Miyako 7" Ceramic Chef's Knife, Glossy White

Miyako 7' Ceramic Chef's Knife, Glossy WhiteThis is my second ceramic knife I have owned. Previous owner of a Kyocera but I unfortunately lost it during our move.

The Miyako is a very nice knife. The blade is very shiny, almost a mirror finish to it. The handle is very soft to the touch. It's hard to describe, you need to touch it for yourself. Annnnnd, it's dang sharp! Awesome knife thank you!

I bought this to complement the 3 piece set. It's perfect. Now I own a 4 5 6 and 7 inch set. These ceramic knives have become my "Go To" knives when I cook. It handles everything without problem. I can't cut through bones with them but who does anyways? That's when butchers are for.

This was a gift, so I haven't used it. However, the recipient who is an avid amateur gourmet cook is thrilled with it. He says slicing is almost effortless and he can slice the softest things without squeezing them.

This is sold as a Chef's knife but the literature that comes with it clearly tells you how NOT to use it as a typical knife (due to the possibility of breakage)

This product can at best be sold as a "slicer" as that is literally what it is restricted to doing.

Either that or placed on the wall as an expensive conversation piece.

Gorham Fairfax 4-Piece Sterling Silver Flatware Place Set, Service for 1

Gorham Fairfax 4-Piece Sterling Silver Flatware Place Set, Service for 1This silverware was in my Grandmother's house (my Mom has it now), and we used it almost every Sunday. Which meant the minimal place settings (fork, spoon, knife) had to be hand-washed, dried, polished, and laid back in their special case after each evening meal. And of course, on holidays, the entire contents of the silverware case was let out, serving pieces and all, polished, washed and dried, and complete place settings put upon the table by me and my younger brother (yes!) and sister. For whatever else true silverware might be worth, that family participation was well worth it. I learned to treasure every piece.

With this pattern you cannot go wrong. It's elegant, simple, easy to use and maintain, but at the same time gives you that connection with history. It works with just about any table setting that's not just unabashedly casual. jenna

Tulz Utility Knife/Spreader

Johnson Rose Offset Spatula, 8 1/4 inch Overall Length -- 1 each.

Johnson Rose Offset Spatula, 8 1/4 inch Overall Length -- 1 each.I was looking for the Wilton offset spatula, but only found this one, so I bought it. The metal blade is very flimsy. You have to have a light, fluffy frosting if you want to spread it easily with this knife. Good for glazes, too. The Wilton knife I had was at least 3 times as thick in the blade...darn kid lost it somewhere, ugh.

I will continue the search for the Wilton.

It's great for frosting cupcake and cookies. You need a bigger one for most cakes, like a 13 inch. It's very easy to use and fun to lick the frosting off.

Jean Dubost Laguiole 6-Piece Steak Knives -Multi-Colored

Jean Dubost Laguiole 6-Piece Steak Knives -Multi-ColoredThese are the cheapest knockoff of Laguiole knives. The handles are plastic and blades can be bent in half by hand! Completely disgusted with this product!

I was extremely disappointed in these steak knives. While they are sharp as advertised and will certainly cut a steak, I was expecting a little better quality. They appear to be very cheaply made and are extremely light weight and flimsy. If I had been able to hold these and feel them before I purchased them, I would have not bought them. If I could return them I would. I was expecting a better quality knife for the price. Would not recommend them.

Update... While I am still unhappy with my purchase, I would like to clarify that the company I purchased these knives from did agree to a refund. I actually heard back from them in less than 20 minutes! I am well pleased with the customer service I am receiving and will continue to do business with this company in the future.

I should have listened to one of the previous reviewers. These knives do not have a metal handle but a cheap plastic one with a paint job made to look like metal. It gives them a very light weight feel and feel very cheap. Not what you would expect from Laguiole. I returned mine.

Victorinox 12-Inch Granton Edge Slicing Knife with Fibrox Handle

Victorinox 12-Inch Granton Edge Slicing Knife with Fibrox HandleFor years I've used an electric knife to slice turkey, roasts, ham, etc. No matter how well I sharpen a carving or chef's knife, I've been unable to avoid sawing back and forth to complete a cut, or worse, having the meat just tear apart as I cut. And thin, deli-style slices are just a dream, even with a sharp electric knife.

This slicer has cured all that. It's long enough to complete a breast cut on a 30-lb turkey in one stroke, and wide enough to make that stroke in a dead-straight line with little or no guidance from me. Thin ham slices for sandwiches are no problem at all. And it's sharp enough cut through the tenderest meat as if through warm butter. The small grooves on the blade seem to keep slices from sticking, making for an effortless cut.

I bought this knife on the basis of a review in Cook's Illustrated. You can spend more, or less, but I don't think you can buy a better slicer.

We too purchased this knife after a reading a review about in Cooks Illustrated and heeding the advice of Food Network's Alton Brown.

We were convinced that we wanted a knife that sliced paper thin and in one stroke, did not wander during the cut and thus produce non uniform slices, and did not leave cutting ridges on the face of our meat.

We roasted prime rib and set about carving it. Our first impression was that it was too flexible and too thin. The first few slices looked novice like. We were also disappointed that we could not seem to slice one piece of roast in one motion as demonstrated by Alton.

However, when we fished out our 10" chefs knife for comparison, we immediately appreciated the difference. The chefs knife could not cut slices as thinly, consistently, or as cleanly as the Victorinox. We then compared it to our Henckles knife that is part of a carving set we received as gift. The Henckles is 8" of forged steel and beautifully finished, but it left us wanting more flexibility and four more inches of blade. The Victorinox abundantly provides both.

As we practiced, we became proficient. We found we could slice cleanly despite having to reciprocate the knife, we could slice uniformly, and most importantly, we could duplicate the deli sheer thin widths we like so much.

Potential buyers desiring these characteristics will not be disappointed

I've been wanting a large granton slicer for quite awhile...but never could quite see paying the cost of a forged blade.

This is a terrific knife, and an excellent value. It arrived sharp, and a quick honing keeps it that way. My slicing is better than ever.

I am the proud owner of a set of Wustof Trident knives. I bought a bulk piece of NY Strip Steaks (about 2-1/2' long) and decided to cut it into steaks, run it thru my Food Saver 2 steaks at a time and freeze them. I first tried my super whiz bang Wustof Chef's Knife (which I sharpened first). Hmmmmmm. Wasn't doing the job. Then I tried my Wustof Slicing Knife (which I also sharpened). Hmmmmmmmm. Wasn't doing the job, either! Last shot: My Victorinox Slicing Knife (didn't sharpen it). WOW! I cut 15 steaks off the rack or strip or whatever it was with ease. It held its edge, felt good in my hand, stayed relatively straight through the cut (not having done this before, the first 2 steaks were a bit irregular) and worked like a champ!! I won't give up my other knives, but I'm more than overjoyed at the smooth job this knife did. It did a great job on the Thanksgiving Turkey, too. Well worth the money. Oh, BTW, read about this knife on Cooks Illustrated. Great reference!!

I use this knife to slice beef brisket when I am competing in BBQ competitions. I need those slices to be absolutely perfect. No saw marks, completely equal and uniform, and no tearouts. This knife is unbelievably sharp and the length allows me to do a slice in one long pull. The hollows in the blade keep the meat from 'sticking' to the blade and messing up the cut. I love this knife and it was money very well spent.

Joie Tomato Slicer & Knife

Joie Tomato Slicer & KnifeThis gadget looks like a great idea but actually works very poorly. The prongs are too flimsy and bend side to side, making it difficult to slice evenly. There is no secure way to hold the thing so I promptly cut myself. The spring holding the two jaws together is strong but therefore squashed the ripe tomato I was trying to cut no doubt it would work better on the hard supermarket tomatoes you can get year round, but not for the currently available locally grown ripe ones. The knife has an oddly shaped handle, perhaps to make it easier to slice down, but since you have to worry the prongs back and forth to get them to line up it hardly helps. Glad I didn't pay shipping for the thing and am only out the price of it. I suggest you don't buy it. You can do a better job yourself and won't spend any extra money on bandaids, either.

I just received this product today and used it to slice a large, supermarket-bought tomato. It resulted in almost-uniform slices, not nearly as precise as I expected, but the device was cumbersome, cheaply-made, difficult to use, and it was nearly impossible to cut evenly between the slots, which kept shifting back and forth. After the tomato, I cursed myself for paying $16 for it, including shipping. Then, for some irrational reason unknown to me, I decided to try cutting a red onion with it. I am sitting here typing this review with two deep knife gashes that are bleeding profusely. I have temporarily tried to stop the bleeding with extra-large Band-Aids. Here's hoping I don't require an ER visit. Long story short, DO NOT buy this piece of crap. By the time you read this I might have bled to death.

I bought it for use with large tomatoes. I was having the same problems as other people, until I decided to use it upside-down. The trick is to hold it by the base with the hinge end up. Carefully insert the knife between the dividers near the hinge. Cut downward. The rigidness of the dividers near the hinge get the knife started correctly, and it goes smoothly from there.

This device is very handy for tomato and onion slicing. It's sturdy and has a non-slip base. The knife is sharp and light. We use it daily with no problems. All it requires is a little patience and fine motor skill to get perfect thin slices.

Spark Innovators Edge of Glory Knife Sharpener

Spark Innovators Edge of Glory Knife SharpenerThis product would be good if it wasn't made so cheaply. Save your money. It probably cost $1 to make. The rubber suction broke off

after the first few swipes with the first knife. What a scam.

The unit came broken.

The base not attached to surface. The unit detached from the base after the first suction. I was able to push really hard and it finally was able to suction.

The sharpen blades where chipped. This caused a rough spot on my blade after 3 draws. I didn't notice until I looked at my blade saw a dark spot on my blade.

Due to the defects after only 3 pulls the blade, I decided it was safer not to continue.

It is so frustrating to buy a product that has potential and totally under delivered.

Really this should get NO stars. The television hype shows a credit card being honed so it will slice a tomato, and this worthless product is great for that---I tried it---so if you want to get rid of your kitchen knives and just use your creduit cads to prepare meals this is super great. If you plan to use it to actually sharpen a real knife, it will totally ruin the knife, and I'm talking here a full range between the best Henckels, Henckels International, or just crap knives you buy at the grocery store. Also there's no way to get your money back. I'd throw the freaking thing out except I'm saving it to shove down the throat of anybody I find who works for this company.Edge of Glory Knife Sharpener

I bought the knife sharpener for my wife as she had several dull knives in her kitchen. I paid about $15 for it at the local department store and took it home to try it out. We did as the videos and some reviews suggested and that was gave it 4 swipes at the sharpener. The edge that came out was sharp and it worked as advertised. While I wasn't overly impressed at the construction, it did do what I needed it to do.

Accu Sharp 010 Filet Knife Sharpener

Accu Sharp 010 Filet Knife SharpenerIt used to only be available inbait stores, this is the best sharpener available. I would buy them when I was back east, nice to be able to just order online.

Bought this as I expect to actually catch some fish and have them for a meal. I understand from another review that you cannot buy this at the stores? It is what it is designed for, to sharpen your blades. Well, it does just that,"No brainer". I put it to use on my fillet knife and ended up with a razor edge. So proceeded to do about all my knives and the same results. Remember NOT to apply much pressure while drawing it across the blade. You will feel the cutting and just a light touch at the end will end the chore. Of course it's plastic but still nice quality and the safety strap will come in handy for those less challenged (who shouldn't play with sharp objects anyway) Still haven't tried it on a fish yet?

Black & Decker CO85 Spacemaker Can Opener, White

Black & Decker CO85 Spacemaker Can Opener, WhiteI totally agree with the previous reviewer, this opener has no power and even sounds like it's agonizing over the chore of opening the lid. It is definitely hard to get a can started since the cutting edge will not lift up enough to be able to hook the can edge into it, and forget about even trying to see the blade while doing said placement!

After only a week's use, it stalled numerous times while trying to open a large tuna can size. The can gets jammed and the motor continues to whine, and it took herculean effort to get the can back out of its grip. I had to unplug it several times to keep it from burning out its motor while I tried to free the can.

I cannot believe the poor design and jamming problems from the B & D namesake, much less the highly touted Spacemaker line of appliances over the years. It's definitely back to a Proctor Silex like I had before and this piece of junk is outta here!

We had a 10-year-old Spacemaker Can Opener that we liked. It died recently, and we purchased this model at the large superstore near our home. I am a handyman (we built our own home) and this new model will NOT mount properly on European-style kitchen cabinets (with a full-overlay door)! I could make a shim to mount it perhaps 3" below the cabinet, but that would be ridiculous. The mounting for this uses four screws through the base of the cabinet, but there are two front screws within 1/2" of the front of the unit. And the lever swings up 1" ABOVE the top of the unit to insert a can. So the front two mounting screws would need to be mounted into the bottom edge of the cabinet door, or the can opener cannot be used! The printed installation instructions do point out to be sure that the can opener is mounted close enough to the front of the cabinet so that the lever will clear the front of the door. But in doing this, the front two screws cannot be used. So it is going back to the store. What is wrong with B&D Engineering?

I just got this and have only used it one day. But the steel is definitely top notch so far, a little hard to clean I got the longer yanagiba, but a wet towel then paper towel does the trick. It floats through the fish I cut with no snags at all the fish barely moves. Normally my razor sharp santoku or deba will drag the fish with it.

The handle is not sealed I will probably polyurethane it for water resistance.

For 30 bucks this is a no brainer it's easily worth 70 to 80 and I'm a cheapskate

This does not have the bulk or the single bevel cutting edge of a "real" yanagi sushi knife. However, it is an excellent slicer and will give you the feel of a longer yanagiba if you haven't used one before. The thickness is probably close to a fugubiki. Either way, you can see if you dig a knife like this before taking the price plunge on the real deal.

Shun Edo BB1514 6-Inch Boning Knife

Shun Edo BB1514 6-Inch Boning KnifeFirst off, I am a professional meat cutter. I wanted the best the market has to offer, and I'll tell you right now, THIS IS IT! I started cutting with a Victorinox straight boning, which was my standard. A bit more stiff than this narrow (flexible) blade. This Edo is a very different style of knife than I'd expect. At work I use a fillet/boning knife which is flexible, but is not comparable to this knife. Only the first two inches of the knife is truly flexible (impressively flexible), the rest stiff. The perfect proportion of flexibility and usability.

Let me also say I've tried other products, such as Dexter-Russell, and Global. Neither come close.

Out of box this knife is unbelievable, great edge, and aggressive appearance. One of the first things I did was de-bone some short ribs, which resulted with the cleanest bones I've ever had to throw away. The other remarkable feature I noticed is how clean cuts really were. The knife left so must more moisture still in the meat, then I've ever seen.

All together this is the best product out there that I can find. A must have for any professional.

The product arrived in Singapore within about two weeks, much earlier than I expected. I am not a professional chief but I do cook a lot. I was so excited when I got it in my hand. The design is nice and so balanced while holding it. Besides this kinfe is super sharp so it makes so easy to debone chicken or fish. Now I understand what it means "Let the knife do the work!"

Mundial 5100 Series 6-Inch Chef's Knife, Black

Mundial 5100 Series 6-Inch Chef's Knife, BlackI'd heard good things about the Mundial 5100 series, so when I saw this 6" chef's knife for less than $20, I grabbed one. The 5100 series is made in the style of traditional German knives -for example, the Wusthof Classic series. In comparison to the Wusthofs I own, this Mundial knife is distinctly beefier, but not as perfect in finishing. The blade of the Mundial is thicker than the blade of my Wusthof Classic 7" Chef's Knife; the Mundial weighs 210g, while the (slightly longer) Wusthof weighs 170g. The joints between the black plastic handle and the steel bolster are not as "seamless" on the Mundial as on my Wusthof knives, and there is more asymmetry between the right and left sides of the handle on the Mundial than on my Wusthofs. For the sake of comparison, if I rate my Wusthofs 9.5-10 in quality of finishing, this Mundial would rate about 8.5. The Mundial is still a nice knife... it is better made than Chinese knives made in the German style that I have seen. Considering that the Wusthof 6" Chef's knife is currently $100 at Amazon -a five-fold difference -the Mundial deserves 4.5 stars for high quality at a very good price.

My wife is petite and an 8" chef's knife is too big. This 6" knife is perfect for her and she loves it. Her sister tried it and bought one for herself.

I was tempted to buy one of those German $100 knives, but after trying this one, I do not see why I should. It feels good, looks good, and is sharp as a razor. What more could you want?
