Henckels International Fine Edge Pro Stainless-Steel 7-Piece Knife Set with Block

Henckels International Fine Edge Pro Stainless-Steel 7-Piece Knife Set with BlockThese are NOT the german henckles they are made in Japan and don't even compare to the german or even spain henckles. I am returning this product as i don't find it worth even the $49. I certainly don't know any stores that would sell this for the $247 or whatever they said the "retail" price was. The block was also dissapointing, it looked plastic. This makes me nervous to buy other amazon products that are at "sharp" discounts in the kitchen section...

first of all be aware of that knives are made in Japan and block is made in China.I thought they were made in Germany when I ordered them. Especially block is awful. I do not recommend this set to anyone because even cheapest knives that I had bought from Walmart (china made-$4) are sharper and cut better. If there is no difference between the cheapest knives from Walmart and this over 70 bucks set what is the point to pay this nonsense difference for a worse one.If you really want a nice set you have to pay what it deserves (check out amazon you will see some real sets cost over thousands)but if you want something that can fulfill the tasks in your kitchen you can easily buy any cheaper alternative rather than these.

The knives are wonderful. They are the really sharp knives and work very well. The knife sharpener that comes with the knifes broke apart when I took it out of the block. Good thing I wasn't sharpening a knife at the time. Use caution when using the sharpener or check to see that it is pushed inside the handle as far as it can so it does not fall apart when using.

Dh bought these for Christmas, 2005. WOW, they are SHARP! Just weeks later, they had already dulled immensely and need to be resharped. I washed and dried them immediately, as advised, but I still have some rust already, less than a year. When I find my reciept, they go back!!

These knives looked much better on the picture than when I got them. They are nice and sharp but not as heavy or as nice as I expected from Henckels. But then again they are the International version which is the ONE GUY thingie and not as nice! They are also Stamped steel if you care that they are forged or not.

They are light weight and look great, so if you like knives that are not too heavy in your hand then these are the ones for you. I like a heavy handle and more weight so that it feels substantial in your hand and not like a 5 dollar knife, So all in all it's "You get what you pay for"

Cold Steel Kitchen Classic Block Set (13 Pcs) with Kraton Handle and Oak Block

Cold Steel Kitchen Classic Block Set with Kraton Handle and Oak BlockI have been a fan of cold steel knives for a long time. I have been carrying the same recon 1 knife for the last 10 years. I got married 5 years ago and wanted my wife to have a good set of kitchen cutlery. I have found the cold steel knives to be very good kitchen knives. They hold an edge well and maintaining the edge is a fairly simple chore. Now for the bad part. It pains me to say this but Cold Steel could have a 5 star product here but for one thing. The kraton handles do not stand up to extended use. The paring knife handle has started to crumble as well as the handle on the chef's knife. Cold Steel has good steel. But they really need to rethink their use of rubber on the handles. I give this set of knives 3 stars because the steel is good and easily maintainable. But good steel with a bad handle is a real disappointment. I have carefully scraped the rubber off the handles and exposed a hard plastic handle underneath. The thickness is much smaller now and the handles are still useful. Spending your hard earned dollars for a set of knives that should last a lifetime, just to have them last a few years is a real bummer. I am still a Cold Steel fan, just not a fan of this particular item. I am currently thinking of replacing the Cold Steel kitchen classic set with Henckles or maybe Boker.

I bought this knife set for my daughter as she was moving into her first new home. My intention was to buy her a set of knives which would last a lifetime. My son (who owned a knife store franchise) suggested the Cold Steel set and so I made the purchase. I was very pleased with the quality of the knives both handles and steel. I would suggest these knives as a moderately priced knife set for anyone and intend to get a set for myself.

I was surprised when I opened the box to find the Cold Steel KItchen Knives thin and light.

While, I am used to German and Japanese Cutlery that is heavy in the hand, I have come to rely on these knives.

The handles are a synthetic polymer/plastic which is secure in the grip even when the knives are wet or when slippery while washing them by hand.

The edges are sharp sharp as any Cold Steel Hunting or Fishing knife I've purchased in the past.

I've cut roasts, vegetables and fruit with the knives and steaks an inch thick with the steak knives. The edges remain sharp. The knife block is heavy and is built (not just made) from what appears to be maple laminate and is well constructed and attractive on the counter.

I've spent thousands on kitchen knives in my life and find these Cold Steel Knives equal to and probably better than any knife in my kitchen.

While they still seem to be too light and too thin, they are the ones I use now. All I have to do is figure out what to do with my German Steel.

I have not had these for long so I cannot attest to the long term durability of these but thus far about two months in it has been a great product at a phenomenal price. I cannot imagine any knife set at this price range being much better. The handles are very comfortable and resist slip quite well. Edge retention has been impressive and with a little honing maintenance these knives should be enjoyable for a long time.

Oneida Flatware Chef's Table 20 Piece Service for 4

Oneida Flatware Chef's Table 20 Piece Service for 4This flatware is balanced nicely and is very comfortable in your hands. Oneida has a great reputation and this style certainly lives up to that expectation!

Bought this to add to my existing. Couldn't find a label the existing and thought this was the closest I had seen to shape of spoons, forks and knives. It is heavy flatware, which I really like. So much of today's flatware is really thin and seems cheap. This is heavy and sturdy flatware that also doesn't stain in the dishwasher. The only thing not positive is the handles except for the knives are too skinny. Feels awkward.

Guide Gear 6 Piece Stainless Cutlery Set

Guide Gear 6 Piece Stainless Cutlery SetI am by no means a chef or expert on knives. I use them on rare occasions for things like cutting open a fruit or opening a package. For this purpose. they work better than other knives I have used. I also like their coloring and design. I don't like the way they fit into the holder. The pictures show the knives all aligned an even with each other. The actual unit doesn't look like this, with the knife handles and different heights and up/down angles. I put my handles in upside down to minimize this. I don't consider this a major issue, so I gave 4 stars.

Bought this as a gift. When I opened it to make sure it was what I wanted, I was impressed with the quality of the knives. They do not seem cheap. I like the fact that they are all stainless steel knives. The only difference between this set and some of the higher priced ones, was that this one did not come with a set of steak knives. I did not use them however, so I don't know for sure how they will hold up. I bought them for my husband's nephew who is training to become a chef. They look very nice and he was excited to receive them.

This product is on clearance for a reason. Junk... I hate complaining, but the "knife set" came with the base busted. The worst "woodwork" I have ever seen. The stainless steel cap on top fell on the ground when I opened the package. There is an insert that flopped on the floor too... I could not have ordered a worse knife set. There are many options, this should not be one of yours. FYI, I used heavy duty caulk to reaffix everything. It looks terrible, but I wasn't going to pay for return shipping on a $20 item... What a joke. Grab the $30 Ginsu set instead!

Bella Cucina 17-Pc Rocket Blending System 10029

Bella Cucina 17-Pc Rocket Blending System 10029I have been looking for a blender/food processor/blending system that could hold up to the ingredients I put in my smoothies, and this one works like a charm, even when my ingredients include big chunks of nectarines or walnut halves. All of my smoothies have come out smooth, not chunky, and this is even replacing my Cuisinart mini-prep as go-to kitchen appliance of choice.

Other things I love about this blender:

There's a locking mechanism that allows you to set it to blend and walk away.

With the multiple blending cups, I never have to worry about having a clean one handy. I wash the blades by hand, but put the cups and lids in the top rack of the dishwasher.

A screw-on cap is included, so I can take my smoothies with me if I don't have time to drink it at home.

Finally, my smoothie recipe (which I now consume every morning):

1 peach or nectarine, in big chunks

handful of fresh blueberries, if available (otherwise, frozen)

handful of fresh raspberries

1/3 c. lowfat cottage cheese

1/3 c. plain lowfat yogurt

5-10 walnut halves

Blend.

When you get this item for less than half the price of a Magic Bullet, I was tempted to buy this Overall it is a good blender and does pretty much most of the things which a Magic bullet can do, but my only disappointment is that it is not built well, here are some details:

Plus:

* Does the job well, but not as good as the Magic bullet. something which would take 1 minute on the Magic bullet would probably take about 1.5 minutes

* Poorly platic quality on the mixer jars The jars have lost their shape to a slight degree after a few times in the dishwasher can't these guys put some decent plastic in their jars ?

* Poor quality gaskets and sealing There is a small rubber gasket (sealant) which seals the blender jar and the blade the gasket is so poorly designed and build that it sometimes leaks and spills liquids into the blender, sometimes drops off into the contents of the blender

Overall, my suggestion is that if you are planning to use this to make some quick smoothies & shakes go ahead and buy this at $17 it is worth every dollar, no need to pay $60 for a Magic bullet.

But if you are planning some heavy kitchen work stay away from this blender you will have to trash this in a 2-3 months.

~ Update: 12/30/2007 ~

If you are planning to buy this blender: I just saw that the price on this item was $59.99 (offered by Macys) it is a ripoff by macys. Try looking elsewhere on the net for prices around $20-$25, or hopefully amazon will offer this directly as better prices.

We received this as a Christmas present 10 months ago and we've used it almost daily since. In that time, the only problem has been a gasket on one of the blending heads coming off. This thing cleans itself very easily: just put in some water and a bit of soap and let it run for a minute. It's fast, it can make small batches, and it cleans easy.

I like it.

The first time I used it I was thrilled with it's performance. The second time I tried to use it the coupler wouldn't fit in. Apparantly I didn't keep the cup in the perfect position the first time I used it and it is no longer usable. I would say that it's quality isn't very good if you can't get more than one use out of it.

Shenzhen Knives White Ceramic Slicing Knife, 5-Inch

Shenzhen Knives White Ceramic Slicing Knife, 5-InchWhile I can't yet address durability issues with either of my Shenzhen knives, I have to say that these knives make a very good first impression. I've waited a long time for ceramic knife prices to drop down into the consumer range, and I've yet to be disappointed with any ceramic I've purchased.

Things you'll notice: ceramic blades tend to be a little thicker than their metallic cousins. At the same time, they're lighter. These are not blades you'll use for hacking through bones, because ceramic blades can chip if abused. They're hard, but hardness means brittleness. (You can break a steel knife, too, if you work at it hard enough.) For ordinary household usage, though, you'll find that ceramics like this are perfectly suited for what you do in the kitchen on a daily basis.

Shenzhen presents itself as a mid-tier brand, and definitely hits the mark where the price point is concerned. Compared to Kyocera I think they probably come in second place (although Shenzhen comes in ahead on the design of the handles, which I like better than the Kyocera handles), but they don't come behind in proportion to the price difference. In general, the Kyocera products are 67% to 100% more expensive than the Shenzhen, and while the Kyoceras are probably better (maybe--I'm still not sure), they're not THAT much better.

This is a great introduction to ceramic knives if you're interested in adding one or more to your kitchen arsenal. Read up on how to treat ceramic knives, though. (Never, ever, EVER in the dishwasher!) You definitely have to take care of them differently than a steel knife--but they don't cause acidic foods to brown, they're easier to clean, and they don't corrode or rust.

The first few weeks, we put the knife back in the box it came in, cradled in foam. Then we set it in a special place on the counter away from everything else. Now we just hand wash and put it in the knife drawer wooden holder with all of the other good knives. My wife is a lot less careful with it than I am. She cut into an avacado and cut right through the seed with a "wow, that's sharp" at the end.

Will try to give an update in a year but so far it was an excellent purchase.

Update: After 3 mos the edge became so dull it was unusable. I've tried sharpening it with several diamond sharpeners but can't return the edge to sharpe. I'll likely end up throwing it away because it is just taking up space.

We were using it daily. If you only use it once or twice a week it could last a year or two.

2nd Update: The vendor responded to my last update with suggestions on sharpening my knife and an offer to replace it since it was dull in 3 mo. First, kudos go to any vendor that cares enough to monitor Amazon product reviews and followup constructively. I have revised my rating to 3 stars because customer service is an impotant part in the purchasing experience and the first knife did last 2 mos with daily use without sharpening (something I can't say about our Henkels). I'll try to leave a review on my experience with the replacement knife.

MIU Flexible Cutting Board, Set of 5

MIU Flexible Cutting Board, Set of 5These flexible cutting boards do exactly what I purchased them to do.

1. eliminate cross contamination by making it easier to keep the meat off the vegetable board.

2. keep me from scarring my counter or wooden board.

3. make it easy to transfer cut food directly into the pan without getting my dough blade dirty (I used to use this to move chopped items from the cutting board into the pan or bowl).

These boards are reasonably thin, which is why they are flexible. I have had two sets for approximately 5 months and will be replacing them soon because they are starting to show significant scarring which I am concerned is accumulating dirt. For those that aren't as obsessive compulsive the boards would probably last twice as long. My wear patterns are from extreme use. I cook everyday and usually for all meals for my family. Since we began concentrating on eating more fruits and vegetables, these boards have gotten a serious workout and have held up better than the other flexible boards that I have tried.

I use these so often that they never make it into the dishwasher. They are easy to wash by hand, and I like to soak them in a weak bleach solution (10%) every day just to be certain they are clean. I wasn't certain these would hold up to the daily bleaching, but they have.

My only complaint is that these slide around a little on the counter. I have found that if you place them on top of a wooden cutting board they do not move around so much. It also works if you place a silicone pastry mat (Silpat) or a couple of silicone potholders under the mat.

I highly recommend these to anyone that is concerned with cross contamination.

I thought these would be much more flexible than they are. We do use them regularly, but they are not nearly so pliable as just picking up and easily curling them to create a funnel for your food. They have a tendancy to snap back, and I wouldn't dare store them rubber-banded up as they would never go flat again. Indeed, our biggest complaint with these is that they just require too much effort to bend one way or another be it rolled up for moving items to the pan or flat on the counter for chopping.

And don't even think about putting them in the dishwasher, even on the gentle cycle, regardless of what the description says! They get even more brittle in the dishwasher and lose what little flexibility they have.

At the end of the day, I wouldn't buy them again.

Buy MIU Flexible Cutting Board, Set of 5 Now

Though these claim to be dishwasher safe, i can say that they are not. After one trip to the dishwasher these have curled so badly that they have become useless. To use these right now i have to put weights in all four corners of the board, and if i try to pick them up, they snap to curl shape so fast whatever rememnants are on the board fly into the air. Avoid these.

For the price these cannot be beat. I use these types of "cutting boards" to protect my nice wooden cutting board from bacteria when preparing meats. I have used several brands and they are all pretty similar, none of them last a long time. I wouldn't honestly recomend them for use on a countertop without something else underneath them.

All of this type of cutting board will curl with use, even more if you put them in the dishwasher. Some more than others though. If you buy the $10 version you might get better results, but when you consider you get 3 of these for $5, its hardly worth buying the more expensive version. Especially when you consider that even the best ones are only going to last a short while with regular use.

I really like the color coding on these mats. They also store easily (do not roll them, just tuck them behind an appliance such as your toaster) and clean up easily. They will definately protect your countertops from nicks and scratches. I often take mine out to cut a bagel or a piece of fruit, then lift it to prevent crumbs or food particles from falling on the countertop/floors and easily rinse them off in the sink. If you cannot afford a good set of wood cutting boards this set will definately do the job. I do not use these too often for meats since I prefer wooden grooved cutting boards, but they will work for that (although juices may run onto your countertops) but these are used multiple times a day in my household for at least the last 6-9 months and are just now needing to be replaced due to a couple of cuts through the mat. They will get a bit stiffer/brittle when washed in the dishwasher so I would not recommend it, but it can be done. What a fantastic invention!

Evriholder Flipper Bytes Sandwich Crust Cutters

Evriholder Flipper Bytes Sandwich Crust CuttersThis is a neat little gadget! I bought it so I could make cute sandwiches for my kids' bento boxes. It works really well. I found that if I sort of smush and flatten the sandwich before you use the cutter it turns out better.

I already have the hearts, trains and dinosaurs, so I was pleased to find the dolphin to supplement our collection.

I love these because they are easy to use and easy to clean. As long as you are using 'typical' sized bread, like Wonder and Nature's Own, there isn't a problem. Just line up the cutter on the bread, make sure you are in a hard, flat surface and push straight down. While pushing, wiggle ever so slightly back and forth to release the crusts from the cutter. Voila! Done.

If the bread is very soft, it will smash the sandwich some. It does take some effort to push it through things like meat and harder cheeses. Sometimes, I would recommend cutting the bread first and separately before you create the sandwich. We like to do this with grilled cheese. Cut the bread, butter the bread, put on the pan and add cheese. Makes it loads easier.

My favorite part is that I can toss these into the dishwasher and not have to think about them again.

Breville BJE200XL Compact Juice Fountain 700-Watt Juice Extractor

Breville BJE200XL Compact Juice Fountain 700-Watt Juice ExtractorI juice at least once a day as I primarily eat raw foods.

My Jack LaLane juicer finally wore out after 2.5 years of daily use. I was tempted to buy another but I liked the way everything including the pulp catcher is all in one unit. So glad I got the Breville.

This thing is POWERFUL, especially compared to "Jack LaLanne". It is so powerful I usually don't even use the pusher except to cover the top so your ceiling doesn't get covered with stuff. Other reviewers have mentioned that tendency. What wasn't mentioned is that the reason it does that is because the motor is so beefy that stuff will shoot straight up.

When juicing soft stuff I immediately cover the top with my hand.

The design of this thing is absolutely first rate. Even down to the plug, which has a moulded loop so that it is easy to unplug and plug in! No tool is required to remove the basket, as in most other juicers. Breville uses a combo of ingenious design and magnets to hold it in place!

Ease of use and fit and finish is perfect.

Clean up is really a 2 minute operation and I don't even own a dishwasher. It will stain eventually, as every juicer I have ever owned does. Carrot juice would make a great dye :-)

The pulp on this juicer is a bit wetter than the Jack LaLanne. The "Jack" had a much larger basket and a much slower rotation. I believe that may account for it. But it isn't much wetter just very slightly.

This juicer makes much smaller pieces of pulp though and my experience so far has been that it gets just as much juice from a pound of carrots.

Bottom line I can't imagine anyone not loving this unit.

UPDATE 3/26/2011 This thing is still going strong 3.5 years later. Folks I buy carrots by the 25 pound bag so I am HARD on juicers. And not one part has needed replacement!

This is my third juicing machine. My first was a Champion which served without problems for years. On the plus side it was powerful and durable. On the down side it was rather noisy, vibrated a lot and left a lot of juice in the pulp and was hard to clean. My second juicer was the omega screw machine which I still have. I bought it because it also did wheat grass. On the plus side it is quiet and juices anything, makes nut butter and extracts a lot of juice leaving very dry pulp. On the down side it is slow and worst of all the feed tube is really small. You have to do a lot of cutting to get things small enough to get into the feed tube. I pretty much only use it for wheatgrass now. The Breville is the best juicer I have had. It is an example of good product design in that it is simple, practical and attractive. It is powerful, has a feed tube large enough to take large whole carrots, beets and small apples. It is quiet, comes apart easy and cleans up quickly. The capture pitcher which nests into the machine has a nice cover so you can store the juice for later. If making juice is a hassle you're going to put off doing it. This juicer makes juicing easy and not a hassle.

Update Apr 2013 Still juicing! I make about a quart of green juice a day. The shredding disc and steel mesh were showing signs of staining and minor clogging. The residue wouldn't come off with hand-washing, so I decided to try some serious cleansing using a spray-on oven cleaner. Bingo! All the residue came off easily, opening all the clogged mesh holes and rejuvenating the shredding disc. None of the original parts have broken or cracked. I remain very satisfied with this juicer.

Update Dec 2012 The Breville Compact Juice Fountain works like new after 11 months of daily use! There have been no issues with the motor. The plastic parts have held up well but are veggie-stained. The shredding disc isn't as sharp as it was on Day 1, but it still works great. When the time comes, Breville sells replacement parts online.

Update June 2012 Still using the Breville twice daily and it continues to work well. No broken parts.

Original Review: Prior to purchasing the Breville Compact Juice Fountain, I researched other models and selected the Breville for its features and excellent customer reviews. I've been using the juicer daily since Jan 18, 2012 and continue to be satisfied with the unit. As with any centrifugal juicer, the pulp may not be "bone dry" due to the nature of the juicing process. But I'm not a purist, and any increase in my fruit & veggie intake is an improvement!

PROS of this unit

* The motor is powerful. The toughest veggie I've juiced is a quarter head of purple cabbage, no problem. Whole kale leaves, celery, carrots, broccoli, beets...juiced regularly without any trouble. I haven't tried juicing a sweet potato yet.

*Quick and easy to clean because there are only 4 parts: the food pusher, feed chute / pulp collection lid, pulp collection container and steel micro mesh filter. See in the video how effortless the Compact Juice Fountain is to assemble. I prefer this model to my friend's juicer that has the side-mounted pulp basket.

* Juice spout fits nicely into the opening of the pitcher lid. Juice doesn't splash all over the counter.

* Compact size makes it easy to leave on the counter to encourage frequent, if not daily, use. The pulp collection container measures 9 inches in diameter.

* Froth separator lid works well to separate the froth from the juice when pouring into a glass. Save the froth! It will liquify into more juice.

* There's a handy cord wrap in the base of the unit.

* Juicer cover, pulp container, filter basket and pitcher are listed as dishwasher safe. I prefer to hand-wash! Note that the inside of the juice collector (under the mesh filter basket) needs to be scrubbed well to prevent build-up.

CONS of this unit

* One speed means you cannot slow the shredder basket down for tough or leafy greens. I compensate by packing the chute with green and feeding it s-l-o-w-l-y.

* Small slices of fruit or veggies end up unshredded in the pulp container because there is a small gap between the bottom of the food chute and the shredding blades of the filter basket. The slices are thin enough (1/16 to 1/8") to fit through the gap. See the video for actual pulp results.

* The juice dispensing hole is hard to clean and gets a build-up. A small bottle brush gets some of it out.

TIPS for juicing and cleaning

* Rinse or clean the juicer immediately after juicing. Dried pulp is hard to clean off the mesh filter basket.

* Juice slowly for better results.

* Juice leafy greens first, then juicier fruits will wash the healthy green into the pitcher.

* Stack spinach into compact piles, and pack into the chute. This way whole baby leaves won't end up in the pulp container. Fill the chute and allow the juicer to slowly shred the greens. Add broccoli, grapes, brussels sprouts, etc. to the food chute while there is still some spinach at the bottom...no more broccoli florets all over the kitchen =)

* Nest and roll big leaves like kale and collards. You can even tuck a small piece of ginger inside for more efficient juicing.

Hope this helps you make an informed decision about which juicer best fits your needs. Happy Juicing!

OK, there are a million pro juicers here who can tell you all the reasons this type of juicer is best, another million who can tell you why a SLOW juicer like the Champion Brand are best if you want leafy greens juiced. My only experience until this week was with an OLD 15 year old juicer we paid about $70.00 for that took about a grocery CART full of fruits & veggies just to get a 12 oz. glass 1/2 full!

As a result, we used it one time and set it out in the garage until I finally sold it for $20.00 last month. But I saw a Jack La Lane infomercial and came to trusty old Amazon.com to see about trying again since these NEW juicers get more juice (or DO they?). I start reading and see so many more people liking this particular brand over Jacks model so then go to YouTube sniffing around. I take A MONTH DECIDING and bought this juicer from Amazon directly. Used it for just 2 days so I have no way to tell you about how it is best or worse, how it is changing my life, or anything earth shattering.

But I DO have something I CAN tell you. I don't even want a beer anymore. And I like beer. A LOT!!!! I haven't even tried any of the GREAT selection of included recipes that came included with the juicer. I just tossed in about 4 carrots, 1 small pear, 2 pieces of celery, 2 small red apples and it made over 16 ounces of juice! Blows my old mind (short trip). The weirdest thing of all to me at 60 years of age is I HATE carrots. HATE them. ANY form, hate them. Now, I can't get enough. And even weirder, I wasn't able to even eat any breakfast as I was too full. I don't remember anyone saying juice would fill me up. Usually if I had a V8 it just made me want a beer to go WITH it.

So all the expert juicers can decide which brand is best, which style is best. For my recreational use and for my being able to EASILY take it apart and fully clean in 10 minutes (and I am disabled, no, NOT from the beer!), I do a very rare thing. I give this a 5 star rating. As my experience with it grows, I will update this review as required as to reliability, stamina etc. My last and only prior juicer was such a nightmare to clean AND use, got NO juice, it makes this nothing less than shocking. To have so much juice, so much GREAT flavor, almost fun to operate and clean, who knows.....I may just end up skinny & healthy. But then after today's tomato. celery & zucchini with onion experiment, I can see myself wondering what a little Vodka might do for a little added flavor? Probably lucky for me that the only alcohol I ever liked was beer......

If I get into this in a big way and discover I like leafy green stuff juiced, and find this will NOT do that well, I will find someway to go the BIG bucks for a slow turning juicer that does that type juicing best. Heck, maybe I can recycle all my old beer cans to pay for it? Can't believe it took me 60 years to find a HEALTHY way to get juiced.

2 week update. After using this twice a day some days, once per day everyday for over a week I have problems. One, we have now ruined MORE than the cost of our juicer is clothing stains from flying juice and "pieces" no matter how careful we are. It also has the dreaded "pulp trapped inside the seam between the clear part and the grey plastic" problem. I have tried to no end to contact the manufacturer. On hold with voice mail for over 1 HOUR, then instructed to leave my phone number to have them call me back=NEVER did. Sent email=NO response. Will SADLY now request a return from Amazon on this product I first loved but now is a problem as well as a health risk. I will also buy a juicer with a warranty LONGER than just ONE year. I tried to revise my 5 star rating but Amazon does NOT allow me to do this. I would drop it to 2 stars IF I knew it was not a serious health risk due to the hassle with NO customer service in my case. If I knew for sure it IS a serious health risk, I would drop it to NO stars. But then Amazon will not let me do this either.....

1/23/2009 UPDATE:

This juicer has been returned and I have now owned the new Omega 8006 for a few weeks. Did a FULL review at Epinions of it. What an amazing difference.

1 YEAR 2 week later update:

The Omega Model 8006 is still being used as well as a L Equip XL Wide Mouth Mini Juicer. Still lost over 50 pounds, STILL haven't had or even wanted a beer in over a year. And both of these models are easy to clean and trap no unhealthy food particulate in any crevices etc. Tried & true good solid juicers being used daily.

Mike

2 Year Update: Just sold the L Equip. Probably (well "maybe") going to sell our Omega Juicer as well. Been using a Vitamix 5200 the past few months also. I know it isn't "real" juicing since I also eat the entire product. But for quick & easy, saving 70% on the fruits & veggies, making soups etc? I just got lazy I guess? But to get an idea, go create my meal, clean up & be sitting at the table in 5 minutes? What would ANY lazy old goat like me do? Oh, and for what it's worth, it is now over 2 years without a single beer.....

____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Update after almost 4 years.

Never sold this juicer. Even though out Vitamix is a daily workhorse there are still times we use this for juice with NO pulp. As rare as that is, we just find it indispensable for when the mood strikes....For serious juicers, I have found a website that offers the BEST info anywhere. Even though I buy from Amazon (on a daily basis for ALL my needs) I get my best guidance on the latest products from

John Kohler who owns that company also has a Youtube site and recently showed an all new Omega Blender he feels will be a Vitamix killer? Well maybe not.... Hope all this has helped. Vitamix just announced yet an all new model that will not require hearing protection like my 5200 does too. And the beat goes on!

Want Breville BJE200XL Compact Juice Fountain 700-Watt Juice Extractor Discount?

This was the best appliance purchase I have ever made! This juicer is very sharp looking. Looks great in any kitchen. It is compact but kinda tall. The best part is it's ability to juice in a second. Very powerful motor. It fact probably more powerful than I needed but it doesnt hurt to have the best. I bought this juicer so I can make fresh juice for my toddlers, myself and husband every day. Now my girls get fresh apple, pear, carrot, grape and strawberry juice. I absolutely love cucumber and apple juice. Cucumber juice is so refreshing and I could drink a ton a day. My husband loves the bloody mary juice. A tomato, celery and onion and then a dash of hot sauce. We can get 4 times as much fruits and veggies in a day by juicing then by eating alone. I dont want to sit around and eat 8 carrots or celery sticks but I can easily drink that in a day. I cant stand eating melons but I drink them with an apple in this juicer. I dont even have to chop up most of my veggies and fruit. The entry hole is so big, an apple, cucumber, tomato etc. fits great. As long as you buy your fruit organic you can dont have to peel most of your fruits and veggies. Get a good juicing book and it will tell you what fruits and veggies you can juice whole. The ultimate is the easy clean up with this juicer. It tastes less than a minute to clean the entire thing. Yes, the pieces are plastic, except for the base of the motor, but can you imagine how heavy this thing would be if it were glass?? And I have dropped it a few times in the sink and I would have broken the pieces if it were glass. I am now going to start a composting bin for all the scraps from my juicer. That is one of the benefits of juicing too. You can use the leftovers for compost or depending on the fruit or veggie can use for a loaf or bread. Like carrot, apple or zuccini pulp can be used to bake tasty loafs. I am just an average Mom who bought this juicer. For all the other Moms out there.........buy this!

Stella Artois Stainless Steel Foam Skimmer

Stella Artois Stainless Steel Foam SkimmerNot to many people know what a beer skimmer is used for, how it works is after you pour your draft beer you let the head foam over slitly, then swipe the flat of the skimmer to cut off the extra foam and this in turn seals in the flavor and carbonation of the beer, making a good beer taste even better. this skimmer I ordered works perfect for that, very high quality. So if a skimmer is what your looking for I would highly recomend this one.

I was absolutely surprised at the weight of this item. Truly thought it would be just a plastic knife and that is not what you will get. It feels classy and the steel skimmer has a special sheen to it so it will look very nice on your bar.

Prepara Trio-Tri Blade Peeler

Prepara Trio-Tri Blade PeelerThis peeler is easy to use and peels very well. At first I thought it was going to be impossible to clean, because it came without any instructions at all, and the method for removing the blade cartridge from the handle is not instantly obvious. However, you can do this, and even remove the blades from the blade cartridge and wash them separately. Because there are three blades that can retract into the handle, the handle is big (about 5" circumference, which makes a diameter of about 1.5" I think). This is good when you are using it, and less good when you are storing it.

The only reason I haven't given it 5 stars is that cleaning is still a bit of a pain. If you are peeling anything juicy (even, for example, carrots) the juice can get into the handle and so forth, so you have to clean up the whole thing inside and out each time you use it. When opposed to a normal peeler where you just have to wash one blade and a simple handle, it is a bit of extra work. Of course if you're putting it in the dishwasher it probably doesn't matter, but I'm in an apartment and my discwasher isn't entirely reliable, so I'm washing it by hand.

BTW, in case you are interested, here is the method for removing the blade cartridge from the handle. It will be easier if I explain how you change blades first. To position a blade for use, you turn the bottom of the handle until the picture of the blade you want is directly below the slide button. Then you slide the button toward the tip of the peeler to expose the blade. To change blades, you push the slide button back toward the end of the handle, turn the handle two "thunks" until the next blade is in position, and then push up the slide button. To REMOVE the cartridge with all three blades in it, you stop at the "thunk" in between two of the blades, and then push the slide button an extra bit further toward the end of the handle. (The button won't go all the way to the bottom unless you are between the blades.) Then the cartridge pops right out. It's not rocket science, but it's not obvious right away. In this case a picture (or rather a diagram) really would be worth a lot of words.

Prepara Trio-Tri Blade Peeler

Where have you been all my life? This is the best of kitchen tools. The handle makes it easy to manage. The clean-up is easy. And there is no drag when peeling tomatoes, peaches or cucumbers.

Sometimes I like the skin off my tomato and this does the job perfectly! Need some romas peeled for a dish, you don't have to blanch them to get the skin off. This peeler does exactly what it is meant to do.

I did not give this a full Five stars, because I thought the overall Build/Quality is not as sturdy as just your single blade peelers.

This was a great and versatile peeler until it broke after only a few months of use. The plastic seems a bit shabby. It stained and didn't come clean in the top rack of the dishwasher. Went to use it one day and the part that inserts into the handle stopped connecting to the body of the utensil.

Prepara Trio-Tri Blade Peeler This is a great peeler!!! It is easy to use and having three blades in one makes it very convenient and saves space as well. I had to peel an avocado and it peeled it with no problem. I saw this product being reviewed on Cooks Illustrated.com, which gave it the highest review. The price is right and I have decided to buy it as Christmas presents for my daughters-in-law. Thanks for a great product.

Victorinox Swiss Classic 4-Piece Steak Knife Set, 4-1/2-Inch Serrated Blades with Round Tip

Victorinox Swiss Classic 4-Piece Steak Knife Set, 4-1/2-Inch Serrated Blades with Round TipYes, these make great steak knives. Certain cultures prefer rounded tips on table knives as a matter of courtesy. Most won't ever think about this, but it's a nice gesture if your guests are picky about such things.

A simple detail that most manufacturers overlook is which side to put the serrations on. Having serrations on the wrong side can cause your steak knife to bind or leave jagged cuts in your food. Eating should be a pleasure, and struggling with your food is scarcely conducive to that. Thankfully, these knives have the serrations on the right hand side (which is the correct side if you're right handed. This will cause the smaller portion to fall away from the larger portion, rather than having the knife bind in your food. A small detail, but one that is easily overlooked.

Yes, these are great on the table, but they're also really quite handy in the kitchen. I find that I reach for these far more often than I would have anticipated. They're perfect for slicing a bagel/baguette, carving a cornish hen, butterflying/pocketing a fillet, and any other number of assorted tasks that you don't necessarily want a larger knife for.

The only failing of this knife is that it makes a terrible paring knife. This can scarcely be counted against it since this knife was never intended to be a paring knife. Nonetheless, several comments have mentioned using it as a paring knife, and I must disagree. The very same serrations that make perfect sense on the dinner table make no sense at all on the kitchen counter. The serrations are then on the wrong side (if you're paring towards yourself) and cause the knife to slip off of the food. If you're right handed, these serrations are great for cutting away from yourself, and terrible for cutting towards yourself.

I have had an identical set for some years now, and though a trifle flimsy, I have not noticed any wear and tear in the handles at all. I only bought another set because they were available at such an excellent price. I feel very confident that I will be using my original set for years to come. And should they ever become lost (which is a much greater danger than them ever wearing out), I will have replacements waiting.

There appear to be several identical sets on Amazon.com right now at different prices. I am unclear if there is any difference, but it would behoove you to search for every version of this set.

I was eating dinner on the couch and accidentally stabbed my hand with a pointed steak knife. About a week later I bought this set. The knifes are much lighter than what I've used at the nice steak houses. They don't appear that sharp but they're awesome for cutting through a steak. These are the only knifes I use for eating dinner.

Not particularly fancy or elegant but these knives get the job done very nicely. They make short work of even cuts of meat that aren't so tender. I like the rounded, blunt tips of this design as I don't see any advantage to the pointed tips most steak knives come with. As the other reviewer noted they are handy in the kitchen too for slicing smaller baked items that my normal bread knife would be too large for. Four stars because of the price only.

these knives were very good quality, they have a nice finish. Should work great for our church dinners so that we can put butter dishes out with a knife on each dish. Something we had been thinking about doing for a while.

JUst FYI, these are not what typical AMericans would call a "butter knife." They are butter spreaders, like you might put out with soft cheese or butter. They have no serrated edge, and they are half the length of a butter knife.

Chicago Cutlery Forum 10-Piece Block Set

Chicago Cutlery Forum 10-Piece Block SetChicago knives are a good quality product, a nice middle-of-the-road step between Farberware (which is too expensive for its poor quality) and Wustof (which is well worth the money but out of the price range of many). Amazon had by far the lowest prices on the sets, and with free shipping the deal got even better. I highly recommend these to anyone looking for a solid set of knives that will last at least a few decades. Also, the in-block sharpener is incredibly convenient.

This is a great knife set for the money. It is sleek looking and the knives are easy to hold for my small hands. The knives arrive razor sharp. I like that you only have the basics; everything I need is in a small holder. It takes little room on the counter.

Beautiful set, sharp and so far, very good quality. It cuts like butter and I really hope they hold up for a lifetime. If not, I hope that lifetime warranty is as good it promises. I've only hand washed and dried these they're never touching a dishwasher.

I am pleased with this set and think the price was good. A very useful selection of knives are included and it has a built-in sharpener, which is handy. The knives feel nice in your hand and are nicely balanced. Other comments complained about rust spots. I have not put these in the dishwasher; I've been washing them by hand, which I don't mind, and have not noticed any rust or other discolorations. Again, for the price, this is a nice set that includes all the main knives you need.

Chef Works CPGS-000 Black and White Chalkstripe J54 Cargo Pants, Size L

Chef Works CPGS-000 Black and White Chalkstripe J54 Cargo Pants, Size LMy nephew, a chef by profession, loves these. He swears by Chef Works. From what he says, these run a little big. He's more like an XL but he always wants the large ones.

I have worn these now all year and they have held up very well in the kitchen. The fabric is breathable and much cooler than even that of the cheaper Chef Works pants. They are quite a bit baggier than I had anticipated, but being cargo pants this is not unusual. The waist is elastic with a drawstring so fit was always excellent despite never being tied. All the pockets and seams are holding up well despite occasionally being caught on various kitchen obstacles that I was sure would have caused a tear. I definitely recommend these pants to someone looking for a relatively inexpensive, quality pair that will hold up well.
