Montana Knife 10" Cook's Knife with White Poly Handle

Montana Knife 10' Cook's Knife with White Poly HandleGood balance, resharpens easily, fits hand nicely, great value for the price, hard to find any knives at all in this size.

This is the knife used in professional kitchens, that do a lot of good serious, unpretentious work. No frills. Great steel.

Buy Montana Knife 10" Cook's Knife with White Poly Handle Now

I just received my knife. This is a BIG knife and I have small hands, but I found it very easy to use. It feels good to cut with and it cuts easily and well. The handle feels secure. The blade is thin but does not feel flimsy at all. Supposedly the knife is dishwasher safe; I rarely use my dishwasher but I haven't ever seen a new stainless steel object emerge from a dishwasher the same as it went in. The hardness is good, hard enough to hold a fine edge but soft enough to retain some flexibility and not resist sharpening. Do not put this knife in a drawer with other knives; even if that is what you do with your knives, this knife is too big. Put it away carefully by itself or on a magnetic rack.

Vulkanus Professional Knife Sharpener

Vulkanus Professional Knife SharpenerI have been using this knife sharpener for about six years now. I first came upon it while volunteering as a chef's assistant at local culinary school. It was the chef's favorite sharpener of all the ones he sold in his kitchen store. You'll see why once you try it you never have to guess if you have the angle just right, and by changing how you place your knife in the device, you can either sharpen or hone. I hone my knife before every use and sharpen after every 6 or so uses. It's amazing. I've given it as a gift to many family members and recommend it at every opportunity! You won't be disappointed and you will never have a dull knife again unless you don't use it! ;-)

5 Ss Blade Polypropylene Knife

5 Ss Blade Polypropylene KnifeThese steak knives are large and tough. (I bought them to replace some flimsy department-store steak knives, which had a tendency to break when I used them.) These do not disappoint.

The rounded tips are a nice safety feature--I have a toddler, and although we always keep knives out of his reach, it's safer not to have pointy knives in the house at all.

I do have one complaint. The blade of a steak knife has a flat side and an angled, serrated side. On these knives, the angled side is on the left (as viewed from the top when using the knife.) I would prefer it to be on the right side. The reason is this: when cutting a piece of meat, having the angled side on the left generally means that when I try to cut, the knife twists to the right. Since I'm right-handed, I'm generally cutting on the right-hand side of the meat. Therefore, whe the knife twists to the right, I don't get a nice clean cut.

Switching the angled side to the other side of the blade would solve my problem and make this a perfect knife for me.

Or, if I were left-handed, that would solve the problem too. But alas, I'm not.

Update 2/4/2013: After owning these for about six months, the verdict is in: everybody in my family hates them. My wife thinks they're dangerous, because the twisting action makes them tend to slip. I'm not any sort of knife expert, but I figure that a good knife should just work. You shouldn't have to think about the knife. Not so with these: you have to think, think, think, because the large, angled blade will twist, twist, twist away from you if you don't pay attention. So I'm going to get rid of them.

CUTCO Model 1845 Essentials Set. 4 knives & 1 fork in factory sealed plastic bags; classic dark brown handles. Your choice: Honey Oak 5-slot Model 1649 Block --- OR 10-slot Model 1651 Essentials +5 Block to add your own 5 Table Knives. We have owned Cutco steak knives, paring knives,

a Chef knive, a bread knife, a carving knife set,

and others for many, many years. I had never sent

any of them in for their free sharpening service.

The Chef knife finally got a chip on the tip, and

the special cutting edge of the steak knives was

wearing down, so I decided that it was time to

send these knives in for "repair" and sharpening.

I did have to pay shipping to send the knives there,

and $8.00 to have knives shipped back. To my delight,

Cutco decided the knives were worn enough to be replaced

with brand new knives. This was a total of 9 knives that

were replaced. Cutco truly does stand by their product for

life.

I have other family members who have owned Henckels knives,

but Henckels didn't have the special edge that Cutco has on their

steak knives and many others. My family now owns Cutco, and can't

imagine having anything else. We are sold on Cutco!

grapefruit spoon set

grapefruit spoon setThese spoons work really well for digging into grapefruit. I wouldn't say they're anything close to fine silverware, but they are pretty sturdy and I can see them lasting a long time.

For roughly $4, these spoons are a good deal. However, they were slightly flimsier than I expected, for lack of a better description. They feel kind of thin and light. However, they allow you to easily eat grapefruit, which is really all that matters. Overall, I'm happy with my purchase.

Master 2 Piece Baby Feeding Set

Master 2 Piece Baby Feeding SetWhen our daughter was around a year old, she wanted to have the same tools as daddy and mommy had at the table. We let her use a tiny baby fork and spoon my mother gave us, and then later as she grew, a baby/toddler size fork and spoon that matched our wedding silver. She's two and a half now, and uses a fork and spoon almost as well as an adult, except where strength is an issue. I bought these two pieces as part of a three piece set Reed & Barton Children's Giftware MASTER 3PC BABY MASTER 3 PC BABY SET 4771 18/10 because it's a bit of a pain to be washing the same fork between each meal, and I didn't really want to spring for sterling for pieces that will only be used for a year or two.

The fork and spoon are the same overall size as the ones that match our wedding silver, 4.5 inches long for the fork and 4.25 inches long for the spoon. These lengths are excellent for a toddler's first fork and spoon.

However, there are some issues. The bowl of the toddler spoon is a bit large for her mouth, and would have been considerably large for her when she started using a spoon; a bowl the same size as on the infant feeding spoon would be better. More importantly, the tines on the fork are blunter than on an adult fork, or on our silver toddler fork. For softer foods that are scooped up with a fork rather than speared, this isn't a problem. However, it does means that our daughter has difficulty dealing with foods that need to be speared with the fork fish or a ground steak will often fall apart, while a toddler simply isn't strong enough to push these blunter tines into a piece of regular steak or a roast.

Unfortunately, choices are limited. Sterling is rather expensive for baby ware. For older children, the Oneida children's flatware Oneida Chateau 3-Piece Child Set has a sharper fork, similar to adult forks, but that set is a bit large for a toddler. Overall this set may still be the best choice available for a toddler's first flatware, and it does make an excellent new baby gift.

I was trying to find a small fork and spoon for our 16 month old granddaughter. I had purchased a set earlier, J.I.P. Jungle Animals Cutlery Set, Stainless Steel, that was too large for her age. It was hard to find what I wanted but finally did!

Update International LMS-PP Stainless Steel Luncheon Meat Slicer

Update International LMS-PP Stainless Steel Luncheon Meat SlicerThis is a great item well built and has many uses. You can use it to evenly cut spam or canned corned beef, etc. Plus it slices mushrooms and other things as well. Would not suggest it for cheeses as you may break the cutting wires.

I purchased this item, cleaned it in the dishwasher, then used it to cut meat & cheese for a party. It functioned perfectly! I put it in the dishwasher again (I'm pretty sure nothing was touching it), and now the metal strings don't line up with the plastic slots for them anymore. If I pull the handle towards to one side I can still get it to slice, but that is rather inconvenient. I may try to bend the bars a little to make them line up again, but the metal handles are surprisingly sturdy and the metal strings seem rather flimsy so it may be difficult to get it lined up again without breaking the metal strings.

J.A. Henckels 9-by-9-Inch Cutting Board with Silicone Trivet/Pot Holder

J.A. Henckels 9-by-9-Inch Cutting Board with Silicone Trivet/Pot HolderI had to return the bamboo part of this order because it split in half the second time I used it. After returning it to the manufacturer and waiting and emailing for about 3 weeks this is the reply I finally recieved:

"When you mail something in to us, upon receipt of it, there is a 4-6 week turn around time.

Your item was found to be defective and is being replaced. This is your order number 2345938.

It is common to suggest within 3 business weeks of receipt, to then hear something."

Not even a "We are sorry for the inconvience letter" It cost me $5.00 to ship it back to them!

This is not really a cutting board, but a very high density bamboo "sandwich board" for building and cutting sandwiches and for slicing and serving cheeses, along with the best silicone hot pad I've ever seen or used.

When building a sandwich, the only time a knife hits the board is to slice the sandwich and that is just what this board is for. It is extremely convenient and it is easy to throw onto the kitchen table or counter to prep the sandwiches while the kids wait. We also take it on picnics.

The hot pad is thick enough to easily protect any delicate surface from hot pots, but it is also flexible enough that I often grab it to pull heavy pans from the oven. It also goes out to the gas grill and on picnics because I don't want to take my wife's good quilted hot gloves and hot pads outside. Obviously, this is easy to clean in the sink or even in the dishwasher.

Note that the bamboo "sandwich board" also doubles as a wooden trivet, because it is thick enough and dense enough that it doesn't scorch (I tested this ... accidentally ... and it worked great).

In short, two extremely useful, handy items for next to nothing in cost. I love it.

Zwilling J.A. Henckels Twin Signature 5-Inch Serrated Utility Knife

Zwilling J.A. Henckels Twin Signature 5-Inch Serrated Utility KnifeI own two of these for making school lunches (sandwiches, usually), they're the perfect do-everything knife. The textured edge cuts tomatoes; the blunted end gets the mayo out of the jar; they cut through the finished product without pushing all the filling off the bread.

I use this knife for many tasks from slicing tomatoes to cutting the silverskin from pork tenderloins or lamb shanks. The pointed end slips easily underneath and then the serrated side slices the silverskin off. Additionally, being so light and flexible, it's easy to work around the meat. This is one of my favorite go-to knives!

I registered for thes knives for our wedding so we would have a durable high quality set to last us for 30 years or so. They have so far exceeded my expectations. They are build very well and are extremely sharp. Although it says they are dishwasher safe I do not trust our dishwasher since we live in an apartment. These knives are well worth the money since they are quite pricey at least by my standard.

This is the 2nd one I purchased because the first one got rusty. The knife itself works well but let's wait and see if it rusts again.

Not Zwilling J.A. Henckels top of the line, but a great quality knife. For the money you can't go wrong with this selection and the Twin Signature line of knives. It will last and can be sharpened. It may cost more than other knives but think of how often you're in the kitchen using a knife. Dull knives are not safe. You get what you pay for and you won't regret buying quality knives. Plastic Medium-Weight Forks, White, Box Of 100

Plastic Medium-Weight Forks, White, Box Of 100.

Okay Tuttle-fans. I haven't really encountered too many new things to review lately, so I'm going to take you back in time for a review from the past. This incident took place back in my short-lived "gothic" period many years back. If you remember clearly it was when I had a few gothic "friends" who I believe were in a cult of evil. We listened to a lot of Marylen Mansein, which caused me to change into quite a monster sometimes. I guess you could say that this is the second most outrageous encounter I had during this phase of my life. I've gotten lots of responsed regarding the Marylin Mansin review, with people wanting to know more about my gothic-phase, so I'll give you this little occurence, just sort of as a bonus review. It's not quite as wild, but hey, what do you expect?

Anyways, back after the incident where I got into a HUGE physical altercation with my parents and my dog (Morris), I was put under lock-down for a long time up in my room. I wasn't allowed to do much of anything. Just sitting up there in solitary-comfinment like a caged-animal. This one night I came to the table for dinner, and in my place was a paper plate and plastic utensils. My parents informed me that for the safety of everyone in the house, that i not be allowed the use of any hard or sharp objects at the dinner table. I thought this was the most ridiculous thing ever and thought that surely they must be joking. But, oh no, they weren't! I was to eat off of a paper-plate and they even had for me a red, plastic cup. the same color of my fury burning from inside. I told my parents that this was completely uncalled for. I screamed about it, very loudly for only like a minute. My dad just sat there staring at me, somehow remaining calm. He very sternly told me my options. If I wanted to keep up the attitude, i would have to go back to my room and only be able to feast upon the smells of what dinner was. I didn't even really like what Mom had made. She always makes up her own recipies and is constantly working on a really stupid catalogue of alphabetized "original dishes". She has this ridiculous delusion that she will one day get them published in a book, and she will appear on Oprah or Martha Stewart. That night I clearly remember she served Corn-Chops and Turkey-Ravioli. Not my favorites. But I was reeeeeally hungry.

So anyways, I just didn't say anything and sat down and ate my stupid meal. After finishing it, I figured they couldn't make me give the food back, so i gave them a good piece of my mind. I mean, what were they going to do? Send me to bed? I already had to go back in my room anyway. I told them that i thought they were acting completely unrealistic and that i shouldn't have to be subjected to such idiotic punishments. I told them how stupid they were, and that plastic silver-wear can be just as harmful as silver silver-ware. Then, my dad went on some stupid rant about how i better act right or they might have to "put me somewhere". He wanted to send me some kind of institution or something. A completely irrational threat, given the situation. I did not appreciate his tone one bit. Not being able to hold my rage in any longer, I unleashed all my fury and tore the ends off of my plastic silverwear off with my teeth, right in front of them. I took a HUGE handful of Turkey-Ravioli and flung it at both of them. Dad leapt up immediately, but there was a table between us, so he couldn't get ahold of me. I blind-sided him with a Corn-Chop in the face as he leaned over the table. Some of the garlic-butter must have got in his eyes because he reeled back for a second, leaving mom wide open. I proceeded to mash tomato sauce and Turky-Ravioli into her hair and face. Morris started a bark-jump frenzy so I turned my attention to him.

Now don't get me wrong. This wasn't as serious as the Maralin Mansin incident, but I really wanted to teach them a lesson. No sooner did I start to go at Morris, my dad recovered and held me in a really painful arm-hold. I realized he had gotten the better of me so I simply went completely limp and just laid on the ground in a sort of silent-protest. This really seemed to work, and I just laid there until they went to bed. As I cleaned everything up the next-day as a punishment, I just sort of started to calm down and change back into the real-me in the next few weeks.

In conclusion, this was the last time I really tried to use force against my parents. Like I have mentioned before, I really out-grew this gothic-phase of mine. There were a LOT more things that happened during this time-period, but I would much rather try to keep my reviews in the current-times, and not have to relive this dark-time in my life. Hope you guys liked it. I'm not proud of it in any way, just so you know. You can still e-mail me if you want more. As for the plastic silver-ware, I'll still hold my ground and say that it is just as dangerous as the real silver kind. Maybe even more, because people might let their guard down more. Later.

John Boos 18-by-12-Inch Reversible Maple Cutting Board

John Boos 18-by-12-Inch Reversible Maple Cutting BoardI've had my cutting board for over a year now and it's performed beautifully. If you're a serious cook looking for a great cutting board that will not dull your good knives, you'll definitely enjoy this one.

My husband loves to cook. In fact, he is a very talented home chef. If he didn't have a severe heart condition, I know that he would be an active professional chef for sure. I'm so lucky to be able to eat his wonderful recipes!

So of course, since we love cooking and food, we watch a lot of cooking shows on TV. One in particular is CHOPPED. My husband recently commented that he noticed at each of the cooking stations, they had the BOOS cutting board. I believe we have even seen other BOOS cutting boards on other chef shows. We tried to figure out the dimensions of the cutting board by watching the show. Once we thought we had a pretty good idea of the size, I went online to Amazon and found and purchased the John Boos 18 x 12 inch reversible maple cutting board.

My husband loves it! It's the right size, weight, thickness. It's now his permanent side kick when he cooks.

I had read previous reviews of some people saying the cutting board feels rough and they want to sand it. My husband and I noticed that when it gets wet, that some of the wood grains do raise up and it feels a little rough, but once it dries, it's still pretty smooth. So there is nothing wrong with it. It's a natural wood product, so you should expect things like this. My husband and I give it a thumbs up! I mean if the Food Network and other food stations use the John BOOS cutting boards, then it's gotta be good, right!? Happy shopping. Panda.

Zwillilng J.A. Henckels Twin Four Star 8-Inch High Carbon Stainless-Steel Chef's Knife

Zwillilng J.A. Henckels Twin Four Star 8-Inch High Carbon Stainless-Steel Chef's KnifeThe balance on this knife is great. I use it for nearly every job. I had a cuisenart food processor and gave it away. I found I was faster with this knife, and there was less cleanup.

Previously I had a 10" chef's knife and its too long, the motion of picking up the heel of the blade meant I had to lift my arm too high. It just wasn't comfortable. The 6" seems too short, the 8" is just right.

You really only need about 3 knife styles, and this is one of them. (Bread knife, and paring knife are the other two.)

I gotta tell ya...this has been the best "out of the box" knife that I have used in a long time and I have purchased and used every FORGED 8 inch chef's knife from every line of every manufacturer listed here on Amazon. The factory edge was perfectly honed and sharp as a razor right from the get go. Usually I have to use a sharpening steel for a few strokes to reclaim the edge but not this one. Maybe I got lucky but I do love it dearly.

The 4 Star line has been around since 1976 and Henckels knows that we "Pros" love it for it's low maintenance, ease in sharpening, comfortable grip, sanitary design AND price. The blade is classic German in shape, a long, round curve for perfect rockin' and a good weight for heavier work (although in the mid to late '90s they went to a French shape and weight for some reason). This 4 Star can't be beat for dollar value.

This is my 5th one purchased in the last 23 years...the previous ones were all "stolen" by line cooks on the job...'nuf said.

I love to cook, and I've spent a lot of money on cookware. For some reason, however, I continued to buy cheap knives. I guess I always felt that the actualy cookware I was using was so important, that I didn't really understand how having such a good knife would improve things.

Then I got this knife as a gift from a friend who comes over for my cooking a lot. I couldn't believe what I'd been missing! The weight of the knife, combined with such an incredible blade makes 'slicing and dicing' one of the best parts of cooking! This blade has taken everything I've thrown at it effortlessy. I bought a Henkle sharpener to go with it, but it holds its edge so well I don't sharpen it too often.

This kinfe also looks great. Plus, with Henckel quality, you know this will last almost forever.

Pros:

-Holds an edge very, very well

-Solid and heavy makes chopping so easy

-Well balanced feels great in your had

-Henkel quality

Cons:

-I only have one! (seriously, I don't have a real con).

This knife is made of lots of good, hard steel. I've had one for the last -let's see, how long...? 10 years. And I could easily have it for another fifty; unless you're a professional chef, you're unlikely to use up the blade in a lifetime of sharpening.

Ultimately, when you choose a Henckels knife, you need to hold them, because they make three handle styles, all of which are combined with those terrific blades. They are stainless, so they don't hold an edge as well as the old-school carbon steel, but they also avoid rust that way.

You can't go wrong with this knife.
