Dexter-Russell V-LO 3.5-Inch Carbon Steel Parer
I bought this knife for its carbon steel blade, which should retain its sharpness better than stainless steel knives. The knife arrived with a very sharp blade; its handle is a comfortable shape. However, the knife is very light in weight, which makes it feel unsubstantial. I admit that, because it's a paring knife, functionally it probably doesn't need to be heavier. Still, I'd perceive the Dexter-Russell as a higher quality tool if it had more heft.In fairness I should include also my wife's opinion: "I love the knife--it's so sharp." She notices the light weight, but it doesn't bother her.
DEBBIE MEYER'S Kake-Kut'r Trio - Ivory Handles
I saw the Kake-Kut'r in a product review many years ago and have wanted one ever since. I hosted a two cake event for the Fourth of July and finally got around to buying this set in order to keep the buffet line moving. Wow--am I ever impressed!First of all, the Kake-Kut'r eliminates that awkward situation of having to touch somebody's cake in order to get it on their plate in one piece. (Or trying to manipulate it with serving utensils in both hands--a skill which most of us lack.) You simply slice, gently squeeze the handle, and place it on the plate. If you need to serve a crowd, this thing will help you move people through the line FAST.
Secondly, it does away with the "How big of a piece do you want?" negotiations that always seem to accompany cake service. This much? Is that too much? You want more than that? Yikes, I hate that. And hand carving custom sized pieces also tends to make the cutting lines go jagged and uneven.
This set comes with three servers, one each for rectangle, square, and wedge shaped servings. The ivory style handles dress the pieces up just a little, so they look right at home next to an elegant cake.
Almost every guest that came through the line commented on how impressed they were with my Kake-Kut'r, and I was surprised that none of them had seen one before. I plan to buy several sets to keep on hand as hostess gifts, thank you gifts, etc. Just when I thought I owned every conceivable kitchen gadget, I found one more I can't live without!
Gorgeous Grey Marble Cheese Board & Knife by RSVP
This is an elegant looking cheese board, hence why I ordered it.But I wouldn't reccommend it for these two reasons:
the knife that comes with it easily scratches the marble. This happened both times I've used the cheese board.
it has threet small "legs" on the bottom that when you try cutting cheese don't balance well. The board has tipped over a few times when guests have tried cutting a piece of cheese.
I've gone back to using my older/sturdier wooden cheese board.
This may work well if you already cut up the cheese and use it that way? This cheese board is great. It is not real heavy and doesn"t take up much room. Fits nicely on a small table or a small island leaving room for other things.
Wilton Dough Scraper
Great pastry/dough scraper!! I have looked and looked in the stores for the Wilton pastry scraper to use on my silcone pastry mat. I found it here at Amazon. Just the right size for scraping the silcone mat clean of dough without harming the mat. Also great for scoring of scones before bakingThis is a great tool for handling bread doughs for those who use a Roulpat or similar non mar resistant work surface, since it doesn't harm such surfaces and works perfectly well to shape and/or cut dough. It is a nice weight and has a good ergonomic feel as well. Its "blade" is too thick to cleanly slice cinnamon rolls, however.I use this when making no-knead bread great tool for bread bakers! I recommend it for anyone who enjoys baking like I do.I purchased this scrapper in hopes it would take the place of my metal one. I found it works well in cutting dough but the blade is not stiff enough to scrape the flour off my maple top pastry table.Very sturdy and efficient at doing just what it's supposed to do....scrape! I used it while making a yeast dough and needed to get it out of the bowl...glad I bought it :)Kuhn Rikon Colori Art Paring Knife, Black Plaid/Damask/Polka Dot, Set of 3
These knives are not only cute, but super useful! They are very sharp and cut beautifully! I was very impressed and at that price it's almost a steal! These knives are adorable--great for a cheese board at parties because the cheese does not stick to the blade. Beware, they are ridiculously sharp. I bought 2 sets: one for me and one for a friend.Buy Kuhn Rikon Colori Art Paring Knife, Black Plaid/Damask/Polka Dot, Set of 3 Now
Sabatier 10 Inch Forged Stainless Chef Knife made in France
About 35 years ago my Dad gave me a 10" Stainless Sabatier Chef knife. I have been using it ever since and it is my go to kitchen knife. I like the relatively straight edge on the blade which is great for slicing. (If you like to rock your knife on the curve of the blade when chopping you might consider a different style of chef knife.) I also have a couple of smaller Sabatier chef knives made from high carbon steel which is the more common steel for Sabatier knives and which is preferred by many. I use these much less frequently partly because I like the 10" size better and partly because of the increased care they require because they are not stainless. They must be carefully dried after each use or they rust. Because they get used less, it is difficult for me to say if the high carbon steel holds a better edge then the stainless or not but I can't tell much difference in how sharp I am able to get the high carbon steel vs the stainless steel. When I am done sharpening them, they are all razor sharp.I recently bought a second home and I bought a set of well rated but cheaper knives (Victorinox). They worked but I was badly missing my Sabatier. I purchased this knife and now my new kitchen feels like home. I've been using it for a couple of weeks now and this is a great knife which is practically identical to my other knife. If you want great quality but not great maintenance, then this stainless Sabatier is the way to go.
The seller shipped this product promptly and the price is excellent.

Cuisinart CEK-40 Electric Knife
The Cuisinart CEK-40 Electric Knife is by far the best ever, and I've used three other brands. The knife and blades store securely in the very attractive tray and the attached cord tucks away neatly behind the stand. I especially like the bread knife which works wonderfully on crusty breads. The blades slip easily into the knife handle and are just as easily removed. This is definitely a quality product and well worth the price.I am very disappointed with this product. I was carving my Thanksgiving turkey yesterday when the knife stopped working after it got hooked on bone in the wing. The motor continued to work, but the blades stopped moving. The knife has only been used 3 times, but I had to throw it out today. I opened the plastic case, and found a metal worm gear coming off the motor shaft, and a cheap nylon gear attached to it to move the blades back and forth. The nylon gear was stripped and the knife was useless. My prior knife, much less expensive, lasted for 18 years. The Cuisinart knife is not well made and only works well when it is not under any stress.Buy Cuisinart CEK-40 Electric Knife Now
I bought this knife and wanted to use it to carve up a roasted pig for a luau party I was having. The knife was a little under powered, it seemed to struggle when cutting larger slices. The pig was quite large (60 lbs) and after about 20 minutes of continuous use the knife became quite warm and stopped working. After a few choice explectives I handed it to my husband. Lucky for me my husband is a mechanical engineer who owns his own business which includes a metal working machine shop. Later that week he took it apart and discovered that there is a very fragile plastic Nylon gear that is part of the main drive. The plastic teeth on the gear were stripped and that is why the knife stopped working. He told me he did a few quick gear calculations (he is a smart fellow) and determined that the plastic nylon gear teeth strength was way underpowered for the design. He was able to make a duplicate gear out of stainless steel in his machine shop and assembled the new metal gear into the knife replacing the junk plastic one. Since that time the knife has worked flawless. I have since carved all sorts of roasts, pork, turkeys and no matter how long or hard the carving is, even if I hit a bone, it never stopped working. The Cuisinart engineers should be embarrased, this is such an easy fix to make (all they need to do is change out the Plastic nylon gear for a metal one, maybe cost them an extra 10 cents?), it is like they never did any research and developement on this product because I know if they tried to cut anything other then bread the dam knife would stop working after about 10 minutes of use. I would say that all the good reviews here are from people slicing bread, if you want to slice meat and use the knife for more then 10 minutes you will need to find an engineer and a machine shop to replace the plastic gear, after that it works great.Read Best Reviews of Cuisinart CEK-40 Electric Knife Here
I bought this knife in November after reading the reviews here. I feed my large breed dog a "raw meaty bone" diet and wanted a reliable knife to cut pork shoulders and other large pieces of meat. This knife exceeded my expectations. Worked so great on the Thanksgiving turkey (not for the dog), that I bought three more as Christmas gifts. It does make a peculiar burning smell for the first hour or so of use, and my wooden knife holder was thrown out after the third use. It rests in the drawer just fine with the other larger utensils.
I highly recommend this knife.First of all, this knife is underpowered. It bogs down easily and the blades feel reluctant to slice into anything. But there is also a fatal design flaw. The internal mechanism of this knife uses a stainless steel worm gear to drive a nylon circular gear which in turn drives the blades. The second time I used the knife (on Thanksgiving) the blades siezed up on a piece of turkey bone. The nylon gear ceased turning because of that but the worm gear continued to spin. I took it apart to see why the knife blades no longer moved even though the motor whirred away. Result? The nylon gear is stripped and the knife is irreparably dead. It isn't that hard to design a mechanism with a safety cutout to separate the gears if one stops rotating (or alternatively, to build both gears out of stainless steel) and given the fact that this is by far the most expensive electric knife there is, Cuisinart certainly should have been able to do so. A knife that disintegrates as soon as it hits something tough is worthless junk. This one cost me $25 per cut.
Victorinox Oyster Knife 3-Inch Narrow Boston Style Blade, Red SuperGrip Handle
I broke the tip off of it, but I think that's more down to the oyster I was working with than the knife itself. The tip of the blade chipped badly after only about 6 oysters. J.A. Henckels International Eversharp Pro 5-Inch Stainless-Steel Utility Knife
Whenever my husband and I are in the kitchen together preparing dinner, one of us waits until the other is finished cutting to use this knife. It slices through tomatoes without ruining them. We use it for cutting everything.I sometimes wonder if these reviews are all about the same item. This serrated knife is great. It isnt like it was $100 so while you cant expect $100 value in a $9 knife, I think it is worth 3x the price. I love serrated knives for some reason. I read some reviews and saw someone say they could cut veges thin with it. I have to think she was using a different product because I have zero problem cutting things to a transparent thickness. I actually love it for cheese. I also love it for meats. I hate those little steak knives that come with the sets. At least this one feels like you have something in your hand and it gives you great leverege or however you spell that word. I use it for everything from cutting a tomato to cutting rolls and meats and cheeses. I actually liked it so much that I just bought more of them. I dont see how the tip breaks off like a couple people said. I do clean mine by hand and dont put it in the dishwasher but I dont see how that should matter. I never had a very expensive serrated knife and now I dont see why I would ever need one. I would just as soon buy another one for the lousy $9 if something happened to the ones I have. These reviews make it so tough to rely on as I am looking for something in a different area and things have 300 5 star reviews and than 10 people give the product 1 star and it throws off your thinking. It makes it very tough to buy things based on reviews. Not many things have all 5 star reviews, if any. So when every product has both 5 star and 1 star reviews, you have to wonder if they are talking about the same product. Not counting the broken out of the box problems because I suppose that can happen. Oh well! I think this knife is fabulous especially for the priceBuy J.A. Henckels International Eversharp Pro 5-Inch Stainless-Steel Utility Knife Now
It's hard to go wrong with any Henckels knife. That said, I read other reviews and thought that this knife would be an improvement for cutting vegetables for my salads. Wrong. The serrated blade tends to shred mushrooms rather than cut them thinly, and my tomatoes, also fairly soft, get mushy in the cutting. So, for softer items, this knife loses a star with me. On the other hand, it slices firmer items just fine, such as bread, sandwiches, meats, onions and celery and semi-ripe avocados. Again, though, I had no luck slicing anything thinly with this knife. Here is information from the tag which is helpful: (1) micro-serrated edge; (2) heavy weight stamped; (3) triple riveted handles with stainless rivets; (4) fully visible tang construction; (5) breakproof, dishwasher safe (handwashing recommended); (6) made in Thailand; (7) contour black polypropylene handle and (8) fully guaranteed against defects in material and/or craftsmanship. The label also includes a website if you have other questions. I like the weight of the knife in general, and the handle is substantial, balanced and easy on my hand.In the event that there are any material problems with the knife, I know from personal experience that Henckels has a terrific guarantee. I recently contacted them about a paring knife that was over 25 years old with a bent blade. I mailed the knife back to Henckels, and they sent me a new knife; all I paid was the cost of the postage back to them; they gave me the new knife and paid the postage back. So, I already know that if this knife does not hold up over time, Henckels will stand behind their product. This is my 2nd one of this specific knife.
I bought a second because it is the ONE knife I use for almost all my cutting and prepping.
Interestingly, my first one I purchased about 7 yrs back was from Japan.
I have never had to resharpen this knife. EVER!
This one is from China. I tried to compare and find a flaw but the knife is perfect.
Super sharp and extremely well balanced in the hand.
Japan vs. China.... I don't see any difference.
They must still be following the Henckel manufacturer's strict specifications.
I would recommend this to any intermediate and professional chef.
It is very sharp and unforgiving for a very beginner cook so be careful.

Toastmaster 2247 Electric Can Opener with Soft Touch Handle
This is a very nice and affordable can opener. It is small enough to tuck out of the way when it's not in use, which is great for a small kitchen. Since it is tall, you can even open the 'family size' cans.**TIP**
Still keep a hand can opener around if the power is out. This low-end can opener is practically useless. 90% of the time it fails to operate completely, opening a portion of the can and then stopping. I paid $14.00 for it... and it's worth about ... well, it's not worth anything actually. I would NOT recommend this horrible can opener. I'd prefer using a nail and a hammer over this thing!

Here are the problems I had. It cuts out after 1/4 inch of cutting. I constantly had to reset the can and try over and over. I had to hold the can on it. It wouldn't take the smaller cans. It lets go of cans. More than once tomato sauce ended up on the counter and floor. It falls over. I threw it back in the box and gave it to charity. It is not worth a penny. I would recommend that you not purchase it. Check out the Black and Decker rechargable canopener on amazon. I bought one and just love it. Amazon shouldn't sell this toastmaster piece of crap. I will never think "what's the difference" a can opener is just a can opener again. While the price is indeed low, it simply would be nice to have an item that works! It's down right spooky there is a photo of the product depicting it holding a can of Tomato Paste. That was the first can I used it on and this can opener failed miserably to open the tiny 6oz. can. I have been cooking for forty years and have never seen anything this pityful. Who designed this?
This can opener is one for the trash heap right out of the box. For the price of it, I should have simply bought a pizza for dinner.

My husband recently purchased this opener at a local Target. I hate it!! I am a cooking enthusiast and this opener does nothing for me. It is not worth the money you will pay for it. I have attempted to use this device three times without any luck the only thing it manages to do is just pierce the can. The part that holds the can and rotates it just simple stops after you have placed the can on. The motor keeps running however the can simple will not spin. So I am now forced to purchase a new opener after only having this one for about two weeks. Do yourself a BIG favor spend a couple extra dollars and get a nicer one as I am doing.Melange Italian Villa Premium Porcelain Place Setting, Ivory
This dinnerware works perfectly for us and goes nicely with our Corelle glassware and our contemporary style stainless steel tabelware. It has a nice blend of casual, contemporary, and elegant, without being too much of any of those. The color is between pure white and actual ivory, and our Corelle pasta plates in Winter Frost go well with this set. If you are looking for "fine china," this isn't it, but you won't find any true "fine china" at this price! I think the irregularities make if feel more like hand thrown pottery and I am fine with that. It's almost like the living clay got frozen in time and one can almost sense its aliveness. Has the weight of dinnerware but the impermeability of china, which works well for us.PROS: Washes up well, looks nice on the table, and food looks very inviting against the solid white background. The raised design on the rim sets it off nicely, so one feels one is sitting down to a treat instead of just a meal. A good value for everyday use at this price.
CONS: One of the dinner plates has small black flecks in the surface and one of the salad plates has something that got into the glazing on the underside (it doesn't show when on the table), so I would not consider this "premium" quality. There is a slight waviness in the edges and design, but for me that is like a handmade look. Again, I would not call this "fine china," but it still works well for us and our casual lifestyle. The dinner plates are a little too large to allow the door on our Cuisinart 6-slice toaster oven to close completely, but using the bake setting instead of the convection setting compensates for that.
BOTTOM LINE: Good value, nice feel, and expect to get a lot of use of these!Everything we wanted. It replaces the old set we got that was getting long in tooth. It's elegant and simple.

This dinnerware is beautiful and will look classy either casual or formal event. Perfect weight, color and will look terrific with colorful side dishes.I could of rated this 4 stars due to arriving later than promised, however not the company's fault, but a carrier delay to which I was notified. Perhaps the delay caused the double shipping boxes to arrive pretty beat up, which caused one broken dinner plate. Upon unpacking I did notice a small flaw in one serving cup. To be honest I wasn't worried about the plate or cup being replaced because of previously reading the many positive reviews about the company's service level! Within hours after notifying them I received notice that they would forward an extra place setting to replace my 2 damaged pieces! This company is amazing and so is their product!! If only all companies were this caring . . . KUDOS WilliamNSonoma!,,
I did a lot of research to find the perfect dishes for our family and this set meets every criteria, and even much less than I expected to pay! The quality was above my expectation. Looking forward to loving these for many years.

Mikasa Flatware 18/10, Satin Loft 65 Piece Set
I've had Mikasa flatware before and really loved it. The Satin Loft is quite beautiful, with a highly reflective surface. It also feels very good in your hand. Unfortunately, it is slightly longer than my previous Mikasa set. In fact, it is slightly longer than any other flatware set I've owned. This makes it more challenging to fit the flatware easily in the wooden caddy I've been using for years or fitting the flatware in the dishwasher. The real problem however is how delicate the silverware is in response to water. Even the included care instructions warn you that "While Mikasa stainless steel is dishwasher safe, we recommend stopping the cycle prior to drying and removing the knives; hand-drying the blades." Really? I might as well hand wash them! Which is what I now do since my first tries at a full dishwasher cycle left me with black and marred knife blades. Yet even with hand washing, you need to thoroughly dry the blades immediately to prevent marring. And it's not just the knives. Some of my spoons and forks are also showing black marks after five dishwasher runs. Keep some silverware polish handy.
There are other warnings in the care instructions as well:
"Do not allow flatware to soak...or remain unwashed."
"Dry immediately with a soft cloth to avoid spotting."
"Make sure stainless steel is completely dry before storing."
Excuse me, but I'm quite careful with my flatware. The problem here isn't me, it's Mikasa. If I wanted to go through this much trouble to keep my flatware looking good, I'd just go with actual silver and not stainless steel. No other flatware set I've had, including prior Mikasa sets, has required this much care.

A Di Alessi "Knifeforkspoon" 75-Piece Set, Includes Twelve Table Knives Monoblock and Twelve Desser
I just bought a set of mirror finish knifeforkspoon flatware, designed by Jasper Morrison for Italian housewares manufacturer Alessi, and I'm really glad I bought the set with the monobloc knives. Monobloc knives are less expensive in general because they're made of a single piece of stainless steel, as opposed to knives with thicker handles that are made separately, then into which a separate blade is set. This is done for two reasons: presumably nicer feel in the hand, and in some cases, a better, sharper, blade is attached separately. The knifeforkspoon monobloc knife looks better and feels better in your hand. It's more of a piece with the other forks and spoons in the line. I bought one placesetting earlier to see if I liked it, and I did, except for the thick regular knife handle that just never balanced in my right hand with whichever piece was in my left.
A single regular knife in this series costs $20. The monobloc costs $11. In a set this size, the difference in cost is around $300.
Jasper Morrison designed this as a nice everyday set of flatware that you can also use in a more elegant setting. I use Metlox Colorstax as my everyday dishes, and have a set of Thomas O'Brien's Tiago Blue, a glossy navy porcelain with double concentric platinum rings. knifeforkspoon goes with each set of dinnerware very nicely. Next I'm going to get some of Ellen Chilewich's placemats and napkins.
This would make a terrific present for the modern lover in your life.

Only down side is its made of plastic, so look cheapbut everything else is prety goodBought a few sets of these as gifts and everyone loved them.
Plus: Appear to be pretty sturdy and put together well. Lots of accessories and nice case for the price
Negs: Difficult to get items back into the container, plastic molds seem to be very tight for a number of the items. Had a few people give me some "feedback" on the gift and felt the handles on the skewers were not all that well

Only used a couple of times so far. Appear to be well made. Also like their one piece construction. Like the handles; comfortable to use. Cheeses do not stick to blades like a regular knife does. Would recommend.Cheese knives are essential for several reasons: cutting efficiently through hard cheddars and tommes, and slicing soft cheeses like camembert and brie without crushing them. This set gives you a knife for each one of those tasks -the squarish one for cheddars and curve one for bries. The quality is fine on these. They are not super high-end stainless like, say, Wusthof knives ... but they are also reasonably priced. The stainless looks good and has held up well through a party, several other uses, and multiple times in the dishwasher.
If you want a functional set of cheese knives, these work fine. I'd also suggest pairing them with a slate cheese board, which not only looks great but is nice for helping the cheese maintain temperature, such as Boska Holland Slate Cheese Board, 13 Inch by 9 Inch. Cheers!

These cheese knives are very effective for cutting into a semi-soft cheese combination (several kinds of cheese, sundried tomatoes, and basil pesto that has been crafted into a mold and refrigerated overnight) and spreading it on a cracker or small piece of french bread. Some knives spread but don't cut, these knives work for both applications. They may not be fancy but when one spends time preparing a fancy cheese spread, it is rewarding to know guests won't have difficulty removing the amount they want, spreading it on a cracker/bread, and eating it.Both these knifes are working out well. I perfer the square bladed one but they both do the job. The handles are awesome! Thank you, Amazon!Want Prodyne K-7-S Stainless Steel Cheese Knives with Open Surface Blade, Set of 2 Discount?
