Kyocera Revolution Series 5 1/4-Inch Slicing Knife

Kyocera Revolution Series 5 1/4-Inch Slicing Knife, White BladeKyocera ceramics are the sharpest knives I've ever seen or used in a career marked by years of professional cooking. But that is well known; an argument that need not be advanced by me. I want to respond to the reviewer who complained that his knife lost its keen edge after two months use. I've been slicing tomatoes and other soft fruits and vegetables with this knife for more than five years, not just on weekends but day in and day out in a commercial kitchen. It remains as sharp today as when I took it out of the box. I suspect that the unhappy reviewer was misusing the knife by cutting on the wrong type of surface, dragging the blade against bone or otherwise asking the knife to do things that it was not designed to do, and which the manufacturer clearly says not to do.

Use it properly and you may never find out how well and quickly Kyocera can resharpen it for you.

Best knives ever just be careful not to drop them, as they are more brittle than steel, and will break under certain conditions. I'd recommend getting a knife sharpener that is meant for ceramic blades as a steel sharpener will ruin a ceramic blade. Finally, don't use on stone, glass or stainless steel cutting surfaces, as the super-fine edge will wear much more quickly.

One feature (some like it/some hate it) is they are very light in weight, and if you are used to a nice set of steel knives, it might take a while to get used to the feel.

Great knives.

I had never used a ceramic knife before, but I must say that it cuts tomatoes and meat like butter! I am very happy I invested money in this knife. The company sends along a free knife sharpening coupon redemable at their company because you can't use the traditional knife sharpener on the ceramic blade. This adds a level of comfort since the blades can chip if you drop the knife on a hard surface or use pressure with it on bone.

I bought this knife to supplement my Henkel, Wusthof, and Messermeister knives. I've never owned a ceramic knife, and having read the reviews here, thought this might be a nice addition to my burgeoning collection (I love sharp knives). I especially wanted it for my fruit/veggie art carvings, where a really sharp knife is necessary.

The knife is certainly very well made, and feels fairly well balanced. The absence of rivets makes the blade end a bit heavier than the handle, however. As the handle totally encases the tang, I cannot tell if it is full tang or not. But the handle is a little light to my feel but that may be just me. It still feels pretty good despite this shortcoming.

The first time I used it, it was amazingly sharp. I had no problem slicing the thinnest radish, cucumber, carrot, or any hard veggie slices I could get my hands on. Being a honing (sharpening) steel freakazoid addict, I was disappointed that I could not use that prior to returning the ceramic knife to my wooden butcher block, but I knew that going in.

Now, after a month, it's not so sharp at all. Note: I cut ONLY on cork or end grain wood boards, so that is not the issue. I can't see any burrs, but I know they must be there because it does at times snag on foods, and doesn't give thin slices as it did just one month ago. I know I can return it to Kyocera for sharpening, but at this price point, I'm not going to invest more money.

For those with limited funds (read as: me), I believe it is better to get a high quality carbon steel knife from the three mfgrs I mentioned above, use the honing steel before and after every use, and the Chef's Choice sharpener (or its equivalent, although there really IS no equivalent in my experience) to reset the edge once/year (that's my average) and you'll do fine. (I also own the simpler Accusharp device, but it is not all that great.)

Bottom line? Ceramic may be great for some things, but in my limited experience (and perhaps this only holds true for the Kyocera brand) this was not worth the money invested.

Whatever knife you choose, best of luck in your cutting. Be sure to invest in the best cutting board you can find (end grain maple is consistently rated the softest). It does not matter WHICH knife you buy if you use a cheap board (glass is the WORST by far). Been there, done that. I've seen good knives dulled by just one use of low quality cutting boards. It amazes me when people spend $150 or more on a high quality knife, and I see them using a glass cutting board. Just stupefying to me.

This knife has to be the sharpest knife I have ever used. Effortlessly cuts. Really nice. The only issue is that it does not come with a sheath as many I have seen do. It is too sharp to leave in the drawer, and I would be wary of damaging the blade as well. I don't use a block due to limited counter space. A protective sheath would be perfect.

MinoSharp 220/GB Ceramic Wheel Water Sharpener, Grey/Black

MinoSharp 220/GB Ceramic Wheel Water Sharpener, Grey/BlackThis is a great aid to sharpen Global knives. I disagree with the review that said it dulled the knives. The tool has ceramic wheels set at the proper angles to get the correct Japanese set to these knives, which have different angles to each side of the blade. After 8-9 passes with no pressure on the knife through the rougher and then the finer wheels, the knife is ALMOST back to factory condition. Then, it is necessary to use a fine DIAMOND hone to get that last degree of razor sharpness. And make no mistake, a properly sharpened Global knife is that sharp, and this tool makes it easy to keep them razor sharp. Instead of a diamond hone, you can also use a very fine waterstone to hone them, but trust me, the diamond hone is easiest, although it does not leave the edge quite as polished as the finest waterstones. This tool and a diamond hone let me return my Global knives to scary sharp in less than 5 minutes each. They are so sharp that whenever I sharpen them, I warn my wife that they are super sharp (as opposed to very sharp!), just to make sure that she is extra-careful when she uses them.

Now, having said that, the package states that it is recommended for Global knives, and no one should use this tool on anything other than Global knives, or similar Japanese-style knives. It is not meant for European-style knives, whose blades have a different set.

I'm not sure how people are banging up their knives using this simple, effective sharpener. Slow down, folks. Take your time.

I own a number of Global knives, and sharpen them all using the MinoSharp with tremendous success. I've even had luck sharpening Henckel and Wusthof knives with this. I enjoy using it, and when I'm done, my knives are like new.

Buy MinoSharp 220/GB Ceramic Wheel Water Sharpener, Grey/Black Now

Before you buy the Shinkansen Sharpener for your Global knives you must understand that it doesn't return the blades to their factory sharpness.

When I first bought my Globals I was warry of using my old ceramic stone on their extremely acute edge, so I bought the Shinkansen Sharpener to go with them. When they arrived, the knives' sharpness lived up to everything that's said about them, but after I ran the chef's knife through both slots several times... the knife got DULLER! Repeated use did not do any more harm to the blade, but it never improved either.

It seems that, because of it's simplicity, the Shinkansen Sharpener is best for returning very dull blades back to a servicable edge, but it will never get them really sharp.

I picked this up as a quick and easy knife sharpener for work. It managed to scratch up the side of the blade of one of my Global knives with the plastic guide.

the slots/guide to run your knife blade through are narrow, some larger knives may not fit into it if the blade is thick.

after about 1 year one of the stones broke, however you can buy replacements.

For the home user, this will suffice. If you use your knife all day long like I do, I recommend the good old tri stone instead. Ok to have as an emergency knife sharpener in your knife bag.

I was never was able to get a good enough edge with this product to do fine chiffonade and other cuts that require good knife skills.

I bought this to sharpen several Global knives after comparing it to the confusing and expensive arrays of sharpening stones out there. The sharpener is easy to use and made of high quality materials. To operate Simply fill the small tray with water and run the knife thru the offset grooves over a course and fine ceramic wheel. After a minute i was done with several knives. Comparing the globals afterward I had mixed feelings because the knives were already pretty sharp to begin with. The revelation though was how well it worked on my Wusthof Grand Prix Knives. In fact they restored them to better than new as i was always dissatisfied with them because they were never very sharp which led me to Globals to begin with. Now the Wusthof's are of comparable sharpness. This is a great item and well worth the price.

Stanton Trading 18 by 30 by 1/2-Inch Cutting Board, White

Stanton Trading 18 by 30 by 1/2-Inch Cutting Board, WhiteIf you're looking for a large cutting board, this is it. I knew the dimensions when I ordered it, but I was nonetheless surprised by its size when I received it. It fits nicely on our island, but pretty much dominates the entire space. For me, that's fine. We use it all the time and it's been easy to clean and though I was worried it would show stains easily, I was surprised to find that so far, at least, it hasn't stained at all.

Due to its size, there's little chance you'll fit it in the dishwasher, so you will need to wash it by hand.

Overall, I'm extremely pleased with this cutting board.

The STANTON TRADING 18 X 30 CUTTING BOARD is an excellent kitchen tool. It's very large (measure your counter area before ordering -it's bigger than you might expect), and it has an excellent two-sided surface for cutting and prep work.

Only two negatives: 1) it's quite slippery and moves around a bit on my counter top. As someone else suggested, a dish towel placed under the board during cutting helps keep it in one place. 2) There's no recessed groove for catching juices

Neither of the negatives should prevent you from ordering this. If you're looking for a large, attractive cutting board, this will certainly do the trick.

Was looking for a board that would help me clean fish. This fit the bill very well. Everything from 9" panfish to 28" Walleye have been on this board. The fish don't slip and slide and the board is easy to clean.

What can you say about a flat, rectangular piece of plastic? It's what it says it is. I'd have preferred one with a groove around the edges to catch spills, but this works well.

We have a tiled kitchen counter, and this provides a nice sized workspace where we're not worried about spills in the grout or the hard surface of the tiles.

One small drawback. Mine is not perfectly flat. There's probably about an 1/8 inch bow, which you have to expect, I'd think, with a board this large. It means if you put one side down, it rocks a little. If you put the other side down it sit nicely on the four corners.

We keep a dish towel under it anyway, to limit sliding on the counter, and that takes care of the bow.

Very large, I didn't consider the measurements, but it does fit on my counter top and definitely works better than my small cutting board.

Rachael Ray Tools Bench Scrape Shovel

Rachael Ray Tools Bench Scrape Shovel, OrangeEvery now and then I run across a simple little tool that I knew about but never owned. I always used the side of my chefs knife to transfer chopped, diced or minced food to the pan or bowl. I thought that a scoop or shovel was not necessary and was better suited for amateurs. Then I was cooking at a friend's house and saw him using this exact tool. I was shocked to see how quickly he picked up every bit of the chopped rosemary that was on his cutting board. As soon as I got home I purchased Rachael Ray's Bench Scrape/Shovel and I am glad that I did.

I am always surprised by just how much food fits in this thing. In addition to using it as I shovel, I also use it to clean my cutting board, especially when I have been rolling dough on it. I also can divide dough with the knife edge of the scrape. I like it so much I will be using it as a hostess gift when I am invited to someone's house. It would also be an appropriate gift for a young cook. Great product!

I love this bench scraper. It's large -5 x 6 inches, including the handle -so some people might find it awkward. But I like that you can scoop up everything in one shot. The handle is comfortable, but what I like most is that the sides have an edge sloping down from the handle, so chopped food doesn't fall off when you scrape it up off your cutting board. The shipping charge was outrageous -as much as the item itself -so I tried to find it locally (Kohl's carries Rachel Ray items) but couldn't. I got it for a Christmas present so I try not to think about the shipping rip-off.

This product is hard to find in stores so you can't really look at it before buying it, but I recommend you purchase it anyway. You're probably comparing this to a normal pastry scraper (which might be cheaper), but this is better for the following reasons:

1. More surface area, many pastry scrapers are like 4x6 inches, while this is roughly 6x6.

2. The rubber grip on the handle is pretty unique and definitely a big plus.

3. Some handles on pastry scrapers are round and won't lie flat on the bench.

It's an all-around solid, sturdy product.

really like this product so far...edge is kind of sharp, so watch out. holds a lot of chopped items in one scoop. great thing to have if you cook with a lot of cut veggies!

I would expect more from Rachael Ray and for the cost of this product. Cannot put in dishwasher unless you want the glue that holds the colored part of the tool on to come out the sides. Have to hand wash this product. Too costly for the cheapness.

Ginsu 5217 Koden Series Stainless Steel Open Stock 4-Piece Steak Knife Set

Ginsu 5217 Koden Series Stainless Steel Open Stock 4-Piece Steak Knife SetI've had several steak knife sets over the years with the typical boring black plastic handles that look cheap at the table setting before sitting down to dinner, so I wanted something nice for a change and these really fit the bill. I didn't want to spend a fortune either so when I saw these for under $15 locally last year I couldn't believe it and bought them on the spot. The handles are very smooth, sized well and really nice looking on the table, plus they cut amazingly smoothly with the dual serrated edge unlike the sawing edge most steak knives in this price range have. Guests always comment on how nice they slice and look so I'm very pleased with them. They are not dishwasher safe because of the high carbon steel used which keeps them so sharp plus firm, not flimsy as some steak knives are which is a good thing since hand washing and towel drying is normal for any quality cutlery, even this inexpensive and there is not a single spot of rust on any of them. Its great to have quality and value at the same time and with proper care these will keep on going for many many years to come.

The manufacturer sent me these knives as a replacement for the "Ginsu Essential Series 4-Piece 4.5-Inch Stainless Steel Steak Knife Set with Triple Riveted Polymer Handles 4805" which developed rust spots not long after several uses... And lo and behold, these knives developed rust spots as well.

I've sent back these knives and the replacement set also rusted... It got to a point where the manufacturer didn't even want me to send the bad knives back, so now I have 16 of these awful knives tucked away in my cupboard.

Maybe I can unload these knives on a passing circus or carnival.

Farberware Ceramic 3-Piece Set, Includes 3-Inch Paring Knife with Sheath and a Peeler

Farberware Ceramic 3-Piece Set, Includes 3-Inch Paring Knife with Sheath and a PeelerI love the paring knife! The peeler, however, does not do the job. I have an old Farberware peeler and I expected the same quality, but this ceramic peeler is not good. It doesn't work both ways; you can only use it in one direction. Also, it is not sharp at all. It cuts little thin pieces at a time, so instead if five seconds it takes a minute to peel a carrot. They sell the paring knife without the peeler; I recommend buying that.

This set of ceramic knife and peeler is the perfect complement to the ceramic knives I already owned. Sharp and stylish, and the peeler was an unexpected delight (I knew the knife would be fabulous!). They do the job with half the effort of a regular knife or peeler!

I wondered why this knife was so cheap compared to other ceramic knives, but i bought it anyway. There is no issue with the build quality, i know how to use and take care of ceramic knives properly, so i have not damaged the blade yet. The problem is the cutting edge is just a sliver. You can seriously cut alot of stuff with such a small edge on the blade. Oh it's sharper than heck, but i want to be able to cut through a chicken strip in one slice, and this doesn't cut it, literally. Also Ceramic blades are supposed to prevent food from sticking to the blade, but i got lots of cheese stuck to this one.

I have wanted a ceramic knife for some time. I finally decided it was worth the splurge as I am cooking a huge meal for my relatives this weekend. This knife is really nice. I plan to get a few different ceramic knives to replace my steel ones I have now.

Gerber 22-41847 DF8 Sharpener

Gerber 22-41847 DF8 SharpenerI've read the existing reviews and here is something that must be added so that those [like me] who have brought this item will not be disappointed. The Gerber finger sharpener is made to sharpen blades with a 30 degree angle this includes axes, pocket knives or any other blades of 30 degrees. "IF" the kitchen knives you have happen to be a 20 degree edge, it will not work, was not made to work and never will.

For kitchen knives with a 20 degree angle, you have the choice of the Ozitech knife sharpener finger style which you can find online or YouTube to see demo, unfortunately there is no demo for Gerber's system. A sad mistake on their part. if you go to YouTube and watch the demo at the end is there web address so you can buy the type you need, just make sure first that you know absolutely what angle degree you need first before ordering either.

hope this helps.

I tried this over and over and if anything it dulled my knife along with scratching it near the tip. I absolutely recommend ANYTHING besides this...very disappointed in Gerber...great knives absolute poor sharpener...

I've bought several kitchen knife sharpeners over the past twenty years and foolishly used them in place of my diamond steel which took so long to sharpen my knives. After ruining the edge and taper on most of my knives I bought this one because of online recommendations for it. It restored most of my knives to a factory edge after only a few minutes sharpening. I'm confident that it will restore all of them with a little patience. My slicing knife will now cut tomatoes with one downward stroke without sawing them so that's a definite plus. The most impressive thing is that the knives stay sharper longer than before and it's simple to use. For the price it's well worth it.

Kotobuki Gyuto Knife

Kotobuki 9-1/2-Inch Gyuto KnifeI like the knife just fine, it's for work so I didn't want anything too fancy. Seems defect free, the wooden handle is on the light side, but it's bolstered so the balance isn't too off center. Comes sharpened. I think it fits well in my large to average hand. If anything it would be small. As of now it does seem a little better than what I expected for the price. If this wasn't my third chef's knife, I would be a little bit more generous in my review. I have a nice Carbon Steel and another I generally keep at home, but they are also much more expensive. It's held it's edge for a couple weeks, and it's much nicer using this than anything work provides and they have theirs sharpened weekly. Hopefully some of the other chef's will see me using it, copy me, or borrow it, and get just as knife happy as me.

i have had this knife for about a year now. it is a litttle UNDERpriced if you ask me, this thing has taken a beating and is still with me. i think it is a little on the lighter side, which is why i like it. i use it almost everyday, and i had it throughout culinary school as well. it hasnt stained, and it holds its edge very well. perfect knife for someone looking to get a japanese blade but doesnt want to drop 200 bucks.

Zwilling J.A. Henckels Twin Cuisine 8-Inch Chef's Knife (B-Grade*)

Zwilling J.A. Henckels Twin Cuisine 8-Inch Chef's KnifeThis is just a quick warning about the Twin Cuisine design for all those that are interested.

Four star for the cutting ability of the knife, One star for the handles,(Because you can't click no stars)

I have been involved with the restaurant industry for some thirty years now as a Chef, management, designer, contractor etc... So I know good from bad when it comes to restaurant products.

About four years ago I decided to purchase a new set of knives. Henckel being one of my top choices, based on previous experience and ownership.

I settled on the Twin Cuisine because I liked the larger handle and overall weight of the knives and the look. Full length tang, no rivets and a more robust design of the handle. I purchased from various vendors on Amazon a compliment of around nine knives of various lengths and cutting styles. I also got two sets of the Twin Cuisine Steak Knives.

Speaking for the knife, (cutting portion) they are a great set of knives. They keep there edge, (as long as you hone them) and I think I have only had to sharpen them a few times over the years.

Now for the handles. Every one of these knives the handles are cracked, not cracking.... cracked. From my 10" chef knife to the steak knives. There is definitely a flaw in the plastic used to mold these handles. I have found references on other forums about this problem with the twin cuisine so buyer-be-ware.

Although they are warrantied for life the hassle is you have to send them in one at a time to Henckel, which frankly I have not taken the time to do, and it can take them up to eight weeks to deal with the warranty.

This is a great knife! Very well made and does the job! I had the Wusthoff top of their line chef's knife and exchanged it for this one. This knife to me was sharper and better balanced. And this style handle fits my hand well. If you have a larger hand you may find this grip more comfortable. Although I do own a few hand forged Wusthoff knives, in my opinion Henckels makes a better knife.

Buy Zwilling J.A. Henckels Twin Cuisine 8-Inch Chef's Knife (B-Grade*) Now

I am 5'10", with hands to match. Knives with the traditional handle are just too small and my hands cramp up if I have to use them for a while. The handles on these are thick and solid and ergonomically curved. Great for a woman with larger hands or your average guy. Wouldn't recommend them for a small woman because of the handle size and because they are a heavier knife overall. My only negative with these knives is that they don't have an ID on the end of the handle the way another company (is it Wustof?) does, which makes it easy to find the knife you want without pulling them out to check.

I am an assistant to an executive chef and instructor at one of the top ten culinray schools in the country. Althought I am not a professional myself, I find that using top equipment makes the differences. This knife speaks for itself. The edge has remainded true without a lot of fuss. The ease of use is something else. If used correctly you can slice and dice all day. The only drawback is the weight. Some might fine it a little heavy at first, but stick with it, the wait will be worth it. Excellant knife

Mikasa Classico Satin 18/0 45-Piece Flatware Set, Service for 8

Mikasa Classico Satin 18/0 45-Piece Flatware Set, Service for 8I had bought this product in a Mikasa store a while back and was looking to add servings to the flatware I had. I was so excited to see Amazon had these, but when I got the box, it was completely different than those I had purchased from the Mikasa store. The original Mikasa flatware I have is made in Korea and is 18/10, the ones from Amazon I got were made in Indonesia and are 18/0, quite a difference in appearance, weight, etc... The Mikasa pieces I have came individually wrapped and in their box, these came all together in bags wrapped in a rubber band, and all together in 1 box. Very poor presentation and not to mention quality. The original flatware I have is dishwasher safe, these are not! So I'm definitely returning! I was looking in the Miksasa online store and they have this flatware, but again in 18/0 and they don't mention wether made in Indonesia or Korea... I assume Indonesia, but very disappointing to see they have lowered their quality standards.

I ordered this to replace pieces of this original flat ware made in Korea and it is 18/10 steel. This is low quality attempt that does not match. It is very crude and disappointing even if it was not a mismatch for replacement. They should give this another name since it is so different and low quality.

Now someone we let stay at our home has lost three salad forks and I am having difficulty finding replacements that are 18/10 and not 18/0. (I would not purchase 18/0 flatware because it won't match.) I looked on the Mikasa site where they still sell sets of 18/10, but did not find a way to purchase individual pieces. All of the replacement pieces I have found online are 18/0. The set is not serviceable with only five salad forks, so now I'm looking for a new set of flatware. Not happy.

Very light weight, good handle, EXTREMELY sharp!! Best knife for prep cutting vegetables. Read instructions; knife cuts utilizing a straight slicing motion not intended to carve or chop straight down on tile, glass or plates. Must be used with a cutting board do not use on a cutting mat, the blade will slice through the surface. If you allow children to help with meal preparation I would not recommend that they use ceramic knives.

Zwilling J.A. Henckels Twin Pro S 8-Inch High Carbon Stainless-Steel Bread Knife

Zwilling J.A. Henckels Twin Pro S 8-Inch High Carbon Stainless-Steel Bread KnifeI may use my Chef's knife everyday, but I use this knife every other day--more often than one would think. This isn't just a bread knife, but a heavy-duty serious serrated utility knife, the best thing to cut super-thin tomato slices or anything with a skin, like sausage.

The triple rivet handles are classic and the construction is neigh-on flawless--I look forward to having my children (currently not even a gleam in my eye) inherit these in the same condition they're in now.

After purchasing three other Henckels Pro S Knives (non-serrated) and being satisfied with the quality, we purchased this bread knife assuming the expense would be worth it. BUYER BEWARE. We only used this knife on bread and pastry, always used a cutting board and hand washed it. But after only a couple months use, the serrations not only bent out of shape, but very small fissures, almost like cracks, appeared in the blade. The blade was so jagged the dishcloth would hook on the blade and it was putting little holes in my dishtowels. I packaged it back up in the original packaging and sent it to the Henckels customer relations department, assuming that this reputable company would stand behind the product. But five weeks later I received my knife in the mail with a message that simply said the knife needed professional sharpening. PLUS, they had thrown away the original packaging I had saved specifically in case I ever needed to send the knife in and make use of the warranty, and instead they sent the knife back to me in a cheap disposable plastic sleeve. The fissures in the blade were too deep for sharpening to get out without completely grinding it away. So I tried calling the Customer Relations department THREE times. All times I had to leave messages that were never returned. And beware, it is difficult to find a sharpening service that will sharpen a serrated knife. I could only find places I would have to mail it out to again that said they would try it. I finally took it to my local butcher shop who said they would try to sharpen it but couldn't guarantee I'd be happy with the finished product as the blade was in such beat up condition. By the time they filed out most of the nicks and cracks the tips of the serrations had been filed almost completely away. I was furious that the company hadn't stood behind this expensive knife, as faulty craftsmanship is the only explanation for the condition the knife was in after such a short amount of time. I will never purchase another Henckels knife again simply because the customer service was so terrible and it seems so unfair that I am stuck with this piece of junk knife. Complete waste of of money.

Excellent ability to cut breads. Only drawback is that it's a bit too long for our knife block. Just double check on the length of your knife block if this concerns you.

When I was washing the knife I noticed that the fine edge on the serrations had bent over to the non-scalloped side of the blade. I guess i found this a little irritating since i spent a fortune on this knife. It cuts bread fine, but i would not purchase again if i had the choice.

They shouldn't call this a bread knife, they should call it the Everything knife. The ultra-sharp steel saws through just about everything...I use it as my carving knife for meats, and it has held up without any problems for more than two years so far.

The design is beautiful, the weight has a solid, heavy feeling, and you can wash them in the dishwasher. This is a classic design that will last for years and years.

Starfrit Salad Spinner

Starfrit Salad SpinnerOur old spinner is the circular crank on the top of the salad spinner lid. It still works well, but is a style that you don't seem to find anymore. We grow a lot of greens in the summer and really go through the salad. So we usually have a couple of spinners going at any one time. Unfortunately, we've had to make do the last few years with one of those Kitchen Aid models with the pump you push down hard to get spinning. From the get-go I knew that was a crummy design as the pressure you were applying was going directly to the bottom of the salad basket. Plus the pump tube running through the entirety of the salad basket used up way too much room in the basket, making for significantly reduced volume of salad. A **really** dumb design. And of course it ultimately failed just as described above--the application of downward pressure on the pump mechanism ultimately broke the bottom of the salad basket--DUH!! Thus rendering the Kitchen Aid into trash. So we shopped around and saw a number of other models with the dreaded pump mechanism--and costly, too. Then we found this unit on Amazon and ordered one. This is an excellent item. Holds a good quantity of salad, spins easily with a more natural cranking motion than the top-crank models (or those dumb cord-pull versions), and really gets the water out of the greens. Very economically priced as well. We use this thing a TON, and it is really holding up to our punishing use. If we need another spinner at some point, this will be the one. Stoked to have found this thing.

We have used this spinner about a month. My wife uses it and is salad spinning crazy. Loves this unit. Cannot speak about durability yet but if my wife gives this 5 stars must be great.

Followup9 months of frequent use and still working well.

18 months still going, used several times per week.

30 months STILL GOING STRONG.

No complaints! Spins well, stops when you press the button, and goes through the dishwasher with no problems. Be careful snapping in the handle when you assemble it, though.

This thing is awesome! I have been looking for a replacement for my old clunky OXO spinner which has the center "push down" button. I discovered this Starfrit spinner on Amazon, never seen it or heard of it before. I couldn't ignore all the 5 star reviews. Strange name and it looks so different. But it is actually a genius design. I was thinking of getting the Zyliss brand (has good reviews but not 5 star) with the string and pull handle but glad I didn't. The Starfrit spinner is amazingly easy to use. It doesn't matter what height you use it at; set it on the table, chair, counter, etc. The crank is ergonomically positioned so that it is easy to reach and use from any angle. I don't have to practically stand on it like my OXO which feels more like a piece of exercise equipment by comparison. The Starfrit's super smooth gearing works perfect and gets the basket spinning up to 10,000rpm in two crank revolutions. Ok I'm exaggerating, but that's what it certainly feels like! I should also mention that the crank uses a "freewheel" design like a bicycle. In other words, after you crank the basket up to speed it spins freely and independently of the stopped crank handle, smart and efficient! The brake is also powerful and works awesome to stop the basket from spinning. Seriously, if you can't get something dry after spinning it in here then something else is wrong, and it is not Starfrit's fault! Some reviewers commented on the large size of this unit so I was expecting some unusually big spinner. This spinner is the exact same size as the large OXO spinners which are typical in the market. As a matter of fact the basket from my OXO will swap into the Starfrit and it fits and works perfect! The basket dimensions are: 9.5" diameter and 5" tall, a typical spinner size. So this should resolve any size questions. This product is manufactured in China but cleverly designed in Canada. They should import more of these to the USA. Because then more people will realize how far superior it is and how it trounces all other designs.

I use my Starfrit every week to dry my wheatgrass after washing. Compared to my OXO, my spin drying time has been reduced by half or more. Besides having a poor design and a low mechanical advantage, the OXO is very load sensitive. The more vegetation I put in the more difficult it is to get it spinning and up to a good speed. I can now put more than twice the amount of wheatgrass into the Starfrit with no problem and it has the "horsepower" to dry it all with amazing ease. I am totally impressed with this product.

This spinner comes with a one year warranty from the manufacturer, you must register it at their web site as noted on the bottom of the box.

The reviews don't lie. If you want the best salad spinner this is it!

This is a great size a bit larger than most which I like. I grow my own lettuce and I didn't want anything electric. This one spins really well and has a break if you need, also sticks to the counter which is a nice feature.

Rocking T Knife

Rocking T KnifeI got one of these for my mom who has limited use of her left hand due to a stroke 13 years ago. She pretty much has to use just one hand to eat. This rocker-style knife allows her to cut most food, including meat. It doesn't work on tough or thick meat nor would one expect it to (duh! that's why we have "steak knives"!).

If you are looking for a rocker knife, this one works great.

This was one of the worst purchase decisions I have ever made. The item is poorly constructed of inferior material. Dull on arrival and bi-level blade defies sharpening. Priced way too high for something that isn't worth the package it was shipped in. Do not bother shop for an ulu or mezzaluna if you want quality.

The rocking T-knife is allowing my mother-in-law, who has use of only one hand due to ALS, the freedom and dignity to cut most of her own food. She absolutely loves it! She loves having the carrying case, also, so that she can take it with her when she goes to other family members' houses or out to eat. A wonderful product!

We purchased this after my husband had a bad injury & could not use his left hand/arm. We were introduced to this during PT rehab. I actually use this more or as much as he does. It's great for all kinds of cutting...we love it & have more than one. We take it with us when we go out to eat.

Knife Sharpner

Knife SharpnerHave been using the Ecko knife sharpener for years. Wanted to get the same thing for my kids and a few friends. Checked literally every kitchen aid store, big box store kitchen department for this item and it just couldn't be found. I believe in this product, it works, and its economical. They don't make them like this anymore but want you to buy more expensive, less capable products. Highly recommend for anyone who is looking for a low priced, effective, knife sharpener.

I've had one of these ekco knife sharpeners for years and they work fantastic. I've been searching and searching for a new one and was so excited to find it on amazon.

I have had this kind of sharpener before, and it was wonderful, I lost the last one that I had in a move. I ordered this from Amazon, and tried to sharpen a dull knife, it did nothing. It did not sharpen the knife. No matter hard I tried, it would NOT sharpen the knife. if anything the knife is duller than it was before I started. Please avoid this product, I would send it back, but It isn't worth the effort.
