Maxam 17pc Kitchen Tool Set

Maxam 17pc Kitchen Tool SetI bought this product based on some of the other reviews. The set looked like it had a bunch of useful items and the price was much lower that much of the other stuff out there...lesson learned. The quality of this set is horrible. The spatula melted on the 1st use. The ice cream scoop BENT first time I used it! Nothing in this set looks like it will withstand normal use.

I gave it 2 stars only because it was cheap and a couple of items (e.g. the noodle scoop) should be usable.

most of the tools work well enough for what they were intended for but they are not that sturdy, but they are about half the cost of the kitchen aid and you get more items. i'd much rather half the oxo but $75 is a far cry from $16 so there you have it. only two items seriously disappoint, the ice cream scoop is completely worthless trash and the pizza cutter is pretty flimsy, as for the items melting like another reviewer stated, any type of plastic will melt if you leave it in the pan, you are not supposed to cook them.

This is NOT a sturdy tool set! The large spatula was already cracked in half when I opened the box. The box was yellowed like it's been sitting around for a long time in a store or in too much light, so I question how old it was. It had everything I needed to use with nonstick cookware, but I returned it and ordered better (more expensive) tools. Go with Orka, Oxo or Calphalon kitchen tools and you won't be disappointed!

This set is neat, my only complaint is that they sometimes fall out of the holder and dont keep in as well as the picture looks. not a deal breaker

I give it five stars because it looks better in person and the material is strong. It seems to have more pieces that I originally thought.

Malibu Collection Peeler with 5-Inch Blue Color ABS Handle

Malibu Collection Peeler with 5-Inch Blue Color ABS HandleI have to say I am very pleasantly supprised by this peeler. I have owned very expensive peelers and this one puts them to shame. I am now looking for one that is in the same shape of my metal peelers.

Chroma KTB1 Kasumi 7-3/4-Inch Titanium-Coated Chef's Knife

Chroma KTB1 Kasumi 7-3/4-Inch Titanium-Coated Chef's KnifeMy husband actually bought me a smaller Kasumi knife as a Christmas gift. It is only about 5" but it has a blade shape of a chef's knife, so a review under this knife seems to be the best fit. And I felt the need to review it since I am so attached--one could even say loyal to it. First of all, I had no idea that these Kasumi knives were so expensive. So I had no bias. We have some decent heavy German (Wusthof) knives that are good quality, so I didn't even understand why my husband bought me a knife. I didn't use it much at first, but slowly over time I started reaching for it. Eventually I noticed it was the only one I reached for. I asked myself why and realized it is because it is strong and sharp, but most of all it is LIGHT and fits my hand so comfortably. I would however like a bigger knife as well, and I'm telling you I am eyeing this one. I wish it weren't so expensive or I would have bought it already!

Pretty and functional. Great knife, though did not come as sharp as I was lead to believe.

Rada Cutlery Granny Paring Knife, Made in USA (Pack of 2)

Rada Cutlery Granny Paring Knife Dishwasher Safe Black Handle, Made in USAI do a lot of canning from greenbeans to peaches. This knife is comfortable in my hand, super sharp, and an absolute must have. My kids have used it and it doesn't slip out of their hands. We actually fight over who gets this knife. That's why I'm ordering more.

The sharp blade is a little bit like an eagle claw and is about 2 3/4" long which works good on small to meadium size fruits and vegetables. It cuts meat without a problem. The blade thickness is a little thin and bends if you push against it with a finger. Otherwise, I would have given it a 5-star rating. The oval handle is not something I am used to but do not forsee a problem. I like that it is all metal, so when its life is over, it can be recycled. Also, I like that it is made in the USA.

Blade length was not disclosed, and I wrongly assumed it would be a more standard length similar to other 'granny' knives I have.

Knife and price would be ideal if the blade were longer. The entire knife is just too small for my hands.

Will pass them onto other family members. Disappointed, to say the least. It's not easy to find this shape knife.

The Coconut Tool Stainless Steel Coconut Meat Removal Knife

The Coconut Tool Stainless Steel Coconut Meat Removal KnifeI must admit, it is easier getting the meat out with this tool than, let's say, a knife or other sharp gadgets. However, you still need a lot of muscle using it. I would say that it took me about 5 minutes versus the advertised 60-90 seconds(very misleading) Moreover, the meat did not neatly come out in one piece. My right hand is still has some soreness trying to get the meat out with this thing.

Pretty disappointed because I paid a lot of money for it.

UPDATE TO REVIEW: 8/22/12

Purchased this in mid July, used it a few times and decided to keep it although it was not as easy to use as the description states. HOwever, I'm very upset because rust is starting to appear. I never really looked very close to the metal itself( I just assumed that it would be a very high quality metal due to the price), but there is a pin sized hole or something there and a few other places are beginning to rust. This is very shocking because I purchase quite a bit of metal kitchen gadgets and treat them about the same in terms of cleaning and maintenance. Wash after use and let air dry completely after dried. This is the only metal material that is rusting.

I wanted to return it for an exchange, but I wasn't able to because the window for a return for exchange expired 7 days ago. This is so frustrating. An item that can pose a health concern cannot be returned after 45 days?

If you love coconuts or just need to open one now-and-then or weekly as I do, THEN THIS TOOL IS FOR YOU! Let me explain: I am off of dairy and grains, so my primary "milk" is coconut or almond. All of the commercial brands have gums or other thickeners that I cannot tolerate, so I must make my own milks. My technique for making coconut milk is easy, starting with fresh whole coconuts--HOWEVER before I met the COCONUT TOOL, the best way for me to open coconuts was to put them in a 400 degree oven and wait until they cracked open, and then it was a hassle to separate the meat from the shell. The COCONUT TOOL has two winning attributes: the first is the video link that the inventor of the tool sent to me after I had purchased the tool this video showed how easy it was to crack a coconut and then how to use the tool to remove the meat. The second is how the tool has drastically reduced the time that I took to make my coconut milk. This tool really works it now takes me about 30 minutes to make milk, beginning from a hand-held coconut through blending, through the straining in a nut bag, freezing some of the milk, and filling my mason jar for refrigerator storage. I love this tool just about as much as I love my morning cinnamon or pumpkin pie or apple pie lattes NO SUGAR! I heat some fresh coconut milk in a ceramic-coated fry pan, transfer to my coffee cup, aerolate the milk to a thick foam, then add coffee down the inside of the cup and top all of this with cinnamon or pumpkin pie spice....ah, then I relax and sip the coffee through the thick milk. .... end of review gotta go brew up a batch!

Oh, the milk is great on oatmeal and easy to cook with, but you gotta get the TOOL to end once and for all the frustration of opening coconuts and removing the meat! Fun tool I like fun tools in my kitchen!

Buy The Coconut Tool Stainless Steel Coconut Meat Removal Knife Now

This curved knife is great to remove coconut flesh. I assume that the age of the coconut has to do with the ease of removing the flesh, though I don't know how you'd know the age of a coconut from the outside. It took more strength than I have to get the tool fully underneath the coconut meat and I had to ask my husband to take over thus the 4 stars. It probably would have taken me about 10 minutes on my own. I do have to say that without this knife I just wouldn't buy coconuts for the pain it is to try and get everything with other tools. It's very sturdy, not flimsy whatsoever, I feel comfortable that it won't slip out of my hands and am not scared of it cutting me. The blade has just enough sharpness to get between the husk and the meat but not enough to cut someone reaching into a drawer. Coconuts truly are a miracle food so I thank you for this product!

I first learned about this product from an online video about how to make fresh coconut milk. Since then, I always wanted to try. I personally like a lot of dishes with fresh coconuts but the task of opening one always deterred me. For me, there are 3 steps in opening a coconut. First, make two holes to pour out the liquid. Second, crack through the middle to split it into 2 halves. And lastly, extract the meat from the shells. The third step is by far the hardest and this tool is just the thing for the job.

First off, this thing is made from very high quality and strong stainless steel. I can feel the sturdiness when holding it. It takes a little strength to push it into the coconut and I don't see it bend or give way one bit. Because of its build, I can really feel my strength transferred into the task efficiently. I hate using things that wiggle or bend because you know it's taking power away. This thing really feels like it'll last forever.

Secondly, about its function. When using this, one has to understand how to do it. Brute force is not the way to go. When holding the coconut half in one hand, I will look over it poking with the tool to find a good entry point. From there, I just use enough strength to get the tool a centimeter or two into shell. From there, I'll wiggle it until it opens up more space on the side. I'll then move the tool to the new place and wiggle some more. Rinse and repeat and soon you'll find more and more meat is dislodged from the shell. After a while with this, I'll push it in deeper to try to pry the whole thing loose. I was able to get a perfect half coconut dislodged from the shell in my first attempt! Compared with my old way of doing it with a hammer and knife, this is a world of difference.

Overall, I am happy with the purchase. My old attempt took many times longer and makes a huge mess. I usually do it in the yard. Now, I can finish a coconut in 10 minutes in the kitchen. Great product.

UPDATE: I watched the video as Hugh suggested and bought another coconut just to try this tool out again and basically the difference was using the counter vs my hand. Once I used a counter as leverage the meat came out very easily with this tool. The first half I got the meat out very easily and quickly, the second half which was smaller (coconut didn't break perfectly even) took me a little more time but still not too long. It is a very good product and I would recommend it to anyone who wants to use it to demeat their coconuts. Thank you Hugh for caring about the customer satisfaction of your product, we need more inventors like you.

I was not able to remove meat in less than 60 seconds with this tool. I've only tried with one coconut but it was just as difficult as usual. I ordered this tool because I saw someone on youtube using it but they weren't removing the meat in less than 60 seconds either, maybe like 10-15 minutes. I worked on one half of the coconut but then got frustrated with the small pieces I was getting for the amount of time and work I was putting into it. I was also afraid of stabbing myself so I just stopped, never ended up going back to that coconut to finish it. I will try one more time with a new coconut and update my reveiew if anything changes. I've recently been told that you can just hammer the coconut once it's been broken in half and the meat will start to come off. I will do a comparison.

Chef Craft 20494 Roller Style Knife Sharpener

Chef Craft 20494 Roller Style Knife SharpenerI've had one of these for about 20 or 30 years and finally decided it was time to replace it. After searching online this appeared to be the same BUT the quality is definitely not the same quality as the old model. The little rubber wheel covers come right off when trying to sharpen a knife. It seems to sharpen OK but having to re-seat the wheel covers is a nuisance.

The second time we used it the wheel fell off and broke. We had one for years and misplaced it I a move I got this one thinking it was the same but it is made a lot cheaper.

My dad used this style sharpener when I was growing up, and I remembered it working so well. When I went to buy one of my own 15 years later, I was surprised to only find new sharpener designs in the local stores -huge clunky, tabletop sharpeners that didn't seem to work. After trying several of these with no success, I ran a search on Amazon and was happy to find that this "wheel" design still exists! By far, the easiest to use (just go slowly to be safe) and the most practical.

Sanelli 312618 Premana Professional 7 Inch Cooks Knife

Sanelli 312618 Premana Professional 7 Inch Cooks KnifeI have purchaced two of these knives after seeing them used on Iron Chef.. Wanted them to use at home to save my "good" knives.. These things are great.. Stamped but great edge to the blade.. Handles dont slip.. I would buy more..

Not a whole lot that I can say other than that these knives are pretty amazing for the price. I absolutely hate the majority of professional cutlery out there as it all seems the same. The rubberized handle makes these INCREDIBLY stable, and despite the bulk, this is the fastest chef/cook's knife I have ever used. Great if you like a smaller knife as I do, but surprisingly you don't seem to sacrifice any power in the blade at 7 inches. This is more powerful then my other Santoku and Chef's knives, and I haven't had to sharpen it yet.

I hope Amazon continues to offer these as they are EXTREMELY hard to find, but I intend to collect the entire set.

New Owners Advice! 4/19/2013

Small portions size pans, just the right size to start with and add to if necessary. You do want to have a good hot pad because the handles get warm, my guess being on the stove to long could cause a burn so my other piece of advice is this keep a baggiemarked FIRST AID FOR BURNS of flour near the stove should you get burned stick your hand in the baggie of flour for 30 minutes. You will thank me later! I hear their hot pad type not for handles like these, but have not found them l. My guess is there are some on this website(Amazon.com)! 4stars for hot handles otherwise it's a 5++++

JAPANESE King Delux Knife Sharpening Stone Grit 1200

JAPANESE King Delux Knife Sharpening Stone Grit 1200These King Stones are legitimate Japanese Water Stones made in, you guessed it, Japan. They are extremely versitile and are the highest quality stones I have used. However, there are a few more good companies out there. Water stones are true to the craft of knife honing and sharpening and is a useful skill to teach yourself. I highly recommend watching virtuovice (YouTube Name) on YouTube for excellent tutorials on how to sharpen with stones.

The lower grit stones like the 250 and 400 are great for taking out chips in the blades or reprofiling the edge to fit your needs or preferences. As a camper who beats on knifes and axes, I really need this benefit to take out those chips and these stones do so beautifully.

A good stone grit to breach the gab between the lower grits and the finishing stone is the 1000 grit. This will help smooth out the edge and give it some great sharpness. It also makes finishing the edge with a 3000 or 4000 grit stone an easier and less time-consuming step in the process. Finally, you should use a leather strop with a green and black compound to really get a good edge.

Bottom Line and Reccommending Sharpening System:

1.) 250/1000 grit King Water Stone

2.) 3000 or 4000 grit King Stone

3.) Leather strop with compound

You only really need the 250, 1000 (or 1200), and 3000 (or 4000) grit stones with the strop. I have seen the strop put a better edge than 8000 grit stones. Keep in mind a strop is only 30 bucks or so, and you could almost spend $100 on an 8000 grit stone. This reccommended sytem will make a butter knife scary sharp if you wanted it too. However, the stones are expensive and will loose shape over time depending on how much you use them. But the time you use them will definitely yield better results than a spyderco Sharpmaker (I have one). I also reccommend some sort of a stone holder like the Steelex Sharpening Stone Holder (If needed). This works well and makes it easier to work with.

The only complaints I have seen about this stone is from individuals who do not know about conditioning and resurfacing stones that are soft or are careful not to gouge the surface of any sharpening stone.

Stone arrived fast, does its job and will last a lifetime if I take care of it.

This stone can be used to produce a razor sharp edge. If you are new to sharpening with Japanese stones, I'd highly recommend you watch the "Advanced Blade Sharpening" video from Carter Cutlery. Murray Carter does a wonderful job of demonstrating his technique for getting knifes "scary sharp"!

Cambridge Clarity Sand 30-Piece Flatware Set, Service for 6

Cambridge Clarity Sand 30-Piece Flatware Set, Service for 6We needed flatware pronto and seeing walmart online prices worried about prices for a decent set. So we (I) decided to get them from Amazon. I read a lot of positive reviews. They arrived quickly enough and we put them to use. We figured set for 6 would be sufficient. However, the steel work is not top notch, as the spoons especially had sharp, chipped edges. A friend later gave us two Oneida sets for 4, we took one back to the store (Walmart), and I personally much prefer the Oneidas for their heavier weight and lack of chips. I also don't think that 6 would be enough for a small dinner party; eight or ten would be better. If you must, you must, but I'd recommend paying a little more if possible for what I've perceived so far as higher quality.

I didn't review these when I first got them, because I didn't know how their longevity would fare. It's been over a year now and they look as new as the day we bought them.

Wusthof Classic Ikon Santoku, Hollow Edge

Wusthof Classic Ikon 5-Inch Santoku Hollow Edge KnifeThis was the first "nice" knife I've bought, intending on getting an entire set over the next few months, and it is a winner.

Obviously the first thing you notice is the blade's sharpness (I almost sliced myself when I first picked it up). It will cut through pretty much anything with ease. I busted it out the night I first bought it and sliced some radishes paper thin with ease. In fact, the hardest part is avoiding your fingers. The santoku portion means foods you are cutting will slide off the knife because of the "air pockets" that the grooves create.

The next thing you'll start to notice is the balance of the blade itself. Even compared to other Wusthof knives, the Ikon is exceptionally more balanced and lighter in the hand.

Finally, on an aesthetic level, the African wood handle sold me. It's contoured so it fits your hand well, yet feels sturdy enough to last a lifetime. The lack of a huge "red" Wusthof symbol on the handle is nicer, in my opinion, than the more inexpensive Wusthofs.

My recommendation, save your money from buying inferior knives and buy this one instead. You won't regret it.

I thought hard about getting the asian style(global, shun) but I hear they're harder to sharpen than the German knives. This knife is more comfortable than the Wustof classic, with an ergonomic grip that's very natural to hold(my hands are slightly smaller than average), even if some think it looks weird. Compared with the classic, the Ikon feels better balanced, too. I didn't know much about this knife when I bought it, but it's a solidly built, comfortable, sharp and does a nice job keeping from sticking to food. Best knife I've ever used. Highly recommended.

Buy Wusthof Classic Ikon Santoku, Hollow Edge Now

I got The Wusthof Classic Ikon Santoku 5" knife after researching about the different tiers of models and their craftmanship. The Classic Ikon line I would consider Wusthof's middle-of-the pack line of knives. Before I did my research, I have already purchased a set of Gourmet line knives (entry level). Let me tell you, The quality between the two lines is like night and day.

The balance, quality and ergonomic on the Classic Ikon santoku is amazing. Very light weight and cuts up vegetables and boneless meats with ease. I am a lefty in a world of righties, so this fits well on either hand. This fact (along with pricing) is a reason why Shun knives with their cool Demascus blade out of the equation: because of their special "D" handles makes them -handed specific...but I digress.

I am an amateur when it comes to cutlery and cooking, but when friends and family come over and help prepare the meal, I always get the "woah!" expression when they use this knife. It also helps that I have my set on a magnetic rack on the wall to showcase them. My sister was so impressed that I instantly knew what to get her for Christmas.

Keep in mind that when you do need to sharpen this knife, to do it with an Asian knife sharpener. It has a sharper angle than other knives like the Chef's knife. I believe it's 15 degrees for Asian knives like the santoku versus 20 degrees on the others like the Chef's.

From an amateur's perspective, this is the best knife I have ever used (except for the all-mighty butter knife!).

My first Wustof. Definitely will get another Wustof. Sharpest knife I've ever owned or used. Cut myself on the thumb fairly deep the first time I used it. Blade so sharp, I didn't feel pain, only the slicing motion. (Pain came later, of course). If all Wustof blades are as sharp, then the prices they charge are worth it. Just be careful out there.

Wusthof 4419-7 Classic Serrated Salami Knife 6-in.

Wusthof 4419-7 Classic Serrated Salami Knife 6-in.We needed a small serrated knife to enhance our Wustof Classic knife set, which we have had for some time and love. Buying a single knife locally is very expensive. The price was terrific and the knife (Wusthof 4419-7 Classic Serrated Salami Knife 6-in.) seems to be up to the great quality of the rest of the set, as expected. Delivery was prompt. The knife could have been more carefully packaged as it was loose in "peanuts" with the tip extending slightly from the protective cardboard blade sheath, but no damage occurred.

If you're looking at this knife, you probably know what you're getting into. It's a Wusthof Classic forged, German, very high quality. Take care of it, and it'll last you a lifetime. I purchased this for cutting tomatoes (particularly the ones that we grew this year that have ridiculously thick skin), and it works beautifully at that I can slice them as thin as I like. It'll do a great job with a salami as well. No complaints here -I got better than what I paid for. The only caution to note is that I believe that the description has a typo in it -I am pretty sure that the knife is a Wusthof 4119 (not 4419, there isn't a 4419 as far as I know). The knife is exactly as described and pictured, otherwise.

Dansk Bistro Cafe 5-Piece Place Setting, Service for 1I have had this flatware for 31 years, it was my engagement gift from my parents. I adore it , it is heavy and feels great in the hand. I have replaced a few pieces over the years, as pieces were lost and they matched perfectly. I just received 4 place settings and while they are similar they are slightly different. The metal is slightly lighter in weight and the shape of pieces slightly different. Also the metal finish is matte and was not like that in the original...Some of mine was made in Korea and this latest batch was made in Vietnam, not sure if that is the reason why.

These are a pleasure to use, beautiful to look at, and easy to clean. The only warning is that the knives might not be great for "tougher" meats, but work very well for everyday use.

The knife is made of one piece of medal not with separate handles. I have searched for new sets of flatware for long and reviewed more than 20-30 popular products. I am very happy about my choce. Mine is made in Vietnam. I have not used them yet so I cannot say anything about the review about dishwashing or else.

Amco Traditional Spreaders, Stainless Steel Blades, Set of 4

Amco Traditional Spreaders, Stainless Steel Blades, Set of 4An inexpensive way to add a touch of class to breakfast. Spreads evenly, and not sharp, so my little one can use.

These are a great buy for anyone needing some spreaders. They are not themed so you can use them any time of the year. Made very well with a heavy handle that will stay where you put it. They clean up really easy too.

Excellent. Just what I wanted for our granite stone cheese boards. Our customers love them along with their boards. Excellent.

I didn't expect these knives to to be too small to fit into a jar of peanut butter without getting lost :( Definitely not multi-use.

Paderno World Cuisine 17 3/4" Magnetic Knife Rack

Paderno World Cuisine 17 3/4' Magnetic Knife RackThe rack is excellent; however, the bolts that come with it were terribly cheap and unusable, and the screws were the wrong size, so I used my own. The rack itself is great!

J.A. Henckels Twin Gourmet Hollow-Edge 7-Inch Santoku Knife

J.A. Henckels Twin Gourmet Hollow-Edge 7-Inch Santoku KnifeI have to say this knife is an excellent addition to my kitchen cutlery. I recently upgraded to J A Henckel Gourmet 18 pc set, so I added this knife and a meat cleaver. This Santoku is everything I had expected. I have watched many cooking shows where the cooks use the Santoku, but they still seem to have food stick to the blade. When I got this knife, I noticed the same results. Yet the knife is well balanced, and makes cutting chores fast and easy. A good knife to use in many cooking chores. Again I've seen a lot of big time chefs using all the high priced Santoku's and they always seem to have food left on the blade, but to me this is a minor inconvience.

I have had this knife for a year and it is holding up well. I put it through an electric sharpener after six months of use and came out with a nice sharp surface. It holds it's edge nicely. Feels good in my hand and feels like quality. Gets lot's of use. My favorite knife.
