Wusthof 2036 Bamboo Cutting Board

Wusthof 2036 Bamboo Cutting BoardI received this Wuestof cutting board as a gift, along with some Wuesthof knives and kitchen shears. (if you would like to read my reviews for these items, click on "see all my reviews".) It's a good combo; I only had plastic cutting boards, and the wooden ones better for your knives. Plastic ones (and don't get the really hard ones)are useful for cutting meat, and putting into the dishwasher; but the wood looks nicer. Also,it is made from bamboo, a renewable resource, and not from petrochemicals.

This 8X12 cutting board is just right size for slicing, dicing and chopping up a few veggies. The Wuesthof 4.5 inch "multi-prep cook's knife" works very well for this. The Wuesthof logo is imprinted on the front side, but I don't see "Emeril" on it anywhere. The back side of the board is a cutting board, too, but it also has four rubber "feet" which add stability when used right-side-up. Groves on either side provide easy hand-holds. Flip it right-side up, pair it with a cheese knife, and you're good to go for serving cheese.

Good price/value. Treat it well--don't use the dishwasher or serrated knives, condition it with mineral oil from time to time. Highly recommend.

I have a set of bamboo cutting boards that are very thick and heavy. I like to think of these as quality items. After many years of use it still holds well but is feeling quite heavy these days.

With the mini Wusthof bamboo cutting board I feel this weight being lifted. I cannot use it for heavy tasks, such as slicing meaty products, but it is great for chopping small items like vegetables, fruits, and dicing garlic, for instance.

I enjoy this tool very much. It is light, easy to clean, and dries quickly enough for my next cutting task.

I received this cutting board along with a knife I had purchased and find it to be fairly useful. This isn't my primary cutting board and I wouldn't intend on using it as such, but it does come in handy. It's a good size for small cutting tasks. The bamboo makes it a somewhat attractive board, but also means added upkeep. An occasional light sanding and oiling will keep the board from fading under the wear of knife scratches and cuts. The grooves cut out on the sides of the board provide great handles. Price is fair for a bamboo cutting board. If you are looking for a deal, consider purchasing as a bonus with other Wusthof products.

Pros:

> Convenient size.

> Grooves on the ends provide good handles.

> Rubber feet provide stability and slip resistance.

> Attractive.

> Fair price considering that it's bamboo and carries the Wusthof name.

Cons:

> Must be hand washed.

> Fades unless oiled. Light sanding helps remove scratches.

I'm not sure how this board got this many positive reviews. I must've gotten a lemon. I know it's bamboo and constructed of four separate bamboo pieces but I thought this cutting board would last longer. I have uploaded a picture of the split board. I used it on a regular basis to do light cutting for vegetables. I'm a bachelor and I don't cook much, but I guess I was too much for this cutting board. I really wish I could get a refund.

And by abuse, I don't just mean heavy use, I mean *abuse*. I've had this cutting board for about three years. Since I cook for one mostly, the small size means it's my go-to cutting board. A typical day for this board means slicing a roll for breakfast, back out again at lunch for sandwich prep, slicing fruit for my smoothies for snack, then meat and/or veggie slicing board for dinner. It has pinch hit as a serving tray or cheese plate when I've run out of platters for parties. Gets unceremoniously thrown in the dishwasher at the end of most days.

Recently though, after all it's done for me, I have been using it to prep the raw food diet for my cat.

I have a Mundial heavy cleaver that weighs 1.3lbs and it can literally hack through a small chicken in one blow. I had been using other boards thick wooden ones mostly but they were starting to get really deep gouges in them. I even worried about the cat getting a splinter in his meal because the gouges were SO deep. Germs were a problem too since the deeper the gouge the less chance of getting it clean. These things really started to concern me and I needed a solution. Since the Wusthof is my cheapest board I figured I would give it a try and in case it broke I would not be at much of a loss.

Much to my surprise this little board totally solved the problem!

I am rough chopping chicken legs or thighs for the most part. Giving the Wusthoff a test run with a bone in chicken thigh, with a few quick whacks I was done and examined the board. Even though it's been in use for three years the surface still looks pretty new so I would easily see any new gouges but there were NONE! No sign of splitting or separating from the force/weight of the cleaver. The best part is that I can run it through the dishwasher to sanitize it after using with raw meat. I've been using it now like this for about two weeks and still no signs of wear. Woohoo!!!

I know it's not the best to put these types of cutting boards in the dishwasher but for my purposes this is a good and cheap solution for my needs. If at some point this abuse adds up to my needing to replace the board I feel a little better that bamboo is renewable whereas my more expensive blocks and boards are not and those were getting seriously damaged at a cost both "green" and dollar-wise that I do not want to consider replacing.

I'm not sure how long this little board will hold out with this type of usage but I'll update this review if needed.

Very pleased with this purchase and highly recommended!!!

Oneida Azalea 45-Piece Set, Service for 8

Oneida Azalea 45-Piece Set, Service for 8This is a very inexpensive set of silverware. I was surprised at how sturdy and heavy the pieces were for something at this price level. The teaspoons and tablespoons are a little larger than what we have been used to but that isn't a problem. I would not hesitate to buy this brand again.

If I could I would give this a higher rating. I just unpacked the box and was expecting flatware too heavy to lift.

That is not the case. These might seem heavy if you are accustomed to paper thin flatware. In fact they are sturdy and have a quality size. The weight is suprisingly light compared to the size. They feel good in the hand and the balance is proper. They are well made, with a beautiful finish and I would not hesitate to use them with fine china for a formal occasion. I don't expect these will bend or easily damage. These will set a lovely table the bowls of the spoons are nicely shaped.

HIGH QUALITY APPEARANCE...YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED! I purchased two sets for a service of 16...so glad I did. Love em!

Excellent quality, better than I had expected, a little heavier than I expected and forks are nice and sharp. I really like that. If you are boiling potatoes you can easily stick a fork in the potatoe to see if they are done.

Amazon free shipping helped keep the cost down.

Thank You,

For me, this flatware is exactly what I wanted. Appealing design, solid quality and well-made. As another reviewer alluded, probably a little larger than your current set, but that is fine by me.

Pieces are sturdy and strong, and feel like they should have cost more. No more bent prongs on the forks or dull knives. With their polished silver finish, the utensils looked classy and really dressed up the Thanksgiving table.

Worth the price and a good value.

These little guys are definitely going back to Amazon. Got them a week ago. While they look nice, there is that feel of cheapness to them. Besides, there are black rusty spots between the prongs of the forks that wouldn't come off.

I'd say this is a decent looking set that's okay bordering with good. But we ended up getting a different, sleeker set at Bed, Bath and Beyond.

Victorinox Ceramic Chef Knife, 6-Inch

Victorinox Ceramic Chef Knife, 6-InchCustomer review from the Amazon Vine Program The most used knife in my kitchen is a smaller santoku knife. So trying this out as a substitute for that knife made good sense. My santoku is a steel knife, sharpened regularly, and I use it on vegetables and meat both, cleaning it when I switch cutting one to the other.

Using this one the same way I used my other knife just wasn't an option. I tried. I really did. But the fineness of the blade had me shaving carrots, cutting paper thin slices of onions, seeing how many slices I could get out of one crimini mushroom. The manual said that it could be rinsed between cutting things, that the blade wasn't very porous and would rinse clean enough to go from one thing to another without flavor or scent transfer. Absolutely true. I rinsed it, and the onion scent came right off of it.

Then I got to the steaks I was making for dinner. My plan was to cut them into decent portion sizes. Same thing I'd do with my santoku. By then I was just having too much fun cutting. I cut sirloins into strips across the grain, raw and not partially frozen, and it cut so nicely that I wound up yelling for my husband to come see. He was impressed with how well it cut.

The handle is easy to hold, and it weighs very little. The sharpness of the blade rather than the weight does the cutting.

Now, about ceramic knives, I've wanted one for ages, but I wasn't sure. So this was my first ceramic kitchen knife. I'm probably going to replace most of my knives now. They do need to be hand washed. I use hot water, a bit of detergent and a soft dishcloth that I crocheted and they come very clean. The other thing about them is that they seem a lot more fragile than they are. You can literally see the logo through the blade when you hold it up to the light. I chopped and sliced and treated it the same as I treat my steel knives. It held up just fine. They are also very light. The white blade and black handle combined with the complete lack of heft made me think of it as being toy-like straight out of the box. Using it ended that perception though. It's a fine kitchen tool. One that I'm just thrilled to have in my kitchen.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program Have had a set of Henckels Four Star for years and am still very satisfied---so why a ceramic knife? I found an interesting article about knives that discussed ceramic. Here is what I found: Ceramic holds its edge at least 10 times longer than high-carbon steel, it has a much lighter weight, almost a non-stick surface, it is much harder than steel (close to a diamond), hygienic, and it is so easy to clean---and most important I love trying new things in the kitchen! I also found that you should not expect ceramic to replace your steel knives, but rather, compliment them. Like most good things ceramic has its down side. Hand washing is preferred over the dishwasher, should not be thrown in the knife drawer with other utensils, should only be used for up and down cutting on fruits, veggies and boneless meat, don't try prying a lid off with ceramic-----why you may ask. Ceramic is brittle even though it is strong, it can chip or break. Now for the good stuff! I just don't enjoy sharpening knives, when they fail to cut through hot butter I will do what is required. So the sharpness of this blade lasts 10 times longer than steel? I'll just believe the description, as mine is nowhere near needing the blade honed, I have read the same thing on several other ceramic reviews and have no reason to doubt their findings. I cleans up just with the wipe of the dish cloth, the blade is hygienic because of the hardness.

Have cut carrots, potatoes, sliced bell peppers, ripe tomatoes and the most impressive was a loaf of rather soft french bread. Did an exceptional job on all the ingredients for a wonderful stew. Fruit salad is another great use for this blade, the apples, pears, oranges etc. did a terrific job.

I do feel that if you love to cook and enjoy good knives you probably would find this knife as one of your favorites and a great addition to your knife collection. I use a knife block. The sheath would probably be a good investment to protect it, if you don't have a block. This knife has become a favorite in our house.

Hope your experience will be as positive as ours if you choose to buy this knife.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program I've been using this knife for two weeks now, and it's the first ceramic knife I've owned. My first impressions have persisted throughout that time: it feels very light, and it's very sharp.

I am a little nervous still about the longevity of the edge. I've reached for my kitchen steel more than once, and then sadly put it down unused after I realized that it's not appropriate for this knife. Straight out of the package, this knife had that just-steeled edge that can slice through a tomato skin like it's not even there. Within a week though, even with great care, I found that the knife lost a little of that keen edge. It's still quite sharp, but not perfect anymore. Otherwise the edge seems stable now and it will be interesting to see how long until it actually needs sharpening, and how difficult or expensive that will be.

The logo on the blade wore off after the third use; I'd rather they didn't put one on at all.

But overall, I'm very happy with this product. The light weight makes it comfortable to use, and it handles all normal kitchen slicing duties with ease.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program This is not my first ceramic knife, so I can tell you after six years of use, I have broken the very tip off my old one. With constant use, I have sharpened it only five times. I forget now just how I or somebody broke off that 1/8 inch but it bothers me every time I look at it. Probably, this mishap has prevented me from doing any more damage, even though I use it much more often than its steel counterpart. So know these knives, while harder than steel, are brittle. Do not chop with any striking force. You can chop all day long with a rocking action normal to a chef's knife. No boning. And take care not to let it fall on the floor. And even I am not lazy enough to put this easy to clean knife in the washer, but you could if it did not bang against anything else to nick the blade. That is it. I am done with the bad stuff.

Victorinox has long made one of the best steel blades in the world. I have a dozen in my arsenal, from the giant fourteen inch lobster knife that made Crocodile Dundee skee-daddle, to my flexible fish fillet rapier. Unlike their French and German cousins, they sharpen more easily. For ceramic knives, use a diamond surface only. I have a 6000 grit block and an F. Dick oval diamond wand, rather like the traditional sharpening steel. By the way, you will no longer need a sharpening steel for this knife. The teeth do not bend over as do steel ones, hence their need for the steel to stand them back up. I sharpen my steel knives after maybe six uses of the steel. I sharpen my ceramic blade one for every five times I sharpen my steel blades on the oil stone.

This blade is made in Japan, where all the best work in ceramics has been done for decades now. This blade composition is far more pure than my old one. The finish is near perfect compared to my old one, which already made my steel blades seem uneven in comparison. And this blade, while brittle, is more flexible than the previous generation or any inferior make.

This knife is light; you can slice and mince for hours with less fatigue. The size is perfect for a wide range of jobs. The six inches gives you substantial size with maximum blade control. The three of this line would account for easily 80% of your knife work, maybe 90%. Lastly, I have a couple of guilty memories, finding a rust free steel blade a mess in a slight puddle the morning after a major cooking job where it was somehow mislaid in some dark corner. I polished for hours and often as not, not to my satisfaction. There is nothing you can do with these knives that you cannot with steel, unless it involves high voltage or sulphuric acid. They will not replace your boning knife or meat cleaver or pry-bar. But it is dang pretty even with the commercial grade handle.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program Ceramic kitchen knives have a number of benefits over standard metal blades: they maintain their sharpness for far longer, they do not pit if used with highly acid or alkali foods, and they have a lighter weight, leading to greater chef comfort if used for an extended period of cutting. The downside of ceramic knives is that they chip easily don't drop it, use it to cut frozen foods, or use it to cut bone-in meat/chicken. They're fine in the dishwasher if they won't hit against other items. Ceramic knives are simple to wash because the ceramic has such high density that it cleans up easily and quickly.

The Victorinox knife available here has a very effective white blade; I just cut several pounds of sushi into thin slices, using it instead of my usual Pure-Komachi, which has a stainless blade. I found the ceramic blade to work just as well, though I prefer the handle of the Pure-Komachi. The proper grip of a chef's knife involves placing ones fingers on the blade itself; the Victorinox handle design is such that there is greater comfort if you don't hold the knife in this manner but rather simply hold the handle. The blade gets five stars; the handle gets three, giving us a 4 star total.

Addendum: The knife lasted two months, before meeting its end as we used it to halve a delicata squash. These are thin-skinned varieties which are firm but which I wouldn't have expected to destroy the ceramic knife. My mistake. I'm leaving the four stars on the basis that the destruction of the knife was on me for not understanding its limitations. That said, and as lovely as the knife was to work with, I'll return to metal knives for now.

Further addendum: Although the knife was sent back to Victorinox with an explanation as to how the knife broke, I received nothing back from Victorinox no response at all and not even an email to say that the knife arrived. Customer service is at a low here; even if Victorinox felt that I was unworthy of a replacement, perhaps having determined that I received the knife as a review model, or maybe feeling that no right-minded knife bearer would use their tool on an unsuspecting squash, they had my email address. Send me an email telling me their side, so that I would stop wondering if the knife ended up at their Warranty Department where I'd sent it. Lousy customer service shouldn't be supported drop from 4 to 2 stars on that basis.

Al Mar AM-UC4 Ultra-Chef's Utility Knife, 4.75 in., Cocobolo Handle, Plain

Al Mar AM-UC4 Ultra-Chef's Utility Knife, 4.75 in., Cocobolo Handle, PlainI am very pleased with the performance of this knife. If you are new to high-end kitchen cutlery, you are in for a pleasant surprise. If you have yet to experience VG-10 steel and it's 60-62 Rockwell hardness I can only describe it as like cutting with ice. If you look closely at the edge of this knife, you see that it is mirror-like, not coarsely ground. I have five of these in different sizes, and while I'm also a fan of Global and Shun, I don't have five of either of them. To me, this knife is the perfect combination of Japanese blade tech with the looks of high-end German cutlery.

Wusthof Classic 3-Piece Essentials Set with Chef's Knife, Parer, and Shears

Wusthof Classic 3-Piece Essentials Set with Chef's Knife, Parer, and ShearsCustomer review from the Amazon Vine Program As a classically trained chef, I know the value of a good quality knife. A well balanced sharp knife will cut with ease, while a dull knife is more dangerous and requires working harder. Knowing this, I purchased and use an extensive set of Henckels, one of Wüsthof's major competitors.

The Wüsthof Classic 3-piece essentials set consists of an 8" Chef's knife, a 3.5" paring knife, and kitchen shears. The knives are forged from high carbon stainless steel into a well balanced knife. The blade and tang are constructed from a single piece of steel, with synthetic wood handles attached to the tang on each side with rivets. The kitchen shears are similarly constructed with plastic handles, which easily snap apart for thorough cleaning. All components are considered dishwasher safe, however hand washing is recommended.

From visual inspection, the Wüsthof and Henckel Chef's knives have a similar look. If it weren't for minor variations in the handle's curves, they would virtually look identical. The slightly more curvy handle on the Wüsthof feels a bit more natural, but neither feels significantly better in the hand. The Henckel Chef knife is noticeably heavier, but but only weighs .2 ounces more. I use a Henckel 3" paring knife, so Wüsthof's 3.5" knife isn't as comparable. However, they are both roughly the same length and have the same handle differences mentioned in the Chefs knife comparison.

The real differences are seen when comparing my kitchen shears. While the Henckel kitchen shears get the job done, the Wüsthof shears are superior. That's not to say Henckel doesn't offer a comparable version. However my Henckel shears don't come apart and the jar/bottle opener tines are plastic. Although, my manly fingers fit into the handles far more comfortably in my Henckels, while my fingers feel cramped in the Wüsthof shears.

Wüsthof promotes their PEtec (Precision Edge technology) as being 20% sharper than all other comparable knives. I'm not the average knife user, and I know how to maintain my knives sharpness. I can't gauge how much sharper they are compared to the Henckels if at all, but there is no question the Wusthof knives are amazingly sharp.

Pricing between both the Wüsthof Classic and Henckel Pro S knives are comparable. If I were trying to decide which brand to purchase, I'd feel comfortable purchasing either. If I were purchasing a starter set as a gift, I'd buy this Wüsthof Classic 3-piece essentials set as Henckels doesn't currently have a comparable set.

The Wüsthof Classic 3-piece essentials set includes the most used kitchen cutlery tools every kitchen should have. Wüsthof's quality will ensure this set lasts for many years when properly maintained. If you're looking to start your own quality knife set or need a wedding/housewarming gift, the Wüsthof Classic 3-piece essentials set is sure to please.

PROS:

Well balanced sharp knives

High quality construction

Dishwasher safe

Perfect starter set

CONS:

Shear handles too small for average man hands

This my first Wusthof and nothing can maintain a sharper edge (or be more dangerous both my son and I have nicked ourselves getting use to the sharper edge... ouch). The large knife is also very well balanced. Rather than start me off, this set actually finished my set (my other knives are Zwilling J.A. Henckels ... very good knives but not great like this one). Food sticks more to this knife due to it being flat edged rather than curved (but, there are no special sharpeners for the unusual blade). All three are now my favorite kitchen weapons. The shears are easy to take apart. Alas, I've dropped one side into something leaving a hole several times now. :-(

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program The kitchen shears is more or less average, but both of these knives are fantastic -they balance well in the hand, they are easy to manipulate, precise, sharp, and appear to be very tough. The handles are well constructed and sturdy. In particular the paring knife is a star -I haven't had such a nice one before and am really going to treasure this one. This would be a great housewarming or wedding gift, and it's made me eager to check out some of the manufacturer's other products. A+.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program This set of 3-piece essential set works as advertised. I particularly like the 8" Chef's knife which does a nice job in cutting and slicing with its very sharp and polished edge. I see a very noticeable difference when comparing this knife with my existing set. It provides a clean and smooth cutting job when we use it on meat or vegetables. The Wüsthof set comes with well constructed handles which give a comfortable grip. The kitchen shears also comes apart easily for cleaning.

Giftcraft Grape Cheese Pick

Giftcraft Grape Cheese PickI ordered three of these two for gifts, and one for us. The gift shop I used to work in sold similar cheese picks, but nice ones are so hard to find. Wusthof Grand Prix 10-Piece Knife Set with Block

Wusthof Grand Prix 10-Piece Knife Set with BlockAfter using a set of Henckels that I gave the folks, I found that my Gerber knives were too thick and didn't cut nearly as easily. Then I started researching the differences between the two top brands, Wusthof and Henckels. The knives are both nearly perfect in balance and cutting ability. The main differences are in the handle preference and finish. The Wusthof have excellent finishing, with no observed flaws. The handle design on the Classic Henckels isn't as refined as that of the classic Wusthof. The Grand Prix knives are razor sharp, wonderfully crafted, beautiful, and a real pleasure to use. They are pricey, but well worth it!

Knife, Serrated Bread & Bagel 8"

Knife, Serrated Bread & Bagel 8'This knife is amazing. I just got mine (gift) and it sliced through a thick loaf of oat bread, cutting in a very straight line with no effort. The knife seemed to slide effortlessly through the bread. The blade is slightly curved (like a samurai sword) and the cutting edge has an unusual serration. Maybe this is the secret.

I have to admit I am astounded at the one-star review. I don't know what kind of bread the other user was trying to cut, but I can't imagine that we are even talking about the same product. I cut all the bread I buy (I like thick slices and I also buy a lot of mini-baguettes and bagles) and have been looking for a long time for a knife. Even the expensive knives out there are failures (where did they get the idea that a bread knife should have a broad blade...which of course sticks and seized up in the bread!) and I have yet to find one half this good. This thing is great. I'm going to buy another one for a backup--I think it might work well on tomatoes, etc.

I am very disappointed this knife won't even cut through a fresh load of bread. I guess I got what I paid for.

These are unusual pieces of art that enhance any tabletop or cheese platter. My guests admired them and they were very easy to handwash and dry. Great conversation pieces!

These cheese knives were delivered before promised and they did not disappoint. I was a little concerned because they were not expensive, but they were good quality and I love the whimsical design. They do look hand forged (the handles), which is exactly what I was looking for. I served hard cheeses and softer cheeses, and they did the job with ease.

Fleur de Lys 6 Laguiole Rosewood handle knives

Fleur de Lys 6 Laguiole Rosewood handle knivesFirst of all: a true laguiole knife has three distinctive features: 1) the bumble bee on the top, 2) the letter L enclosed in a circle near the heel of the blade and 3) the rivets in the handle are in the shape of a cross. These knives are not laguiole knives though they are made to look like them. That said, these knives are decent. The rosewood handles are attractive though it lacks any burl and knots; the wood is pretty basic and plain -higher end knives use wood with more variety and grain. These are pretty much the straight grain running from blade to butt of the handle. The steel blade is average, reasonably straight, sharp and polished. I thought these were fine until I happen to handle a set of higher end steak knives in a store over Christmas. The polish and shine on the $200 set of knives I looked at is far greater and more reflective than these.

Overall, these are fine if you 1) need a lot of knives or 2) don't really want to spend the bucks to get a more decorative set or 3) don't know where Laguiole is and don't care! In my case, I got what I paid for and what I wanted. My comments are basically to say if you want high end knives, these are not for you.

I bought the knives after reading that a chef who used them personally recommended them. The knives are elegant and very sharp.

We were disappointed to see the "Made in China" sticker on the box and feel the very light weight of these knives compared to those that we bought in Thiers, France. The design is similar but they are a dramatically inferior product. They are probably only somewhat overpriced for what they are, but they're not Laguiole knives.

I had pretty much the same experience as Kecia Kesler. The knife case was coming part on two sides of the bottom edges. The craftsmanship was so so. And originally I was led to believe that the product was French made, but when I received the item, there was a made in China sticker on it. I am returning the item, I don't think it's worth the ~$100 I paid for it.

Zyliss Chef's Knife, 7.5-Inch, Blue

Zyliss Chef's Knife, 7.5-Inch, BlueFirst of all, I can't believe the price of this knife!! I've used it for all kinds of vegetables and am so thrilled to have such a sharp chef's knife on hand. It cuts through fish, (both the meat and the skin), flawlessly which is something I really appreciate in a busy kitchen environment. Fish skin isn't always so easily dealt with, especially when you're looking for a clean cut. The fact that it is blue and has a really nice blade cover just adds to the value for me. I think it's awesome to be able to buy a knife this versatile without spending $75 dollars or more. Perfect!!

This is a sensational knife! It is lightweight but slices thru anything. It makes me look like a pro as I slice onions, peppers, even thru a London Broil. I especially like the protective sleeve so it is safe in the drawer. I would definitely buy others of this type in different sizes. A must have for any cook and well priced, too!

I recently bought the Zyliss Chef Knife and I absolutely love it. The color is great like nothing else I have in the kitchen which makes it so easy to find in the drawer. It comes with a protective cover which keeps the knife sharp and me from getting cut. Easy to clean (you can put it in the dishwasher). Most of all, it works really well! I have used this on bricks of cheese, apples, pears, and onions and had no problem slicing and dicing. It's definitely my favorite knife!!

Cutco Classic Black Table Steak Knife #1759

Cutco Classic Black Table Steak Knife #1759I purchased a set of Cutco Knives more than 50 years ago and we are still using them. All have survived the 50 years except the steak knives all of which have lost their handles due to 50 years of daily use and abuse in the dishwasher.

I was happy to find them on Amazon. When it arrived we were amazed to find that it was exactly like the ones we purchased 50 years ago.

I have had these knives for over 2 years now and they are still going strong like the first day I got them. The handles are ergonomically designed so they fit in your hands really well. Cutco took excellent consideration in designing this knife because it is even balanced in weight. Dishwasher safe! These are knives to be proud of when setting your table and would make a great gift for anyone.

Jaccard ABS Safe Hands Mandolin Slicer with 7 Interchangeable Blade Cartridges

Jaccard ABS Safe Hands Mandolin with Seven Interchangeable Blade CartridgesI bought this because, as an engineer with a background in Safety, I thought the guard is exceptionally well designed. I tried the straight slicer, two of the juilenne blades and the serrated blade. I found them all so dull that they tore rather than cut the food. The cabbage in my coleslaw, well, I ended up cutting about half of it with a knife. I tried peppers, onions and celery, all of which looked chewed rather than sliced. The celery was really rough looking, strings hanging out all over the place. When I tried to slice sweet potatoes into rounds, they cut part way and broke off the rest. I tried all of the above both with and without the guard.

My fingers are intact, but I wrenched my back from all the effort that I had to use to get the food to slice, if you can actually call it slicing.

I was not impressed with this slicer at all!! The blades seemed very dull. It mangled an onion rather than dice it and the only way I could get a tomato sliced was to wiggle it back and forth over the blade without the guard. The guard is very cumbersome to use and would not work if you wanted long slices of things like zucchini. Needless to say, I will be looking for another slicer.

I haven't had much use with the device, so I'm sure it will get easier with time. Use and ease of cleaning is very simple for a first time user of a mandolin. However, the sliding mechanism is difficult to use if you want to slice a potato or carrot other than lengthwise, making it as "unsafe" as other mandolins. Unless the potatos are small, they don't fit in the sliding mechanism at all.

Not bad for the price, but still not as safe or useful as originally thought.

I found this difficult to use right out of the box. The sliding mechanism may be safer than other mandolins, but it is clumsy and hard to keep on track. The blades are not as sharp as advertised. I think this may suffice for an periodic use, but it has no place in a serious amateur kitchen.

On the plus side, it is very easy to clean.

I agree with all the other poor reviews, for the same reasons. It just doesn't do a very good job of slicing, dicing, grating; whatever this thing was designed to do, it doesn't do it very well. Bad toad, Jaccard!

IMCG GPJPAC Garnish Peeler + Julienne Peeler + Apple Corer Set

IMCG GPJPAC Garnish Peeler + Julienne Peeler + Apple Corer SetI finally got these and I am so pleased with them! I have used the IMCG GPJPAC Garnish Peeler & Julienne Peeler so far and I am impressed! I have made magnificent salads with julienne cucumber, julienne yellow squash, and julienne zucchini. I intend to julienne more zucchini and see what it is like as spaghetti! I have not used the apple corer set, by my friend suggested it and says without the corer she would never eat apples or pears because they make it so easy!
