I purchased this product because it was recommend on America's Test Kitchen. I didn't expect much, but I was wrong. The serrations do seem to improve the cutting ability of this blade.I find that I reach for this peeler more frequently than I do my non-serrated peeler. It not only works well on tomatoes, but also on lemons, asparagus, sweet potatoes and butternut squash. I believe that this peeler could function well as the only peeler in a kitchen.
If you need a new peeler, try buying one of these before purchasing a standard peeler. I have been pleasantly surprised at how well this peeler works on both delicate and hard vegetables.I like using this to peel kiwi fruit. It gives a nice clean peeling to the fruit. A regular paring knife will take too much of the skin hence too much of the flesh. But you must be careful with it, I once cut the tip of my pointer finger while peeling the kiwi fruit and it was quite painful. The serrated blades are very, very sharp. Another negative about this peeler is that the skin of the kiwi fruit got stuck on the teeth of the blades and I had to manually pluck out the skin. I think this slows down the rhythm and thus the efficiency of the peeler. My experience is that if you peel "slippery" fruit or vegetable like kiwi or tomato, you must be very careful that the fruit does not slip out of your hand when you use this peeler or you might risk injuring yourself just like I did. I usually cradle the fruit in paper towel to prevent from slippage and peel with extra caution.

This is one of those simple tools that one takes for granted until the realization comes that small changes make big differences. I'm just ordering my second one now, the first having served a long and honorable career. The addition of very fine serrations to the edges on this peeler greatly improves its performance with thin-skinned or juicy products like tomatoes, peaches, mangoes, kiwi, and the like. Practice with it until your peeling stroke begins with the slightest sideways slide...it only takes a little...and you can make fast work of an otherwise messy and tedious job. If, as one reviewer noted, you have trouble with peel sticking between the blades, try tapering your peeling stroke as it comes to an end. This will cause the peel to taper to a point and fall cleanly from the blade. It just takes a little practice.If I had a bushel of fruit to peel, I'd still opt for a razor-sharp paring knife. But for normal household quantities, or if your skill with a small knife is not all it could be, this is a great addition to the kitchen gadget drawer.

I purchased four of these OXO Serrated peelers on the 4 for 3 promotion last Christmas. Initially they worked great and I loved then that is until this fall. This is when I started having difficulty with them. When I looked carefully at the blade, I could see that some the teeth of that make up the serrated edge were bent and and some had broken off. Once the peeler looses some of its teeth it is no longer effective. The bent teeth catch on the produce. When you press harder to get it going it bounces off the produce and into the hand holding the produce. Ouch! Plus, Where the teeth are broken off, the peel remains on the produce. My Oxo serrated peelers failed one by one and now, not even a year later, all have been thrown away.I would recommend the Mario Batali serrated peeler instead. I have one of these that I have been using for several years and it is still intact and going strong. Though the Mario Batali doesn't peel the produce quite as well as the Oxo did when it was new...it has stood the test of time, which is very important to me. The knife has an oustanding blade, the 80/20 angle is sharp right out of the box.my poblem was the handle, mine wasn't set or cut perfectly.the metal was taller than the wood in some places creating an entrance for bacteria and it just didn't sit perfectly in my hand due to uneven build.Unless you are a picky chef this wouldn't be an issue.

I had been looking for this beaded design without any other ornamentation and was quite happy to finally find it. All pieces looked good and had a nice heft, but unfortunately, the edges were rough and, in some spots, even a bit sharp. Maybe my expectation exceeded the price point for this set. I was a bit hesitant to order this after reading some reviews that said it was hard to install properly/evenly. I had visions of a wobbly knife rack, but decided to order it anyway.Well, here's how NOT to have a wobbly knife rack (and it's Norpro's fault for not including any instructions whatsoever): the black plastic parts at each end which eventually hold the screws, COME OUT! Yes, they slide out from the back of the bar. So what you should do is remove those plastic end pieces, measure the correct distance and put the screws into the wall, then slide those plastic pieces around the screws, and snap the magnetic bar back on.
That's what I wound up doing, and the bar is perfectly mounted on the wallnot at all wobbly or loose.
The product itself is nice, heavy quality, and a good length. Totally happy with it, and would buy it again.The knife holder is very nice. It works well, tension is just about perfect for keeping the knives secure and not being too difficult to pull off. I received my order about an hour ago, it is hanging and full of knives, and I love it. We had one similar to this years ago and I only thought about not having it when I moved into a tiny apartment. The problem with the mounting system is that it's too easy for the endcaps to slip off of the screws. Instead of the screws going completely through the endcaps (or the bar itself, for that matter), the endcaps slide onto the screws. Basically this means that you have to mount one endcap to the wall, tighten it, slide the bar over the endcap, and then slide the remaining endcap both into the bar and over the other screw (meaning you can't tighten the second screw). Unless you get them exactly right, the bar has about 1/4 inch of play and slides back and forth, and because the endcaps are not particularly tight, this means that pushing one end can push the opposite endcap off the screw. I was tempted to drill holes through the bar and use some very long screws with heads that I could make flush with the surface. This was a little more work than I wanted today, though.And yes, the mounting hardware is inadequate. They provided the weirdest, most useless wall anchors I've ever seen. They're not tapered, so they can fall into the wall quite easily if your drilled hole is even slightly too large. Even after using my own screws and anchors, I was uncomfortable with the amount of movement, so I hot-glued the entire thing to the wall; that won't keep it from falling, but it did reduce the wiggling.
It holds knives perfectly, but Norpro should come up with a different mounting solution. I took off 2 stars for the poor mounting solution and hardware.
Zyliss Garlic Slicer
This is a nifty little tool for slicing garlic cloves quickly. It gives fairly uniform, and faster, results than I've been able to achieve using just a knife and my (carefully curled!) fingers. It's really a miniature mandoline with a little holder to keep your fingers clear of the blade, and a compartment underneath to hold the slices. I don't know if it could be used for anything else.It does have some drawbacks: the main issue I have found is that there is no way to adjust the thickness of the garlic slices it produces, and there are times when I'd like them to be thinner. Also, the compartment that holds the garlic cloves has a tendency to pop out of the main unit, if you're not careful.
Slicing garlic cloves with this tool is pretty quick; the most time-consuming part of using it is peeling the garlic cloves before placing them into the slicer. Smacking them with a knife blade to loosen the peel doesn't work very well, because if the cloves are squished they don't slice as well.
It's pretty easy to clean, as long as you're mindful of the sharp blade that is fixed in the main body of the tool. I recommend it for producing consistent slices of garlic.Reasonably good quality, and very effective. I'm dinging it one star because the top sliding element tends to pop out of place until I figured out the right way to hold it down while slicing while also NOT slicing my fingers. (Grab the slider with thumb and forefinger and push down on the longitudinal "shelves" while pushing it back and forth.This slicer is wonderful wish my regular mandoline was as safe as this little tool. It makes PERFECT garlic slices. Fry up garlic slices for a wonderful garnish tasty!!!! Cleans easily, one of my favorite kitchen tools.This tool works well and isn't difficult to clean. It slices the garlic thinly instead of shredding it into a million tiny pieces. Very good for the price.Both my wife and I are garlic lovers. For many years, we've used the 2-in-1 style garlic press/garlic slicers. The first one we bought lasted us several years, but finally needed replacement. The Martha Stewart branded press/slicer lasted for 3 uses before it splintered at the hinge. After searching in vain for a good replacement, we decided it was time for a separate garlic press and slicer. We bought the OXO which does a nice job on minced garlic. We waited a bit longer before deciding on the Zlyss slicer. It is like a mini mandoline. The cloves go in the hopper and a few back and forths and lovely slices are delivered into the plastic container below. It's a breeze to use, simple to clean, and a very welcome addition to our kitchen. Highly recommended!
Wusthof Classic Hollow-Ground Santoku
I love stir fries, Mexican, and spicy food in general, so after reading the Amazon reviews of this knife and the Wusthof Grand Prix Asian chef's knife (same knife, different handle) I was dying to get my hands on one. A local store that deals in Wusthof FINALLY got a hollow-edge Classic santoku in, and I tried it out, along with a Grand Prix chef's knife with the same handle.My conclusion while the Grand Prix handle DOES fit perfectly and firmly in the hand, the Classic handle encourages placing the thumb, extended, on top of the flat handle, producing a slight forward "roll" conducive to chopping and dicing. Thus, after much deliberation, I purchased the Classic santoku knife.
When I tried this knife at home, I was not disappointed; the santoku knife chops and dices quickly and cleanly, and cleaves serrano and Fresno peppers neatly in two. The knife is light and well-balanced, and while not quite as all-around versatile, is much better suited to chopping operations than the chef's knife. The hollow edge seems to help it to cut cleanly, and reduces but does not eliminate food sticking to the knife when chopped.
It's too late I can no longer pick a favorite knife. Right now it's a tie between my Wusthof Classic santoku knife and my Henckels four-star 6" chef's. This knife is definitely a keeper.I only own two real knives. One is my Tramontina paring knife, and the other is my Wusthof (Voo-stoff) Santoku. I've had both for almost four years now, and when I was browsing this section I realized, 'hey, I don't need anything from here, I've got it covered.' I once heard the most indispensable kitchen tools were a good chef's knife, a squeeze bottle, and a gas stove. Well, with the Santoku, you're already 1/3 of the way there, because you'll likely never need to buy another knife. At least I can't foresee having to buy another.
The thing is, when this knife's nice and sharpened up it seriously flies through anything you throw at it, though I don't suggest knife fighting with it. If you've ever found cutting poultry a pain in the ass, well this knife goes through uncooked chicken like you were cutting jell-o; it's a pretty amazing feeling. You simply draw the knife toward you, and through whatever you're cutting, and repeat.
In the hand, the santoku feels maybe a little dainty, compared to say a nine-inch chef's knife, which is like wielding a claymore. Perhaps that's what gives the santoku its almost surgical feel. It's light, it's awesomely balanced, and the shape of the blade allows you to accomplish multiple tasks, from slicing chicken breasts, to chopping rosemary, to dicing garlic.
This is a piece of Wusthof steel mind you, which means you might be passing it on to the kids, granted you follow some simple rules. First, don't ever put a knife like this in the dishwasher; it's bad for it. Two, don't use the blade to scrape together whatever you're chopping. I once saw Rachael Ray doing this on her 30-minute meals show, and it was the equivalent of fingernails on chalkboard to me. Instead, turn the knife over, and use the spine, this maintains your edge longer. Lastly, you need to buy a sharpener, because nothing is more useless, frustrating, or dangerous in cooking than using a dull knife. I use a simple Chef's Choice Manual Diamond Hone, which cost me a cool Jackson. It's a 2 step apparatus that's ugly as sin, but yields an edge that makes tomatoes as easy to cut as anything else. You should know however that while the hollowing of the blade, those oval shaped grind marks, was a brilliant idea; it still needs some tinkering because everything gets stuck to my blade. Oh well, this is an awesome piece of steel that's helped me cook many mediocre meals for outstanding people, and there's no reason not to expect the same.

One trend that has eventually made it's way to home chef's is that it's OK TO MIX KNIVES! German , French, Japanese STYLE all have they're champions and advantages for various cutting and chopping jobs. Despite what you see on TV shows, you'll actually find very few professionals who have all German or all Oriental style knives. And don't tell the kitchen snobs, but it's OK to mix BRANDS too! Buy what feels good, what costs right and how often you'll use it.The Wusthof Classic 7-inch Hollow Edge Santoku Knife combines several ideas that combined, make slicing vegetables into precise pieces. This looks nice, but also lets the food all cook at a quick and similar amount of time. Be aware that a Santoku knife is NOT MADE TO CHOP THROUGH BONES or frozen foods! Despite a small similarity, that is best left to a Cleaver.
The high "wall" of the knife blade makes for quick slicing and chopping. The identations or "kullens" reduce friction and suction, preventing food from sticking to the side of the blade.
The Wüsthof Classic 7-Inch Hollow Edge Santoku Knife is just slightly bowed to facilitate the rocking motion needed for what this knife is made to do.
Also realize that with the intermingling of knife designs one Santoku is not EXACTLY like another. Compare any knife design before purchase! And don't feel bad if you end up with a few from the Big Boys, and even a few left over from your grandmother!
I enjoy knives. I know alot about em. BUT especially enjoy USING knives. I do that mostly in the kitchen like everyone else.

I have been using the Wusthof Santoku Knife for several months. It has a good balance and feel. You are able to slice and dice like a Pro. The blade is thin but still ridgid enough to cut and slice straight, allowing very thin slices. It cuts meat very well and is very, very sharp. The edge is ground to a very narrow angle. Looks to be about 7 to 10 degrees. The shallow edge angle is what allows it to be so sharp. Due to the very thin edge of the blade, it should not be used for chooping or heavy duty cutting. The steel used is excellent and holds its edge forever. I touch it up ocassionaly with a ceramic sharpener. It only takes a couple of swipes with the cerramic. I think it is as sharp now as the day I received it. The dropped point is a great design. Over time, I've discovered buying the right quality items once is far better than buying sub-standard junk 4 or 5 times. Hence, my search for the right "general use" knife for my kitchen.I cook alot of stir fry sometimes 3 or 4 times a week. This means a fair amount of cutting, dicing and chopping of many different items from hard and soft vegetables to beef, pork or chicken. For many years, I struggled with cheap knives I had either received as a wedding present or bought from a large department store. In the end, I was sawing the food rather than cutting it; it was a chore rather than a pleasureable part of the cooking process. I decided to bite the bullet and buy the last knife I would need.
During my search, I discovered a few things you may find helpful:
understand what you do in the kitchen and only buy what you need. It's easy to get sucked into buying a full set of 8, 10 or 12 knives. You don't have to think about it and voila! everything's there. Granted, you will save money, but I contend you'll end up with knives you don't need. I strongly recommend buying knives separately as you discover you just can't do without that XYZ knife. Ex: I bought the 7" Classic Hollow Santoku and a small classic paring knife as a set. I found a I need a smaller utility knife for cutting sandwiches, etc... and purchased a Classic 5" knife. I can accomplish 99% of my cutting tasks with these 3 knives.
Your first knife should be either a Santoku or Chef's knife. These knives are the workhorses of the kitchen and will be used for a majority of your cutting tasks. Once purchased and used for awhile, you can better determine what will make your life easier and go after that.
"Handle" the knives. Unlike pot/pan handles, a knife will be in your hand for a fair amount of time, so it needs to be comfortable and well balanced. Believe me, these things matter. An unbalanced knife that doesn't feel right will tire you out and turn this part of cooking into a chore. I checked out 7" Santoku knives from Wusthof, Henckel and Global. The Wusthof had a more solid feel and felt better balanced in MY hand. All 3 manufacturers make excellent knives, but your connection with the knife is very personal and it must feel right to YOU.
Now, on to the Wusthof. First, it's very well balanced. Put your index finger against the bolster and under the handle; the knife will balance without effort. Second, it has a little more weight to it than the other 2 knives I've mentioned above. That's not to say it's heavy; rather it felt more solid to me. Third, the hollow design ("dimples" on the side of the blade) help prevent food from sticking. The hollow design won't totally prevent food from sticking to the blade (slices of "wet" vegetables like onions or tomatoes still stick), but it definitely helps.
Please, please, please take care of good knives. Never put them in the dishwasher. The detergent can damage them over time but, most importantly, they will bang around against other utensils and get knicked or damaged. Always wash and dry them immediately after use. Store them in a block or on a magnetic knife strip; never in a draw where they can, again, get banged around.
I sharpen my knives about once a month using a sharpening stone. There's tons of info on the net about how to do this and it is a daunting task at first. My advice is to take a cheaper knife and practice with the stone. Once you get comfortable, try it with your new knife. A sharp knife should cut a piece of paper, holding the paper in one hand and slicing from the top.

I have knives from the Henckels Pro-S, Sabatier Grand Chef, Wusthof Classic, and Shun lines. I was curious to try the new Wusthof Ikon line, and I have to say, I'm hooked. There is a substantial premium over the regular Classic line of knives, but I'd have to say it's worth it.Aesthetically, the new design is more pleasing, and has modern, flowing lines. The classic Wusthof red sticker is formed into the blade itself, so no more of the sticker coming off during washing! Also, the tang extends all the way to the bottom of the handle, ending in a sleek metal cap. Lastly, the bolster is much thinner, making the knife easier to sharpen.
Out of the box, my Ikon was as sharp as my Shun Nakiri. A few swipes on my steel made it even more so. After an hour of cutting, I greatly appreciated the new ergonomically designed handle. It really makes prepping much more comfortable. The overall balance is skewed slightly towards the handle, but not noticeably so.
In conclusiona great update on the Classic line, with functional improvements. This is now the first knife I reach for from my block.This knife is ridiculously nice. It has seen use 4x per week, 30 minutes at a time on average, for 6 months now, and I've still not had to sharpen it. A minute or so of swiping on the honing steel keeps the edge super sharp. I've not had experience with other high end knives, so upgrading to this bad boy was truly a breath of fresh air. Absolutely with knives, you have to pay for the best.
That said, I happened to hear W&S had the Ikon Creme line on sale and this knife was a steal at 59 bucks!!!! With the matching 3 1/2 inch paring and the honing steel, I was out the door with two high end workhorse knives and a steel for about 110 dollars.
I have used the Henckels International line and Wusthof's Grand Prix and Classic lines, and the Classic Ikon line is the best of the best in German knives.

I'm a cook and this is definitely my favorite knife. The only one I really use at work outside of the occasional boning knife job. The handle is very comfortable and the broad curve of the blade combined with the nice weight of the handle makes the cutting motion very fluid and easy on your wrist. And if you cook a lot, that's what this fine knife is. The first things I noticed were the weight and the balance. This knife is heavier than knives of the same type and size from other manufactures. It is also very well balanced. The next thing I noticed was how well it fit into my hand; the profile of the handle is oval instead of squared off. This knife comes from the manufacturer very sharp, as you'd expect, but it is very easy to maintain the edge unlike previous knives we've owned.Bottom line is if you cook once a week or less, this knife is really not worth the cost, but if you cook a lot and like to cook, this is a great investment.I am a chef with VERY large hands. I always have problems with smaller knives. This 10-inch is great. There is enough blade depth and length so that I can cut with confidence. The balance is perfect, the blade is extremely sharp and easy to maintain, the tang and bolts are solid, and it is very, very durable. I cannot recommend this knife enough.

I've had this cutting board for a few months now and am totally pleased with it. It is the perfect size for your counter to cut up vegetables, fruits or meats. It does not slip when in use and is dishwasher safe. It is durable and not flimsy at all. It is slightly heavy due to the thickness, but shouldn't be bothersome to the average user. I highly recommend using this if you are looking for an everyday cutting board.I'm absolutely thrilled with this cutting board. It's completely flat on one side and has a small lip on the other (for those juicier cuts of meat). It cleans up beautifully, stays put on my counter top, resists cuts, and stores nicely. This product did not rest as snugly on the counter surface as I was hoping it would. It did seem to slide a little, although it was fairly steady when I used it to cut vegetables. These are both attractive and functional. Since they lack any ornamentation they will match just about any flatware, and are perfectly sized for serving most meats and vegetables.I love the versatility because you have not only a regular serving spoon, but a slotted one as well. And the fork is sized to spear even the thinnest cuts of meat like milenesa, as well as thick cut chops and everything in between.
Another thing I love is the way these utensils were designed to be both lightweight and strong. The strength comes from the way the back side of the handles are formed, which is slightly concave. This makes all of the difference between cheap serving utensils that will actually bend, and solid ones like these that may be light, but are anything but cheap. Plus they are not going to bend unless you put some effort into it.
While the instructions claim these are dishwasher safe, they also had a caveat regarding using lemon detergent which will cause corrosion. Frankly I did not know that, but have taken that warning to heart and have quit using lemon dishwasher detergent because it applies to all stainless steel and not just this product.
These are high quality utensils that are for everyday use, and if properly cared for should last a long time. In fact, they come with a 25 year limited warranty, which says more about the quality than anything I can say.

the knives were awesome in the beginning. unfortunately after a while (about 2-3 months) it seems to have dulled. the chopping board broke too really fast (after a month). it was not a solid piece and i guess the glue lost its hold. i should have returned it but my husband accidentally threw it away. i hate returning stuff as i use it everyday but i am nearing returning the dulling knives :(I still love my Miracle Blade knives after many years. However, be careful of the fileting knife; the tip of mine broke within the first few months so it doesn't work as well anymore. this is a PROPER carving set. By that i simply mean it is not a fork and 8-inch chef's knife, it is a fork and carving/slicing knife. There's nothing wrong with a slicing knife, but it just isn't an 'all purpose' knife, it's 'purpose designed.'
