Global G-11 Yanagi Sashimi Knife, 10-Inch
I bought this knife only because I had a gift card and have a discount at a certain culinary-related store for being in the industry. Needless to say, it's a rather good yanagi, but just rather good. It's definitely overpriced at $108+ since the steel (56-58rc), while still being harder than German (52-56rc) knives, is still softer than some other stainless yanagi (60rc) at the same price. Ok, you can get carbon steel, but some of us don't want to maintain one. It's even harder to maintain one when you're a cook whose job is not just to cut fish, but a variety of things all day. Another thing I'll mark this knife down for is that it doesn't have a continuous hollow ground back like most yanagi, but you can just wet the blade with a damp cloth to keep fish from sticking.
DO NOT USE A STEEL ON THIS KNIFE OR ANY SINGLE BEVEL KNIVES. This knife should only be sharpened on a high grit waterstone (6000+) and do not sharpen it only on one side as that'll weaken the edge. Even the box says sharpening it at 70/30, but 80/20 should be fine so long as you're only cutting fish.
If I had to pay full price for this knife, I'll have to give it 3/5 stars because although it's a softer steel and doesn't have a hollow ground back, it's stainless, requires extremely low maintenance for a yanagi, and it's more sanitary than an unsealed Japanese wood handle.I have 5 slicers: 3 double edge slicers (Mac, Shun, Henckels) and 2 single edge (this one and a cheapy Kai Wasabi). This one is by far the best knife for slicing seafood. It is well balanced and has the sharpest blade. It has good weight that along with it's edge makes slicing the densest seafood (like Conch) easy. Many reviewers have commented on the handle's tendency to be slippery. I totally disagree. Traditional Japanese knives are designed to be pulled, not pushed. The handle is designed to be anchored by wrapping the index finger around the top of the handle. This is secure even with oily hands as long as you pull through the cut. You must use the knife the way it was designed, it is not a western styled knife. Also, this knife is one of the few Yanagi that doesn't have the traditional Japanese handle. I dislike traditional Japanese handles because they tend to unbalance the knife and make it blade heavy. To me this knife is the best since it offers single edge sharpness and a full tang-like handle. And it is very affordable compared to other Japanese Yanagi's. Can't recommend it more.

brought this knife with my friend but he didn't like it. it's heavy and not sharp. the handle is all metal so it's not great for gripping. This knife has met my needs very well. The blade holds a very good edge but on a sad note. The handle is a little short for those of us with larger hands. Since it has a short handle it forces the user to chock up on the blade. This can be a little dangerous when the hand gets wet from fish oils.-JAXFarberware 3-Piece Poly Cutting Board Set
There comes a time in every cook's life that they realize that it would be easier to have multiple cutting boards instead of taking the time to clean and re-clean a single board multiple times just to make one meal. This is a nice little collection. They all fit in the dishwasher, and even the smallest isn't so small that it has no utility. The bundle also was priced less than I found similar sized boards for in local stores.
They may not last me the rest of my life, but they are sturdy enough that I've already got more use than I paid for, and they've still got plenty of use left in them.
You're not going to get your picture in Better Homes and Kitchens magazine for having these in your kitchen. They make no fashion statement at all. But they do have plenty of utility, and isn't that what you're interested in when you need to chop, slice or dice something? This is a good, very useful type of cutting board. The sizes provided are handy. However, in the set I received, the largest board was substantially defective: the color is irregular in places, and the thickness in inconsistent. The board is thicker near the edges than it is in the middle, which is a serious flaw since the knife needs to contact the board throughout the cut.
I've owned several cutting boards, and never had one with a defect. It's an extremely simple product, and almost all types are flawless. To receive one with two separate, easily noticeable flaws is very disappointing. I cannot recommend this product.

I bought two sets of these. They're great for smashing wet things like handmade paper and pasted items. But both of the largest boards were warped--tippy on one side and stable but not flush with the table on the other. Still, for the money I'm very happy with the small boards which *are* perfectly flat.Read Best Reviews of Farberware 3-Piece Poly Cutting Board Set Here
I agree with some earlier reviews: These boards have uneven thicknesses, and the cutting surface is not flat. This means the boards can wobble on the countertop. Farberware may be inexpensive, but it's no bargain. Spend the extra dollars on a KitchenAid cutting board, which is thick, perfectly flat, and has non-skid rubber grips. If you're on a budget, Ikea cutting boards are even cheaper than Farberware but still better.Want Farberware 3-Piece Poly Cutting Board Set Discount?
Whenever I see the name "Farberware", I know I am assured of high quality cooking utensils. I was not disappointed with this 3-piece "Poly Cutting Board Set". The picture here does not do this product justice. They are not transparent, as they appear to be here. They are solid and sturdy,a good weight, make food prep and clean up easy, and are a great price to boot. The three sizes (14-1/4x10-3/4,10x8, and 7x9-1/4)are just about perfect for anything you may be preparing(I might have like the largest just a little bigger for say, cutting up a whole chicken). Each has a convienet handle, making it easy to move around or even hang up if you choose. The paddle shaped board has a channel around it for catching juices that usually flow off the board. I used that one to cut a pineapple up recently and had much less of a sticky mess to clean up. It would have been great if the larger board had these channels too, for catching the juice from meats before they hit the counter.
These boards can double for serving fruits and cheese and are nice for slicing bread or bagels as well. They are a good quality with a nice textured surface, that,so far, have not shown any wear from the knives. They are easily washed, dried and stored away. Another reviewer mentioned that their's was not flat, mine are, and I would suggest if you happen to recieve a set that is not flat, it should be returned for a new one.
The boards are treated to protect them from odor and stain causing bacteria, but must be throughly washed after food preparation.
A good buy for your kitchen, making life just a little simpler...Now If I can just get someone else to actually do the cooking......
thanks and enjoy.....Laurie

5 stars.I've owned several sets of these in several houses. They mount easily to drywall and with a little care to tiled surfaces, just ensure you use the correct bits (see uploaded picture). When tightening the screws, be aware that the plastic that stops the screw from going in any further may break very easily, which to be fair only happened on one hole in all the units I've owned. They are attractive and hold the knives well including my heavy meat cleaver. Make sure the knives are dry before mounting them. This is so much better than losing the edge to a wooden block or by being knocked around in a drawer.

Fits perfect in our kitchen.Mrs. Anderson's Baking Chocolate Chipper
I buy the big blocks (5 kg) of Callebaut dark chocolate for baking. Until buying this great little tool, I used a 10" chef's knife to divide the block and chop the chocolate as necessary. For the unskilled or inexperienced, this can be dangerous and a little scary, and while it gets the job done, it feels clumsy and is none too great for the knife, either. Combined with a rubber mallet or a plastic-faced hammer, this is the right tool for this particular job. Great price for it, too.NOTE: When using on the thick blocks, the mallet is not optional; the chipper doesn't work without it.I love to bake and make candy with bulk chocolate, but the one aspect of the process that I dread is cutting up the large chunks of chocolate. It is difficult to chop through the hard chocolate with a chefs knife. I find the job unpredictable and somewhat dangerous. This sturdy tool has resolved the issue.
I am a home cook, not a professional and I rarely have chunks of chocolate that weigh more than a couple of pounds. This tool permits chipping of the chocolate for melting in a manageable manner. I consider this method far safer than using the chef's knife. The chocolate flies around less, and to help capture the bits that leave the cutting board, I put a large piece of wax paper, or parchment paper under the cutting board.
The tool does not produce perfectly consistently sized pieces, like those bags of pre-made chocolate chunks for cookies, but for breaking down bulk chocolate to prepare for melting, this tool does its job.

This is a well made product that makes life much easier for bakers. It is perfect for chopping bulk chocolate and minimizes the time it would take if you were chopping chocolate with a knife. It is very sturdy and well-built.Read Best Reviews of Mrs. Anderson's Baking Chocolate Chipper Here
Let me start with a brief explanation of my situation with this chipper: I am a home chef/confectioner that makes candy and chocolates on a fairly regular basis, and I needed something better than either store-bought chocolate chips (no cocoa butter to speak of) or $15/6 oz locally bought quality bars (only one place near me carries anything like Valrhona, Callebaut, etc and they are pricey). So I purchased a bulk bar online. This thing is the only feasible way I've thought up for dealing with the mass of bulk chocolate I purchased. It does take significantly more work to make fine chunks, but it is doable. Moreover, I don't think there is any way I could have dealt with the 12lb bar I had.
Here's my current 'chunking' flow.
-Place bar in a large rubbermaid container on a solid surface. You generate a lot of 'dust' when you do this, and it's a shame to waste good chocolate. Also it's a real pain to clean up otherwise.
-Take a hammer, place chipper near the edge, start knocking off big chunks. I usually end up with fragments that span the whole length of the chunk (~4-6 inches) by 1-2", by .5-1".
-Break these up into roughly 1"x.5"x.5" chunks. That's about as small as I can get with this thing (which for a few minutes of labor and a starting piece 2"x6"x12" isn't bad!)
-Pour the resulting chunks and dust into a HEAVY duty ziplock. double bag it.
-Place something thick and soft (piece of leather, silicon potholder, etc) over the bag, and smash it a bit.
Now, I wouldn't really recommend this to make chunks for cookies, etc. The resultant bits are so variable that it'd be hard to get anything like consistency. If you want that buy grocery store bars and hammer them because that isn't what this thing is for. This is for taking large, heavy bars of bulk chocolate and breaking it down into manageable pieces you can melt easily. And not only does it do that very well, but I can't imagine doing it without this (or something nearly identical).Though the metalwork will never appear in a museum of modern art, this chipper is a solid, sturdy tool that works perfectly. I've been looking for a chipper for some time, and for the price, this tool is a GREAT deal. Recommended.
A Di Alessi "Knifeforkspoon" 75-Piece Set, Includes Twelve Table Knives Monoblock and Twelve Desser
I just bought a set of mirror finish knifeforkspoon flatware, designed by Jasper Morrison for Italian housewares manufacturer Alessi, and I'm really glad I bought the set with the monobloc knives. Monobloc knives are less expensive in general because they're made of a single piece of stainless steel, as opposed to knives with thicker handles that are made separately, then into which a separate blade is set. This is done for two reasons: presumably nicer feel in the hand, and in some cases, a better, sharper, blade is attached separately. The knifeforkspoon monobloc knife looks better and feels better in your hand. It's more of a piece with the other forks and spoons in the line. I bought one placesetting earlier to see if I liked it, and I did, except for the thick regular knife handle that just never balanced in my right hand with whichever piece was in my left.
A single regular knife in this series costs $20. The monobloc costs $11. In a set this size, the difference in cost is around $300.
Jasper Morrison designed this as a nice everyday set of flatware that you can also use in a more elegant setting. I use Metlox Colorstax as my everyday dishes, and have a set of Thomas O'Brien's Tiago Blue, a glossy navy porcelain with double concentric platinum rings. knifeforkspoon goes with each set of dinnerware very nicely. Next I'm going to get some of Ellen Chilewich's placemats and napkins.
This would make a terrific present for the modern lover in your life.

This was a replacement for a knife I lost, so I knew what I wanted ahead of time. Already owning two Henckels Twin Pro-S 5-inch serrated knives, I was curious how this one compared. It was deeply discounted at a local box store, so I bought one. It is slightly different than the one pictured on Amazon, as mine has an ergonomic handle, but is still called Premio 5-inch serrated. One big difference between the two, and it's an important one--the Premio is made in China (using German stainless steel) and the Twin Pro S is precision forged, ice hardened and made in Germany. Both have heft and cut through vegetables (particularly tomatoes) with ease. After that, the Twin Pro S leaves the Premio in the dust. It does a much better job cutting through tougher foods, particularly meat. It's true the Twin Pro S costs much more, but they can frequently be found on Ebay and other sites at very good prices. The Premio still gets put to use and does a good job, but only on foods I know it can handle. A five-inch serrated knife is indispensable in the kitchen--I feel privileged to now own three!Want J.A. This is an invaluable tool. I already had two for my kitchen & needed one for our RV. It is wider than a knife so sandwich dressings don't fall off before you cn get it on your bread. When I first saw this item, it made me wonder.... Does bamboo grow in Germany? I am not sure if it does?? I can say that this Henckels bamboo knife block is of excellent quality, good design, well-made, and has good features. Additionally, since it is made of bamboo, it has a smaller carbon footprint, or sustainability. These are somewhat obtuse words to indicate that bamboo, in comparison to traditional wood knife block materials, grows quicker, and can be harvested with less environmental impact than our diminishing world supplies of wood, since bamboo is a grass, not a tree. I am quite satisfied with the product. This is expensive and doesn't have slots for steak knives. Rada Cheese Knife Black Handle Dishwasher Safe W-239
This cheese slicer does its job well. I have used it on hard and soft cheeses and it cuts through them with ease. I was a little nervous because the blade looked different compared to other cheese cutters but I trusted Rada and was not disappointed. It is a decent sized knife and fairly easy to clean. I am not sure what the two prongs at the tip of the knife are for but I have only used the edge. You can slice cheese fairly thin but not super thin.I have always been a big fan of Rada cutlery. I find that they are comparable with the best brands and are a lot cheaper. There are two versions, a black handle and an aluminum handle. I always go with the black handle because it is dishwasher safe. Also the aluminum handles tend to darken over time anyways.Purchased for a friend, because I love mine ! Farberware Classic 17-Piece Cookware Set
I had put these on my wish list as a future splurge and was surprised and pleased when my hubbie bought them for me for my birthday last month! (LOVE that other folks can see my wish list!) I have owned Farberware before, but, only one or two pans...after twenty years or so, a handle had loosened, a pan lid was missing, etc. but they were still going strong! I don't think you can get a better quality of cookware at this price! (I had looked at other brands of aluminum clad stainless steel cookware and found they were HUNDREDS of dollars!) I have a ceramic cooktop and have found that many of the pots and pans I've tried have warped immediately and were instantly useless on the ceramic top (where things have to be perfectly flat to work). Not so with these pots and pans! They stay flat and heat up quickly. This set has a nice variety of sizes (my only complaint is that it doesn't contain a 6 quart stock pot). The lids fit well and the pots and pans have wonderful rings on the handles that allow hanging on any pot rack! The skillets are small, but, really good (the non-stick surface is thick and the pans heat up well and clean up easily). The set also came with three stainless bowls with plastic covers (perfect for chilling cookie dough), also with rings for hanging. I am pleasantly surprised as well by the baking pan. I usually use glass, but, my lemon bars baked up very nicely in this pan. The cookie sheet, though extremely small, is also impressive. It doesn't warp under high heat and I have used it for making garlic toast and as a pan under pies and breads with no problem. In fact, I plan to put Farberware cookie sheets on my wish list next! If you a looking to replace pots and pans, or, want to give someone you love a much appreciated gift that will last for years and years, I recommend this wonderful set!Seems to be a good product but we do have a older set and the new set is not as well made as the older set. The metal is thinner , the lids are cheaply made and the handles are just plain plastic. Time will tell if they will hold up or not. The old set needs a couple of handles replaced and I was informed by Farberware that there no longer are handles available for the old set and when I inquired about handles for the new set I was told there are not any replacement handles available. Am already disappointed as I know the handles on the new set will not hold up well.Buy Farberware Classic 17-Piece Cookware Set Now

Just like Grandma used to have!Yes these pots and pans have been slightly updated from their older version, but they still function and clean up just as well. I purchased these because my Grandmother had a set of them my whole life and they were always dependable, and seemingly indestructible. I say indestructible because I have managed to destroy many non stick pots: scratching the coat off and melting the coat of non stick yuckynessand that literally stinks horribly and ruins the meal and the pot! The Farberware pots and pans are heavy duty, stainless steel, and best of allthere's no non stick coating on the pots to ruin if you leave your beans unattended (in my case cleaning house) with the fire up a tad too high. The lids are not glass, they are also stainless steel. So no dropping lids and stressing the glass which in turn eventually break. These stainless steel lids sit nicely on the pots, the bell shape keeps the moisture in the pot and when the lid is removed the bell shape actually helps with not dripping the condensation on the lid all over the stove.
This Farberware Classic Stainless Steel set is perfect for any cook of any age. For young cooks who are learning, for cooks who try to fold the laundry while the beans have 2 minutes left, for cooks who are a little clumsy and drop their kitchenware, and even the older much more experienced cooks who just want a good high quality classic cookware set. Regardless of the age or expertise, this set is hands down the best that is out there for anyone! And I must addI searched everywhere including macy's, sears, walmart, target, and tons of places online. This was the only set I ever saw that was a great brand, that had stainless steel lids, and sturdy design. After moving out on my own I have ruined 3 sets of nonstick pots. I laugh now because now that I have this set, it will never happen again. The Farberware Classic Stainless Steel 17-Piece Cookware Set is the best cookware set on the market today!

Wusthof Gourmet 5-Piece Essential Knife Set
I had mistakenly assumed that these were like my Classic Wusthof knives, but they are not even close. The blades are thin and I don't think forged (they are 'laser cut' [??]) and the tang does not run the full width of the plasticky handles. They are very light not that good heavy-but-balanced-feel of the Classic series. They ARE sharp, however! My wife has already cut herself twice a rare occasion. So, look closely at the picture, you can see that there is no steel bolster (part of the blade on the Classic as wide as the bottom of the handle) on these knives. Buyer beware, had I known what I was getting I wouldn't have bought these but instead more of the forged Classic or LamsonSharp lines (but the price was GOOD on these; what's that about the Poor Man Paying Twice?)...I've purchased these knives just over a year ago. The "Wusthof" labels, were just that, paper labels, and peeled off after a few weeks. The handles on 3 of them are now cracked. The blades are and were always thin and fragile, hence have a few knicks on them. The best and sturdiest tool are the shears, hence 2 stars. Basically, you get what you pay for these, don't expect anything more. I wouldn't spend the $59.99 on these if I had to do it over again.Buy Wusthof Gourmet 5-Piece Essential Knife Set Now

not so good quality, not an expert but I don't recommend it.The knives are ok, but the scissor is horrible. The the other German brand, so much better. With these multipack deals, you probably get ok stuff with bad stuff to move inventory.Mac Knife Damascus Chef's Knife
I can't believe no one has reviewed about this knife. Its scary sharp outta the box, but it's hard steel will take and hold a steeper edge with ease, you just have to be sure to take care of your knives properly. But i don't honestly see anyone in their right mind spending this much on a knife and mistreating it. Anywho, the knife is a very beautiful, well made tool. You can spend hours just staring at it. The Damascus look is great, and does a very good job at hiding some scratches (in case u get is scratched). The balance is spot on, and the over sized handle is the best i've seen and felt, really. The pakawood is really beautiful. It's a knife with its own personality that (i bet) will last a life time. If it's in ur budget, buy it, its a no brainer. I own wusthof and global knives, the handling and looks of this Mac is head and shoulders above 'em. I still love my globals and wusthofs, don't get me wrong, but this is knife is in another league. And just a little side note, i have contacted Mac USA a few times (email and phone) to get their advice on a few things and each time i've gotten fast and great response. So its good to know that ur product its well backed up. As far as Amazon goes, the transaction was fast and flawless as always, so nothing new to brag about there.Edgeware 50217 Diamond Pro Pull-Thru Knife and Scissor Sharpener
I bought this product for one reason: I had several pair of scissors that were dull and needed sharpening. I was tired of buying a new pair of scissors every time the original pair dulled to the point of non-usability. This contraption is not hard to use, and the price is low, but what I did not know is that the instructions would be minimal and as a result, though my blades were sharpened, they were also chipped and damaged on the blade toward the, ahem, fulcrum of the instrument. Now I am certain that with time and practice I will figure out how to use this tool without causing damage to my scissors, but out of the box it is less than perfect unless you already know what you are doing. And that is why it only got three stars. This is a must have for those people who don't want to hone their knives. It is easy to use and puts a fine edge on all types of knives, from paring to cleavers. I am the primary cook in our family and am very hard on the knives, but with this sharpener I can keep my knives very sharp with minimal effort. I now only infrequently use my sharpening steels.
