I do like to add grated cheese to macaroni and cheese dishes when their cheese flavor needs a little help. I would have preferred one with a hole for slicing the cheese, but I liked the size of this one. When it came in the mail I wasted no time in putting it to work and found it to be satisfactory in grating cheese. One side has larger holes than the other so you can control how finely you want to grate the cheese, which is nice. It is easy to clean and is pretty flat so it does not take up much room in the drawer. Ginsu Essential Series 4-Piece 4.5-Inch Stainless Steel Steak Knife Set with Triple Riveted Polymer
If you're of a certain age, you probably remember the ultra-cheesy Ginsu commercials from the 70s and 80s, full of soda-can slicing and wood hacking and the like. I must say I hesitated to buy these because I still associate the Ginsu name with tacky infomercials. However, I needed steak knives and, frankly, the less you spend on steak knives, the more you have left to spend on steak. So I took a chance on a set of these. They're great! They feel good in the hand, they look nice, they're sturdy, and they're sharp as anything. I just put another set in my shopping cart, in fact.Incidentally, my last set of steak knives was a fancy Henckels set. They were nice; they were sharp; they lasted a few years. But the fact is, none of these newfangled serrated blades can be sharpened, and the Henckels eventually got too dull to handle a sirloin. These will get dull too, I know, in a few years of hard use. But it won't hurt so much to pitch 'em when they only cost me $2.50 per knife.
Only drawback it doesn't come with a wooden storage block....am VERY satisfied...!!These knives are wonderful. They are always sharp and work well for all kitchen jobs, as well as for cutting meats. So far I haven't had any problem with the sharpness of each knife. They still seem to be as sharp as when I first bought them. Be careful around children-they could really hurt themselves, because these knives are super sharp.I felt compelled to write an interview on these knives because of how awful they turned out to be!! I bought them exactly TWO MONTHS AGO and they are already showing rust signs on three out of four of the knives!!! I am sure the fourth will begin to rust soon. As for the Ginsu "warranty", it would cost more to file the warranty claim then to just buy a new set. This buy was horrible for meWe bought these to replace our aging everyday knife set. I had purchased serveral inexpensive knife sets before buying the Ginsu's and returned them all. We use our steak knives for slicing up everything from carrots to cheese for our kids. The big test for me was how well a knife could cut cheese. If the blade is too flimsy, you can't control the cut. If the blade is too thick it makes it difficult to cut through the cheese. These Ginsu's passed the test with flying colors and the price was right. We've had the knives for a couple of months and are still happy with them. I'm sure they will eventually dull with age, but we haven't seen any signs of that yet.

The blade is incredibly thin and almost dangerously sharp! It is fantastic for cutting vegetables and meat. Time will tell if the thin blade holds it sharpness. The handle is cheap plastic, and not up to the quality standard of the blade.

This paring knife is perfectly balanced and just the right shape and length. I would never use any other paring knife. I bought a high end paring knife, and it broke with in a year. Well, it is Chicago Cutlery, so sharp is what you get!! I love the traditional edges on these and have never been a fan of serrated edges except for my steak knives. Due to the natural wood, you need to keep the handles oiled or they will dry out. They hold an edge very well, but keep your rattail handy for when it burrs down. I bought this to complement a comparable 25 year old Chicago Cutlery paring knife we have used daily for this time. There is no comparison. The new one has a wispy blade that bent immediately when I tried to pry apart some frozen goods. The old one did this hundreds of times without any problems. Clearly a "program for profit" at CC led to cheaper steel. Doesn't say so on the product, but probably Chinese manufacture. In a cutting device, this is not the way to go. Just love it and cannot buy locally even at kitchen stores. The only bad thing was the guards to cover the blades are flimsy plastic and will rip quickly. This is wonderful to chop onions and herbs. It is a well kept secret not many cooks have one.

I have and use "sharpening" steels. They sharpen nothing. They are properly used to stand up the teeth (which you cannot see with the naked eye) that you bent over by smashing them down against the food you cut. This will stand them up over and again, until they break off. Then you NEED a sharpener.This is a sharpener that looks like a steel. The diamond dust on the surface lets you cut new teeth into your knifes. You just stroke a few times, then do the other side. You can choose the angle. 22 degrees or so is normal. Many like the super sharp 12 degree. But that dulls faster, and is not so good for tougher cutting. A cleaver may have a more aggressive pitch. Then you go back to the first side for another two or three more. Then a final stroke on each side.
The diamond wand will even allow you to dispense with the steel altogether if you do not like the procedure and you do not care about the increased rate of wear. Ever see an old, busy butcher with knives that have a very small depth to their blades? They are not made that way. They have just been honed that many times.
You might prefer the oval to the round shape. But I saw only oval steels on Amazon, not the diamond sharpener. F. Dick makes superior quality, long lasting sharpeners and steels both.
Also, this is what you need for the hardest steel knives that take forever on a stone. Finally, you must use diamond on ceramic. That is the only way to restore that razor sharpness.

This bag is amazing. It holds much more than you would expect because the fabric stretches as needed to fit bulky and odd shaped containers. I usually fit two Smart Ones frozen entrees lying flat on the bottom, then there is room for other items, yogurt cup, fruit, chips, soda, etc on top. If you put the entrees standing up, you have room to fit a taller item to the side, plus more room horizontally in front of the entrees. The size is deceiving at first, but play with it and you will be surprised how much you can fit inside. I have packed LARGE round Tupperware/Rubbermaid containers, etc and they fit! The insulation factor is just for a few hours, so it's perfect to take lunch to work. But not longer than that unless you add a frozen block. I also really like the long detachable and adjustable length shoulder strap. Finally, if anything leeks, clean up is super easy. Just turn inside out and run under warm water, add liquid soap if needed, rinse and air dry. It dries fast and good as new.

the teaspoons are not real teaspoons, they are more like baby spoons.The forks are for small people in other words the are too small. the dinner fork is really a salad fork and the salad fork is a smaller salad fork. Not really happy with the purchase but will live will live it. the pictures looked good but were deceiving in actual size. I will say that when I did get the wrong soup spoons they did get the order corrected.
The weakest part of this set is the absence of a few pieces: Appetizer Knife, Butter Spreader , and Bouillon Spoon (all of which are offered in the Baguette design) and a Fruit Fork, Fruit Knife, Fruit/Citrus Spoon, Oyster Fork (with three prongs), and Salt Spoon which are not offered in any of the Taiwon Metal patterns. But that only highlights exactly how perfect this set is for multi-course meals or restaurants with different dishes. One can easily built a 7-12-course meal with this set.

Wenger Grand Maitre 4-Piece Cook's Set with Swiss Army Knife
I am very pleased with this knife set. They are scary sharp, comfortable and safe to grip, and hold an edge.They are also a very good deal. They are nearly identical to the top rated R.H. Forschner/Victorinox knives, but the Wengers are much harder to find in the U.S. and only sell in sets.
In Europe, these same knives, with bright yellow handles are the top sellers to professional chefs under Wenger's SWIBO brand.
The 3 piece Wenger Grand Maitre and 3 Piece Forschner/Fibrox sets sell for $55-$60 on Amazon, so this 4 piece set with Swiss Army throw in is a deal.
On the down side while they are tough, they are very light weight/not full tang/stamped not forged. These attributes will effect aesthetics, not use, safety, or reliability. They are not nearly as pretty as my Wusthof knives, and the free SA knife is a small but handy pocket type. The box they come in is not fancy.
Note that the bread and utility knife are both serrated, the paring and chef are smooth blades.
At well under $8 per knife, a full five stars.
Other than the bread knife, I have used the other three. The paring knife was good for peeling apples, a bit too sharp though. The utility knife was good for cutting oranges, although I would like it to be harder and thicker. The chef's knife was perfect for cutting vegetables and meat, and was super sharp, sharper than any knife I have used, so be careful when handling it.
Overall, super value for the price.
One more thing to add:
Be careful with the knife, I am looking at two new cuts on my finger when I am typing. They are much bigger/deeper than if I used my other, dull, knife. I will keep using the knife, but only when necessary.
