from the top down, the 4 star I has a much broader spine making the knife feel more sturdy.Want Zwilling J.A. I am a professional cook and I LOVE this knifebut also, I can see why this knife might give some people problems. I love its extreme agilityit has a wonderful, lively action which is highly suited to very fast yet precise cutting. It is incredibly sharp, and the granton edge performs well. It is everything a santoku should be. I used a Shun for a long time until I realised that it was just too thick to produce the kind of precision cuts I needed to make.And this is where the problem liesits blade is VERY thin, and it needs to be handled with care. I baby mineI am ultra-careful about what I use it on, and when it's not in use it stays in a KnifeSafe blade cover. I have two ceramic rods and four different Japanese waterstones I use to keep it sharp. It's not an "all purpose" knife in any way, and I would not recommend it to anyone who is needing such a knife. And this includes professionals and home cooks alike.....anyone who is unable or unwilling to handle it with care. For more general use, I would recommend the Shun santoku with the granton edgeit is a thick, beefy knife that works well for most things. Or, for a more budget-friendly choice, try the Kai Wasabi santokuit's an excellent, inexpensive workhorse.
Using my older knives in the house feels awkward and clumsy compared to the Santoku. This knife is highly recommended since it feels great in my hands and does the cutting with minimal effort!

I got my first MAC knives back in the 70s, thin metal blades with a hole in the tip so they could be hung up on a peg. Those knives kept their razor edge with only an occasional drag along some unglazed pottery for about 10 years, and I'm talking about 10 years of hard use in a vegetarian kitchen.After that, they needed to be professionally sharpened or sharpened on a home electric sharpener with a diamond wheel. I've done this twice in 30 years.
I've since upgraded the original to this one, the Santoku with a granton edge. I can't praise it highly enough. The razor sharp edge glides through everything effortlessly, the balance is perfect for me and the construction is as sturdy as you'd ever want.

Compared to any other knife in this price class, this is the brand to inspect. I have tried many knives, cheaper and more expensive alike. this brand is priced in a range where we expect to find quality knives. I believe that MAC knives are no nonsense, well made top quality knives that outshine its peers in its price range.MSK-65 is very sharp, superbly balanced. And feels great. It cuts and slices where other knives pull and wedge. The hollow spots release food, even the super thin sliced stuff.
Great comfort. I am big man with large hands and do NOT like the knive handles with "ends." I find it compromises my grip. I don't want a knife maker to tell me where my fingers go. This knife is good with my hands.
Very strong. but thinner and lighter than many of its competitors. I trust this knife to last a very very long time. And it has the japanese edge, which is sharpened at a more acute angle than the standard German/American knife. This is similar to the Shun knivesvery hard steel, very thin sharp edge. But it is not damascus, so it's significantly cheaper.

I actually love this knife. When it got here it was a lot bigger than I expected (evidently I don't actually know how big ten inches is) but it works great. It is amazing how much easier it is for me to cut and chop with a knife that actually holds and edge.
Has good balance. Personally, would like a little more weight but I admittedly prefer heavy. Most do not? Very sharp out of the box.
Chose Mundial based on $$, blade shape, and the red handle. Yes, the red handle. Blade has less belly than Wusthof but is not as triangular as Henckles. Overall quite satisfied.

I am very satisfied with this knife so far after using it a few times. I have deboned some chicken thighs and carved up some vegetables and it works and feels great. Quality-wise it seems just as well-made as the 8" chef knife of my mother.I would recommend this knife.

after seeing the 7 piece set listed in consumer reports as their number one choice overall, I started to explore the market, online, at ebay, and then at amazon. I placed this set in my "basket" when they were $299, and this is an 8 piece set, with the extra santoku knife not listed in the 7 piece set that consumer reports listed. Well, checking back every day or two, I noticed that the set had suddenly dropped to $165. It doesn't take one long, when you have checked around, to recognize a good deal when you see it. I jumped on it. It took them 4 days before they shipped it, was worried that they were having second thoughts about the price, especially since the day after I ordered it, they raised the price back up to $299. But then, they arrived. I don't use or need the block, as I prefer the magnetic knife strip, by MIU, which I also got here on amazon. It holds them off the counter, so taking no counter space, and is much more sanitary than what could accumulate in the knife slots on the block. These knives are beautiful, VERY sharp, well balanced, and its nice considering that I no longer need to think about knives from now on. Go for the quality, as it is cheaper in the long run than cheap knives (or anything), and when you see a good sale, jump before they change their mind!

These knives are lighter than I expected, not so they feel cheap but nearly as light as a ceramic of the same size. Terribly sharp, the steel does a great job on knives of lesser quality, I have not yet had to sharpen any of the Zwilling knives. The paring knife snapped off perpendicular to the edge while cutting a small block of Jarlsberg. I have returned the knife to the manufacturer for replacement. Will let you know how that goes. These are lovely knives, so far I am pleased...if my paring knife gets replaced.Paring knife replaced no questions asked, bumped the review up a star on the incredible usefulness of the sharpening steel. It works with all knives and results in a edge that is just a bit "scary sharp" never seen anything like it before.

I hate crappy steak knives. Have you ever noticed that once stuff wanders into your kitchen it is hard to get rid of it: that old set of dishes, cutlery from college, gadgets that have long since outlived their usefulness? I still had some old serrated knives with plastic handles that I owned since college, but unlike my nice kitchen knives, somehow these would never disappear. With great hopes of displacing by dilution, I decided to give these a try. The wood handles are beautiful, the tang is adequate, but does not feel hefty (sometimes I like that). I would say they feel more like a surgical instrument, very sharp, very precise, and well-balanced. The wood handles are beautiful even after two years of use (hand wash only) despite the fact that I have not oiled the wood regularly. If you can stomach the price, they will not disappoint.
