Wusthof knives is all we have been useing for about the past 10 years. We have a larger set of the high quality forged knives that have held up very well to daily use (we use ours ALOT on the farm). So I decided to buy some of there cheaper knives with the block for the dinner table and they are holding up great. Now there not as good as the high end stuff from Wusthof but they are a step above for general dinner table use for sure. No complaints from our family.

Better than most and cut well, but dishwasher does allow for some minor rust spots that I have to clean off. They will probably last a few years before I have to try something else.

Everybody should spend a little more on knifes. The cheaper sets just don't stay sharp, they fade. I shouldn't have to replace these in my lifetime the way I take care of things.

I own 2 twin selects and 4 4 stars. And must say the handling of fourstar is better and you want to have the filet knive or chefs knive from this series, or better some japanese knieve ( way sharper, but hard to maintain, I'm lazy), but for cutting bread, go with this one, the handling is not so important for cutting bread, and it does'nt squeeze my ciabatta or french bread!

I sent this knife to my son who is a baker by profession--he loves this knife. It doesn't mash the bread and cuts through crusty crusts! I higly recommend it to anyone.

If you're not a professional chef, then this is probably the most expensive bread knife you've ever looked at. But if you slice bread (or, say, watermelon) on a daily basis, it will quickly pay for itself. It's sharp, has a good feel, and will last a very long time. If you only slice bread occasionally, then you might want to consider the J.A. Henckels International bread knife instead.

So much of today's flatware is really thin and seems cheap. This is heavy and sturdy flatware that also doesn't stain in the dishwasher. The only thing not positive is the handles except for the knives are too skinny. Feels awkward.

I bought this for my daughter as she loves to help in the kitchen. She received it in her stocking last year. At five years old this is still to cumbersome for her to handle, she prefers to use my zester to peel everything, and this gets put back in the drawer everytime. Its a wonderful idea, but I think this would be better for an older child with larger hands.

This is the only knife I know of that really achieves that effect without needing sharpened regularly. It is good for all soft or semi soft foods. You can use it to cut seeded oranges and use the forked tip to pop the seeds right out.

I have one that is now ten years old with daily use. I have *never* sharpened it, and it still "floats" through overripe tomatoes. :)

This tomato knife is awesome, it slices through tomatoes with the greatest of ease. I was initially concerned about it being serrated (i equate serrated with cheap), but this knife has not lost any sharpness and still slices tomatoes as nicely as the day it was first used. I have not regretting spending a little more money to get these quality knives, I will be a lifelong Wusthof customer.

I tried the Kitchenaid & Farberware sets and they cannot match the quality of these Cuisinarts. They are so sharp that I had to change the way I prepared vegs they are like razors! These knives are not meant to compete with Wustof, Henkels, and Furi knives. What do you expect for $100?

However, as a set of everyday knives I have found them to be very nice. They keep an edge after I gave them a proper sharpening, they look nice, and they get the job done without messing up your nice knives. I have a few pieces of professional cutlery and of course these don't compare, but I'm not going to throw $1000 down to get that type of set, either.

I wanted a REALLY nice set (nicely balanced, remained sharp, very dependable), and did not want to pay the outrageous price of other sets. Thomas Keller said that a quiche should be baked in a 2-inch deep pan to achieve the right texture. When I purchased this pan, I couldn't locate an 8-inch pan with a 2-inch depth. This pan is close to that depth and the size is perfect for the quiches that we like to bake. It bakes evenly and is a cinch to clean. The removable bottom is a great feature.

The pattern, to my very pleasant surprise, was on BOTH sides of the forks, spoons, knives. Very sophisticated! Good quality, good weight, large sized (continental european) goes well with the large dishes I have. I would definitely recommend this brand to a friend.

I'm very sorry to say that I decided to return my order of this beautiful flatware pattern. It was described on other web sites as being heavyweight; in my opinion, it is not. The other reason I decided to return the flatware was that, upon inspection, I discovered minor flaws in execution that I decided I could not dismiss after I also discovered forks that were completely defective and should never have been shipped to a customer. The intricate pattern is one that requires some skill in finishing, and when I make a purchase of this size and expense that will live on my table forever, it needs to be one that I would rate five stars. The order also needs to be filled competently by the retailer with no quality control assistance from me.

This product was purchased on the 4-for-3 promotion offer, and it arrived contemporaneously with other defective items purchased from Amazon. I called Amazon to discuss my concern about the quality of merchandise I had been receiving, and was advised that items sold on the 4-for-3 promotions are not seconds, nor are any other items sold on Amazon.

Ricci has the reputation of producing high quality stainless steel flatware, and many of their designs are beautiful. I don't know whether this flatware was the same quality I would have received if I had gone to a brick and mortar store to purchase it, but what I received from Amazon just doesn't meet my high standards. If you're not as picky as I am, this is lovely flatware at a good price; just be sure to inspect it thoroughly upon receipt!

I had been looking for 18/10 flatware for some time. Many brands which were once thought of as excellent brands were problematic in that the flatware would get brown spots or rust if put in the dishwasher. I wanted to find flatware that was beautiful but not plagued by this problem. I have found it in the Ricci Meridiani flatware. I have owned it for 2 or 3 months now, put it in the dishwasher daily and I have not had any problems with rusting or spotting, even on the knife blades which are often the most problematic because they are not 18/10 on any flatware. (This is because they have to have a different composition to make them strong enough for cutting.) The added bonus is that this flatware is beautiful in design and execution. Contrary to what another reviewer said, I find that this flatware is indeed heavyweight as compared to other flatware brands, but not so heavy that it is uncomfortable to use. I find the weight and balance to be perfect in every way. I own 16 place settings and although I examined it thoroughly on receipt due to another reviewer's report of flaws, I have not found any. This pattern is very beautiful, highly polished and would be a welcome addition to any dining table, formal or informal. We use it every day. The design is executed on both sides, giving it an extra nice touch. Don't be fooled by pictures, this flatware is much more beautiful in person. I feel that you can't go wrong with the Ricci flatware, no matter what pattern you choose.

OXO Good Grips Meat Tenderizer

OXO Good Grips Meat TenderizerVery excellent product. A good weight to it for really tenderizing whatever meat you are preparing (chicken, steak, etc...) The two-sided mallot works well, where you can use the flat side on chicken so as not to make a mess, and the dimpled side does a great job on tougher meats like beef to really tender them up. I would highly recommend this item and given the choice I would definitely buy it again.

I used this for several years, and it is fine for what it is. I like the handle, but the head is a bit small, which can tear the meat.

I've since replaced it with the i-series version, which I like a lot better:

Let us be clear, if you're going to take the time to cook in your kitchen, you know a few items must need cleaning afterwards, right? Some more than others. For all those people complaining about this tool not being able to withstand the rigors that a dishwasher can dish out, here's a novel idea straight from the confines of common sense. We've all seen the little, brightly-colored spray bottles in bins at grocery stores, mega-stores and such. Fill one with half and half water and bleach, have it within reach . . . that is, just at about ankle level below the sink your standing at, spray the item to be washed and sanitized to your satisfaction (be liberal if you choose to) and then rest assured you've done everything possible under the sun to have your tight little niche of the world as "restaurant-clean and safe" as any four or five star eatery closely managed by astute folks not wanting to lose their job because of some health department oversight on their part. It's not that we are too lazy to get there, it's just that it's been such a long day with bending and such. And the heat in the kitchen, oh my! Next topic, please!

Besides the foregoing lesson, the thing works great as it should. It will pound meat all day long with the best of them and at a very reasonable price too. OXO rocks significantly!

I am yet another fan of OXO Good Grips products. The meat tenderizer is another good product. It is very ergonomic, and it's heavy/solid so that you don't have to pound as hard as you would with more lightweight tenderizers.

I don't like the fact that you can't put it in the dishwasher, but really, scrub it with some anti-bacterial dish soap and you're all set. After shopping at several home product stores in search of a tenderizer, I came back to the OXO Good Grips because I found it the best, in spite of not being able to put it in the dishwasher.

I bougth this to replace the cutting blade that I had for my 'Vintage Kitchenaid" which had dulled. My machine is over 40 yrs old (mom's). Nice sharp edges and ground the meat well (chicken). However, when washed and dried in the dishwasher the blade was rusty. I was able to remove the rust by hand but this product can not tolerate the dishwasher--disappointed as it is supposed to be stainless steel. This is why it is 3 stars and not 5.

I currently have a set of German knives with a Chef's knife that is more expensive than this entire set. So, my purchase was not a necessity, but more of a curiosity as to the quality of knives that carried the name of this TV series. Over the last month, I have been happily using these knives and they are great. For me, they are well balanced and easy to keep extremely sharp with the brief use of the sharpening steel before use. They are just delightful to use.

The shears work fine but I kept my other pair because these cannot be disassembled for cleaning. This is not a negative but my preference.

I contemplated purchasing a professional grade knife set for around $1,000 from Williams Sonoma (Michel Bras), thinking that it would make me a better cook, but I decided to try these first, and I must say that I was pleasantly surprised. The first thing that impressed me that the handles were not wooden and they were very very sturdy. It has that welded metallic feel to it. The knives at relatively heavy and the sharpener is AMAZING! I sharpened all those suckers in a few minutes and everyone was as sharp as they can be. Each knife cut through my veggies and meat like butter and was still sharp after. I got this set along with my Catskill Craftsmen Wood End Grain Cutting Slab which is good for keeping your knives sharp and "healthy." Do not use these knives on plastic, glass or composite cutting boards. Invest in a good block and you will have many good years out of these. I have spent money on 1 chef knife equivalent to the price of this entire block and have had the same, maybe even better cutting experience with these knives. Just remember that you need to wash these knives right after you cook and wipe them dry so that they can do their job well. Do not put in the dishwasher and do not leave in the sink to soak or with other dishes.

Shun Premier Bread Knife, 9-Inch

Shun Premier Bread Knife, 9-InchI own Kyocera ceramic knives and other Shun knives so I'm used to quality knives in general. This knife has exceeded my expectations in every way: it's balanced, beautifully finished, it can handle any loaf size with its long and sturdy blade, it glides through soft and hard breads with ease allowing me to cut almost transparently thin slices. This is a wonderful knife worthy of the high price you pay.

I purchased this after reading, looking, and thinking a lot. This is a very nice knife. Mine is much more polished than the one in the photo, so it doesn't look as rugged, especially since the hammer marks are all polished, though still present. Anyway, it's smooth to the touch everywhere but the cutting edge of the blade. And the blade is super thin at the cutting edge. Goes through bread with very little work and cuts the straightest pieces I've ever made. Used it to carve a whole chicken the other night... it would be perfect for thanksgiving! I've used cutco for a while and I believe that this will hold an edge better than cutco's french chef knife, mainly because it is thinner at the edge. Not sure about longevity, but if I take care of this I think it will last a really, really long time. Also, as for the metal work in the blade... most of the knives out there ($75 and up) will last a life time with a bit of care (shun, wustof, cutco).

Our ability to make steel really hard, or really soft, at will makes creating blades like this a lot cheaper and more consistent than 100 years ago. I looked around and most of the serious cutlery is running around 58+ rockwell, which is pretty darn hard when it comes to it. So what I wanted was a beautiful knife to look at, hold, and use for a long time. This particular series of blades fit the bill because they have that hard cutting core and a softer wrapping welded to that core, and they reveal the core by grinding. That makes each knife unique, very well made, and for $200 (after taxes and shipping it's a lot, but it gives good incentive to take good care of it) I'm only purchasing ONE knife like this in my life time (assuming all goes well).

I'd like to purchase more of the series as the need arises. Oh, yeah, I do really like to get this one out!

BOTTOM LINE

Shun Premier Knives are made with the same technique as traditional samurai swords. After months of moderate use on the toughest items, my Shun Premier knives haven't dulled, chipped, scratched, or otherwise marred their initial perfect finish. I know what I want daily in the kitchen and by my side in the Zombie apocalypse. However, consider looking for a better price elsewhere.

SHARPNESS AND STRENGTH

I have used other Shun Premier knives for cutting through the toughest things, like pineapple. The outside of a pineapple is as hard as wood, and my Santoku does it with only gentle application of force no sawing required. After months of use on only the tough stuff (I use different knives for for different things), this knife still hasn't dulled noticeably. Notice, this knife is for bread, but I mention the pineapple as an example of how sharp Shun knives are generally.

BEAUTY

This knife is a thing of beauty it has a beautiful wooden finish on the handle, and the knife has this pretty blotted ink look, referred to in the description as Damascus. I love to show off my $160 knife to all of my friends.

SHARPENING

I won't risk sharpening my knife at home because I don't know how to properly use a whetstone. I have a Zwilling J.A. Henckels Twin Sharp Duo Knife Sharpener for use on my cheaper knives, but the instructions on the Shun recommend you don't use that kind of sharpener, since this knife is sharpened to a different degree than European knives.

Surprisingly, the price on Amazon is not the best price I've seen for the blade. You may want to check your local high-end home-goods or kitchen-goods store like Crate and Barrel. Still, I would consider ordering from Amazon, simply because shipping to my door is so convenient.

I'm so impressed with my Shun Premier Line's ability to cut through poultry, ligaments and all, that I'm already planning on how to adapt my knife for the zombie apocalypse. Considering these things are made like samurai swords, I'm confident I'll be more well-equipped than my regular knife wielding buddies when we're out of bullets and the zombies are inevitably bearing down upon us.

Amazingly sharp and holds it edge due to the layered construction and the wave in the blade. If you own any shun knives then you know they make some of the best quality and most beautiful knives on the market. If you aren't then this is a great way to get your first one. They are not cheap but very well worth the money if you use knives in the kitchen and it doesn't hurt that they look like they are works of art.

Forschner 6' Semi Stiff Knife - Black HandleI used this exact knife for two years in a meat processing plant. I used it for boning sides of beef and it works well for every aspect of boning. I would set the edge with a diamond bit steel at the beginning of an 8hr shift and that edge would last all 8hrs with only the occasional run on a sapphire cut steel. I do have these knives in my house and they stand up to my wife chopping veggies very well, even though that's not what it is made for. I have only high praise for Victorinox blades and its all i will buy.

Totally Bamboo Cutlery Tray

Totally Bamboo Cutlery Tray, SmallOverall its okay for the price, but the bottom panel is laminate and not actual bamboo. I'd buy it again, but would have liked to know what I was getting.

This is a nice tray and fits perfectly in my drawer. However, after one week I noticed that at least two of the separators are coming apart from their holds. I bought wood glue to stick it back in, but still, this is not something I should have to go through this soon. As a result I am disappointed in the quality of this product.

The tray is great, but the large size is listed as being 17" long. It is NOT. It is 18" long. My cutlery drawer is 17" so this was going to fit perfectly I thought. Then it arrived at actually 18" long and was immediately packed up for return. Amazon needs to fix the description of this item.

Good size organizer that is well made and attractive. Looks good in the drawer. Better than the adjustable organizers as it takes up less room.

These trays looked nice on paper, but were not the quality one would expect. One of the trays I received was broken after assembly, leaving sharp and exposed edges. Both of the two trays I received are poorly assembled, using ill-fitting pieces that flop around because they are too short to fit properly. This may be OK if you're hiding them in a drawer, but they are not suitable for use at the table, as suggested by the maker. I'm very disappointed by the poor quality. These items were NOT damaged in shipping, they were shipped in damaged, poorly assembled condition. The only reason I haven't returned them is because it would very inconveniently delay a home improvement project I'm working on.

I thought it was a little expensive, but ordered it anyway because I felt that if you have the knives then you should probably order this whetstone. It arrived very quickly and was very nice quality. It even has rubber feet on it so it will not slip when you are using it wet. You must soak the whetstone in water for about 15 minutes, until it no longer absorbs any more, prior to using. Your knife is then drawn back and forth on the whetstone at about a 10-15 degree angle to the blade of the knife. In very little time the blade is brought back to it's original sharpness or better. It is suggested to use the whetstone 70-80 percent more on the side of the hand that you use. That would mean if you are right handed then sharpen 70-80 percent more on that side than the left side or vice versa if you are left handed. I use a ripe tomato to test the sharpness on. In all I would say that this whetstone is a good valued tool that does a great job.

This little stone helps me keep my type 301 and other knives sharp as could be! Takes no room in my kitchen and easy to learn how to do it! LOVE IT!
