Stelton EM77 Vacuum Jug, 33.8 oz, red

Stelton EM77 Vacuum Jug, 33.8 oz, redThis is nothing short of beautiful. I own 3 of them, two large and one small, all in Stainless Steel.

The carafe is easy to use, and you can even fit most conventional plastic filters over the spout to make coffee right in the pot. I bought my coffee filter, along with the carafe in Denmark, but I think you can use the Alfi Aroma 3-Part Coffee Filter that should fit. The construction is solid -this will hold up for years. My Danish in-laws use their Stelton pot daily and have had it for many, many years. The Stainless Steel is brushed, and not the cheap kind you get in some other carafes. This is high quality stainless -durable and beautiful.

The only criticism about the carafe is that the it does not keep hot liquids as long as I would expect -after an hour or so, that piping hot coffee is no longer piping hot. I did use it everyday for years, but then decided on a carafe that is better insulated (Bodum). I still use the Stelton -mostly when entertaining. It's a beautiful carafe -traditional minimalist Danish design at its best. It's among the permanent collection at the Museum of Modern Art in Manhattan.

I use my Stelton to make pots of tea. It stays piping hot for hours and is economical (one tea bag per pot). Love the design and nice red color.

Chroma KTB1 Kasumi 7-3/4-Inch Titanium-Coated Chef's Knife

Chroma KTB1 Kasumi 7-3/4-Inch Titanium-Coated Chef's KnifeMy husband actually bought me a smaller Kasumi knife as a Christmas gift. It is only about 5" but it has a blade shape of a chef's knife, so a review under this knife seems to be the best fit. And I felt the need to review it since I am so attached--one could even say loyal to it. First of all, I had no idea that these Kasumi knives were so expensive. So I had no bias. We have some decent heavy German (Wusthof) knives that are good quality, so I didn't even understand why my husband bought me a knife. I didn't use it much at first, but slowly over time I started reaching for it. Eventually I noticed it was the only one I reached for. I asked myself why and realized it is because it is strong and sharp, but most of all it is LIGHT and fits my hand so comfortably. I would however like a bigger knife as well, and I'm telling you I am eyeing this one. I wish it weren't so expensive or I would have bought it already!

Pretty and functional. Great knife, though did not come as sharp as I was lead to believe.

Calphalon Contemporary Stainless-Steel 6-Inch Utility Knife

Calphalon Contemporary Stainless-Steel 6-Inch Utility KnifeI want to start off by saying that any review is relative to the consumers past experience. Before getting this knife I was working from a cheap knife set so I won't profess that my opinion is going to be relevant when compared to other high quality knives. For me the price was great and after using it I really appreciate how crappy the knives in my old set are. It's amazing how much more enjoyable cooking is when you have quality tools. So, if you're upgrading from a crappy set of knives you won't be disappointed. If you already have a good set of knives and you're looking to replace one of them with this please read another review.

Rada Cutlery Bagel Knife, Aluminum Handle, Made in USAI original bought these knives as a gift and kept one for myself. They perform great for rolls and bagels and I have found myself reaching for this knife in place of my trusty serrated knife. And the price was great.

We have staff meetings at which bagels are available, but, alas, only plastic knives. We got these. No more broken knifes and badly cut bagels. Yeah!

Proteak Teak Cutting Board Circle Edge Grain

Proteak Teak Cutting Board Circle 12-by-1-Inch Edge GrainThis round laminated teak cutting board looked great at first, but a few weeks

after oiling the board it separated at 2 of the lamination joints. Used a table

saw to salvage 2 smaller rectangular boards.

This cutting board is very well made and can take the abuse I give it everyday when I cook dinner. The wood pattern is also very nice to look at and dresses up any kitchen counter. Cleans up perfectly just using water. I am sure this cutting board will be able to go the distance.

I got this cutting board as a gift in 2008. I was teaching cooking classes at the time, so needless to say, it got a lot of use. It lives on my kitchen island and gets used everyday. It has held up beautifully and looks as good as it did on day one! Go Proteak!

I get compliments on this cutting board all the time (of course, I leave it sitting on the island to show it off). What's cool is that I like to tell people about it, because it's sustainable. I'm a bit of a knife junkie as well, and my knives have been a lot happier now than my previous bamboo cutting board.

Want Proteak Teak Cutting Board Circle Edge Grain Discount?

I decided to get this cutting board as it looks so much like the ones used on the Food Network by all of the chefs. Although this one is round and theirs are rectangular, I like the round one better on my counter. The end grain Teak is so cool in it's display of grain and feature. Slicing, chopping, cutting, all with SHARP knives and no scars to be seen. Plus my knives are happy and seem to be staying sharper than when used against a plastic cutting board. I don't think I am going to use this for cutting/serving meat as I don't want to worry about having to sterilize, I'll stick to my plastic boards and the dishwasher, but for everything else, this one is doing the trick!

Miyako 4' Ceramic Paring Knife, Glossy WhiteI bought this knife for my daughter and at first was disappointed because the blade is wider than I wanted. I love a thin, sharp knife! But, I find myself choosing it to cut lemons, apples, etc, so it obviously is not a problem. The only thing I might change is the white blade color because it is getting stained. It is also pricey.

A few quick 22 degree passes on this baby and my knives cut tomatoes like butter. I am very pleased with this sharpener. It takes some getting used to. It is wider than a normal steel and because of the diamond surface, the knife drags a little when sharpening. However, it takes fewer passes than a traditional steel to get the same edge. So in the end, it's more efficient.

I picked these knives up to replace another somewhat inexpensive set that I've had for years. I wasn't sure if I'd like the serrated edge as I've found that this just normally tears the food instead of cutting it. These knives however are incredibly sharp and the serrated edge works well without tearing your food to shreds.

They are pretty basic in terms of construction but I don't feel as though that will be an issue with longevity. They're also fairly light in your hand but again, I don't think it really has a negative affect on the product.

If you're looking for a basic set of steak knives, I think you'd be hard pressed to find another set that work as well as these for the money.

Wusthof Silverpoint II 8-Inch Bread Knife

Wusthof Silverpoint II 8-Inch Bread KnifeEvery kitchen needs a knife dedicated to breads only so that the blades stay true. I have had a few bread knives and this Wusthof is a bargain for an inexpensive knife. Great kitchen basic investment and knife for a gift!

I use it for bread and tomatoes. Oh, and lemons and limes. It's pretty sharp and a good cutter for the price. Not heavy or fancy but I really don't think it matters here; It's not the prettiest girl at the dance, just a better than average bread knife.

Great deal on a fantastic product. Works well, sturdy, light, durable, easy to clean. I'd recommend this to anyone looking for an affordable, good-quality bread knife.

Want Wusthof Silverpoint II 8-Inch Bread Knife Discount?

After using a cheap dollar store bread knife for years and being unable to slice a piece of garlic bread without ruining the entire loaf I decided it was time to purchase something a little more expensive. Earlier in the year I'd had the wonderful opportunity to review a complete set of Wusthof knives from Amazon and they impressed me so much that I knew what brand of knife my next bread knife would be.

Now, I'm not one to spend hundreds of dollars on a single knife, so I looked for the cheapest Wusthof bread knife I could find; and this was it.

It's a beautifully manufactured piece that is ideal for cutting bread. It gets the bread sliced the first time, every time, yet you still need to start with the tip of the knife to begin cutting. Carved from high-carbon no-stain steel, this knife holds a sharp edge that makes cutting through anything a breeze.

The grip is solid and comfortable and doesn't pose any slip issues.

If you're on a budget but need a bread knife I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this one.

Zwilling J.A. Henckels Twin Four Star II 11-Piece Knife Set with Block

Zwilling J.A. Henckels Twin Four Star II 11-Piece Knife Set with BlockThese knives are amazing--everything I hoped for. All the knives you need, nice weight, VERY sharp, sleek looking.

My only complaint has to do with the knife block, which is not customized for the knife set. The knives all fit in the knife-block slots, but they fit loosely and sit at odd angles. Also, the knife block only has 6 slots for steak knives. This was a problem when I bought the matching steak knives, because they are sold in sets of 4, so you either have 2 too few or 2 too many for the number of slots. A small thing with such a good set of knives, but I will be buying another Henckels knife block.

I've been meaning to update my kitchen knives for many years. Finally, thanks to those nice people at Ideara, I had enough gift vouchers to buy this set. I've only had them for a few weeks but love them. First, they are sharp I know volunteer to do the vegetables and other prep in the kitchen. They also feel good, with a great balance which makes them all the more useful. I am hoping that these will be the last knives I ever buy! I recommend them highly.

from amazon's own descriptions stated "Also includes kitchen shears, 9-inch sharpening steel, and hardwood block with slots for steak knives"

as soon as I opened the box, I noticed something wrong. the block is made of bamboo and in thin, loose plastic bag with a knot loosely tight. the bag has the "made in china" sticker. Amazon just lied to me to see this product. I don't even want to guess if these knives are actually made in Germany. the knives box was prepared in a sloppy manner. the lid of the box not even close proper. for $499 knives set, I think I have the right to expect better quality. I am suspecting the knives are made in china as well. this whole order is going back to Amazon.

I am speaking with Amazon customer service representative and this product is sold by a vendor (third party) not Amazon. it sold through a Amazon. This looks like something someone bought and used and didn't like. they re-packed and resold as new product through Amazon to trick buyers to think this is a new product. this ia biggest false advertising so buyers beware.

I ordered the Four Star II wanting to greatly improve my kitchen knives. The knives were nice however the block was poorly made. I compared the same block with a local retailer and their block was far superior. One slot in the block was at an angle that the knife would not fit. Given my disappointment, I purchased Wustof Classic Icon and found the manufacturing and overall quality to be superior. I am thankful for Amazon in their handling of the entire process.

Mikasa Cocoa Blossom 18/10 65-Piece Flatware Set

Mikasa Cocoa Blossom 18/10 65-Piece Flatware SetI had been thinking about replacing my older stainless set as spoons seemed to disappear when my grandbabies appeared. This flatware has a nice weight to it and it has a sleek enough design to make it almost seem formal. I finally made up my mind to buy it when I found this set for such an incredible price (not at Amazon unfortunately as I love to buy from them), I bought 2. You won't go wrong or be sorry with this product! Always buy the 18/10. The 18/0 will eventually lose it's shine and become very drab.

After buying several flatware sets in many different places, I was very discouraged. I read the reviews from others on the Mikasa Cocoa Blossom and thought I will give this one last try. I was very pleased when I took it out of the packaging as it has a very nice weight to it, as you would expect from 18/10 quality. Beautiful detailed design on the handles, high polished finish and washes up nicely in the dishwasher. In fine print it has MIKASA on every piece. The only con is that it is larger then any other flatware set I've ever owned. I bought it for everyday use and have used it for about 2 months now. I'm pleased!

I researched flatware before purchasing this. The 18/10 metal content was recommended. I was looking for a scroll pattern. This wasn't as scroll-y as I would have liked, but it is still very attractive. I love that it is super shiny. The weight is perfect, the size of the pieces good. Because it's European size, which is what is sold now, the salad fork is big enough for everyday use, and the regular fork gets less use. But I am very happy with this purchase. Amazon gave the best price when I searched, even better than Macy's with a discount. It had been 20 years since I had bought silverware and I am delighted with my Mikasa.

Finish is exactly what you'd expect from a name like Mikasa. I especially like the tips on the fork tines too often the tips of tines are flat, making the fork difficult to use, but these are just right. Spoons and knives are also just the right weight and are comfortable to use. Very pleased with this set.

Global G-48 - 7 inch, 18cm Santoku Hollow Ground Knife

Global G-48 - 7 inch, 18cm Santoku Hollow Ground KnifeI've had this knife for a few weeks now, and it has made chopping onions, peppers, and fresh herbs (my main digs) an absolute pleasure. It glides through everything that I put under it. I hone the knife every time I take it out of the drawer, and it's still as sharp as the day I got it. I'm planning on a professional sharpening after about six months of use, considering how much I use it.

***Fair warning-this review contains a description of an injury sustained while cooking. If you stop here, though, just know that this knife is FANTASTIC.***

About a week and a half ago, I was slicing an onion parallel to the cutting board (for a fine dice) and I underestimated its sharpness-I put a little to much pressure behind it, and it slipped into my finger, including quite a bit of fingernail. Ouch. The cutting, however, was still brilliantly sharp. When I went to the emergency room, the nurse and attending both commented on the cleanness of the cut and asked me what kind of knife it was. I told them, and they both seemed impressed. I figure those are some professionals who know the work of a good blade when they see it.

Highly recommended--just don't underestimate it. This blade deserves your respect.

I don't know why the others -including other hollow-ground santokus -are still in the house. They don't get any use anymore; this is not an exaggeration. The edge this holds is phenomenal. It requires a touch up in the sharpener far less often and, after weeks at a time of heavy use, it still out-performs anything else freshly sharpened. And no other knife has been this easy to hold onto; the "dimpled" grip simply does not allow for any slipping around.

The result of all this is that this ordinary middle-aged, middling cook has seen her knife skills increase to a level I never thought possible. I have always viewed chopping, dicing, slicing, and anything else that required me to pick up a knife as a particular kind of dangerous drudgery. No more. Where formerly I hauled a larger or smaller food processor out to handle things, I now confidently and happily pick up this knife, including for cups and cups at a time of finely diced vegetables. It has literally revolutionized the way I feel about food preparation. I use it seven days a week to prep for at least one meal a day.

And the thing is just lovely to look at. It is a beautiful object, one that makes me happy that I have a magnetic bar to display it.

One cautionary note: I agree with a previous reviewer that food does not seem much less likely to stick to the hollow-ground blade than to ordinary blade. But I absolutely love this knife and that is why, even with this caveat, it gets five big gold stars from me.

Buy Global G-48 - 7 inch, 18cm Santoku Hollow Ground Knife Now

Just a warning, this review will contain some graphical descriptions of injuries. Definitely not for the squeamish people.

The knife may have some additional desires, but overall, it's the best set you can sink your teeth into, and of course, blow a few hundreds on. I paid a total of $90 at Bed Bath and Beyond, but worth every penny. Here's why:

Looks and Feel:

To most people, a knife is just a knife. To those who actually use knives on a daily basis, a knife is a blade designed for specific tasks, and not any knife will act as a universal knife for all tasks. The full one-piece blade-to-handle is the exact type of knife that one should look into. A knife with an attached wooden or plastic handle will cause stickiness, deterioration, and sanitary issues later down the road. I know first hand, since I have a drawer full of knife types. The way the knives are made, the handle actually balance with the blade when you place the middle finger into the groove, and start cutting. The proper cutting technique is placing the middle finger in the groove (the bolster), while the thumb and index fingers' tips are place on each side body of the knife for stability during quick action chopping. The balance is slightly off if you just attempt to balance the knives on your index finger just being curious. When you cut, take a notice of your fingers, palm, and wrist strains. Too much pressure on your thumb and middle finger, the handle is too heavy. Too much focus on your palm's heel, the blade is too heavy. Either will cause a bit of a wrist strain after 5 minutes of cutting.

But these knives are perfectly balanced, and eliminating the strains. The handle is excellent in so many way. The dimples actually created slight suction if you wet your hand with warm water, while maintaining the handle clean from oily and meat fluids. Once there's an oily film on the handle, no knife's handle will maintain the proper grip.

The blade:

7-inch Santoku is perfect for big person like me. I have large hands, and need additional cutting length, so the 7-inch is the perfect cutlery tool for me. The hollow ground doesn't prevent the foods from sticking onto the blade, but the sharpness of the blade will slice through pretty much all your meats (from frozen to a pile of pounded glob), veggies (hard like jamaca and hard shell veggies or ultra soft like over ripen tomatoes), to breads. Once slice, one cut, straight through without rough edges. Carelessness will cause you your fingers. It claimed my left middle finger's nail and meaty tip, cut through my ring finger's blood vessel, my wife's middle and index finger's blood vessels, my friend's middle finger's tip, my wife's mom pinky finger's blood vessel. Let's just say that the knife made its mark on our bones. That's how sharp the blade is right out of the box.

The durability and sharpness:

The knives are truly durable in all ways, but the cutting edges are not. You can drop it, toss, bang it, and pound it to the wood or plastic surface as you can all you want, the knives don't get any dent, bent, or ding. But, the cutting edge, honed at 15 degree, will get damaged if you slam it into bones, hard ceramic surfaces, metal, or any thing hard. I don't think any fine cutlery can stand up to such an abuse. Gentle sliding from front of the blade to the back will cut through pretty much everything, without requiring brute force to chop off your foods. Right out of the box, if you take care of of your blades properly during your days of food prepping, the blades will continue to have the sharpness up to 6 months. You'll notice a decrease of sharpness after the 6 months. If you're continuously cutting through frozen foods, especially meat, you'll notice the sharpness will start to decrease after two months of usages. The sharp edge of the knife will have misalignment, and the uniform edge will now have small imperfect warps. This is where a sharpening steel comes into play. Get a good steel like The Ultimate Edge Model 10NSS Stainless-Steel Handle Diamond Sharpening Steel (600 grit) or the cheaper The Ultimate Edge Model 10W Gourmet 10-Inch Oval Diamond Sharpening Steel (1800 grit people!). After a few sessions with frozen foods, use the steel to realign and sharpen the blade back up. Try to use it after every session, and you'll continue to keep the blades extremely sharp. Otherwise, if you keep neglecting to maintain your blades, you will have to purchase a honing-resharpening device, like the MinoSharp Plus or the whetstones (rough 320 grit and fine 1000 grit).

Cleaning:

The cleaning is extremely easy, after much usages. My knives with the plastic and wooden handles get so dirty and filled with food particles along the handles' edges that I have to toss them away. There's no way to clean them off without destroying the knives. Over time, around a year, the food particles and the oils forms an amber-resin like stain around the handles, disallowing any stain removal agent to get rid of them. The Global's one piece blades remove that issue. The cleaning only requires warm to hot water, and a soapy sponge. How easy is that? I have this set for over year now, and no stain what so ever. If there's caramel or sticky substance on it, run it under hot water for 30 seconds, then clean the entire knife with a hot soapy sponge, and it becomes like new again. Can't even find a bad thing to say about this. Small opinions here and there, but this is the first set of knives I could not find any bad to say.

I own many of the best rated kitchen knifes, whether they be made in France, Germany or Japan. This however, is the best most fun knife I've yet to purchase. It is very sharp, the angle is fabulous and it feels perfectly designed for standing and doing a lot of knife work. The weight is just the best for me. I find myself using this knife instead of most of the others, even when a smaller or larger one is called for. In time, I hope to replace all of the others with other Global knifes. The price offered at Amazon beat every other source I checked out.

I was in the market for a 6 to 7 inch hollow ground santoku...my budget was $100 or less. I narrowed it down to 2 knives: the global and the mac. I loved both but I liked how the global was all stainless and i liked how it felt.

I actually have the Kitchenaid Santoku which was around $17. It cuts nicely, but the global is oh so much sharper and just feels so much better.

Unlike the other reviewer, it does NOT feel slippery to me....i love the grip i love how it feels and it slices/chops/dieces like a DREAM.

Seriously though you have to have some respect for this knife. It is incredibly sharp so please be careful. You will wonder how long you were able to survive w/out it and it will make chopping onions...herbs....veggies etc. seem like you are cutting into butter. It is just so smooth and it is a complete joy to use this knife. i LOVE this knife.

Messermeister 5-Pocket Padded Knife Roll, Olive

Messermeister 5-Pocket Padded Knife Roll, OliveI'm a line cook who works in French restaurants where everything is made from scratch. I use a lot of hand kitchen tools. At my previous job, I needed a well-stocked knife roll. But at my new job, most everything I need is in the kitchen so I didn't like bringing my massive 10 pocket knife bag to work when I only need my 10" Chef's knife, 8" Santoku, Boning knife, paring knife, a couple of my favorite spoons and a ceramic honing rod. All fit with room to spare in the new, smaller knife roll. It's lightweight and opens like a book, so it's quick to open and grab what I need and doesn't require much room at all. Most of the time, I don't even lay it on a table to open it. I keep it wedged between the wall and a speed rack near my station. I do use plastic and magnetic sheaths on my knives while in the roll. It slips easily into my small messenger bag when I ride my bike to work.

Spectrum 46110 Scroll Silverware Caddy, BlackMy kitchen has no drawers so I hoped this would be an easy way to store my silverware on the counter. The holder is very pretty, not too big, and does hold a good amount of silverware. However, the tines of the forks got stuck in the wire mesh bottom, the silverware would slide out the sides between those open slits, and the interior dividers weren't large enough to keep the silverware nicely compartmentalized. I think this is a better product for parties, but for day to day use I found it didn't fit my needs.

This caddy is much cuter in person. It is not too big and not too little and is quite charming. Love it! So will you!

The opening of the sides are too wide for small spoons to fall out but it is cute looking in the kitchen

It looks nice, but it doesn't work. If you try to pick it up, the silverware falls through the holes at the bottom. Also, the sections are not separated sufficiently to keep the forks separate from the knives and so forth.

This was ok....It was smaller than I expected...It still serves the purpose, but just not as functional as I expected it to be
