Cambridge Asher Sand 30-Piece Flatware Set, Service for 6

Cambridge Asher Sand 30-Piece Flatware Set, Service for 6This silverware was inexpensive, basic and utilitarian. I was a little disappointed because the silverware seems to develop white spots after washing in the dishwasher. I choose it mostly because my son's name is Asher.

This was a wedding gift for someone. The flatware was a really nice gift for a starter set. The couple likes it.

I just moved into my first place and needed something cheap but that looked good. This has a very slight cheap feel to it at times, but sitting in the silverware drawer and at a place setting, these look great! I'd recommend them.

Bakertowne Thick & Thin Cheese Slicer

Bakertowne Thick & Thin Cheese SlicerI LOVE this item. It makes perfect, uniform cheese slices something I have never been able to accomplish with a knife, cheese plane, or wire cutter attached to a board. I bought one at my local Kitchen Outlet over a decade ago and fell in love. The only downside is that it's a little flimsy with a life expectancy of about one year. It's so inexpensive that I didn't mind buying a new one once a year. But then my local kitchen outlet stopped carrying it.

I bought a similar item from a different manufacturer that cost about twice as much and it broke while I was cutting my first slice of cheese! Don't settle for anything less than the original Thick & Thin Cheese Slicer! It's the best :)

This will be my annual birthday present to myself. I am so happy to find this product again.

Small, lightweight and inexpensive. Works perfectly. If a string should break at some point in the future I'll just buy another one. Has been used on soft, medium and hard cheeses with no problems so far. Does not suffer from "adjustment slip" (becaue it is not adjustable) but you are given the choice between thick and thin. Would highly reccommend. I bought a very nice professional slicer but this is the one I use most often!

This product delivers exactly what it says. Thick and thin slices of your cheese. And if someday it breaks, who cares? At this cheap price you can afford to buy replacements!

This was a great little cheese slicer until it snapped in two during normal use. Spend a little more and get something that's better quality-the plastic is pretty thin.

Want Bakertowne Thick & Thin Cheese Slicer Discount?

We're on our third slicer, as the wire stretches. Each one lasts about 6 months, but I love them and am back for more. Stand a 2lb loaf of Oregon cheese on end and slice horizontally, supporting the wire as you bring it from the far side of the cheese toward you. It makes quick work of a tricky job, allowing you to buy better quality cheese at a lower price than pre-sliced cheeses.

Wüsthof Come-Apart Kitchen Shears

Wusthof Come-Apart Kitchen Shears: GreenThese Wusthof come-apart kitchen shears are perfect to butterfly a chicken!

PROS:

Shears open and close easily for cutting. They are not at all stiff to use!

The blades are short (8 ins by 0.5 ins). This ensures good leverage for making precision cuts whether it's deboning a chicken, cutting up veggies or even outdoors as a home gardening shears!

Blades are made with high-carbon stainless steel so they stay sharp longer.

One blade is serrated to prevent slippage during cutting and another is smooth to ensure a clean cut.

Bone notch at end of kitchen shear blade easily cuts through chicken bones

Blades meet together for smooth, precision cutting.

When opened to the fullest, the blades come apart for easy cleaning.

Rugged synthetic handles for either right or left handed users.

Choice of black or green color synthetic handles

These shears have steel-tooth insets in the handles to twist open bottle and jar caps.

CONS:

If you open the shears too far while cutting, the blades will come apart. As another reviewer remarked, to open the shears 'this far', you must be trying to cut a watermelon for the blades to come apart while in use! LOL :)

SEE MY PHOTOS IN CUSTOMER IMAGES

These are precision crafted shears proudly made by Wusthof knife making company of Germany. Wusthof is family owned for 7 generations and has been in the knife making business since 1813.

If you are looking for a good quality pair of shears at a reasonable price, then these Wusthof Come-Apart Kitchen Shears are just the tool for your kitchen, home improvement tool kit or gardening shed!

My husband bought me a pair of these shears after I kept having to replace my kitchen shears, which I use daily in the kitchen. That was 4 or 5 years ago. These things are great! They cut through woody herbs, tough tendons in moose and other wild game, you can use them split chickens, all kinds of things! The come apart when opened to 90 degrees so that they are super easy to clean. I also bought a Wusthof sharpener with a scissor sharpener in it to keep these scissors sharp, and these scissors haven't met something they couldn't cut through yet!

There have been a few times when there was bought cutting job outside the kitchen that the scissors were called in for things like wire or carpet. I didn't mind because I knew they could handle it and would be cleaned up well before they were used for food again. These scissors were worth every penny because I would have gone through several lesser quality pairs by now, totaling a cost far higher than what my husband spent for these.

Buy Wüsthof Come-Apart Kitchen Shears Now

I bought these to harvest the herbs we planted in our garden. I love the simple come apart feature. Don't understand how it could cause a problem as there would be no reason to open the scissors that far to cut something. They are made in Germany. It is incredibly hard to find a pair not made in China here on Amazon.

I don't understand the reviewer who said you'd strain your hand cutting open a bag of frozen veggies. They work just fine

Good quality scissors. You have to adjust to not opening them so wide that the two parts separate. However there are some advantages 1) easier to wash thoroughly in two parts by hand or in dishwasher and 2) when I am opening a taped box I split the scissors apart one side works great as a 'box cutter'.

Sharp (both the blades and appearance); very easy to clean, and the different colors make it easier to prevent cross-contamination in the kitchen!

Dominion Flatware, Sold by the Dozen

Winco 0001-08 Dinner KnifeSomehow forks were disappearing from my home and the teenagers seemed not to know where they go. This was an awesome set of replacement forks without having to buy a whole set. They are not the highest quality, but they will do for our needs at this time.

These are very thin. But I bought them because my kids keep accidentally throwing away the silverware. Putting the nice stuff up and using these for everyday use until then.

I knew I was ordering cheap but these things had an element of danger to them! The edges on the spoons, knives and tongs of the forks were too square. The photo of them made them look better than they did. It was as though the flatware missed its last stage of finishing. Not safe to use at all.

The forks are a little bit flimsy, but I needed some extra forks and that's what they are. With your hand guided it, it surley does the job.

Seriously, these forks are priced about as low as you could want. The quality is not wonderful, they don't look very nice, but I like them anyway. I take them to work and don't have to worry about them getting lost. I wouldn't use them if I were having guests over for dinner, I have other flatware for that.

So, if you are going to buy just know the use. If they are just for you and you don't need exceptional look and feel, get these.

If you want to impress your house guests STAY AWAY! Otherwise, these are great.

Guide Gear 6 Piece Stainless Cutlery Set

Guide Gear 6 Piece Stainless Cutlery SetI am by no means a chef or expert on knives. I use them on rare occasions for things like cutting open a fruit or opening a package. For this purpose. they work better than other knives I have used. I also like their coloring and design. I don't like the way they fit into the holder. The pictures show the knives all aligned an even with each other. The actual unit doesn't look like this, with the knife handles and different heights and up/down angles. I put my handles in upside down to minimize this. I don't consider this a major issue, so I gave 4 stars.

Bought this as a gift. When I opened it to make sure it was what I wanted, I was impressed with the quality of the knives. They do not seem cheap. I like the fact that they are all stainless steel knives. The only difference between this set and some of the higher priced ones, was that this one did not come with a set of steak knives. I did not use them however, so I don't know for sure how they will hold up. I bought them for my husband's nephew who is training to become a chef. They look very nice and he was excited to receive them.

This product is on clearance for a reason. Junk... I hate complaining, but the "knife set" came with the base busted. The worst "woodwork" I have ever seen. The stainless steel cap on top fell on the ground when I opened the package. There is an insert that flopped on the floor too... I could not have ordered a worse knife set. There are many options, this should not be one of yours. FYI, I used heavy duty caulk to reaffix everything. It looks terrible, but I wasn't going to pay for return shipping on a $20 item... What a joke. Grab the $30 Ginsu set instead!

Swiss Army Brands 40021 Chef Knife, 10-Inch
  • Rock for a precise cut
  • Stain-resistant blade
  • Comfortable shape
  • Durable addition to any set
  • Stamped construction

I got mine back in 1980,and it served me well for many years of HEAVY use. You can get a freakish edge on these,I used to drop a cherry tomato and get a clean cut with a midair whack.A knife that's ALMOST sharp-bats the tomato across the room. No other cook I worked with ever had a blade that could do the clean midair slice. That is a few notches beyond shaving sharp. I also could use it like a cleaver..or a slicer...or a fillet knife because it has some heft-yet not too much and because being very-very sharp can make a blade usable even beyond it's usual role.

Mine mysteriously vanished a year ago..and now I'm cooking again so will soon have a replacement-Fibrox this time. If I was just getting a "home" Knife..likely would go Rosewood and would consider a 8". In a commercial kitchen where you whack up things by the casea 10" is what you use and these are the standard.

I recommend getting a Norton stone-specifically the fine India unless you have a good, large Arkansas. An electric sharpener or just a steel won't let you get the best from this.

Forged is fine for a nice "at home" Knife. On the job..they are too heavy and slow you down. You will have a hard time abusing a Forschner enough to ruin it. Quite durable. Not at all expensive.

Buy Swiss Army Brands 40021 Chef Knife, 10-Inch Now

I absolutely LOVE this knife!!! I am a bit of a nut about my chef's knives and own many of them. During a simple task such as making a dinner salad, I might pull out and compare as many as six chef's knives at a time.

Let me just say that this is one of my favorites hands down. In all fairness, it is the most expensive 10 inch chef's knife that I own but I regularly compare it side by side with my wusthoff classic 8 inch, my wusthof Ikon 8 inch, and my henckels international classic (still forged but made in spain). Any of the above knives will amaze someone not used to fine cutlery but for some reason I rarely prepare a meal without reaching for my 10 inch forshcner rosewood chef's knife.

Out of the box, the thing is razor sharp (easily shaves arm hair) and stays that way for a long time. It takes just regular steeling (something anyone who loves their knives does often) to maintain that edge for a long time. When steeling does not bring it back (I have had mine for a year and this has not happened yet) it takes an edge with a few strokes on a good stone without any trouble at all (I did so even though it did not need it).

Useability: The rocking angle of the blade is less angled that that of the Wusthofs. This means that more blade is in contact with the food/board at any given time in its chopping stroke. Personally, I like this, but it is a personal thing. I tend to move the blade back and forth quite a bit when I chop (I slice a lot) so this suits me very well.

Because of the ange of the blade's curve, the tip is well placed for use in tasks that might otherwise require a much smaller knife. For instance, even though this is a large 10 inch knife, I can easily control the tip in preping even the smallest garlic cloves for mincing (slicing the vertical cuts in the clove) and then simply finish it off with the chopping motion of the blade. For basic cutting and even tasks that require good control, I like this blade easily as much as I do my wusthofs and other 8 inch knives. The blade is beautifully polished and is much much more substantial than most stamped knives. It FEELS like a quality tool in your hand. The blade is only slightly curved all the way through (this is a wonderful thing). It does not have that incredibly annoying flat (or even...gasp...concave) spot that you sometimes see in the heel end of many blades with lesser curveature (even some high end one's). In other words, you get a nice clean chop through those paper thin parsley leaves that wander down to the handle end of the blade

To me, the handle is the only potentially weak point on this knife, but I would still buy another one in a heartbeat. I have a small (1/8 inch square) chip out of mine at the foremost corner of the thumb side (I am right handed). This chip out of the handle occured with no damage and seems to be due to a weak spot in the wood. That being said, the damage is cosmetic only and in no way effects the useability of the knife. I might recommend going with a fibrox handle except that I absolutely love to wrap my index finger down the right side of the wooden handle wich is not identical in size to the fibrox handle also available on this model.

Weight and balance: Because it is stamped AND 10 inches, this knife is blade heavy. Even with a pinch grip (choked up) it is blade heavy (balance point is roughly 3/4 of an inch above the handle. This has not proved to be a problem with performance on the block but it often turns me off just handling the knife without putting it to work (anyone who compares this to a wusthoff will immediately see that it is not balanced as well. Perhaps its saving grace is that it IS stamped, so it is lighter than a comparably lengthed forged knife; so being blad heavy does not effect its performance as much as you might expect. It is noteworthy that many longer knives are blade heavy regardless of their costs.

Overall, I can't say enough good things about this knife. Again and again, it outperforms my expensive knives on the block. In fact, I stupidly keep buying more knives to see if I can find one I like better, but this one seems unbeatable. It is one that will likely never be moved from my storage block to make room for another (in fairness, though, my block has room for many chef's knives :))

If price is an issue for you, BUY THIS KNIFE OR A FIBROX ONE!!!! You won't be disappointed. If money is not an object, you still might find it to be one of your favorites as I have.

Enjoy

I first learned about this knife a few years ago when I read a review in a magazine. Finally found it on Amazon and was very pleased with the results. We used it to carve our Thanksgiving turkey and it worked better than any knife I had. Only caution is that it is VERY SHARP! It is good looking, easy to handle and works very well for all your cutting needs. A great value for a product that could easily cost 2 or 3 times as much. A real professional knife that can be used by the average home cook.

This is the best knife I have ever owned. It survived over twenty years in the restaurant biz and now hangs on a magnetic rack over my cutting board at home. I think I paid twenty-five bucks for it back in the late '70s. The knife takes an

edge easily and holds it for quite some time. The rosewood handle and lack of bolster makes the "choke up" grip easy and comfortable.

Zwilling J.A. Henckels Twin 16-Slot Cherry Knife Storage Block

Zwilling J.A. Henckels Twin 16-Slot Cherry Knife Storage BlockThis block is gorgeous and the photo doesn't do it justice. I was enamored with it when I took it out of the box and couldn't wait to fill it with my knives. Sadly, my chef's knives don't fit. I have 2 10" chef's knives and this block is neither deep enough nor has wide enough slots to accommodate them. Maybe my knives our larger than the average household, I don't know. They are standard fare for the restaurant industry and what I'm used to. I had a hard time finding any other block that would hold my knives so likely this block is standard and I'm the oddball.

If you do the research on the slot sizes and this block accommodates your knives, I think you will be very happy.

This block is handsome and matches my cherry cabinets. I had no problem loading my Henckels Twin Cuisine knives. My previous block that came free with my knives had a very high center of gravity and was constantly falling forward. Ever have a block of sharp German knives emptying out towards you? When I found I needed to warn every house guest I decided it was time to pitch the free Henckels block for this one which has more support in the front. No longer have the tipping problem.

My steel is a bit longer than the block by about 15 mm but this is not a big problem, probably my steel is longer then usual. Jean Dubost 3-Piece Cheese Set Stainless SteelSo glad I bought these. The box is pretty basic but the 3 piece cheese set is well crafted and well made. Looks fantastic on a cheese board and have had many compliments on them. Word of warning make sure when you purchase Laguiole knives that they are made in France as these are, because the Chinese made versions are cheap and nasty looking and definitely not to the same standard, quality or workmanship. Zayka Avanti 6-Inch Ceramic Chef's Knife, White Blade

Zayka Avanti 6-Inch Ceramic Chef's Knife, White BladeI really liked this knife from the day I got it. It became my go-to blade for anything other than meat. After almost 2 years, the plastic handle broke. The edge is still great it chips a little over time but it's still verrrrry sharp. I tried to get the manufacturer info from Amazon in order to use the 10-year warranty, but they couldn't provide it. The phone operator escalated the problem up a level; maybe that will help.

Does someone out there have a phone number or email for the warranty?

This is the first ceramic knife I have owned. I don't have other ceramic knives to compare it to, but I"m sold with Zakya. The Avanti Chef's Knife is very sharp, and very well balanced. I found it to be avantiperfect for cutting vegetables and fruit.

We first tested the knife out on some tomatoes. The ceramic blade cut through them like butter and what we had in the end was perfectly even thin slices. I like that the knife cuts without the need to apply a lot of pressure.

There are more expensive, fancier and probably better knifes on the market but Zayka gives you the most bang for your buck in my humble (I have a few years of professional cooking experience') opinion. As I mentioned before, it is not the first ceramic knife in our household and this one becoming my wife's favorite too. Recommended!

Zyliss Knife Sharpener

Zyliss Knife SharpenerIt's great for getting that extra fine edge to the Zyliss blade, but it doesn't hone and sharpen like other knife sharpeners. The two wheels inside are, I believe, porcelain, and works well with the Zyliss knives because of their thin blades. Still a good product for the price.

The Sharpener takes very little space in a drawer and sharpens knives quickly. I haven't used it for long enough to know whether it will loose its sharpening power after a time. For now, I'm happy with it.

Spark Innovators Edge of Glory Knife SharpenerThis product would be good if it wasn't made so cheaply. Save your money. It probably cost $1 to make. The rubber suction broke off

The only thing is that when I get to the end of a vegetable, I have to remove the guard to chop the last little tidbits. Otherwise, a very useable kitchen aid.
