Suisin High-Carbon Steel Gyutou 9.5"(24cm) - Right

This is my first time buying a High Carbon chef knife and I am not disappointed. It arrived extremely sharp. After using this knife at home and at work I couldn't be happier. It has already started to form a nice patina. I do recommend that follow the manufacturer's cleaning and storage instructions. The Korin website a video on how to care for this knife. Although I have not experienced any issues with rusting I have known others who have because they neglected their knives. I have always cleaned and dried all my knives after using them, and that is must for this kind of knife. It also doesn't hurt if you spend a little extra money and get the Wooden Saya Cover Gyutou 9.4" (24cm) and Tsubaki knife oil. I can not recommend this knife highly enough.

It doesn't have a rubber grip as I thought it did but it was half the price as those that did and still fit in my holster. My hands are usually wet in a cooler for extended periods of time and the handle despite the lack of rubber has enough grip to keep working with numb hands.

The color is no doubt tan. Its a little more intense than the picture shows.

Very sharp knife that requires only occasional honing(the edge will last years even with almost daily use in a work environment).

Gulliver Corkscrew Cocobolo Handle

From the reviews I read, I thought this corkscrew would be above average. It's well made, but not any better than many others at a much lower cost. I expected a sturdier product, but I'm sure this will last many years and the design is quite nice. I don't think it was worth the money. The style is better than average.

If you order this, inspect what you receive carefully. There must be poor quality control with the manufacturer, or these must be an old shipment of returns Amazon acquired somehow. I ordered this on a good day when the price was very reduced. Since then, I have been sent one set with rough edges to the blades, one set with the fork-tip knife from the larger set included instead of the Parmesan knife, and one set in which the handles were pitted and stained, also with rough edges. These are modern and full-sized, but I am beginning to think that even with all the replacements I'll never get a good set. I just keep trying because I got a really good price on the day I first ordered. Not sure why there are so many reviews praising the craftsmanship based on my experience. Also, the box is not attractive or gifty.

Revised: If the quality is bad enough, it isn't worth it to pay the bargain price. Cheap garbage is still garbage. I tried four times because I got these for half-price the day of my order. The blades have rough edges that are going to pit, chip and rust. Every set had at least one, though most had two that were like this. Different sets had different amounts of serration on different blades. The handles in one set were tarnished a little, and another had scratches. The big issue with one set was that it had a knife that didn't belong: someone had swapped in one of the fork-tipped knives from the larger 5-item set. I thought if I had a replacement I might be able to make a good set with the best of the blades, but even with three sets in front of me I couldn't do it. True, I'm picky, but if you are only half as picky as I am these aren't going to please you either. Amazon has been great through the process with the returns and customer support, but I'm just giving up and will try something else. I don't know why others have rated these so highly; I don't think I'm crazy.

This is a very nice set for the price, with a nice looking and well made assortment of quality stainless steel cheese knives and soft cheese spreader. The knives alone are worth the price I paid.

But I did read the reviews before purchase and realized that the "Gift Box" is simply a thin cardboard enclosure with a thin plastic divider to hold the knives in place during shipping, maybe worth less than 30 cents. But the box will do until I add another slot in my flatware drawer to hold the set, and then it gets tossed.

I bought these for 14.99 as a lightning deal on Black Friday. I wasn't expecting much . . .but they turned out to be so nice. I get a lot of compliments on them. They are sleek looking and have great craftsmanship. Would pay up to $30 for these, and still consider a good deal.

I would say the quality of the knives is good for the price but I'm surprised others consider the box a "quality gift box". The box is pictured above and looks better in pictures than in person. It is just cardboard with a flimsy red plastic liner that temporarily holds the knives. My box was extremely dirty which didn't help.

I'm happy that I went against those reviews and purchased. These knives are of exceptional quality. They are stylish, and a nice solid serving tool. I was surprised at the price I bought two sets for a little over $30 which gave me 6 knives. The closest product would be a 5 knife set at over $35 so i feel extra good about this purchase.

Chroma # 800 Medium Grit whetstone

I purchased this whetstone to go with my set of chroma knives. I thought it was a little expensive, but ordered it anyway because I felt that if you have the knives then you should probably order this whetstone. It arrived very quickly and was very nice quality. It even has rubber feet on it so it will not slip when you are using it wet. You must soak the whetstone in water for about 15 minutes, until it no longer absorbs any more, prior to using. Your knife is then drawn back and forth on the whetstone at about a 10-15 degree angle to the blade of the knife. In very little time the blade is brought back to it's original sharpness or better. It is suggested to use the whetstone 70-80 percent more on the side of the hand that you use. That would mean if you are right handed then sharpen 70-80 percent more on that side than the left side or vice versa if you are left handed. I use a ripe tomato to test the sharpness on. In all I would say that this whetstone is a good valued tool that does a great job.

This little stone helps me keep my type 301 and other knives sharp as could be! Takes no room in my kitchen and easy to learn how to do it! LOVE IT!

One of the few quality carving forks on the market that fits into a slot in a standard knife block. Quality is excellent, tines are thick and stiff enough to pick up a decent sized roast from the roasting pan.

I purchased this specifically for cutting up apples. The blade is much shorter than I would like. Would work ok for a lime but just too small for what I needed it for. The handle feels too small too. Just don't like it!

I immmediately used the knife when I received it and have been totally satisfied with it. Lightweight yet sturdy, holds its edge and easy to manipulate (I'm in my 60s and this knife works very well in my arthritic hands). I've been aware of Nogent knifes since the '50s when I visited their factory as a kid and my family has had Nogent knives ever since.

This was a good paring knife for kitchen work. It was strong and sharp and worked well and I would purchase another one.

Fox Run Brands Adjustable Cheese Slicer

Finally found one that is adjustable. Had one for about 30 years just loved it but sadly it finally broke. Tried several different kinds none worked took them back. Glad I found this one hope it lasts. This has spare wire so hopefully it will be around for another 30.

I was disappointed in this product. The wire just won't remain tight... The slices get bigger and bigger, regardless of adjustment.

It will slice your cheese and even comes with a replacement wire. However, overall the unit is cheap. For instance, the backside of the handle is hollow (i assume to save on material costs) and the adjustable bit is a bit flimsy. I'd recommend spending a bit more to get a better quality product. However, it does slice cheese and has not broke yet. Just feels and looks cheap.

Came with a loose wire. I tried to tighten the wire, with no luck. My husband also tried to tighten the wire and was unsuccessful. The screw used to adjust the width of a cheese slice does not stay tight. I would not recommend this item.

Sabatier Cooks Knife 4" blade.

I bought a Sabatier 4" knife years ago, and alas, it was lost during one of our holiday feasts. We used it quite often along with some Wusthof knives. I just replaced it, will get years of use (I hope). A fine kitchen addition, keeps an edge, is balanced and feels good in hand.

Trudeau Oyster Knife Set

I was reordering one of these because we lost the one I had and decided to write a review.

I shuck a lot of oysters. My sister has the expensive Wusthof shucker that I've sometimes used, and I much prefer this one. The blade on this one is a little more blunt than the Wusthof, yet the longer blade of the Trudeau seems to be more efficient in penetrating the shell (and probably less dangerous more on that in a second). What's more, the plastic sheath of the Trudeau is much easier on your hands than the metal sheath of the Wusthof. I can usually get away without using gloves with the Trudeau using a steel sink as my "backstop", but with the Wusthof, gloves are damn near a necessity for both hands. Oysters require a fair amount of force to open, and opening multiple oysters with the Wusthof without gloves gives me a bloody ring around my index finger and thumb from all the pressure against the edges of its metal sheath. Also, its sharp blade has my fearing about a slip on the other hand. I've never had an accident with it, but I'm sure it would just be a matter of time. I'm faster with the Trudeau, the plastic sheath is hand friendly, I never have to worry about stitches from its blunt blade, and I usually never need to wear a glove only occasionally on the receiving hand only to prevent minor scrapes from gripping the oysters. I own a lot of great Wusthof knives, but do yourself and your wallet a favor and go with the Trudeau here.

I needed an oyster knife. After searching amazon for different knives I thought I would be smart and purchase not only the knife but also this plastic shell. The knife is solid and works well. However, the plastic shell is harder to use than a hand towel. When placed inside the plastic shell, the oyster stays in place but when you need to move the knife to a portion of the oyster covered by the plastic shell, you need to open the shell and rotate the oyster. It seems that a hand towel would serve the same purpose and probably not cost a penny (since most people own a towel). Just my two cents.

I was opening oysters with a screwdriver until i got this knife. Since then i've opened over a hundred with little effort using it! I haven't really used the plastic holder yet, just a glove, but the knife is of excellent quality and can really take a beating! This was a great choice!

Green Onion Negi Cutter #4235

This item is currently sold by different sellers, and not Amazon directly. Mine came from "Japan Bargain." They sent me a white color unit and not the red one pictured. I was expecting a red one based on the product picture, and would have preferred the red.

It does the job and I'm happy with it. I did not have a problem with pieces getting stuck in the blades as another reviewer stated. It is the loose outer layer of the scallion that tends to get stuck, so either remove any loose outer layers or pull out any pieces that get stuck in the unit right away without waiting for it to completely plug up. The loose outer layer doesn't shred well anyway, so you are better off removing it before starting.

This is a Japanese product, negi is scallions in Japanese, so this literally the "Scallion Cutter." The instructions are in Japanese, but you can learn how to use it with this short (don't you love short youtube videos that don't go on and on forever!) youtube video: If Amazon deletes this link then do a youtube search for "how to use negi cutter."

This green onion shredder / cutter makes perfect thin long curled strips of green onion. Perfect for green onion salad with Korean BBQ. And you can't beat the price.

My new wok cooking book highly recommended this item. I can see why. It makes a nice decorative cut on green onions. I like multi-taskers but for the low price and small space this takes up in my drawer, this is something a gourmet-ish cook will want.

I wasn't too thrilled about this green onion cutter. The green onions got stuck in the blades after a couple swipes, and then it was clogged up so I had to keep pulling the onion out of it to keep going. I've only used it once, and haven't wanted to use it again.

J.A. Henckels International Stainless Steel 8-Piece Steak Knife Set

I bought these knives at Target several years back. Although they *occassionally* get dishwasher stains on the handles, the blades themselves never get dishwasher stains on them, which is important to me; my girlfriend bought a different set of stainless steel steak knives (different manufacturer) that consistently come out of the dishwasher with massive rust stains on the blades themselves, which makes me not use them (who wants to eat rust). This makes me appreciate the Henckels set even more: I would definitely recommend this Henckels set.

I received a set of these knives aboout 5 years ago as a wedding present and bought another set to complete 12. These are great quality, durable and I've even used them combined with more formal silverware. I highly recommend it.

These were sent instead of the black-handled set I ordered so I thought I would give them a try. They are listed as "dishwasher safe", but evidently are not. Brown stains (rust?) appeared on the tops of all the handles. I cleaned them with silver polish, but the stains reappeared with subsequent washings. I have returned them and received a refund.

I purchased these knives to replace another brand that I was unhappy with. For the price, I did not expect much. However, I am very pleased with them! They look great and have a very nice feel when you are cutting with them. I have had them for almost a month now and have no problems with them at all. I put them in the dishwasher every time they are used, which is very often, and they are not discoloring or anything. They look great after repeated washings! I would buy them again and would recommend them to anyone.

Well.....it is now December 29, 2007 and these knives are still great! I have not had any problem with them being washed in the dishwasher. They still look like they did the day that I received them. I would still recommend these knives to anyone!

These knives look great, but are too small in the hand and have a poor serration design. I eat a lot of steak and I am a professional chef. The knives will actually start to hurt your hand when eating a rare ribeye steak.
