It's big, it's beautiful and it the smell reminds me of the beach! the straw mats you lay on It is thick and heavy and sturdy.....love the two tone. Just hand wash (and if you have hard water dry with a cloth right away) and keep some bamboo oil on hand and your set for a loooong time! :)

It's a little expensive compare to other bamboo cutting boards in local supermarket, but good quality and perfect weight (not too heavy).

I read some places that when you buy cheap bamboo cutting boards that splintering can be a problem, but I didn't think it would be a concern upon receiving the item before any usage.

To try and rectify the problem, I washed it thoroughly with soap and warm water, dried completely, and finished with two generous coats of bamboo oil.

It seemed to diminish the amount of visible splinters, but to be fair I haven't used the cutting board since. I will give it a try with some dark-colored vegetables as a "trial" and see if it is good or not. Hopefully my mind will change and my rating will go up.

I found online for an extra-large cutting board, and this is the one I found with a reasonable price. It is nice and looks beautiful. The only consideration is that bamboo feels soft when I cutting something on it.

We bought this bamboo cutting board from Target and within about six months the bottom side had mold visibly spreading just underneath/inside the surface (permeating the board). Such as it is, we'll now be investing in an Epicurean cutting board instead, which will be more sterile and maintenance free. Aside from the mold, this was a great cutting board for the short time we used it, and looks nice on a counter top. Just be sure to take special care in thoroughly air drying it after cleaning and perhaps using a special treatment to prevent the setting in of mold/bacteria. That's only my guess as to preventing this issue, though.

Ginsu Chikara Series 2 Piece Japanese 420J2 Stainless Steel Carving Set with 8-InchCarving Knife an

Got this knife as a present for my parents as their carving set is a million years old and dull. Didn't have much to spend but the price made me a little wary anyway as I didn't want a cheap knife. Didn't have anything to worry about as it turns out. Overall, I am very pleased with the knife and fork. The knife was incredibly sharp, had a good weight,and a thick blade so it did not bend at all. It went through the turkey like it was cutting butter. Can't speak to the longevity obviously, but this was really nice for the price.

The case is better than other reviews have indicated. The top easily slid off and the case is made of heavier wood than I had anticipated. The entire package is more formidable than I would have thought given the price so that was good. The only drawback of the case is the glass in the top is very flimsy, probably would crack or break very easily if you are not careful, but hey, who really cares that much. At the end of the day you could toss the top and still have a nice box in which to hold the knife.

The knife will probably arrive a little dusty. Mine seemed to have some carbon powder, I'm guessing it was sharpened and immediately packaged, so I made sure to wash it before I gifted it.

UPDATE

Had a chance to use this knife on a few occasions now and it is ridiculously sharp. Went through a ham like butter and carved a turkey in no time. There are better knives at higher prices but this is definitely a good one at this price.

I've had this set for several months now and it stands up very well. The knife holds an extremely sharp edge with minimal honing after every use. It's well balanced and slices through meats and birds with ease. Yes the box is relatively cheap but that is secondary for me. It holds the set in a drawer and isn't a display piece. Keeps the set free from knicks and scratches and looks fine. Mine was easy to open and close unlike the previous reviewer.

I bought this knife for thanksgiving this pasr November, and it worked great. The blade lenght was fine, ans the fork was plenty long. I would say if you are looking for an all around entry-point carving set, this will fit the bill.

FYIAs I have used this all of one time, I cant speak to the longevity of this set.

The knife set is just okay. The china stamp is on the blade and the filings are visible, typical Chinese workmanship. Cheap quality but will do the trick for my needs to take camping and just not to care what will happend with it. My other meat fork is made in Germany costs more and much better quality.

The wooden box, bamboo, came in cracked on the bottom and is a total throw away. I really do not need the box but could use it for other purposes.

Wil contact the seller about the cracked box.

Will not recommend this item but if if you need something that does the trick it will work. Next time I will spend more money for a better set. I think the better set worth the money.

These steak knives are very attractive but are best used on meat. There is a curve to the blade which cuts other foods such as tomatoes or even bananas weirdly. It does not cut straight down but pulls to the side when cutting. I use my steak knives as general purpose knives so for me these knives are just not what I needed. They were inexpensive, however, so I just use them for meat and will buy other knives for all purpose cutting

Chicago Cutlery Landmark 8-Inch Slicer, Sheath Packaging

I love Chicago Cutlery's Landmark series. The knives are extremely sharp, and rarely need sharpening. I have an entire set of the wooden handled, original Chicago Cutlery knives, which were never even close to this sharp, even though I thought they were OK (I didn't know what I was missing)! These are exceptional, as is the price for this kind of quality. The black and silver look is elegant. I own the 5-inch slicer, 8-inch slicer and chef's knife, and bought the larger knives because the 5-inch slicer had become my main utility knife that I used for almost everything unless it required a parer. Highly recommended.

Everytime I use this spatula, I recall the scene in Uncle Buck where John Candy was making pancakes on a big piece of sheet metal & a snow shovel then says, "This is where you separate the men from the boys." All joking aside, this spatula is well made & it'd be the 1st thing I grab for a big job. Its smaller model is excellent too but this one is best when you need that little extra help. In addition to it being a well made spatula, it's great if you want to pretend to be Wolverine on a cooking show. Schwinnng....I cook what I wanna cook, bub.

Seriously, there is no spatula that compares to this (for this style of spatula, of course). For the amazing quality of this, it's absolutely dirt-cheap. You will never have to buy another one. Ever. Even expensive varieties, such as A11 Cl@d, use a separate piece of metal delicately welded onto the metal in the handle, which can rust. This has only one piece of super high-quality metal making up the whole thing, enclosed in a high-quality handle. The metal is thin enough to be ever-so-slightly flexible, yet sturdy enough to pick up surprisingly heavy things. (Again, very high-quality metal.) I would expect something of this quality to be at least $90. I got this larger one, because sometimes I make crèpes, frittatas, etc., that benefit from a larger surface; yet a small thing, such as a single fried egg, will work nicely, too. This thing is amazing! Buy it. Now. You know you want to... ;)

Villeroy & Boch New Cottage Cutlery 5-Piece Place Setting

I have always though very highly of Villeroy and Boch products. I ordered 6 sets of New Cottage Cutlery Setting. One set had a knife that had heavy staining of rust. I never seen a brand new set of flatware, especially Villeroy and Boch's price point, having rust in the flatware set. I return this particular set (Great Amazon.com return policy!) and waited for another set. Unfortunately, the set was temporarily out of stock. So I waited for about 2 weeks for the new set to arrive. And when I opened the new set, the knife also had a small rust spot where the blade meets the handle. I try to remove the rust with Barkeeper's Friend, then I found a small defect on the finish of the knife. This unfinished metal was the cause of the rust build-up. Then I finally found the country of origin of the knife. Guess where it's made??? China. I was very disappointed. So I return this set and was willing to wait for another set. Then Amazon.com wrote that most likely another set will have the same problem and won't bother to sent a replacement set for me. They will only credit me back this set. So now I only have 5 flatware sets. So should I keep them and find another set somewhere else? Or should I return all of them???

I love this set of flatware. I had none of the problems that other reviewer had. I've had them over a year and they are not rusting and I have no problems with any of them. I had ordered twelve sets and plan on ordering more in case they ever get discontinued because they are so pretty.

Too little information provided in description, knife has a 12" blade or larger and is made of inferior steel. Spend the extra money if you're a professional cook and get a Shun. Sending this knife back immediately, my Shun is already on the way.

I bought this knife in January, 2011, right after watching a "How It's Made" segment on TV in which Dexter was featured in one of the episodes. I was so impressed I immediately went surfing for a Dexter kitchen knife as I was sick to death of the knife I had been using. I was tickled to death to find this knife at Amazon and even MORE tickled when it arrived and I could use it. The blade is thin but tough as nails and SHARP doesn't begin to describe the edge on it! I stopped using my "slap chopper" because I can do the job with this knife better, nearly as quickly and have only a single blade to rinse off. I don't think you can buy a BETTER knife for any amount of money!

This really is an excellent bargain. I keep a bbq tool kit in the back of the car when I travel and this is just what you need: Excellent, service-grade functionality in an economical package. Its not a knife for people who want an expensive-looking but mediocre knife on display in the kitchen block. Full-tang, riveted handles, blade that you can easily put a razors edge to with a ceramic stick sharpener. Holds that edge well. It gives 90% of the functionality that you would get from a layered VG-10 faux damascus premium kitchen knife at 25% of the price. Plus I double-dare you to find one of those at any price in this size, which is best suited to large cookouts with piles of roasts that need slicing.

July 2012: Hauled out this knife and used it to slice up about a dozen tri-tip roasts at a barbecue... Held its edge very well with no sharpening necessary during the job (thats unusual), and best of all I can't remember a time when I felt so little fatigue from slicing one roast after another after another. No fancy ergonomic handles required. Just a big blade and basic functional handle. Still very pleased with this purchase.
