Towle Wave 20-Piece Flatware Set

Towle Wave 20-Piece Flatware SetYou will not be disappointed with this flatware! It is sturdy, has a nice heavy-weight feel, great balance, beautiful set that can be dressed up or down, and cleans up easily in the dishwasher. Knives are sharp enough that my steak knives are gathering dust. Spoons are sturdy enough that I don't bother with an ice cream scoop because these won't bend a bit.

Maybe it's the by-product of too many years eating with cafeteria silverware and hand-me-downs, but when I went shopping for a new set of flatware, I knew that I wanted something that felt substantial in my hands. I went to the local Bed, Bath and Beyond, and picked up every knife from their various display sets to find one that didn't feel flimsy or awkward to hold. As soon as I picked up the Wave knife, I knew that I'd fallen in love (I didn't know that was possible with flatware). Each piece is balanced wonderfully, and the handles are comfortable in your grip. Amazon had a much better price, so I bought online, and had the benefit of knowing that these are so much more impressive in person than they initially appear online.

If you are only going to buy one set of flatware, I recommend the Wave. It is sturdy and dishwasher safe, making it great for everyday use, but it looks striking laid out on my dining table with good china as well. I've received lots of compliments on this set.

Very highly recommend! Best silverware for the price, hands down.

I love the feel of this simple, yet elegant set. However, within a very short time of owning this set the pieces seem to be falling apart. It looks like the silverware is actually a silver coated plastic, and some of the silver has come off.

im very picky about my silverware and just recently rid myself of a great set because i purchased this Wave flatware. I am fond of a rounded handle because i want to be able to fork cut something on my plate without the handle digging into my other finger. This flatware exceeded my expectations for quality and looks. I am not fond of having to put them in the dishwasher (handwashing them creates finger prints/smudges on the handles) but they come out shiny perfect everytime. i am using these as everyday silverware but for some people it'd be the "good silverware" to put away for special occasions. I did, however, have to purchase another (bigger) set from another website because my family is larger than most and amazon did not have the 42 piece. I am happy with this product and Amazon shopping.

This set looks nice and arrived in time but the very first time I used them, I noticed one of the forks had gotten scratched. It was a small party with just four adults and I hand-washed them immediately after. Needless to say I was very disappointed.

Want Towle Wave 20-Piece Flatware Set Discount?

I love this flatware. The stems have a round cross-section, not flat, which means that not only does it have good weight, but that they are stronger in terms of bending. I plowed through rock-hard ice cream (freezer on too cold) without any bending at all. They also look really nice, and dont get spotting from the dishwasher.

There is only one problem I see, and that is on that most people probably wont have. I eat my meals from the coffee table/sofa/my lap, and the weight of the flatware often causes it to fly off the plate if I move the plate. This was never an issue with crappy lightweight flatware, but if you dont move your dinnerplates with the forks hanging off the edge, lol, you shouldnt have a problem.

All in all, I am really happy with this set. Good job.

J.K. Adams 17-Inch-by-9-1/2-Inch Large Ash Wood Wave Knife Tray

J.K. Adams 17-Inch-by-9-1/2-Inch Large Ash Wood Wave Knife TrayWhen I open my knife drawer, my friends exclaim "ooh, Ahh" how beautiful. This product makes for a great quantity of knifes and looks terrfic. Also I have easy access to all my knves.

The item pictured is the J.K. Adams Medium Wave Ash Wood Knife Tray, not the large version. With the large, the steel sits in the middle of the tray with room for three large and four small knives on either side. It is also a lighter shade of wood than depicted. It can be seen on J.K. Adam's website, but even that one doesn't match what was actually delivered in one to me significant respect. The dowels that run cross-wise though the bottom of the product are not flush with the sides of the tray as shown, but rather stick out nearly one quarter of an inch on either side. This not only gives the tray a less polished, craft fair kind of look, it brings the total width to just under ten inches (as opposed to the 9 1/2 inches specified) which in my case made it just a hair too wide for the drawer I had picked out for it.

Overall the tray seems reasonably solid, though I was also disappointed with the quality of the finish and the way it was packaged. There are two small rough, splintery patches across the top that will require sanding. The item came in a stiff plastic wrap with a label that was stuck to the top of the product with what looks like the rubber cement type adhesive you typically see, but turned out to be some kind of semi-liquid goo that smeared all over the wood and was difficult to clean off. It had also oozed into the knife slots and it was a real pain to clear it out.

I like the overall design and the way it holds my large knives, so I'll probably keep it. But if I had to do it all over again I think I'd explore some other options.

This knife tray is very well designed, solid construction and fits nicely in my 2nd kitchen drawer. It holds 6 large knives and 8 steak knives, plus the sharpener. It's the perfect place to have all your good knives in one spot and keep them in top notch condition (and off your counter which is important to me). The shipping was super fast as well! Thanks.

This drawer insert is a good and functional knife holder. It is a good size and holds all the knives a typical kitchen would have. The construction is good, and I think it would hold up to normal use for your lifetime, but it is stapled together rather than screwed.

Great product. Saves counter space and allows me to make a sharps drawer that's off limits for my children. I finally found one that fits perfectly and fits all of my knives (including steak knives) without wasting space. In my drawer (approximately a 10"x20") it allows a little extra space in the front for my scissors, other sharp items and a childproof lock. Handles are easily accessible given the design. Look at the picture carefullly. The black area next to the block is just extra drawer space covered by a felt liner (not part of the product). When it's in your drawer it's just the wooden part. Still, I love it and would recommend it as a must have to moms and a great kitchen addition to others.

Farberware Classic 17-Piece Tool and Gadget Set

Farberware Classic 17-Piece Tool and Gadget SetI cook as a serious hobby and own plenty of turners, spoons and measuring cups, mostly in stainless steel. However, I have a son who recently married and I have been buying some basic kitchen gadgets for them. I thought that this set would be useful and it seemed like a good value (they complain that I am always spending too much on them each time that they see me.) Farberware is a name that I recognized, not high end but not the worst, so I decided to give it a shot. Here is my take on each item included here:

* The spoons and the turners: Fairly well-made with a nice feel to them. The handles feel weighted and are well balanced. The turners were a little more rigid that I would like but over all I give them 4 stars.

* The can opener: It's okay, not really well made but it should hold up for a few years. 3 stars.

* The measuring cups and spoons: Again, not great but usable. They look like something you would pick up at the dollar store, however they are well marked with their respective sizes. 3 stars.

* The spatulas: They seemed to be pretty cheaply made and were overly soft. 2 stars.

* The vegetable peeler and the pizza cutter: Junk, I don't even think that they would work more than once. They were so cheaply and poorly made that I would have been embarrassed to give them to anyone. I threw them straight into the trash can. 1 star.

Overall, the set is just barely acceptable and if I had it to do over again I would have bought something else.

I picked this because it has nearly everything you need to start building your kitchen. We are moving into a new apartment and are bringing nearly nothing from our previous places. So, this was the perfect choice. You cannot find something that includes such a variety at this price in the stores. By no means are these super thick top of the line items. But, you will find sturdy tools that you can use daily and you won't cry for your wallet if something breaks.

The Coconut Tool Stainless Steel Coconut Meat Removal Knife

The Coconut Tool Stainless Steel Coconut Meat Removal KnifeI must admit, it is easier getting the meat out with this tool than, let's say, a knife or other sharp gadgets. However, you still need a lot of muscle using it. I would say that it took me about 5 minutes versus the advertised 60-90 seconds(very misleading) Moreover, the meat did not neatly come out in one piece. My right hand is still has some soreness trying to get the meat out with this thing.

Pretty disappointed because I paid a lot of money for it.

UPDATE TO REVIEW: 8/22/12

Purchased this in mid July, used it a few times and decided to keep it although it was not as easy to use as the description states. HOwever, I'm very upset because rust is starting to appear. I never really looked very close to the metal itself( I just assumed that it would be a very high quality metal due to the price), but there is a pin sized hole or something there and a few other places are beginning to rust. This is very shocking because I purchase quite a bit of metal kitchen gadgets and treat them about the same in terms of cleaning and maintenance. Wash after use and let air dry completely after dried. This is the only metal material that is rusting.

I wanted to return it for an exchange, but I wasn't able to because the window for a return for exchange expired 7 days ago. This is so frustrating. An item that can pose a health concern cannot be returned after 45 days?

If you love coconuts or just need to open one now-and-then or weekly as I do, THEN THIS TOOL IS FOR YOU! Let me explain: I am off of dairy and grains, so my primary "milk" is coconut or almond. All of the commercial brands have gums or other thickeners that I cannot tolerate, so I must make my own milks. My technique for making coconut milk is easy, starting with fresh whole coconuts--HOWEVER before I met the COCONUT TOOL, the best way for me to open coconuts was to put them in a 400 degree oven and wait until they cracked open, and then it was a hassle to separate the meat from the shell. The COCONUT TOOL has two winning attributes: the first is the video link that the inventor of the tool sent to me after I had purchased the tool this video showed how easy it was to crack a coconut and then how to use the tool to remove the meat. The second is how the tool has drastically reduced the time that I took to make my coconut milk. This tool really works it now takes me about 30 minutes to make milk, beginning from a hand-held coconut through blending, through the straining in a nut bag, freezing some of the milk, and filling my mason jar for refrigerator storage. I love this tool just about as much as I love my morning cinnamon or pumpkin pie or apple pie lattes NO SUGAR! I heat some fresh coconut milk in a ceramic-coated fry pan, transfer to my coffee cup, aerolate the milk to a thick foam, then add coffee down the inside of the cup and top all of this with cinnamon or pumpkin pie spice....ah, then I relax and sip the coffee through the thick milk. .... end of review gotta go brew up a batch!

Oh, the milk is great on oatmeal and easy to cook with, but you gotta get the TOOL to end once and for all the frustration of opening coconuts and removing the meat! Fun tool I like fun tools in my kitchen!

Buy The Coconut Tool Stainless Steel Coconut Meat Removal Knife Now

This curved knife is great to remove coconut flesh. I assume that the age of the coconut has to do with the ease of removing the flesh, though I don't know how you'd know the age of a coconut from the outside. It took more strength than I have to get the tool fully underneath the coconut meat and I had to ask my husband to take over thus the 4 stars. It probably would have taken me about 10 minutes on my own. I do have to say that without this knife I just wouldn't buy coconuts for the pain it is to try and get everything with other tools. It's very sturdy, not flimsy whatsoever, I feel comfortable that it won't slip out of my hands and am not scared of it cutting me. The blade has just enough sharpness to get between the husk and the meat but not enough to cut someone reaching into a drawer. Coconuts truly are a miracle food so I thank you for this product!

I first learned about this product from an online video about how to make fresh coconut milk. Since then, I always wanted to try. I personally like a lot of dishes with fresh coconuts but the task of opening one always deterred me. For me, there are 3 steps in opening a coconut. First, make two holes to pour out the liquid. Second, crack through the middle to split it into 2 halves. And lastly, extract the meat from the shells. The third step is by far the hardest and this tool is just the thing for the job.

First off, this thing is made from very high quality and strong stainless steel. I can feel the sturdiness when holding it. It takes a little strength to push it into the coconut and I don't see it bend or give way one bit. Because of its build, I can really feel my strength transferred into the task efficiently. I hate using things that wiggle or bend because you know it's taking power away. This thing really feels like it'll last forever.

Secondly, about its function. When using this, one has to understand how to do it. Brute force is not the way to go. When holding the coconut half in one hand, I will look over it poking with the tool to find a good entry point. From there, I just use enough strength to get the tool a centimeter or two into shell. From there, I'll wiggle it until it opens up more space on the side. I'll then move the tool to the new place and wiggle some more. Rinse and repeat and soon you'll find more and more meat is dislodged from the shell. After a while with this, I'll push it in deeper to try to pry the whole thing loose. I was able to get a perfect half coconut dislodged from the shell in my first attempt! Compared with my old way of doing it with a hammer and knife, this is a world of difference.

Overall, I am happy with the purchase. My old attempt took many times longer and makes a huge mess. I usually do it in the yard. Now, I can finish a coconut in 10 minutes in the kitchen. Great product.

UPDATE: I watched the video as Hugh suggested and bought another coconut just to try this tool out again and basically the difference was using the counter vs my hand. Once I used a counter as leverage the meat came out very easily with this tool. The first half I got the meat out very easily and quickly, the second half which was smaller (coconut didn't break perfectly even) took me a little more time but still not too long. It is a very good product and I would recommend it to anyone who wants to use it to demeat their coconuts. Thank you Hugh for caring about the customer satisfaction of your product, we need more inventors like you.

I was not able to remove meat in less than 60 seconds with this tool. I've only tried with one coconut but it was just as difficult as usual. I ordered this tool because I saw someone on youtube using it but they weren't removing the meat in less than 60 seconds either, maybe like 10-15 minutes. I worked on one half of the coconut but then got frustrated with the small pieces I was getting for the amount of time and work I was putting into it. I was also afraid of stabbing myself so I just stopped, never ended up going back to that coconut to finish it. I will try one more time with a new coconut and update my reveiew if anything changes. I've recently been told that you can just hammer the coconut once it's been broken in half and the meat will start to come off. I will do a comparison.

WMF Profi Plus 11-Inch Cheese Knife

WMF Profi Plus 11-Inch Cheese KnifeI used this knife on about 7 different kinds of cheeses (hard / soft) and it always gave me excellent slices. Not sure how someone would give it one star!

I like my other WMF tools, but am very disappointed in this one. I have little experience in low-cost cheese knifes, but regret my purchase of this knife.

The knife is steeply beveled on one side, which results in crooked cuts. Perhaps all cheap cheese knifes have this flaw? I don't know. What I do know, is that a bread knife does a better job of cutting semi-soft cheeses than this knife, and a more expensive cheese knife does a better job than both.

If you're looking for a cheap cheese knife, try a different one. Maybe it's better, maybe it's not. This one is no better than the bread knife you already have.

We have owned this knife for over 10 years and and gave us very good cuts with all types of cheeses. The one problem we had was the blade cracked through to the hole nearest the handle. This is a pity as we loved this knife. WMf has no warranty policy that I know of, so I am a little reluctant to purchase a similar one again.

My wife and I fell victim for the cheap price tag. And that's exactly what we got--CHEAP!

This item is completely useless as a knife holder. Upon taking it out of the box, we found only a 2" area was strong enough to hold a knife! The other 11" was a huge "dead spot", not even strong enough to hold our smallest paring knife or a metal ruler.

It makes for quite an awkwardly utilitarian fridge magnet, but that's the best that can be said about this brick of plastic and metal. Save your money, don't even consider this item any further.

Wusthof Culinar 5-Inch Tomato Knife

Wusthof Culinar 5-Inch Tomato KnifeA good chef's knife is fine for cutting a tomato in half, or for cutting those halves into wedges. It's also possible to slice a tomato with a sharp chef's knife but one has to be careful when starting each cut, as the curve of the tomato requires a slightly different angle for starting each slice. That means slicing a tomato with a chef's knife will be a lot slower than slicing, say, a cucumber.

Enter the tomato knife. The serrations initiate the cut where the edge is placed whatever the angle between blade and skin; the legendary sharpness of the Wusthof blade then completes the slice with ease. A meal's worth of tomatoes can be reduced to slices in a jiffy provided you're right handed, since the serrations are on the right side of the blade.

This isn't just any tomato knife, though. This tomato knife is from Wusthof's premium Culinar line. In addition to having Wusthof's high carbon stainless blade with a full length tang, it also has the Culinar line's ergonomic 18/10 stainless steel handle. When one picks up the knife, the handle feels like it molds itself to one's hand, making it a joy to use. Before I got this knife, I always served tomatoes in wedges; now I look for excuses to slice them.

The price does match the premium quality, though. Whether this knife is worth that price depends on how many tomatoes you slice but if you do buy it, you may find your tomato consumption going way up!

This knife and the Wusthof 5" Santoku Hollow Edge have been the workhorses

of my kitchen for about 8 years since I bought them. We have a lot of

knives, but have never used better knives than Wusthof. This tomato

knife is irreplaceable! We use it not only for tomatoes, but also for

deli and slicing a myriad of other foods. We have been giving them

as gifts for years and each recipient praises them constantly. The

blade holds an edge for a long time, and they are easy to sharpen. This

knife has perfect weight and balance and feels comfortable in the hand.

I suggest hand-washing them, as does Wusthof. The dishwasher dulls any

knife's edge.

Buy Wusthof Culinar 5-Inch Tomato Knife Now

There are really two main competitors in the high-end mainstream kitchen knife market: Henckels and Wusthof. Those who have used both usually have a preference. My preference (and therefore bias you should know about) is for the Wusthofs.

The Wusthof Culinar line is an all stainless steel look, rather than a black handle. Although the picture and some descriptions want you to think this is a single piece knife, be advised that the hand is a separate piece of stainless steel molded onto the tang. I personally prefer the handle of the Grand Prix and Classic, because the grip is surer for me, but this is, to some extent, a matter of personal preference. This series "looks" more professional to some (like a Viking stove).

This particular model is the 5 inch tomato knife. Most cooks believe the tomato is the most difficult food to slice cleanly (thus its appearance in Ginsu commercials). I think this knife is overkill for most cooks. I happen to think the 4 ½ inch utility knife will do the trick for the mainstream cook. This knife, while a good knife, is used so rarely in my kitchen it is usually relegated to a storage location, rather than the countertop.

If you slice a lot of tomatoes, be my guest and buy this knife, it is very high quality. But, for most cooks, this knife is overkill.

OXO Good Grips Garden Knife with Sheath

OXO Good Grips Garden Knife with SheathI've been metal detecting for 25 years and have tried a number of different types of "digging tools". Garden knives offer the best size blade for quickly popping a coin out of the ground while not causing too much disruption to the surrounding grass. After breaking two of the Fiskar garden knives in half, I purchased one of these. The handle is comfortable for driving the blade into hard soil, and the full-tang construction results in no flexing when prying on something with great force. This knife is proving itself to be indestructable.

Nice Hori, excellent handle! Much better handle than the wooden ones. Very strong and sharp. Once you use a hori hori, you will not give it up. (Only downside is that it is made in China, but the stainless steel seems to be of good quality, and it carries a lifetime guarantee.) Nice!

This is a great garden knife! I use it for weeding, planting, digging out tough roots, edging, etc. Unlike so many garden hand tools this one is made to not bend or break no matter how much stress you put on it. I like it so much I have two of them in different areas of my garden. I don't care where it was made. Unlike some other folks who wrote reviews I sure don't think of this knife as a weapon even though my dandelions might not agree with me. Buy one. You will love it. Incidentally, I bought a Fiskar's garden knife first. It rusts a bit, although still useful. It is cheaper, but the Oxo is so much better.

My OXO Garden Knife was advertised accurately and true. It is well designed and comfortable to work with in the garden. I like it's big, hefty, strong utility blade and the metal work. The sheath is just perfect to attach to my side.

It is well suited for self defense also in that reminds me of a Japanese Tanto design.

The knife itself is fantastic great for pulling weeds, dividing perennials, planting annuals, bulbs, veggies, etc. It's a very thick piece of stainless steel and a nice grip. I don't expect any problems with it. Just don't lose the thing. It does have the hole in the handle so you can hang it up if you'd like. The sheath isn't all that great, it tends to swivel a bit when clipped to your belt or pants pocket. I'd definitely recommend this tool, a must for any gardener.

Wusthof blade guard 8 cooks

Wusthof blade guard 8 cooksThis is how I use this guard: to cover my 8" Wusthof knife while I store it in a drawer. And it works just as advertised. I'm not a ninja who whips this out from underneath my kimono, and I'm not constantly putting the knife in and out of the guard. When it's time to make dinner, I open the drawer, take out the knife, use the knife, wash it, and then put it back. If this describes you, then this blade guard should work well. It covers the entire blade, it doesn't seem like it is going to fall apart any time soon, and it is sturdy enough to offer protection when I throw the slotted spoons on top of it.

I bought these hoping to keep my knives safe while traveling back and forth between work, as well as while sitting on the line while I am doing something else. They looked great when I bought them, and the lining made it appear as though they were of high quality. Within a week they all started splitting down the seam, meaning they no longer protected my knives or stayed on them. I have now gone back to the no name guards that secure to the blade tighter and are made of thicker plastic. They don't look as good, but I make a living with my knives and protecting the edge so I can make perfect cuts is really all that matters.

Buy Wusthof blade guard 8 cooks Now

I tried Messermeister, Blade Saver, and Wusthof.

Wusthof is the best. The soft inner lining is gentle on the blade. It holds tight enough, but not too tight -it is easy to put it on/off a knife.

I place the cutlery in the sleeves first, then place them in the pockets of my travel bag when I cook/prepare sushi away from home. These sleeves help protect my bag from punctures or cuts, as well as keep the knives protected. Overall, I am happy with the purchases.

I really like the fact that these are felted on the inside, preventing scratches to your knives. Fits the 8 inch cooks knife and the 8 inch deli knife perfectly, and fits the 7 inch santoku very well.

Shun Higo Nokami Personal Folding Stainless-Steel Steak Knife

Shun Higo Nokami Personal Folding Stainless-Steel Steak KnifeIt's a bit expensive, but it's also a one-of-a-kind knife. It comes with a very well made carrying box and a belt holder. It's a lockback design, when fully opened it locks into place with absolutely no play from front to back or side to side. It's good steel and comes with a razored edge, but it's not Shun's 32 layer "damascus" steel disappointing. Overall a great collector's piece.

I collect quality stainless knives.

This SHUN like all there knives, exudes quality.

And yes, I use it to cut my steak.

I feels like cutting with a scalpel.

Very sharp and nice to hold.

Sits well on the dinner plate.

Comes in a presentation case, w/ leather pouch.

VG-10 is one of the super stainless steels, keep it clean!

Not cheap, and you might have to wait for delivery.

One other reviewer stated that his Nokami was not a Shun and was made in the US. I just got my Shun Higo and it is a Shun and was manufactured in Japan.

Found knife to be very high quality, plenty sharp for all my needs during travel.

Seen review about being made in USA on blade. My blade shows made in Japan.

Have complete collection of Shun knives. My Shun Higo personal used most often.

What a pleasure to use a knife rather than a saw when dining out. I am amazed at what some very good and very expensive restaurants provide for cutting beef, lamb, pork, etc. By the time you apply enough pressure and take enough strokes to carve a bite size piece so much of the taste has been lost. Be prepared for some stares, but realize most of them are caused by envy.

Edgeware Counter Safe Deluxe Knife and Scissors Sharpener

Edgeware Counter Safe Deluxe Knife and Scissors SharpenerThe sharpening system seems to work pretty well, but for some scissors it can't sharpen the whole blade. Some scissors have one straight blade/handle (for the fingers) and the other blade/handle (for the thumb) is angeled. the handle on the sharpener prevents the angled blade to insert all the way into the sharpener. I had to cut off the handle (easy to do) which helps get most off the blade into the sharpener.

I have been cutting with dull knives for a long time because I was never sure how to use sharpening stones. Would complain to my husband once my knives were incredibly dull, and he would sharpen them. Got this item, it is so easy. I now sharpen all my knives easily, and just love cutting a tomato, and it slicing so easy. I have used it for my scissors too, and it works great. Would recommend anyone thinking of buying it, it is a great buy.

I bought this sharpener primarily for scissors, which it sharpened very well. I should mention that when I tried to sharpen scissors by pulling them across the sharpening rods they would bind, but when pushing them across the rods it worked well. The instructions say this is acceptable. What surprised me was how well it sharpened knives. With just a few strokes it sharpened all my kitchen knives, with less effort than my ceramic sharpening rod. The counter protector is a plus.

picked this up for my wife as she is in cooking school and needed a good and portable knife sharpener. It works great, light weight, and sturdy. I recommend this one to anyone who needed a good knife sharpener for a decent price.

Love this sharpener! I keep it on my kitchen counter so I can sharpen knives and scissors as needed, however, I have been able to move it to other locations to sharpen my hair cutting scissors, even my cuticle scissors. I would recommend this product to anyone looking for an easy to use, effective sharpener.

Calphalon Contemporary 8-Inch Chef's Knife

Calphalon Contemporary 8-Inch Chef's KnifeI didn't know how much I needed this knife until I had it. This is my first "good" knife, and boy does it make a difference. For a long time I had heard that one good knife can be your most useful tool in the kitchen, and it is the truth! I used to be a kitchen gadget collector, but I use this knife for a lot of the things that I used to have gadgets for (frees up a lot of space in my kitchen!) I also invested in a sharpener, and try to sharpen the knife every three or four uses.

The balance of this knife is great, and it fits my hand perfectly. It was a little heavier than I anticipated, but I got used to that very quickly. This knife has replaced most of my other cheap knives, and I don't miss them a bit.

This knife is made from the same top-quality German steel used in Solingen kitchenware, but is ground and manufactured in China. This is a perfect combination, as the material is top-quality. If you want a mirror finish, spend twice as much for a Trident Wusthof...but you won't be getting a better knife, just a better looking one.

I was fortunate enough to pick this knife up as a "Gold Box" offering. Though the finish of the blade isn't as smooth and shiny as I might have expected from a company such as Calphalon, the overall quality of the knife is really exceptional, especially for the price. As you may have expected, this knife is crafted in a Chinese factory, and they never seem to "buff" their metal to quite the same degree as products from western origin. But I must say, I really love this knife. It's mass and blade curvature make it equally effective for cleaving apart a chicken or rocking through herbs to mince them. It comes with a very sharp edge, which is easily maintained by using a steel or keen to re-burnish it from time to time. The ONLY thing I'm slightly dissapointed about is the fact that the blade is just a little too thick to fit into the slot on my current knife holder block, so it spends a lot of time flat on the counter. I plan to make a new holder to house it along with my other 4" and 6" versions from the same Calphalon collection, which I have since purchased at full Amazon price--I was that impressed.

After I bought my Calphalon cookware I knew I would continue to buy their products because they are very good quality, especially for the price. I know their cookware & kitchen utensils are good, but I wasn't sure about their cutlery (some companies make quality cookware but poor quality knives). So I decided to take a chance & get the 8" Chef's knife and I am so glad I did! I think this knife is beautiful & the perfect weight. I really like the handle & it feels nice and balanced in my hand. It didn't come out of the box quite as sharp as I'd like it to be, but it's definitely sharp enough. I can't wait to get more knives & the maple block! This knife is great for everyday use!!

I was surprised at how well this knife performed. I have had no problems with it at all. It slices through things with ease. The handle is also great. The rubber on the handle prevents it from slipping, and makes the knife more comfortable. I have not tried any of the higher end knives like Wusthof or henckels so I am not sure how this performs compared to them.

Pure Komachi 2 Series Bread Knife

Pure Komachi 2 Series Bread KnifeAt my house, the bread knife gets used every single day, by every member of the family. It gets hammered.

This thing was under ten bucks, cuts through even hard crusty bread like a laser, leaves very few crumbs on the cutting board, and still cuts like a champ a year later.

When it dulls, if I can't sharpen it using a pull-through sharpener (had a little success with this so far) then I'll just buy another just like it. Your serrated, bread-type knives, should be just like this one. Cheap to replace because sharpening them is just a pain, able to hold a good edge for their purpose, easy to clean, and high performance in their intended job. The Kai reverse-scallop edge on this knife is as close to perfect in this price class as I could find.

The only change I'd make is to make it an inch longer and charge a dollar more. You can still cut the big loaves with this, but you'll wish your blade were longer. A small price to pay.

Best bread knife anywhere. Sits proudly in the block with my Shuns, which get professionally sharpened on a regular basis.

You can buy a Shun or Global bread knife, and they are insanely great. But you'll regret the cost when they need sharpening. This knife uses the Shun bread knife edge, has good quality steel, and is easily cleaned with its nonstick coating. I have two Pure Komachi knives, this one and the sandwich knife with the same edge style. I depend on both. The rest of my knives are full-on Global and Shun, and I recommend them just as highly.

Sometimes the best knife is expensive, sometimes the best knife is inexpensive. In this case, I go with the inexpensive one.

Try it--it's only a few bucks and you'll probably love it as much as I do.

This is the best bread knife my husband and I have ever used. It cuts all kinds of bread (spongy, hard-crusted, holiday fruit and nut-filled cakes, etc.)smoothly and quickly without tearing or excessive crumbs. It's also been used to slice turkey and other items -it's hard to keep it only for bread because it works so well, and also the bright orange color calls out from the knife block! But don't be fooled by the toy-like color; it's supersharp and sent me to the ER for several stitches when I fumbled it as I was showing it off to a visitor (it barely touched my finger and I didn't even feel it when it cut my finger.) The light weight of the knife may have contributed to the fumble, and is something to keep in mind when first handling it. In spite of that, it immediately became a favorite in our kitchen. This was supposed to be a temporary knife until a "good one" came on sale, but we are no longer in the market for a high-end (expensive) bread knife; this knife is great and we both highly recommend it!

I bake bread..lots of bread. Mostly, I bake the hard, crusty hearth type breads...artisan bread, if you will. When you take the time to create a decent loaf, the last thing you want is to have your bread ripped and shredded because you don't have a sharp serrated bread knife . This is the best bread knife I own. I'm ordering 2 more because my family uses the one I have now for just about everything, and I'm tired of digging around the dishwasher to find the dang thing. I like the feel of it, and the weight..it has a good balance, and the curve of the blade is great for cutting into a crusty loaf of rustic bread. I have the expensive jobbies, and nice though they are, this one is everyone's favorite. The one I have is about a year and a half old and still has a good sharp edge. For the money.....the Komachi can't be beat. (This is also great for cutting into a cantelope)

We bought an entire set of these Knives. I read the praise from other Reviewers and they are right. These are wicked sharp and as careful as I tried to be, still wound up cutting myself while cleaning one.

My gripe with these Knives are the Handle material. It is a Hard Plastic. It has no texture, design grip or rubberized coating, etc. It makes it not only feel super cheap, but outright dangerous for slipping when your hands are wet. I really was not expecting much for $8-10 a knife, but this is not something to overlook. The worst part is if the plastic gets a nick in it; you get a reminder of how cheap these knives are each time you use it, as the bur digs into you hand like a thorn. Sorry, Pure Komachi... I really wanted to like these Knives because the Blade is of fantastic high quality for the price.

I own a set of the Komachi knives: Santoku Multi, Veggie, Fish, and Tomato blade. This is by far my favorite out of all of them! This light weight blade easily maneuvers through tough crusts like butter! With the other knives, I feel like I need extra weight to the blade for stability. This is not so with the bread knife. The scalloped blade makes for a really clean cut that you can't get with a serrated edge. Excellent product for an excellent price!

Rada Cutlery Serrated Steak Knife, Made in USA (Pack of 6)

Rada Cutlery Serrated Steak Knife, Made in USA, Aluminum HandleThis 6 piece set of steak knives are not only sharp knives but they are a great-looking set of knives. Light weight but very sturdy. Perfect length. My concern before I ordered them was how they would look on a casual table setting as well as a formal table setting. They look great on both. I've had many compliments on these knives. Another feature I like about them is they were made in the USA!

These work perfectly and stay sharp a long time.

This is the second set I have owned. I owned the first set for over 20 years and I am still using it.

The handles do change color over time. But in my opinion they look just fine with a slightly darker handle.

These Rada steak knives are made in the US. They didn't come ridiculously sharp by my standards, but they cut well and they're inexpensive. The handles are a little small, but overall these are pretty decent steak knives. The blades are thin and fairly sharp so they cut rather than tear at the meat. I'd recommend them to friends who don't have huge hands.

These knives are supper sharp. You need to watch your fingers. These knives will also scratch your dishes! I notice mine are suddenly scratched. Also, I probably would pick the black handled knives if I had to do over, so I could put them in the dishwasher. That was a mistake on my part of not thinking it through.

All in all, they are the best knives around and the best priced by far. AND THEY ARE MADE IN THE USA!!!
