LamsonSharp 6-Inch Forged Utility Knife

LamsonSharp 6-Inch Forged Utility KnifeMy husband asked for this as a gift. I chose the cherry colored wood for him. It's so pretty, I feel bad about getting it dirty! But I quickly took it over and added it to my collection. :) Very nice weight to it. It is much easier cutting things than it was with my Chicago Cutlery set.

Be sure when dealing with this line to use the keywords :silver" to get the nicest quality. Unfortunately, "oiled rosewood" was a descriptor here and is not a nice feeling or looking handle, very rough to the touch compared to my other LamsonSharp "rosewood" knife. These are too pricey to not be happy with them it is going back.

Wusthof Gourmet Wave 7-Inch Multi-Purpose Utility Knife

Wusthof Gourmet Wave 7-Inch Multi-Purpose Utility KnifeOh my goodness! I LOVE this knife and use if for almost EVERYTHING! Where has it been all my life? I bought one for a friend also who has a catering business and she adores it. She feels the same way I do...where has it been all her life? May order different Wusthof knives in different sizes soon, too. Way to go Wusthof!

FAB knife! I originally bought it for cutting homemade bread (which it does soooo much better than reg. serated knives), and I find we use if for everything. Even strong enough to easily chop right through a hard peach pit like it was, well, something really soft I can't think of :).

My husband loves great knives so I got this for him for Christmas last year. He loves it as it slices foods like tomatoes that are easily squished with dull knives very thinly and easily. The downside is that you can't sharpen the knife because of its wavy edge. When cutting thick items like squash or watermelon it's difficult to get a straight cut. But it's a great knife!

I ordered this at Christmas. We've only used it 6 or 7 times but each time

was for a different type of meat and chopping vegetables (roast, whole chicken, steak, corned beef ....).

It works great. I would like to buy the little bit longer one also.

Want Wusthof Gourmet Wave 7-Inch Multi-Purpose Utility Knife Discount?

This knife is 16 cm. or 6 & 5/16" and should not be called a 7" knife! That said, it is a really nice little knife and very very sharp. I have several of the Wusthof reverse wavy edge knives and they never really get dull. However, they do wear down and need a occasional touch-up with a steel or sharpener. It is a really good size and shape for an all around utility knife; perfect for making sandwiches, it slices bread, cheese, tomatoes and meat all equally well. I did not think it would be any good for chopping but if you use a forward rocking motion it does a great job. I really like this knife and gave it 3 stars instead of 4 because I was disappointed by its smaller than expected size and light weight.

After using the knife for a week, I gave it to my girlfriend. It's just too short and I don't like the rounded tip, which reminds me of a child's safety scissors. If they made this in a 20 cm. size with a normal sloping and pointed Santoku style tip it would deserve a 5 star rating; as it is, 3 stars are plenty. However my girlfriend really likes it.

ALPHA Heavy Duty Meat Cleaver - 9" Cleaver, Stainless Blade

ALPHA Heavy Duty Meat Cleaver - 9' Cleaver, Stainless BladeThis is a great cleaver. It is very inexpensive but you get a lot for the cost. The cleaver is heavy and easy to work with. It's large size makes it great for getting the job done. I have seen cleavers for many times the price that I didn't think were nearly as good as this one. Overall, I would highly recommend it even against the expensive cleavers.

Nice and heavy. Bigger than available in stores. We are so happy with it. Came quick too. A great buy.

this item, available directly from amazon, arrived fairly quickly but not adequately padded to protect it from rough transit.

despite the fact that it was in a seemingly never-opened blister package, quality of the cleaver was very poor: the blade had a number of smudges and scratches and even one small rust spot.

so back it went to amazon for a credit.

Norpro 4 Piece Knife Organizer Set

Norpro 4 Piece Knife Organizer SetFinally a knife storage product for drawers that is both affordable and versatile. I wasn't certain that I would be able to make it fit my particular drawer size, but the interlocking tabs fit together to make any size you want. You can really adjust it to match exactly what you need. The knives store so well that I actually gained space in the drawer for other items, not to mention the counter space that is free of the big chunk of firewood that only worked for about ¼ of my knives. Norpro 1155 4-Piece Knife Organizer Set

Arrived promptly. Simple and well constructed. Pieces were longer than space we had allotted but very easily and cleanly cut with hand saw. I still must figure out best way to keep bar for slipping up and back now that I have decided where I like them placed. Will most likely use slim double-sided adhesive on the bottom. Also, some of my wider blades tilt up a bit, but this can be improved by spacing two pieces wider apart. Would definitely recommend. Has made drawer neater and safer, and made finding and accessing desired knife much faster and easier. Best of all, no clunky knife block cluttering up valuable counter space.

Not the prettiest knife holder out there, but allowed me to make my knife drawer much more organized and SAFER. Was able to consolidate knives that had been stored in other drawers. I highly recommend this product if you have a variety of knives of different lengths and styles, as the opposing blade orientation lets you fit them quite well.

Kuhn Rikon 4 Inch Green Paring Knife With Sheath

Kuhn Rikon 4 Inch Green Paring Knife With SheathThe Kuhn Rikon Nonstick Paring Knife is a very good value for a quality knife. We own several of these knives in different colors for use at home and in our shop. The different colors allow us keep the ones we use to cut materials in our workshop from accidently being used for food products.

The blade is *VERY* sharp and holds it's edge very nicely. The nonstick coating on the blade is a real plus as it helps to keep the knife clean as well as to keep it moving through thicker items. The snug fitting platic sheath is a welcome addition to safely store or transport the knife.

My only complaint is the light feel of the plastic handle. It isn't flimsy exactly, just lacks heft. This might just be a personal prefference issue and it hasn't stopped me from buying more of them.

Overall this is a very good paring knife at a reasonable price. Recommended!

This paring knife is the prettiest thing I have ever seen. Available in 6 attractive colors. The knife's non-stick surface coating is such a clever idea. Why they have not think of it before? The coating helps to make the blade glide with less effort. It seems that the blade is super sharp because of this. Perfect size for peeling fruits.

It comes with its own sheath that is very useful when you bring the knife with you. Kuhn Rikon is a Switzerland brand, the knife is made in China. At a very affordable price of 10$, this is my favorite knife that I bring at work.

I have a friend whose a chef who covets my knife so I figured Id look on Amazon and unbelivably they had it and it was still $60.00. I know guns and knives pretty well and I would say that blade is worth between $150.00-$200.00 no problem. It also makes a fantastic fillet knife for large fish like White Sea Bass. I see the deckhands on the dive boats I frequent with a more comercial kithen knife white handle but same blade configuation.

I got this knife after being in MI and seeing all the charter boat aptins using is to cut up all the fish. I have never seen a knife just slide right though a 20lb samon without any effort. I have used other kifes and electric ones in the past. This putts all other knifes to shame. Lets just start with the fact this is a 12inch blade you might not need this but once you get used to it you can go through fish like nothing. I have also gotten the 8 inch breaking knife and another great knife. If you want to cut alot of meat and fast this is your knife. If you want an extremly sharp durable knife this si the knife.

Forever Sharp Platinum Series 8 Pc Surgical Stainless Steel Knives

Forever Sharp Platinum Series 8 Pc Surgical Stainless Steel KnivesImmediately upon opening the box, I noticed that only one of the knives even had an edge. The knives without an edge could not cut through bread, a tomato, a pepper, etc. The one knife with an edge performed adequately, but no more. It would make it through crusted bread if there was sufficient back and forth action used. The knives are light weight and the blades are thin. I tried to contact the manufacturer to see if I simply had received a bad set that had escaped their quality control. No response. I returned the set.

Great set of knifes. We did not know we already had several knifes from this company. We had them for approx 5 years and their still sharp. Great price for all the knifes we got. It came down to less than $5.00 a knife after we added it up.

And definitely not 'Surgical Stainless Steel'. Not only are these knives dull as dirt, they rust. Surgical stainless should not rust. I wish these reviews allowed photos to be uploaded so you could see for yourself. You wouldn't believe your eyes. Save your money.

The paring knife is pretty sweet. I love that it's constructed from a a seamless single piece of steelit just feels very good in my hand. This is admittedly a crappy consumer set of knives that most people will never bother to sharpen because they have no idea how or only a useless honing steel. I keep one in my knife roll for it's unmistakable flashy looks knowing that if it one day went missing, I would not be too sad.

Want Forever Sharp Platinum Series 8 Pc Surgical Stainless Steel Knives Discount?

My wife got this little paring knife as a freebee at a demo in one of the big box stores. It is NOT the Platinum series but rather one labeled Surgical Stainless Steel. I must admit it is sharp, but we have only had it about two months at this point and time will only tell how it will hold up. Problem is, it is rusting and or pitting. I must admit someone, most likely me, did put it away with some left over chocolate on it, but why a stainless steel blade would pit from chocolate is unknown to me. So, that said, I have my doubts this is actually Stainless Steel and I am not aware of Surgical Stainless Steel rusting, but then again I am not a surgeon. As always "buyer beware".

Birchware Compostable Wooden Spoons 100/pcs.

Birchware Compostable Wooden Spoons 100/pcs.I purchased these recently, they ended up being 8 cents a piece (not super cheap, but not bad). They are very shallow. When placed in hot liquid they flatten out even more (to the point where it is impossible to differentiate either side of the "spoon"). It is still possible to eat food with them, so I will continue to use them until they are gone. The concept was great, but they should have used more wood to make a deeper spoon. They are made in China, if that raises any food safety concern for anyone... (the package says no glazes were used, but you never know what may be leached into your food...)

For cold food, they will work well. Wood is great, better than both petroleum and non-petrol based plastics in my opinion. I would not recommend this specific product, but I would highly recommend the idea.

Recyclable, compostable cutlery is a fantastic idea but these items change their shape and become more difficult to use after they get moist.

Buy Birchware Compostable Wooden Spoons 100/pcs. Now

The spoons are practically flat. When eating cereal or soup, you can barely get any liquid in the spoon. This may work as a coffee stirrer, but you can use much less wood for a coffee stirrer.

To add to the problem, they feel terrible against your mouth. It gives me chills just thinking about it.

Boker Wood Magnetic Knife Block

Boker Wood Magnetic Knife Block, OliveI purchased this as a Warehouse Deal. I initially wasn't sure I'd keep it but I like a lot now. I was looking for a knife block that took up less space than my old block and that was a cleaner place to keep my knives. With the magnetic block, I like that the knife blades are all visible, so I can see what knife I'm reaching for, and that the holder doesn't collect dust like the slots in traditional knife blocks.

I ordered the Olive and the one I received is much darker than the picture. Mine almost perfectly matches the Pakkawood handles on my LamsonSharp Silver series knives. It doesn't look as dark as the Makassar option (which looks like a dark walnut on my screen), but it is much darker than what is pictured for Olive. The wood is finished nicely, smooth with no rough edges. (Mine had a very small dent in the bottom front part of the base, but I was buying a used item, Warehouse Deal, and the dent was no big deal.) Since the color works for me, it was okay that it didn't match the picture.

Initially, I wasn't sure about the design. When taking a knife off, if you just pull the knife away, the holder tips over because the magnets are so strong. But removing the knife with a gentle twist (away from sharp side of blade) works. It took getting used to but now I don't have to think about it.

The knife holder will only hold one knife per panel. There is a magnetic rod in each panel right down the center. You can't see it but can feel where it is when placing a knife. The knifes are held straight and can't be off-center. So, you can't put two small knives on one panel. The panels are also not magnet on the backsides.

The shortest panel is 5 3/4 inches high. Each gets about 3/4" taller, up to the tallest, which is 9 1/2 inches (and it works for my 10" bread knife). Each of the panels is 2 1/4" wide except the back one, which is 2 1/2" wide. You can only put a knife with a blade wider than 2", or wider than the panels, on the back panel. (I have a vegetable cleaver on my back panel, which works great to hold a wide knife.)

This block is so much nicer than the old traditional block I had. It does consume less counter space, and the knives are not slanted forward covering more counter space. It has a simple and unique design, and it displays knives well. I think it is a little bit on the expensive side but I couldn't find anything else that I thought was better, and I looked at a lot of different options. I'm glad I was able to get a Warehouse Deal on it. After using it for a while, I really like it and hope to never have to replace it.

I was having trouble finding a knife holder that would hold my Shun knives, because they had a different shape than the typical knife. This holder works well, and the knives are very accessible.

Buy Boker Wood Magnetic Knife Block Now

Received this in the mail today. Very pleased with my purchase so far. Magnets are indeed strong, so the "twist and pull" method is working well.

Read Best Reviews of Boker Wood Magnetic Knife Block Here

After much waiting, I finally received this magnetic block in Makassar. It's beautiful. The wood is slightly ligher than the pic, but it's still an extremely nice color of wood.. it matches my kitchen perfectly, and it doesn't take up *that* much counter real estate (not any more than a normal block would).

The magnets that hold the knives are very strong and hold all of my knives with ease. I own a combination of normal knives as well as ones that are titanium coated. This knife block holds all of them solidly.

After much searching for a magnetic knife block, I finally found this one.. and I couldn't be happier.

Whether you're searching for a magnetic block sanitation benefits (knives aren't dropped into damp, bacteria-filled knife slots.. as is the case with traditional blocks).. or if you're just in it for the aesthetics of having nice knives out on display.. you can't go wrong with this block.

Want Boker Wood Magnetic Knife Block Discount?

No holes in the knife block means no roaches, and no space for them to hide near and contaminate the blades.

The block has 7 spots (the vertical boards) for knives, but there are actually 2 magnets in each of the boards so if you use it for display you can pretty much put 13 knives on it. The magnets are strong, so the knives will NOT be falling off.

As another reviewer mentioned, the way to take the knives off of the magnets is to hold the knife by the handle and twist it off, not just pull it off.

The makassar wood is just a bit lighter than in the picture. I haven't used it for kitchen knives so I'm not sure if the wood wears down or scratches, but something tells me this knife block will look great even after some use. Boker makes some wonderful products; very happy with their subcom, ceramic anti-grav and boker kal-09 folders also.

I use one for displaying folding knives (the knives are stored properly on the top magnets, and I folded 6 folding knives and affixed their spines to the bottom magnets; looks sweet) and am going to buy another for kitchen knives. Superb!

Wusthof blade guard 8 cooks

Wusthof blade guard 8 cooksThis is how I use this guard: to cover my 8" Wusthof knife while I store it in a drawer. And it works just as advertised. I'm not a ninja who whips this out from underneath my kimono, and I'm not constantly putting the knife in and out of the guard. When it's time to make dinner, I open the drawer, take out the knife, use the knife, wash it, and then put it back. If this describes you, then this blade guard should work well. It covers the entire blade, it doesn't seem like it is going to fall apart any time soon, and it is sturdy enough to offer protection when I throw the slotted spoons on top of it.

I bought these hoping to keep my knives safe while traveling back and forth between work, as well as while sitting on the line while I am doing something else. They looked great when I bought them, and the lining made it appear as though they were of high quality. Within a week they all started splitting down the seam, meaning they no longer protected my knives or stayed on them. I have now gone back to the no name guards that secure to the blade tighter and are made of thicker plastic. They don't look as good, but I make a living with my knives and protecting the edge so I can make perfect cuts is really all that matters.

Shun AP0119 Electric Sharpener

Shun AP0119 Electric SharpenerThis is a very nice unit. Compact, yet fairly heavy and very stable while in use. It is primarily meant for use with the Shun knives, but will sharpen any knife, while changing the blade angle to 16 degrees. You cannot use it to sharpen serrated edge knives. It pops apart for cleaning and is fairly easy to use.

It will take a little practice to get the "stroke" down pat. You don't want any down pressure and a steady, staight pull thru the machine. I find that two passes usually do the trick.

This machine will not restore your knife to that factory edge that Shun is famous for. This machine is meant to get you close. You must hone the knife to get that finished edge. I use a water stone to finish with, but there are other methods.

This sharpener is not meant to replace using the steel either. I steel my blades each time I use them. I only resort to the sharpener when the steel will not restore the edge. Sharpening too often is as bad as not often enough.

I find this machine is very good at restoring the factory angle and getting the knife very close to sharp. I don't mind the extra few minutes it takes to put that "razor" edge on with a stone. I think it is well worth the price and recommend it.

I've had a set of Shun knives for 3 years now and hadn't had them sharpened. You are supposed to have them sharpened once a year. Shun used to provide sharpening service for free if you mailed your knives too them, but they have discontinued this service. I found this out just as I was getting sick of my knives been dull. The electric sharpener worked well, it took two passes on my 9" chef knife to get it perfectly sharp, it was 90% of the way there after one pass. The sharpener is very loud, but I guess that is to be expected. The unit is fairly compact, which is good since I don't plan on using it more often than once a year. Overall I would say it is a good investment especially since you can't get the knives sharpened for free anymore.

Winco High Carbon Stainless Steel Bread Knife, 12 inch -- 1 each.

Winco High Carbon Stainless Steel Bread Knife, 12 inch -- 1 each.I needed a long, sharp bread knife for my Bread Pal Slicer, which is wide enough that an 8" or 10" bread knife just won't 'cut it', if you'll pardon the pun.

This knife, with it's 12" blade, is the perfect tool for the task.

Beware of one thing when shopping for 12" knives: A 12" knife is supposed to have a 12" blade. However, I've seen some [right here on Amazon] that claim to be a "12 inch knife"; but, in reality, are 12 inches in TOTAL LENGTH.

I highly recommend this knife.

In August of 1882, master German knifesmith Frederick Winwarre (pronounced VIN-varruh) came to this country with nothing but the clothes on his back and a small forge. His prize-winning breadknives were rumored to be so sharp that bakers banned them from their shops: if the proprietor were to turn his back, then in mere seconds a browsing customer could slice the morning's loaves into cubes, tuck them into a pocket, and abscond with tens of dollars worth of choice breadcrumbs. Renamed "Winware" (pronounced the way it looks; Freddy had a gift for marketing), the knives were a hit, and prices ballooned. Shortly after William Henry Vanderbilt II commissioned a 43-foot Winware breadknife forged from solid gold, the speculative bubble finally burst. Some say that WHV II was never the same after he suffered the resulting financial loss. Regardless, the intrinsic quality of Winwarre's product ensured that his business survived the ensuing century, albeit never recovering its former glory.

The Winware 12" Bread Knife Stain Free High Carbon Steel lives up to its name and its reputation. I have poured literally gallons of ink upon the blade, with nary a stain. My own analysis of the carbon content in the steel blade was carried out in a home laboratory without proper equipment, but I can confirm that the carbon content is indeed high. The length is also precisely 12" -a traditional length, suitable for cutting the long hot-dog buns intended for foot-long Frankfurters. While I have only cut several hundred loaves of bread since my purchase last week, performance has been strong. I will think fondly of Frederick Winwarre and the American Dream as I slice bread in the years to come.

Tupperware 12" Pie Taker Cupcake Holder Round with Red Seal

Tupperware 12' Pie Taker Cupcake Holder Round with Red SealIt is not very deep so if you try to use it for cupcakes you will mess up the frosting.

I am an amateur telescope maker, and that means I 'make' telescope mirrors, and might also make telescope lens. The Tupperware 12" round holder with sealing lid is perfect for storing and transporting telescope mirrors and lens, which are still being worked on, or completed but not yet mounted in the telescope. I am currently working on my 10" mirror (long term project), and the mirror is now stored safely in another 12" round with lid. The two I bought were gifts . I gave one to my wife to replace the old one I'm using for the 10" mirror. The second one is also a gift to another amateur telescope maker who runs the Mirror Workshop I attend.

The only difficulty we have is that larger diameter rounds are not available. Mirror diameters increase in size. For example, 12.5", 16", 20", and other larger and intermediate sizes. The Tupperware design in strong, plastic, seals very tight, and will not accidentally open. It is perfect. Except there are no larger diameters, like 14", 18" , 24" etc.
