Yamazaki Old Denmark 3 Piece Serve Set

Yamazaki Old Denmark 3 Piece Serve SetI love Yamazaki, especially this Old Denmark pattern. Hafnia is also fantastic. These are made in Japan and the quality shows. Handles are a tad short by 1/2 to 1 inch but overall, this is a great set. I just wish they would stop selling the butter knife as it is not required.

Curious Chef Nylon Frosting Spreader

Curious Chef Nylon Frosting SpreaderIt may be intended for "little cooks" but Mom loves it too. Great for frosting both cakes & cupcakes, nice size, cleans up really easy, doesn't scratch my nonstick bakeware. Seems pretty durable too.

It's ok. I was looking for something that would make icing easier. This is good. The blade is thick, the handle thicker and comfortable, but almost immediately I went back to using a regular knife.

Wusthof Classic Ikon Carving Knife Hollow

Wusthof Classic Ikon 8-Inch Carving Knife Hollow, BlackI added the Carving Knife to my set of Wusthof that I have been using for more than a year. This knife certainly lives up to the quality I have learned to expect from Wusthof. The feel is solid, it carves cleanly and effortlessly and it easily takes an edge when needed.

Chef'n ZipFlip Icing Spreader

Chef'n ZipFlip Icing Spreader, Cherry / AnthraciteIn my quest to find a suitable replacement for the cheaply-made spatulas that came with my Vitamix blender, I purchased two of these spreaders. I was looking for spreaders that were long enough to reach into the blender containers and I also wanted spreaders that were better in terms of thickness and quality. These turned out to be perfect replacements. The length is ideal and, unlike the original spreaders that came with my blender, they are NOT flimsy at all. I also like the smooth, nonstick surface and they seem to be resistant to staining. I've been using these for several months now and I'm very happy with them.

Bought this because the spatula we were using to apply mayo went missing. Getting down into those large containers and scooping up the last dollops for a sandwich can get messy with a spoon, and a small rubber scraper just doesn't spread like it should. Was pleasently surprized when this 'ZipFlip' arrived because it was plenty long, had a cutting edge for cakes, and was robust as far as heft was concerned.

This is one of those kitchen helpers that you will see advertized or even notice it in the store but aren't hit immediately with the vision of how it could make life easier as you cook. But once it finds a place in your gadget drawer you will find it indispensible for all those odd jobs that require venturing into the bottom of jars, pans ( a really good 'Bundt pan' scraper ), cans and smearing icing on cakes (especially cupcakes).

Handy, well made, versatile and it cleans up easily in the dishwasher. Like I said, indispensible.

I plan on buying another.

A good product. I had a larger one I used for flipping eggs and it worked well. This one is very narrow and will be used for icing cakes. It is nice and you can use both ends. It is also easy to clean and lasts a long, long time.

It is so much easier to deal with. I have high-priced steel and wood utensils, but much prefer working with the silicone variety. This spreader is sturdy and gets the job done. I love that it is quite and easy to clean and just wipe dry. The grip and ease of use is great too.

Well made and designed. I've never had a spatula/icing spreader with a blade as long as this one--makes it very easy to use and clean up.

Oneida Colonial Boston 20-Piece Stainless-Steel Flatware Set, Service for 4

Oneida Colonial Boston 20-Piece Stainless-Steel Flatware Set, Service for 4My order just arrived today, 12/26/07 and the steel was 18/0 NOT 18/8. The difference is huge, the /8 means 8% nickel, which improves the finish, but more importantly gives stainless dishware its corrosion resistance. 18/0 will corrode in the dishwasher rapidly, 18/8 or /10 will last many many years. If you aren't sure what you have, 18/0 is magnetic, 18/8 or 18/10 aren't.

I grew up with Oneida Colonial Boston silverware. When I was setting up my own house I found there were a myriad of choices. Yet, I kept coming back to Oneida and this pattern in particular. Here's what I love about this my set:

1) It's a simple pattern, not fussy but classically beautiful.

2) Even though the name of the pattern is "Colonial Boston" this flatware goes with ANYTHING. When we moved into our new house we decided to update our furnishings and chose a decidedly casual contemporary look. I changed out our plates but kept my flatware!

3) The brushed finish on these keep them looking great, even after years of use.

4) Oneida is good quality. I've never had these bend, warp or rust (of course this is with normal use). I've had mine for about 14 years but admit I've had to add to my set throughout the years -but only because pieces keep disappearing (Where DO those teaspoons go???!!).

5) They wash in the dishwasher beautifully.

6) Great for everyday or special occassions & holidays. I am not a fussy/ornate type of person. I use my set for every occasion. I've looked at "special occasion" flatware and it's all too scrolled, flowery or busy for me.

For me, the Oneida Colonial Silverware is where it's at. I never get sick of looking at the pattern and overall I just love 'em.

I bought a set Colonial Boston MANY years ago and have been EXTREMELY happy with the 'Original Set'. As you can see from the images I've added, I STILL have many of the original documents. The original 18/8 Set has served my daughters and I well over the years. It's design was perfect. Simple to hold for kids, No sharp edges other than the fork points, and no fancy, pertruding designs. REALLY, they are perfect.

But over the years some spoons and forks have disappeared. To the rubbish with frozen dinners I suspect. Only one that ran ever returned, but it was injured beyond repair from it's fight with the garbage disposal. This is when I decided to 'refill' the set. I was happy to find they were still in existance and picked up a set of 4. The differences were slight but noticable. The writing on the back. The bend in the forks. The joint of the knives. But what REALLY made them noticable, was when they came out of the dishwasher with rust spots. I didn't want my kids putting cheap, rusty silverware in their mouths. It took me a while to find out what had happened, and as others mentioned, it was Onieda's 'Bait and Switch' tactics. I was duped into the purchase of the immitation 18/0 set as well.

If a liar lies only 1% of the time, are they not still a liar? Oneida may not have done this with EVERY set, but they did it to the one I own. This immitation of the original Colonial Boston should NEVER have been called 'Colonial Boston' Or 'Minute Man' (a name this set was also known as at times). If anything, MAYBE Colonial Boston II. Still deceptive, but at least they would have told of a difference. The way it is now, it's pure deception.

I DO still love my set, and believe it's the best design and quality for a family. But I would NEVER purchase from Oneida again. My kids have heard me enough, so I doubt they will buy Oneida either...

To the person putting down Amazon, I disagree with you. They don't control the Products descriptions and Deception done by companies such as Oneida, But at least they allow purchasers to fairly display their concerns through these reviews. I feel it may affect selling prices, but I see less manipulation by Amazon on good and bad reviews that other sites who seem to only show positive reviews... Kudo's to Amazon!!!

I did my searches, and I found someone who sells individual pieces on a bay and I was able to get some in GREAT condition, matching my existing set perfectly and out of the ones I got there, only one was not labeled 's.s.s.'

Buyer Beware!!

To replace many pieces of mixed/matched economy Oneida flatware that have served me well for 15 years, I bought a 20 piece setting of the Oneida's Boston Colonial flatware, as well as, a 20 piece setting of the Paul Revere flatware. The two designs look very similar but the Paul Revere costs 3 to 4 times more. Both designs are plain and understated but of high quality and the difference between the two is minimal. The Boston Colonial pieces have more areas of a shiny finish, while the Paul Revere flatware appears to be a very slightly heavier weight. Both are 18/8 stainless, look great, and fit nicely in Oneida's stylish acryllic flatware caddy. They will serve you well for both casual and formal dining and go with just about any kind of dishware. The only reason that I can think of for the for the price difference between the two patterns is that the Paul Revere line is classified by Oneida as one of its Lifetime patterns.

Bottom line -buy the Boston Colonial from Amazon.com ASAP because I believe that Oneida now produces its latest version of Boston Colonial (shown on Oneida's website) in lower quality 18/0 stainless.

I bought this set to replace lost pieces in our old Colonial Boston set. Unfortunately, Oneida has changed the pattern of the knives. The picture shown on this page is not what I received. I did notify Amazon of this change. Hopefully they will change the picture. But be warned if you have an old set of this pattern, don't expect this set to be a perfect match.

Zwilling J.A. Henckels Oval 12-Inch Honing Steel

Zwilling J.A. Henckels Oval 12-Inch Honing SteelI purchased a book for my husband called "Knife Skills" and this honing steel was recommended. The advantages are that is is long enough to hone a 10" chefs knife. It is oval, so there is more contact between the knife and the steel. It has a ring to hang it up and a hand guard. It looks attractive, but it is huge! It didn't even come close to fitting in our block that easily holds our 10" chef's knife. We had to place a hook on the wall to hang it. We were prepared for this, so it wasn't a problem. You don't want it banging around in a drawer, so hanging from the wall or the fridge is really the only option. They put that ring there for a reason. If you are prepared for storage difficulties, it could be the best and only steel you ever buy.

If you are looking for the perfect honing steel this is it. Beautiful to look at, correct size for larger carving knives (and more than enough for smaller knives), and oval to maximize the cutting surface. This is the tool recommended by Norman Weinstein in his "Mastering Knife Skills" book. For all American, German and French-style knives.

I really like this kitchen tool. I sharpen my knives as needed and the results are wonderful. I have the honing steel hanging above my knife block for convenience... but it also decorates a very difficult tiny slice of wall. Works perfectly for me!

Zwilling J.A. Henckels Twin Pure Meat Fork

Zwilling J.A. Henckels Twin Pure Meat ForkI got tired of my cheap forks either bending, rusting, or not being strong enough to really use with confidence. I searched Amazon for a decent meat fork, and so glad I found this one--it's fantastic! It is long enough to use it to reach into the oven or down into a larger pot, and is incredibly strong--nothing is going to bend it or fall off. It cleans up easily and looks elegant if left out/seen . . . just so happy with it and plan to try more Henckels utensils.

I've been looking for a good meat fork for a long time!!! This meat fork isn't too heavy for your hand, yet it's very sturdy and well balanced!! It's even pretty. It gives you confidence to pick up anything and get it to the plate or use it to turn over something your frying. I LOVE it!! The construction is one of my favorite parts, it's all in one piece, which contributes to not worrying about the handle breaking or coming loose. HIGHLY RECOMMEND. After this review I'm ordering another one. :)

Wusthof 9-Inch Sharpening Steel

Wusthof 9-Inch Sharpening SteelIt works just fine as a sharpening steel, but it is NOT a Wusthof brand steel. First indicator is that the rod did not come in a box; rather, just had a slip of cardboard over the steel to protect it. The cardboard had "Made In Germany" and said it was a Wusthof, but...main indicator this was not legit is that the red "W" logo that is emblazoned on all Wusthof products (usually on the handle) was IMITATED with a red "W" sticker. Dude. The sharpening rod works well and does the job overall, but obviously I feel victim to false advertising in the product not being the brand I believed it to be. Beware.

its a fair price, right weight, the wusthof label did not last too long on the handel, beside that I think its ok.

Trudeau Foil Cutter

Trudeau Foil CutterSure there are more important things than cutting the foil off a wine bottle. But when you are wrestling with a poor cutter, it feels pretty important. The first time I used this little gem I said, "You've got to be kidding me. Why didn't I buy one of these sooner?" Great design and construction. 2 sides of the cutter move back and forth to accommodate any bottle. Sharp enough to do the job right. A quarter turn with minimal pressure is all you need. I could not be happier with this product.

Bought one and like so much I bought two more for family members. Best foil cutter I have ever used. It's the simple things in life that matter.

Objective:

Cut foil from top of wine bottle with ease no need to circle the bottle countless times.

Results:

Cuts foil from top of bottle with one rotation.

Requested features:

Make foil vaporize so I don't need to be bothered throwing away or having my wife tell me to recycle the foil top. Heaven help me!

This foil cutter has been a real pleasure to use. It works effortlessly and quickly...only a quarter turn(or a little more to be on the safe side) and your foil is separated. I like the distinctiveness of the design---the sliding sections rather than being hinged on one end like most other squeeze type cutters. It is very nice looking and well constructed. Definitely recommended.

Want Trudeau Foil Cutter Discount?

I bought this item as a replacement for a completely different wine foil cutter. The original cutter was the type that had fixed cutting wheels. e.g. The wheels did not turn as you tried to cut the foil. With this cutter the wheels DO turn. Minor detail, right? Absolutely not! The fact that the cutting wheels turn while you're cutting the foil makes 1,000% difference in the experience. In fact, this product does it's job well whereas the previous product I purchased was moderately terrible.

I think in previous reviews people complained about the build quality or the cutter being plastic or whatnot....don't worry about that. For $5 (or $7 or whatever I paid) what are you going to expect? The build quality, in my opinion, is just fine for this type of product. I feel like it's plenty sturdy and, to be honest, if this one broke and I had to buy another one I would do it gladly.

Buy the thing. Drink a bottle of wine. You'll be happy.

OXO Good Grips Pro Swivel Peeler

OXO Good Grips Pro Swivel Peeler7 STARS ! Having been a Head Chef (4 STAR Hotel in Hampton Court Henry VIII's Palace) in a previous life, I know the benefits of using a highly efficient tool to make a boring repetitive task bearable. After thoroughly researching the market, I came a cross this little beauty. It even makes peeling spuds FUN ! Shush ! don't tell anyone I said that, as I don't want to be thought of as SAD. It does its job superbly well, and is a joy to use.

NOTE: In use, I found the swivel peeler to be better for rounder items such as Spuds, and the Y peeler better for longer items such as Carrots and Parsnips. Horses for courses.

When something exceeds your expectations by a country mile, then it must be really good. BUY IT NOW, you won't regret it. Its macho boyfriend, the i-Series Y Peeler, is also superb, and is also a BUY IT NOW !

If you buy both, you will make them very happy, as they can then canoodle together in the drawer in the dark !

I bought this & was amazed of the quality & the improvements over all the other vegetable peelers I have used in the past.

A super sharp replaceable blade, a rubber tacky grip, a vastly superior potato eye remover, and it has a great comfortable feel & balance. It has a little heft to it. Highly recommended by me!

Buy OXO Good Grips Pro Swivel Peeler Now

I laughed when my mother said that one potato peeler was better than another. But then I tried using hers and I stopped laughing. If you normally use a peeler (that is, if you are not a tried-and-true knife-wielding peeler) you should try one of these. Borrow a friend's if you must. I don't know why the handle should make such a difference; you'd think the blade was the important part. Maybe the blade is better quality too, who knows. But it makes a world of difference to the person who is peeling, so much easier to peel, better control, whatever. I don't know. But the difference is amazing. I have one now, you betcha!

After you get one for yourself, you might be like me and end up buying them for every bridal shower's wishing well.

This is just a fantastic peeler at a very reasonable price. Has a very comfortable handle that gives you nice control. The metal construction is a nice improvement over the original OXO peeler: its potato eyer is much sharper and easier to use. The blade is ultra sharp also. Not sure if I'll ever need to replace the blade, but its a nice option to have.

I've been using a dull old Kitchenaid vegetable peeler for more than a year now, and got fed up with it. The appeal (HA!) of this peeler is that the blade is replaceable. So it might get dull in a year, yes, but I won't have to shell out ten bucks for another peeler, I'll be able to shell out slightly less (hopefully!) for a replacement blade. And this blade is SO sharp. It seems much sharper than the Kitchenaid peeler's blade was, so hopefully it won't get dull as quickly.

Farberware Pro Forged 8-Inch Chef Knife with Clear Sheath

Farberware Pro Forged 8-Inch Chef Knife with Clear SheathI like to cook and at home we have Shun stainless steel, Sabatier carbon steel and Forschner/Victorinox stainless steel knives in the kitchen. I bought the Farberware 8" Chef's Knife and 3 1/2" Paring Knife to throw in my checked bags when I travel. I like to cook or eat in for breakfast and frequently dinner. I don't want to take my knife roll with Sabatier knives with me so after reading several reviews I ordered these. One thing I really liked was that they come with a plastic sheath / blade protector so I didn't have to buy those separately. The other thing I liked was the price of less than $20 for two forged kitchen knives.

The knives are surprisingly attractive and well balanced with a nice heft and well fitted handles, rivets, and bolster. The blades show grind marks but that doesn't affect the functionality or the overall appearance. At this price I didn't really expect the company to polish the blades to a mirror finish. They were pretty sharp when they arrived but a few minutes on a water stone got them very sharp. I use the Paring Knife more than the Chef's Knife and it has held an edge pretty well on this trip with daily use. I don't have a steel with me so I can't re-align the edge after each use to keep it as sharp as I would at home.

I would highly recommend these knives for anyone looking for a basic set of decent quality kitchen knives but doesn't want to take out a second mortgage to get them. I also like the Forschner/Victorinox line of kitchen knives with the Fibrox handles for an inexpensive alternative to Shun, Wusthof, etc. They are stamped and are lighter but very good quality.

Perfect balance, excellent handle, one-piece steel the length of the knife. A Joy to use! Very sharp, easy to clean.

Jamie Lynn Elegant Metal and Frosted Glass Vine Cake Knife and Server Set

Jamie Lynn Elegant Metal and Frosted Glass Vine Cake Knife and Server SetThe picture and reviews gave me high hopes for a decent product. The design looks elegant from far, but the quality is very poor. The blade of the knife and server seem like they are made of plastic and coated with metallic film. Both items have dull edges. Zyliss Paring Knife, Green

Zyliss Paring Knife, GreenThe knife blade is nice and sharp and the handle fits comfortably in the hand. However, the knife comes with a protective holder that I would love to be able to use to protect the blade. The holder is so poorly designed that I cut myself severely the first time I attempted to insert the knife into it. If you buy this product, forget about trying to protect the blade, and just use the knife alone.Zyliss Paring Knife, Green

This knife is perfect for just about any precise cutting task. The handle is grippy, and easy to hold. The blade is somewhat thin, but not so thin that it can't cut through carrots with ease. Very balanced weight. All around decent knife for the money, and the design is nice. I prefer not to use the plastic sheath, primarily to prevent premature blade-dulling. As another reviewer noted, the stylized sheath has an opening near the tip that exposes the blade during insertion. If the sheath is held improperly, you can easily slice yourself. However, the sheath is handy, and I will keep it to protect the blade during transport. I could easily see myself buying another primarily for camping trips.

Update: First off, don't listen to me. I am not a chef. I actually use this knife often and I use it for everything from opening packages to stirring soup to flipping burgers. I use one utensil if I can so I don't have as many dishes to wash. Anyway, this knife, despite my earlier comments (below), is a good, sharp and useful item. I feel my 3-stars is a bit harsh... but then again, this isn't Japanese damascus from a master either.

Previous comments: I like knives and I'm Swiss. This was a spontaneous purchase. I am using it quite a bit... since it's affordable and easily sharpened it might even spread some peanut butter since it seems to be out of the drawer more than other knives.

That being said... It was not perfectly sharpened on arrival. Within a week it had a small knick in it. I resharpened it then it's nice.. but didn't hold it's edge long. 3-stars.

This Zyliss has become somewhat of a utility knife in our kitchen since the other blades I ordered the same day are much sharper, hold a refined edge better and seem precious compared to this. I'd like to give it 4-stars for the superior handle and cool guard... but a knife is really about cutting performance.

Update: There's nothing more to add. It was sub-$10 and it's very handy. I do think there are better. I ordered a Mora for outdoor use that is 10X the knife this is... but I also ordered a few kitchen blades that are much nicer.. in the same price range.

Would I buy another of this same knife? 3-stars... unlikely.

KitchenAid 3-Piece Paring Knife Set

KitchenAid 3-Piece Paring Knife SetVery handy and useful knives. Cooking can be easy and pleasurable if you have the right tools. Well made and fit nicely in your hand. Recommend them for anyone who cooks on a regular basis.

These knives are very nice, especially considering the price. You might wonder why you need three paring knives. Well, the bird's beak knife really does make peeling an apple or such easier than an ordinary paring knife. The trimming knife has some advantages of the bird's beak knife with a pointed end, but I haven't found anything it's specifically superior for. The sheep's foot knife is my favorite shape for a general-use vegetable and fruit knife.

If you do much knife work on fruit and vegetables, you'll enjoy having all three.

Kyocera Revolution Series 3-1/7-Inch Paring Knife, Black Blade

Kyocera Revolution Series 3-1/7-Inch Paring Knife, Black BladeThe fact that you are even reading this suggests that you already know the arguments in favor of ceramic knives. Ceramic knives are harder than steel knives, can be made much sharper than steel knives, hold their edge ten times longer than steel knives, are lighter than steel knives, won't brown foods, transfer a metallic taste or smell, or rust.

You probably also know the disadvantages of ceramic knives. Unlike steel knives ceramic knives can chip or break so you want to avoid dropping them, tossing them in a sink or kitchen drawer, or arguably even washing them in a dishwasher. (Most ceramic knives come in fitted plastic packing material that can be saved, or you can store them in something like this Kyocera Bamboo 3-Slot Knife Block.) If you actually succeed in dulling a ceramic knife, it will need to be professionally sharpened, though Kyocera has come out with a sharpener for home use: Kyocera Electric Diamond Knife Sharpener for Kyocera Ceramic Knives. Unlike steel knives ceramic knives cannot flex without breaking so there can be no such thing as a ceramic boning knife, and you only want to use ceramic knives to cut boneless meats. Finally, although using a proper cutting board is a good idea with fine steel knives, it is an absolute requirement with ceramic knives; using a ceramic knife to cut something on a plate is an absolute no-no.

So the only remaining question is whether to go cheap: Harbor Freight Tools Ceramic 3 Inch Paring Knife or expensive: Kyocera Revolution Series Ceramic 3 1/7 Inch Paring Knife Black Handle, Black Blade, and due to the fortuitous timing of a couple of good sales I can offer an opinion.

Blade: The Harbor Freight blade is double bevel ground while the Kyocera Revolution blade is chisel ground. Along with Kyocera's claims that its micro-grain ceramic is more dense than its competitors, this should result in a sharper blade, but any difference was too subtle for me to detect. Both knives will be MUCH sharper than any steel knife you are used to, cutting through citrus rinds (and even seeds!) like butter.

Handle: Both the Harbor Freight and Kyocera Revolution have superficially similar ergonomic handles, but I noted a couple of significant differences. In the Harbor Freight the finger guard is part of the handle while in the Kyocera Revolution it is part of the blade. Surprisingly, I found the Kyocera Revolution handle a bit slippery, which in light of the consequences of dropping it is significant. The tackier surface of the Harbor Freight handle provided me with a surer grip.

Color: The Kyocera Revolution paring knife is also available with a white blade in six handle colors:

Kyocera Revolution Series Ceramic 3 1/7 Inch Paring Knife Black Handle,

Kyocera Revolution Series Ceramic 3 1/7 Inch Paring Knife Blue Handle,

Kyocera Revolution Series Ceramic 3 1/7 Inch Paring Knife Green Handle,

Kyocera Revolution Series Ceramic 3 1/7 Inch Paring Knife Orange Handle,

Kyocera Revolution Series Ceramic 3 1/7 Inch Paring Knife Red Handle,

Kyocera Revolution Series Ceramic 3 1/7 Inch Paring Knife Yellow Handle;

the Harbor Freight paring knife is available in any handle color,...

as long as it is black.

Sharpening: If you manage to dull your Kyocera Revolution knife, Kyocera will sharpen it in return for shipping and handling; if you manage to dull your Harbor Freight knife, you are on your own.

Price: This obviously varies but in most cases you can expect to pay between twice as much and four times as much for the Kyocera Revolution paring knife as for the Harbor Freight paring knife.

Note: An inexpensive Kyocera Ceramic Y Peeler in all of the matching handle colors, is also available.

These knives are extremely sharp and seem to hold an edge but the blade is thicker than steel and consequently the blade tends to get stuck in food that doesn't just fall away. Other than that these knives are great. They slice a ripe tomato without crushing and raw meat with ease. I use these knives as often as I can.

I have purchased a dozen paring knives over twenty years and these do not compare to permanently SHARP, (just bought one $140 Shun, little different) ... I lost my last ceramic and boy, boy did I miss it, now I love to cut everything in sight again... cannot go wrong (do not buy with little kids, too sharp and might break) GREAT PRODUCT A+ buy three and leave them around for all tasks... lasts forever!

Note that this isn't a professional review. I cook for fun and not a knife "expert"

You won't be able to shave with this knife.

That being said, the knife is really sharp, so you won't have trouble getting transparent cherry tomato slices if you wish to.

It feels really good in the hand and being so light is an advantage for a pairing knife in my opinion.

It also looks good and makes you want to use it :)

Celtic Charm Cake Serving Set

Celtic Charm Cake Serving SetVery pretty. Matched other Celtic Charm pieces perfectly. They are not the highest quality but served the purpose of cutting my sisters cake at her wedding.

Pretty but fell apart. When I took them out of the box one of the Celtic charms fell off. I wouldn't reccomend them.

8PC STEAK KNIFE SET

8PC STEAK KNIFE SETI was quite disappointed with this steak knife set. I know that being so reasonably priced, I could not expect a great quality, however, the first time we used them I was serving steak to guests and a steak knife's handle broke. It actually cracked in half and the meat was not tough. That was embarrassing to say the least.

You get pretty much what you pay for. If you just need some everyday steak knives and don't really care too much about how beuatiful or well-balanced they are, then you're ok.

Purchased these some time ago, nothing fancy, just a good no frills steak knife, after months of use they are holding up fine and seem to be immune to the effects of dish-washing. I doubt you can be the price, go ahead, get em. YVT, Jason, the people's reviewer.

I love cheap knives for a few reasons. I use them for one-off cutting tasks in the kitchen. I like the cheaper steel because it is lower in carbon content and thus holds up better in the dishwasher. I also like the duller blades so I can cut more carelessly without as much fear of cutting myself.

And despite my love of cheap knives, these knives are far, far too cheap even for my tastes. Cutting through mildly hard cheese has broken three of them already: the metal tang barely goes into the plastic handle at all, so any resistance breaks the metal right out of the handle.

Additionally, several of them have rusted after one trip through the dishwasher. Fascinating.

I bought these to replace some cheap knives ($20 for a full set of steak knives plus six large knives plus a block) that rusted after ten years of dishwashing. These are far, far, far worse than those. I'll be tossing the rest of them and upgrading to a slightly more expensive cheapo knife.

P.S. The ridiculous gift box is annoying too. Really? What kind of jerk would ever give these as a gift? Printed right on the box (but not depicted in the photo) is some ridiculous price like $19.99. If you give these as a gift and imply that you spent $20 in them, your friend will think you are an idiot for spending that much money on rubbish and a jerk for gifting such rubbish.
