I want to start off by saying that any review is relative to the consumers past experience. Before getting this knife I was working from a cheap knife set so I won't profess that my opinion is going to be relevant when compared to other high quality knives. For me the price was great and after using it I really appreciate how crappy the knives in my old set are. It's amazing how much more enjoyable cooking is when you have quality tools. So, if you're upgrading from a crappy set of knives you won't be disappointed. Bought this to replace aging wedding flatware. This was much cheaper than the Towle that I'd had previously. It was not only very light, but also, it had a funny ridges on the sides...you can't really see it in the photo. No complaints with the seller, but not being able to see a close up photo was a bummer.
This is really light stuff like you'd find at HomeGoods not what I was replacing.
Zwilling J.A. Henckels Twin Pure Potato Masher
Most mashers have a short handle and the curving wire at the bottom. This is nearly a foot long, has a comfortable handle, and is designed so that one can not only mash by pushing down, but also by pushing to the side of the pot. Sturdy, comfortable, sleek, and well worth the money. After getting this one, I also gave one as a Christmas gift.I did not know this two man figured German Henckels is made in China. The product is strong and heavy. No workmanship issues with the item I received.

We are dancing the Mashed Potato now. No pieces to separate or break. We purchased this as a replacement for a similar masher with a plastic handle that eventually wanted to slip off every time it was used. This solid instrument is excellent design for getting to every last bit in the pot.Zwilling J.A. Henckels Twin Signature 7-Inch Flexible Blade Fillet Knife
If you're looking for a great fillet knife in the sub $80 price range, this is it. I consider this to be every-day kitchen quality but not quite restaurant quality. If you fillet chicken more than 3 hours a day, then I doubt you're considering this knife anyway. It is very sharp and has a good flex for de-boning small game.
The only possible negative I want to draw attention to is this: the cutting edge continues to the point where the blade meats the handle. So, if you have a high grip you may lose some skin on your fore-fingers. In other words, get used to gripping this knife directly on the handle instead of choking up on it.I love this knife!!! I have searched so long for a knife that would allow me to clean my chicken the way i want. I hate thick chicken and when i clean it its important that i can cut it as thin as possible. It cut my cleaning time by at least 20 minutes(i clean a big family pack at a time). I knew a filleting knife would be the best bet but everywhere i looked they were over $100. You cannot go wrong with this price and this model.
I bought this from a third party (not amazon) and i do have to complain about the packaging, the plastic was all cut but i wasnt going to complain because there was no way you could get the knife out so i know it wasnt used. Other than that i HIGHLY recommend getting.

I am an avid trout fisherman and I would recommend this knife as the best bang for your buck. I have used this knife for over a year now to fillet everything from crappie, which are easy, to pike, which are a little more complex, and it has not disappointed. Only bummer is that I had to contact Henckels so they could hook me up with a sheath, but I knew that when I bought it so I won't criticize for that.Norpro Jumbo Pastry Mat
I bought this in Feb. 2009, as of now had it for about a week. From the "correct" (non-ink) side, all the measurement marks are visible and quite usable, but the text is too blurry to make out. There are solid lines throughout the mat (instead of dotted lines or marks along the edges like most others), which is very nice.
The mat moves a bit when rolling I expected this since it's not a silicone mat it was a trade-off between non-slip and knife-friendly, and I opted for knife-friendly (which might've been a bad call, see next).
The mat is knife-friendly, but extremely heat sensitive. I think it's composed of 2 pieces of plastic pressed together and only glued at the edges, and the slightest contact with heat separates the layers and creates a big bubble. I threw about 1/2 cup of toasted walnuts on the mat and it immediately bubbled up (they weren't very hot, easily handled with bare hands). Once cooled down the mat returns to its original shape, but basically you can't put anything even mildly hot on it, which takes away some of the advantages of its knife-friendliness and also precludes leaving it on the counter semi-permanently. This is the main reason for my low rating, I would've given it at least 4 stars otherwise.I bought this for the measurements printed on mat. You can't read them on the roll out side. Is basically useless for what I wanted it for. If you try to roll out on the side with the print, the ink comes off in your dough.

The writing is on the underside of mat so it shows through very faintly as others have said. The recipes, grid and measurements are useless. Sample photo does not match product. This mat is wonderful, a perfect size for pie crusts, rolling out the biscuts, etc. All of our pastries have just slid off of it. The measurements, and wording are to faded to be able to see, and if you turn it over to the darker side, it's backwards. Other than that this thing is wonderful. It arrived in a HUGE flat box and stores nicely behind the microwave so I don't have to bend it. Very useful product to have aroundI like this pastry mat a lot. The only complaint, a fairly minor one, is that the material is a little more rigid than I would prefer, making it difficult to roll up for storage. Similarly, when it's unrolled for use it doesn't readily flatten out on the work surface. What I need to do is figure out a way to store it in its flat (unrolled) mode.... perhaps strong magnets on the side of the refrigerator.Wusthof Classic 20-Piece Knife Set with Block
WUSTHOF TRIDENT. This German firm, headquartered in the knife capital of Europe, in Solingen, has been in business since the early 1800's. Over time, Wusthof ascended to the pinnacle of knife manufacturing by innovation, the use of the highest possible quality steel alloys, and impeccable craftsmanship. Attention to detail is almost obsessive. Wusthof knives are the benchmark, the reference, in professional culinary knives...the gold standard by which all other kitchen knives are measured.Wusthof knives are still forged in the traditional manner, gaining the respect of culinary professionals. Cheaper methods can be used, such as the sintered construction of Henckels or the stamping method of Victorinox/Forschner Fibrox. This is the CLASSIC design preferred by so many chefs.
Inroads by Japanese makers of Japanese blade styles are giving Wusthof some tough competition, so Wusthof has responded by making knife lines incorporating Japanese styling with German precision in manufacture...so you might want to shop the Wusthof Ikon line.
I can only review what I actually own and use, this Classic line, regardless of how many are in a set. These Wusthof Trident Classic knives have been in my possession, in a more complete set than that offered here, since 1991. These knives are my old friends, and I am on intimate terms with them. To proceed...
PROS:
*HOT DROP HAMMER FORGED. Stubbornly refusing to change to cheaper, lower-quality methods such as stamping, these knives are still hot drop hammer forged, fully forged blades. The metal used is a fine quality carbon stainless steel alloy common to most top tier German knives such a Henckels, Victorinox/Forschner, and F. Dick.
*FULL TANG, RIVETED HANDLE PREFERRED BY MOST CHEFS. The handle is of commercial quality and strength, full-tanged and securely triple riveted in the traditional style preferred by most chefs because of its strength and universally comfortable grip, with sanitary POM synthetic scales (what the handle itself is made of).
*HAND-FINISHED. Each blade and handle is hand-finished to a high standard, by HAND. New knives arrive razor sharp, so learn to keep them that way.
*HUGE RANGE OF KNIVES, I MEAN HUGE. No other knife manufacturer offers so many different shapes, sizes, lengths, widths, and styles...a mind boggling array of choices. See the online Wusthof catalog: Santokus, both flexible and stiff fillet and boning knives, hollow edged "Granton" or dimpled blades are available in many styles. Wusthof Trident offers various sizes of offset bread knives, salami knives, cleavers, and hard-to-find very long salmon and ham slicers. The selection of blade types is too extensive to list here...go to the Wusthof Trident website.
*NEW, 14 DEGREE ANGLE BLADES: A huge improvement over the old 20 degree angle blades of the past Classic series. More in line with 15 degree angle Japanese knives, the sharper angle slices much easier so instead of an "axe-like" wedge you get a thinner, much sharper, easier slicing blade...more ergonomic and less fatiguing. I am so glad to see this change...it is about time.
*AT HOME, EXPECT A LIFETIME OF USE. A chef goes through knives far faster than any home cook. For the rest of us, expect decades of use. It is a cheap investment, a pittance, spread over the years. Will the set to the kids.
CONS:
*COST IS HIGHER THAN AVERAGE, BUT THE QUALITY IS MUCH HIGHER THAN AVERAGE. These quality blades are actually lower in price than much of the Japanese competition. They are a joy to use, and make cooking preparation enjoyable. You look forward to facing the cutting board, at least I do.
*HARD TO DEMO IN STORES. Most people like to handle a knife, to try it on the store cutting board to test the comfort of the handle, the balance or heft, or the rocking action of a chef's knife. A few kitchenware stores like Williams-Sonoma or Sur La Table might let you try out knives on their cutting board. Whatever the case may be, make certain that the return policy allows returns if not happy. The comfort and performance of most knife shapes and sizes are important, but not extremely critical, though the chef's knife IS of critical importance. When you receive your knives test your chef's knife with various cuts, if not happy then return them. Or order the chef's knife first and test it. If you like it then order the other matching knives.

WHAT KNIVES DO YOU REALLY NEED?
Speaking from experience, from someone that over-bought (I have the Wusthof MegaBlock filled with 17 knives (including a cleaver, steel, shears, and carving fork) plus 8 steak knives, I can recommend buying open stock so that you only buy what you REALLY need, and what you REALLY will use 99% of the time, what most chefs lug to work in their Knife Roll.
The large knife block shown above has too many open slots (and too many knives). This is offered to encourage you to fill them with knives you will rarely need, unless you just like collecting knives, or there is a blade or two you need for your personal preferences. This is why I prefer a large, long Magnetic Knife Bar to a Knife Block...more flexible and versatile. Buy open stock even though each blade will cost more, buying less knives is much cheaper in the end.
This cost-cutting set's knives are also, mostly, too short. The set could be markedly improved with a longer 9"-10" Chefs/Cook's, a longer 9"-10" Slicing Knife, and a longer 9"-10" Bread Knife, while the 5" Boning Knife could be swapped for a longer 6" Flexible Boning Knife (works for filleting too)...the 3.5" Paring Knife is just fine as it is, but you might also look at the new 3.5" Micro-Serrated Paring Knife (micro-serrations on the rear of the blade, non-serrated on the front 2/3rds, for tough-surfaced fruits and veggies...clever and very versatile indeed).
Perhaps now you can see why buying open stock is so much better...YOU decide which blade is best, piece by piece, NOT the manufacturer. As you read the long review below, I hope to convince you to take the minimalist fork in the road, as would most professional Chefs. Many consumers, not knowing any better, not knowing how to select each blade, just buy all of them and be done with it, as I did when I was blade-ignorant years ago. Why waste money and counter space with a huge knife quiver? Save your money and apply that to some exquisite All-Clad cookware.
A MINIMALIST KNIFE SET is just three Essential Knives: When you are certain you have all the knives you want, then buy a knife block. Or, buy an even larger block then slowly fill it over time if you like collecting knives. Some folks like a magnetic knife bar mounted on the wall above the cutting board.
You might begin your knife assortment with just the three most essential blades: a Chef's/Cook's Knife, and a Paring Knife, and a Serrated Bread Knife. A more useful, realistic selection is about double that...consider going with following six blades. Anything more than the six knives listed below will seldom be used, unless you have some very specific needs If so, you can always buy that needed blade at the start, or at a later time as the need keeps arising, rather than buy a large quiver of knives, most of which just sit there year after year, seldom, if ever, being needed or used. Buying only the knives you need, is buying smarter It means you can afford the cost of a few high quality, durable, and super performing knives. Before going into more detail, let us start at the beginning...
THE THREE ESSENTIAL KNIVES
1) 10" CHEF'S KNIFE: An 8" Chef's Knife is a bit short for a pile of veggies; most chefs use a 9"-12" blade. Jacques Pepin urges a 10" blade for home use even if you are short in stature or have a small hand; you soon become accustomed to it...never go smaller than 9" if you only have one chef's knife, in my opinion. Do not buy a Granton blade model...the plain edge lasts longer.
2) 3.5" SPEAR POINT PARING KNIFE: for peeling, slicing, garnishing, eying, and stemming of veggies/fruits. After
your Chef's Knife, the Paring Knife is the next most useful knife in your knife quiver.
3) 5" SERRATED UTILITY KNIFE or 6" "SANDWICH KNIFE: serrated edge with a sheep's foot tip, or perhaps the somewhat specialized fork-tipped, serrated Tomato Knife. This smaller, precise serrated blade is superior to all others for fruit/citrus, tomatoes, sandwiches, rolls, and smaller, precise slicing jobs where a slippery, tough outer surface, or hard crust must be dealt with. Of course, it also cuts softer surfaces too, and can do anything a plain edged Utility Knife can do.
This knife is also popular with bartenders when making drinks needing citrus slices. The Scalloped Utility Knife is an always useful, often overlooked blade. Many chefs or home cooks might prefer a 5-6" "Large Utility" or "Sandwich Knife" instead of the serrated version, using the serrated Bread Knife instead, as clumsy as a long, thicker blade is for slicing small fruit and tomatoes where serration is called for.
THE NEXT THREE MOST IMPORTANT KNIVES
4) 6" FLEXIBLE BONING KNIFE: for separating the bone from the meat, AND for filleting fish; separate boning and fillet knives are then not needed. This model has a dual-purpose flex. If you do a great deal of meat/poultry boning, or filleting of fish, buy separate knives for each function, such as a 5"-6" Stiff Boning Knife, and a 7" Flexible Fillet Knife. Most people can get by with this single somewhat flexible blade unless you often fillet fish which requires a dedicated, very flexible Fillet Knife; or if you frequently bone meats which requires a stiffer, dedicated Boning Knife.
5) 10" ROUND TIP HOLLOW EDGE SLICING KNIFE Granton Edge: dimpled edge; a more stiff blade for slicing larger beef cuts and and hot meats. Some chefs also use it for poultry; to slice chicken or turkey breasts and de-boned thighs instead of using the more flexible Spear Point "Carving" Knife discussed below. The Round-Tip Hollow Edge Slicer is often used in delicatessens and sandwich shops to thinly slice large cuts of meat.
Some home cooks prefer an 8"-10" Spear Point "Carving" Slicing Knife, for versatility, instead of a 10" Round Tip Hollow Edge Slicer. Research this for yourself if you have not yet decided. Longer blades make thin-slicing easier, shorter ones cut more precisely to match small meats, poultry, or medium to large fruits and veggies. The Slicer can also be used for salmon, but salmon lovers will eventually buy a specialized, long and very flexible, much thinner bladed Granton Fillet/Salmon Slicer. Some chefs use this Round-Tip Hollow Edge Slicer lacking a true butcher's knife for fabrication (breaking down a side of beef or very large cut such as entire loin or a full rack of ribs).
6) 5" SERRATED UTILITY KNIFE (or "sausage knife"): serrated edge with a curved-down sheep's foot tip, or perhaps the somewhat serrated Tomato Knife with a forked tip for lifting the tomato slices. Some Chef's would not include this blade, but I do. This smaller, precise serrated blade is superior to all others for fruit/citrus, tomatoes, sandwiches, rolls, and smaller, precise slicing jobs where a slippery, tough outer surface, or hard crust must be dealt with. Of course, it also cuts softer surfaces too, and can do anything a plain edged 6" Utility Knife/Sandwich can do. This serrated knife is also popular with bartenders when making drinks needing citrus slices. The Scalloped Utility Knife is an always useful, often overlooked blade.
(7?) 7" GRANTON EDGE SANTOKU KNIFE: a possible 21ST Century candidate as a seventh essential knife (see below).
SPECIALIZED or OPTIONAL KNIVES (Here is where you get into trouble...over-collecting, cool it)
* 2.75" BIRD'S BEAK PARING, PEELING, OR TOURNE KNIFE: for peeling rounded foods, "turning" or "shaping" veggies and small fruits, stemming or fluting mushrooms, scoring, and several other garnishing tasks. Always included in a culinary student's knife roll, but not often used in home cooking except, on occasion, by advanced home cooks.
* 8"-10" SPEAR POINT "CARVING" SLICING KNIFE: Granton Edge: spear point with dimpled edge; more flexible than the Round Tip Slicer. For deft carving, especially if you cut up poultry very often; for turkey, chicken, duck, large fruits and veggies, and for general slicing buy the 8" size. This Slicing Knife is the ideal poultry slicer, but it can slice beef or ham, but not as well as Round-Tip Hollow Edge Slicing Knife.
Some chefs use an 8" "Carving" Slicing Knife for small-to-medium boning and slicing, as a large Utility Knife/Carving Knife (most Utility/Sandwich Knives are 4"-6"). If you intend to buy no other slicing knives than this Spear Point Carving Knife, opting not to buy the 10"Slicer detailed above, consider buying a longer 10" Spear Point Carving Knife (longer blades make it easier to slice more thinly, but if buying both, buy the 8" Carving Knife and the 10" Round Tip "Beef" Slicer).
* 5"-6" STIFF BONING KNIFE: the stiff blade provides more control and safety when working around ribs and large bones, preventing slipping. The stout blade is also perfect for testing cooking meats. If you rarely fillet fish, then select this blade alone instead of the Flexible Boning Knife discussed above, or the Flexible Fillet Knife discussed below.
* 7" FLEXIBLE FILLET KNIFE: a very flexible blade, specialized for filleting fish, and for slicing poultry very thinly, such as carpaccio. If you very often prepare fish, it is best to buy a whole fish and fillet it yourself, because you can better determine freshness with a whole fish instead of a pre-packaged fillet. If you opt for this blade, then instead of the 6" Flexible Boning Knife listed above (used for both filleting AND boning), use this longer, specialized 7" Flexible Fillet Knife just for your filleting, then go with the more specialized 5"-6" Stiff Boning Knife just for the boning jobs.
* 7" SANTOKU KNIFE: hollow edge (Granton). This versatile blade often is selected in preference to a smaller 8" Chef's Knife. Use it for precision chopping and slicing; for the deft chopping of smaller amounts of veggies, and for exacting general slicing jobs. Perfect for mincing garlic and shallots as well.
* 6"-7" MEAT CLEAVER: this specialized design is needed if you often do small butchering, breaking down a large cut of meat(fabrication). It will chop through thick bone, gristle, and ribs that would chip and damage other knives.
ESSENTIAL KNIFE ACCESSORIES
1) 10" STEEL (honing steel): Absolutely required to keep your knife edge honed as sharp as possible. Always hone with your steel prior to cutting--get in the habit of doing so.
2) KNIFE SHARPENER: Buy the best you can afford. Arkansas stones are good...it pays to research the new sharpeners and knife sharpening websites. If you use hand held sharpeners it is critical that you ensure that the sharpener angle matches that of your knives or you will damage your blades.
3) CARVING FORK: Required to hold meat, poultry, or large fish securely while carving and slicing.
4) KITCHEN SHEARS: As you know, Kitchen Shears are endlessly useful for snipping string, opening packaging, and for cutting some foods. If you cut up whole poultry very often then Poultry Shears should also be bought to make cutting easier and faster than with a knife, in many cases.

Unfortunately, this set includes a 6" fork that does not have a place in the block that they provide. For a manufacturer built set, this is pretty poor attention to detail. The Scissors and Honing Steel both have handles made of cheap plastic, which doesn't pair well with the set. The plastic is soft enough that it was dented/scratched in shipping, just from the knives bouncing into it inside the box.
Basically, the knives are great, but the rest of the set leaves something to be desired.

What a knife! I did not buy this particular knife from Amazon, but was an impulse buy at an asian market which had these at a competitive price. The blade almost looks like a cheap plastic utensil, but don't let the looks deceive you. . . this knife is sharp! There was no sleeve in the packaging, and I got a nick on my finger handling the knife the very first time.
Also with the blade being so hard, you will need to be sure that the knife takes no hard shocks or flexes too much, or the ceramic may break. I would use a mat for cutting on a Granite(or Corian) countertop to avoid chipping the blade(or maybe cutting a groove in the stone!). There are places near the edge that look translucent and you can see the very fine lines along the blade from what I assume would be from the grinding process to finish the blade.
Cutting veggies and meat is very nice, but make sure you are using a hardwood board, or cutting mat, as this sucker leaves very fine grooves on supermarket cutting boards. If the knife were any heavier the cutting would do itself!Already owning a well-rounded selection of Wusthof Classic knives, I didn't need a medium-sized slicer. Having received this knife as a gift, it was a nice introduction to Kyocera's ceramic knives. The edge quality of this knife (and I imagine the entire Kyocera line as well) is superb. If proper care is given, I can hardly imagine a better line of knives for the home cook (save for a boning and serrated bread knife). One concern I had was that the entire Revolution line has blunted (but edged..) tips, instead of pointed tips that nearly all other knives have. I needn't have worried. I used this rather large (for the task at hand) knife in place of my beloved Wusthof Classic trimming knife (#4002) to trim fat and sinew from a piece of flank steak while preparing fajitas and the rounded-yet-sharp-edged tip easily found it's way between fat, sinew, and the meat just as efficiently as my Wusthof. As Kyocera will tell you, ceramic blades are not for cutting around bone or jobs that may require twisting of the blade (such as boning), but for day-to-day slicing, they are very tough to beat. As I have 3 (going on 4 children) and perform 99% of the cooking in my household, I appreciate the time saved by not having to meticulously maintain the edge of steel knife after each use. For that reason, I have already acquired the 3" paring knife and will be purchasing the 7" chef's model in the near future.

I bought this knife for my mother as a Christmas gift. It cuts very well and has stayed as sharp as it was out of the box for almost a whole year now! Im very impressed with ceramic blades. Im pretty sure she only uses this knife and another ceramic Kyocera knife I got her. It makes cutting almost anything in the kitchen very easy. Hightly recommended!!!Read Best Reviews of Kyocera Ceramic 4.5 Inch Utility Knife Here
Until recently, I used a fancy German stainless steel paring knife. It used to work OK but in the past few years, it refused to stay sharp. It was never sharp enough, even though I'd frequently use a sharpening steel on it. I even had it professionally sharpened, but it quickly got dull again. Because I used it often, this got frustrating (and dull knives are dangerous), so I looked for an alternative. This Kyocera ceramic knife is amazingly sharp. It easily slices a tomato without having to poke the skin first (good thing, because the knife has a blunt tip). It even cuts through banana peels from the outside (I cut them up before composting). It lets me make thinner slices and handles well. The blade already has some minor staining (not a problem with stainless steel), and as others have pointed out, it's not to be used to smash garlic, but those are minor points. It cuts very well, and that's what a knife is for. Kudos, Kyocera!

I thought a long time before buying one of these knives. I got this model, FK-110WH. It's a 4.25 inch long bladed general utility knife. I'm not sure that I'm the typical purchaser of this type of knife because I bought it for just one thing, to make SALSA.We own a lot of very nice knives. 8 of them are Wusthof knives, two of them are Cutco and then this one. I bought each of them separately and for a specific use so I'm not with the reviewers who complain it's lack of versatility. That's fine with me as I have other knives for those things. It's true that there are some things you shouldn't use a ceramic knife for. If you're not OK with that, get something else.
My family loves salsa and I'm the go-to guy for that. I've been using an 4582/12 Wusthof knife. That's a 12 cm prep chef's knife. It's my favorite knife and I'd recommend it to anyone. It's plain and simple the best all around knife I've ever owned. But for slicing fruits and vegetables, this Kyocera ceramic is far and above it.
The first time I used it my mouth popped open. And remember, I'm not comparing it to cruddy knives. It may be specialized but if you do a lot of slicing, you should have this knife, or one like it in your block. Even when cutting along the edge of a slick tomato skin, this thing will go right through it rather than slipping of the side and cutting your finger. If you're worried about it being too sharp for you, don't. The sharper the knife, the safer it is. You want your knife to be so sharp that it cuts right through whatever you intend it cut. It's when the blade is dull that it tends to go off target and endanger your digits.
30 bucks. The cheapest knife I own but I'm sure I'll come back to it again and again. I probably wouldn't buy this type of knife (ceramic) in the "Chef's" style but to slice vegetables, everyone should have one.
Eureka Arlington 521 Zipper Chest
Whew! I finally found a suitable flatware chest! After a couple failed attempts at chests that claimed they'd fit at least 16 place settings and extra serving pieces required, I am happy to say the search is over! If you're still searching for a flatware chest, you know how hard it is to find one that happens to fit that magic number of place settings and all the serving pieces you have in your collection. There are 3 Reed & Barton chests of this sort. I ordered the "Arlington" because it was slightly larger than I needed (16 place settings and lots of serving pieces), and I'm glad I did. Although I do have a little room to spare, this set does the trick. Regardless of the leatherette construction, it's of surprisingly nice quality and has heavy duty zippers, canvas, and snaps for closure. Well worth the $100 I paid for it (Neiman Marcus and plenty of others, charge lots more). My 12 setting silver set had overwhelmed the original wood chest long ago. Serving pieces, butter knives, fish service, and dessert spoons were being stored separately. It was a nuisance to set the table. This chest has ample room for a twelve piece setting with all the extras. It is well made and completely covered inside and out. The leatherette is unlikely to scratch your table or buffet. It is light enough to easily carry to wherever you are setting up your service. A year in, my silver is not tarnishing, so it is ready for use at a moment's notice. I purchased a second one for my good stainless set. I would not recommend stacking them as the cover is soft. You would risk damage when you pull one over the other. I have deep adjustable shelves in my buffet and I have each chest on a shelf of its own. This has freed up drawer space for other miscellaneous small serving items (e.g, napkin rings) that used to be boxed and forgotten at the back of those shelves.Calphalon Precision Cutlery 7 inch Slicer

Ginkgo Vegas 20-Piece Flatware Set, Service for 4
I love this set. It is sturdy and survives the dishwasher nicely. It is heavy, but not too heavy and the knives are sharper than typical butter knives so they are more versatile.I purchased this flatware recently, and I am truly delighted with the exceptional qualityof this set. I was also very pleased to discover that this flatware is 18/10 stainless steel...not 18/0. The smooth clean lines are modern and pleasing to the eye, and the embossed card symbols on the handles add such a unique touch. You don't have to be a card player (I'm not) to enjoy this handsome-looking set.
When the package arrived and I was finally able to inspect each knife, fork and spoon, I found that every piece is well-crafted, beautifully balanced and heavy-duty. Oh, and did I mention how elegant they look on my table? I couldn't be happier with this flatware! In fact, it is probably one of the best purchases I've made online in a while, and at this price, you really can't go wrong. I even ordered an extra set to have for company...especially
during the holidays.
25 Piece Solid Wood Knife Block Cutlery Set w/ Timer
OXO SteeL Large Skewer Fork
This may well be the perfect fork. I like the OXO series of cutlery, and this is no exception. This fork is very well balanced and has a wonderful handle that is secure and resists slippage. The fork itself is made of stainless steel, and is dishwasher safe; a huge benefit not found on some high end cutlery today. The handle is in line with the other contemporary OXO utensils, with a stainless handle for superior durability and strength, but with rubberized fins on the sides to provide you with excellent grip, which is especially important on a fork of this size that can be counted upon to lift things like heavy roasts, etc. Another excellent feature is the barbed tines, which help prevent heavy items from falling from the fork during lifting.
There may be a greater fork somewhere, but I haven't found it yet. For all your forking needs, this gets a big thumbs up!I almost bought a Good Grips meat fork with a rubber handle until I saw this one. I love Good Grips kitchen tools, and have come to depend on the brand when I'm looking for a nice, solid, reasonably priced kitchen tool. However, in the past, my one complaint has been that when I store utensils in a crock next to the stove, those non-slip handles that I love stick together, and it becomes impossible to grab just one tool you wind up pulling out 6. This handle fixes that problem. It still has the nice, comfortable handle with rubber on either side for grip, but the stainless steel is much easier to grab quickly out of the crock. I'll definately be looking for more tools with this handle. The fork itself is nice and sturdy, a good size, and handles well. I would reccommend this product.

I really like this fork. Very stylish & works great. My husband used it for BQ.Read Best Reviews of OXO SteeL Large Skewer Fork Here
I got this fork to replace a cheap but much loved fork I'd had for years but somehow lost. This fork is a good size and has a nice handle but compared to the one it replaces it feels bulky and fragile. I could shove the old one up the business end of a 5-6lb chicken or 10lb or so turkey and lift it out of the roasting pan with minimal other support. It felt solid and never felt like it was bending. Doing the same thing with the Oxo fork feels bendy, unsupported and at times I've been worried that it will actually break. I'm no engineer but it may be down to the fork not being one piece, the stem being flat and wide rather than a thinner cylindrical shape and the way the prongs are angled both in terms of them curving up and the slight "kink" where they meet the stem. In your hands the fork can be bent so it isn't rigid like some. If you are looking for some flexibility then this has it, if you aren't than keep clear. The handle is nice, it really does a good job of helping you grip the fork itself at any angle you want. It's just a shame that the fork itself doesn't feel sturdy.Overall it does a decent job if you just want to hold a piece of meat steady for carving or move pieces of meat from place to place. If you want to do any sort of moderate lifting with it then you might want to keep looking.

Oxo Steel ForkI was looking for a quality fork for lifting heavier meat cuts without having the meat item falling off the fork and I've found the best solution for my needs. With curved prongs and tips notched like fishing hooks, this 13-1/2-inch fork gets a solid grip on roasts, poultry, and big vegetables like baked potatoes. It easily lifts a corned beef, for instance, from pot to carving surface and holds it down firmly for careful slicing. Rather than being straight-sided, this tool's handle is tapered from heel to finger grip and has satin-finish, stainless-steel panels top and bottom. The handle's sides feature the same design as those in the Good Grips line, which are made of soft processed rubber for comfort, with "fins," or grooves, that flex under pressure, conforming to individual finger grips and providing control when the handles are wet or slippery.
Some of the product features are:
* Use to skewer and lift roasts, poultry, and vegetables
* Use also with knife as carving tool
* Tapered handle with soft, nonslip sides
* Safe to use in dishwasher
* Comes with a lifetime warranty against defects
* The steel construction will not bend easily when in use.
The tapered handle with the soft non-slip sides is great feature if you have a smaller hands, as you can control the fork much easier. The barbed tips prevent slipping of the meat or vegetables. Use the OXO Steel Fork to retrieve and secure hot foods, or for hands-free serving. Both elegant and comfortable, the OXO Steel line of kitchen and household tools feature brushed stainless steel handles for strength and durability and trademark flexible fins for ultimate comfort. I use the OXO Steel Fork for piercing potatoes, transferring a pot roast from pan to platter, and securing meat during slicing, great for transferring a turkey on Thanksgiving Day or that Christmas ham for carving. Also, those sweet potatoes can be handled far easier with this fork than any other that I've used in the past due to the barbed fish hook tips. Once you have your sweet potato where you want it then with a simple pressure from a pot holder or your knife, your potato is removed from the fork
It seems that the uses for this fork are as many as your imagination can come up with and it doesn't fail. It is very well-constructed not too heavy, but very versitile and handy in your hand. I enjoy the dishwasher safe as there are times that I generate many different pots and pans and items that I can get a head start on by popping them into the dishwasher.
I loved this fork so much I bought a second one just to help out with the holiday cooking and not only I, but whomever is cooking with me, can enjoy the same convenience, stability, and gripping power. Also, I use both forks for the bigger, bulkier meat cuts with confidence. The fork is long enough that when you fry chicken in the skillet you don't get the oil splatter on your hands and forearm.
This is an item that you'll want in your kitchen for the reason I've described. The fork is a bit more expensive, but the quality of this fork makes up the difference. I use it to get items off of the BBQ grill surface without fail. This is a very useful item.

Jean Dubost Laguiole 3-piece Cheese Knives Corkscrew Set--Ivory Handles
I am almost embarrassed to admit how many Laguiole cheese sets I've acquired, but suffice to say that I am hooked. And for good reasons in my opinion.First, compulsive personality aside, this set is exceptionally well crafted. Consider that a run-of-the-mill cheese knife set that is mass produced in an Asian factory is probably going to retail for about the same twenty-six bucks this is going for at the time of this review. Granted, some of the materials will probably be identical, and perhaps the craftsmanship will be close to the untrained eye. But there is something to be said for tradition, and this set was made in accordance with a longstanding tradition of pride and craftsmanship in Thiers France.
Second, the design and balance of any Laguiole utensil or instrument is unique to that brand. The reason I included 'instrument' is I have a Laguiole made fountain pen too! There is something about the shape and curves that seems to magically distribute the weight of these knives and corkscrew. It is that characteristic that fuels my addiction.
Another nice touch for every genuine Laguiole product is the wood box in which it ships. The box itself is nothing particularly special. Just wood with a cutout for each utensil. But it is almost a tradition to ship their products in such a box, and the box comes in handy in organizing your utensils in a drawer. There is no top there never is (at least for the sets I own).
This makes a perfect gift, or a no-nonsense cheese and wine set that was designed to be used instead of displayed.
OXO SteeL 4-Piece Cheese Knife Set
Okay, no one NEEDS a set of four cheese knives, but if you want some that are more about function than appearance, this is the set for you. Don't get me wrong, they don't look awful or anything, but they're black rubber and stainless steel for functional use. There are also very elegant polished stainless cheese knives out there, but those are much more decorative items. So, if you're actually going to use the cheese knives, these are good ones. The handles are comfortable with a good grip, and the blades are moderately sharp out of the box. Decent price too for the set.I love OXO products. They are durable and ergonomic. This cheese knife set did not disappoint. The packaging explains which knife is for which kind of cheese, although it is easy to figure out after you throw out the box. When you bring this set out, people will know that you are serious about cheese!Zojirushi BB-PAC20 Home Bakery Virtuoso Breadmaker + Stainless Steel Measuring Spoons, 4-Piece Set
I received the virtuoso bread machine and was expecting the first loaves to be not that great. However, much to my surprise, as i have never made a loaf of bread in my life and so these are the first ever, the first loaf (organic whole wheat) came out good, not great. Why? I used olive oil and did not put it with the other liquids, i put it last with the dry ingredients. The bread tasted great, but the shape was a little off because of my mistake. Now, on to the next loaf (organic whole wheat banana) and i made a few changes to the recipe and made sure i put all liquids first. The loaf came out almost perfect! It was shaped really nice with a smooth top and we sliced it into a regular loaf of bread. This loaf tasted better than the first but the only reason it was not perfect, i only put one banana and thus, the banana flavor was weak. Although the banana was weak, the taste was great and my kids love it. The reason we bought this machine is because our children go through a loaf a day and we were buying organic whole wheat from Whole Foods and so you can imagine the costs. With the virtuoso, we cut the price in half per loaf, it taste just as good if not better and we control the ingredients.Ease of use? We found the machine to be very easy to use and the instructions are easy to follow. As long as you measure correctly and put the ingredients in the proper order, this machine is very easy to use. Basically you put the liquids first, then the dry ingredients, set the program for the bread you want to bake, close the lid and then press start. It is really that simple. Because the bread pan is made of non-stick material, the bread comes right out without a problem. I cannot stress how easy this machine is to bake a loaf bread. Remember, we have never baked a loaf of bread in our lives. For clean up, it is a breeze. The non stick coating on the bread pan makes it very easy. With warm water and light soap, any residue comes right off.
We understand that there are less expensive bread machines available and so we cannot compare this machine to the others. However, we are very pleased with this machine because it is very easy to use, has many options for various baking items and in our household, it will pay for itself in a few months. Although some may find the unit expensive, it all comes down to what you are looking for in a bread machine. Because we are health conscious and use a loaf a day, we wanted something that was easy to use and would produce a quality product. What we really like, we control the ingredients that will eventually be eaten by us and our children.Made my third loaf this weekend and they have all turned out great. This replaced a machine I had for years and I expected to have a bit of a learning curve with the new machine but I'm already making some of my 'old favorites' with no problems. So far I'm thrilled! While expensive this machine does not disappoint. Texture is great and capacity is a plus. Recipies for Jam are very good and not as sweet as store bought.Arrived in 3 days nicely packaged and works great. The knives, cook book and measuring cups and spoons that are a part of the package offered by esavings were all there. The knives were average grade, the cook book was nice and the measuring cups and spoons were high quality heavy gauge stainless steel that have some weight to them. Not some thin cheap metal. They also were deeply stamped with the size that is easy to read.Unit works perfectly. The double blades assure a good mixing of the
ingredients no matter how thick the dough is. Very strong unit, bakes
great, highly impressed.
Star Trek Enterprise Pizza Cutter (Stainless Steel) - Perfect Gift for Trekkies - Live Long And Piz
If your pizza is as soft as a nebula or as hard as a horta, this cutter is for you (especially if you know what I am talking about!). This is a gift for the ultimate geek, or for oneself, if that ultimate geek happens to be you. Shaped in the traditional NCC-1701 style, the saucer section does double-duty here as the slicing edge no forward phasers or photo torpedos required. In terms of actual pizza cutting, this one fares about as well as any, no real improvement over my more traditional one, but nothing lacking, either. This is a great gift and a great conversation piece, and truly a gift for the Trekker or Trekkie who has everything (and it would be THE gift for anyone who knows the difference between the Trekker and Trekkie!).Scotty, beam the pizza up now -the ship is ready; engage!I bought this as a gift for my best friend. He absolutely loved it. He even put a picture of it on facebook, right next to his kid. Now, I'm not saying he loves it more than his kid...or am I? No, of course not, but he loves nevertheless. He uses it all the time, it's not just sitting on a shelf getting dusty. It's very durable and responds well to dishwasher use. For any Star Trek fans or for friends of Trekkies out there and you know who you are, you can't go wrong with this purchase. And no, I wasn't paid for my response; even though it may seem like I was. In fact, Amazon..give me some money. From the moment you see and open the Star Trek Pizza Cutter's product box, you know you're in for a treat!
I guess I didn't expect this pizza cutter be either as large and as gorgeous as it is. It's shiny, sturdy and it's packaged as a true piece of collecting memorabilia.
I bought it as a gift, and the recipient was ecstatic! A worthy gift for any Star Trek fan, or just if you want to add a little sass to your pizza life.
(I know the person has yet to use it -tough decision... Again, the thing is gorgeousbut once they do, I'll update the review if things do go coherently with this review)I got this pizza cuter for my 39th birthday, and boy was I excited!!!!!! I made homemade pizza the next week to use on its maiden voyage. The cutter fits great into your hand, has a good weight and the blade is sharp as McCoy's wit. The problem starts on the second slice of pizza, when your hand is greasy and there is no guard to keep your hand from pushing into the very sharp blade. I was so exited to use the pizza cutter that I did not realize it had cut deep into my index finger. It was still very much fun and it's so sharp you don't feel the cut into your hand. I have a picture if your interested, but not for public display.
Overall, great looking pizza cutter, really sharp, cuts easily (even into your hand), and will look great on display.
The pizza cutter would get 5 stars, but it lost one star when I cut my finger. Maybe user error, but it was way too easy for my hand to slide into the blade.Sure, other pizza cutters are efficient, and fit better in the hand, but this is a fun kitchen tool to have, so it's worth having. Also comes in a foam-padded box you can keep to store it in.
Only issue with this tool is that the gap between the wheel and the "bridge" portion is narrow and food gets in there, requiring some attention to clean...Dry immediately after washing to prevent rust spots in the chrome.
Zelco Mangia Portable 3-Piece Flatware Set, Service for 1, Red
We took Mangia tool sets to China, where knives and forks are not always available. The knife, fork and spoon pack neatly into the plastic cover, and a set is not too heavy to carry around. The cover could be a tad larger it is a snug fit, and the cover on one of our sets cracked when snapped shut when the implements were not quite nested together perfectly. The cover was handy following a meal, when the cover could be snapped over the implements and the food residue was prevented from making a mess inside a pocket or purse.I purchased a set of these for myself and a coworker so we could stop using the plastic utensils the office provides. The knife is awesome as often a plastic knife or fork would break when trying to cut up salads. This little set is quite sturdy thus, I highly recommend it.I agree with others, the clamshell cover could be sturdier however; the first one lasted about 6 months with almost daily use. I called the manufacturer and was able to order replacement covers so we're all set there!

I also purchased this set to take to work with me so I could stop using plastic utensils every day. Overall, I'm quite pleased with the product but here are my comments:The large handle that stores all the utensils is the handle for the knife therefore the knife is a little clunky to hold, but absolutely still useable. Also, the knife is serrated and is much sharper than I initally anticipated (I guess I thought it'd be more like a dull butter knife), therefore super easy to cut food!
Like others have said, the case is cheap. It is held together on the sides with two tiny snap buttons (maybe 0.5mm in width) and the hinge is plastic also, so I absolutely foresee these snapping off at some point or another.
When fitted together, the set is about 6.5 inches long super compact and easy to store in my desk!
No more plastic utensils! Yay!

This utensil set serves it's purpose well. I like that the utensils are sturdy, durable stainless steel. They pack up compactly in the cover making them perfect for travel. Now I always have cutlery for lunch on the go. One complaint I have is the cover itself has two small plastic snaps that are prone to breaking (the snap broke on my husband's set quite quickly). The spoon is also quite deep. This may be handy for chili or soup, but feels a little strange for my yoghurt!
