Just received this set in the mail. First Impression is that it's even more beautiful than it looked on line. Outset seems to be a cut above the rest of the field in grilling tools. I actually only got the whole three piece set because it was the same price, on sale, as the tongs alone. Was going to just get a set of Xtra long OXO stainless tongs, and saw the Outset Jackson's, which have same lockable design, but the sweet rosewood and extra length. So far so good, I'll update after I use them for a while as to the quality. I think I might just grab a few more sets of these to give as gifts for discerning grillers on my list.I thought they were very eye appealing, but was disapointed with their ability to pick up things. They do not meet at the bottom to grab things small, they move from side to side also adding to the problem of lifting things up, I would not recommend them for these reasons.
Kuhn Rikon Corn Zipper, Stainless
I recently purchased the corn zipper. Absolutely terrific gadget. Fast, fun to use, easy to use and a nice sturdy quality tool. I have other gadgets for removing corn from the cob but this one is by far the best.
Very well made (as are all Kuhn-Rikon products) in hefty stainless, with very sharp blades. The blade is about two-kernels wide and strips two rows per stroke. Which is ok, but of course, the varying widths of a kernel guarantees you are slicing through kernels much of the time. Still, beats a knife which always slashes kernels open with every stroke.
Best feature: You can generally get it to remove the kernel without leaving much behind or snagging some cob. This is fairly easy to do but not without some struggle to keep it from hanging up mid-stroke.
Someday, someone will think of a way to strip kernels off cleanly and wholly. Until then, this is the best.

I tried the corn zipper and think that an old fashioned knife still works better. With the Corn Zipper it only cuts one row of corn and a knife you are able to one whole side of the cob and can do it in half the time. Didn't work for me Sorry!!Want Kuhn Rikon Corn Zipper, Stainless Discount?
The Corn Zipper works great really great the only negative is the small amount of corn it removes at one time. (1-2 rows) I will still use it because for some reason I make a lot less mess than when I use a knife. Dexter-Russell (S112-12H) - 12" Fish Splitter - Sani-Safe Series
This blade is huge. It is called a fish splitter but I think it can be used to cut poultry as well. Could not find any reviews on this online though. It has some weight as well.
UPDATE: I picked up the 8" version of this knife for in the motorhome and subsequently bought a second for home too. The 8" has a better balance for general kitchen use and has now become my favorite home knife.
I do suggest you pick up one of these cheap sharpeners to keep the edge razor sharp.

Was in need of a new knife and I read great reviews on the Victorinox brand. A review from Lifehacker.com was what sent me searching for a good deal. The knife is incredibly sharp and easy to handle. The only drawback I see from this particular knife is that it is on the lighter side. Also the blade isn't full tanged stopping about a centimeter from the end of the handle and the rosewood handle isn't as nice as I thought it would have been. Feeling on the cheaper side. Aside from that it cuts like no other.

Great knife, VERY Sharp. Buy a nice cutting board (wood NOT plastic) and keep your knives sharp. I purchased a few Vicorinox Rose Wood handle knives and they are beautiful and VERY sharp. Iittala Collective Tools Collection
Beautifull design by the top Italian designer is timeless piece....solid feel with excellent firm griding action...love it. Now we have goten our first papper and salt mills 4 years ago...design of the griding mechanism was different then....it broke recently and after contacting Iitalla both mills where replaced with no question asked. One cannot ask for more from the company which stands behind their products!
The feel and design is fantastic but has not been robust for us.

We own an iittala pepper mill, and we agree it looks very nice, and the hammer-head mill mechanism makes it quite usable. However, we are more concerned with the ability to mill pepper relatively fine, not too fine, just not getting large chunks of pepper. At first, this mill did just that, but after a relatively short period of time, it no longer was able to produce the same fine grind. The rubber nubs underneath this board appear to be well secured and the product arrived in good shape. I would have preferred a heavier construction however. I bought this to straddle my sink so that I could cut and wash all in the same place. The plastic is thinner and bows when I cut veggies. Good design (large) but too flimsy to rate higher. I bought it ,not as a cutting board, but as a rolling board for biscuits , pie crusts etc. It worked very well.

Zwilling J.A. Henckels Twin Cuisine 8-Inch Chef's Knife (B-Grade*)
This is just a quick warning about the Twin Cuisine design for all those that are interested.Four star for the cutting ability of the knife, One star for the handles,(Because you can't click no stars)
I have been involved with the restaurant industry for some thirty years now as a Chef, management, designer, contractor etc... So I know good from bad when it comes to restaurant products.
About four years ago I decided to purchase a new set of knives. Henckel being one of my top choices, based on previous experience and ownership.
I settled on the Twin Cuisine because I liked the larger handle and overall weight of the knives and the look. Full length tang, no rivets and a more robust design of the handle. I purchased from various vendors on Amazon a compliment of around nine knives of various lengths and cutting styles. I also got two sets of the Twin Cuisine Steak Knives.
Speaking for the knife, (cutting portion) they are a great set of knives. They keep there edge, (as long as you hone them) and I think I have only had to sharpen them a few times over the years.
Now for the handles. Every one of these knives the handles are cracked, not cracking.... cracked. From my 10" chef knife to the steak knives. There is definitely a flaw in the plastic used to mold these handles. I have found references on other forums about this problem with the twin cuisine so buyer-be-ware.
Although they are warrantied for life the hassle is you have to send them in one at a time to Henckel, which frankly I have not taken the time to do, and it can take them up to eight weeks to deal with the warranty.

I am 5'10", with hands to match. Knives with the traditional handle are just too small and my hands cramp up if I have to use them for a while. The handles on these are thick and solid and ergonomically curved. Great for a woman with larger hands or your average guy. Wouldn't recommend them for a small woman because of the handle size and because they are a heavier knife overall. My only negative with these knives is that they don't have an ID on the end of the handle the way another company (is it Wustof?) does, which makes it easy to find the knife you want without pulling them out to check.Read Best Reviews of Zwilling J.A. I am an assistant to an executive chef and instructor at one of the top ten culinray schools in the country. Althought I am not a professional myself, I find that using top equipment makes the differences. This knife speaks for itself. The edge has remainded true without a lot of fuss. The ease of use is something else. If used correctly you can slice and dice all day. The only drawback is the weight. This item has everything you could possibly need for utensils in the kitchen. The blades of the knives seem pretty flimsy but will probably do for a little while at least. The ladles and spatulas seem surprisingly durable and the fact that it comes with a mini cutting board and a can opener makes it pretty worth the price. If you want something very high quality however, I would suggest something else.

I just received my order this afternoon, happy to see it was delivered on time! However, I was very disappointed before even opening the box. I'm not sure if the postal service or the seller is at fault, but the box was already opened, and very poorly packaged. The same goes for the product inside, it was not properly packed.As for the product itself, you get what you pay for. It is cheaply made, but for a starter kitchen like mine, should suffice for a little while. If you are looking for a high quality, long lasting product, this is not it.
