Kuhn Rikon 4-Inch Nonstick Colori Paring Knife

Kuhn Rikon 4-Inch Nonstick Colori Paring Knife, PurpleThis is the best paring knife I have ever used. The blade is incredibly sharp and the handle is comfortable. And of course the color is fun and makes the knife easy the find in the drawer or the dish water. The case protects the blade in the drawer and makes it easy to take camping. The blade doesn't stick to anything, not even soft cheese. I have two myself and bought one as a gift. I would highly recommed this knife to everyone.

The Kuhn Rikon Nonstick Paring Knife is a very good value for a quality knife. We own several of these knives in different colors for use at home and in our shop. The different colors allow us keep the ones we use to cut materials in our workshop from accidently being used for food products.

The blade is *VERY* sharp and holds it's edge very nicely. The nonstick coating on the blade is a real plus as it helps to keep the knife clean as well as to keep it moving through thicker items. The snug fitting platic sheath is a welcome addition to safely store or transport the knife.

My only complaint is the light feel of the plastic handle. It isn't flimsy exactly, just lacks heft. This might just be a personal prefference issue and it hasn't stopped me from buying more of them.

Overall this is a very good paring knife at a reasonable price. Recommended!

I bought this knife at WilliamsSonoma retail store in Williamsburg, Virginia. It is an amazing paring knife and real sharp. I would definently suggest this to Culinary Students. My culinary program i'm enrolled in gave up "ok" paring knives. i decided that it was a time for an upgrade.

When I first received the product it appeared by looks and touch to be dull BUT I bought it originally to match my kitchen. I was out of clean knives so decided to try and WOW or WOW what an amazing product. On the expensive side yes..............but as long as they continue to cut like they do now........they have become the favorite knives in the house by the entire family. It cuts hard sharp cheddar cheese like butter!!

Oneida Satin Aquarius 20-Piece Stainless Flatware Set, Service for 4

Oneida Satin Aquarius 20-Piece Stainless Flatware Set, Service for 4Oneida silverware are the best in the market. Durable, stays in good visual standing for years and the warranty on them is excellent.

Very durable high quality silverware. I had a set I received as a wedding gift and wanted more to match. These were perfect except that the twist part has a satin finish instead of shiny like my other set but it still looks nice and the difference isnt really that noticable. These have lasted through the dish washer a million times and still look new. I will definitely by these again if we need more as they are very comfortable to hold and their weight feels very high quality. I hate silverware with pointy handles that jab into the palm of your hand when your trying to cut a piece of steak. Thank you for the best design i have ever seen on silverware, Oneida!!

Even though the fork is only so-so (too thick, not curved) the knife is fantastic. Very sharp and thin, will carve very thin pieces of pork loin, but still beefy enough to take on a breast bone of a chicken. En Garde!

I bought my first Wustoff Claasic knife over 25 years ago. I always hand-wash and dry them immediately.

Aftger giving my first purchase as a gift; I bought another set for myself. I am very happy with the consitent quality of this line of khives. They are milled from a solid-steel blank and have a full tang. The handle is ergonomic and the blade holds a good edge.

F. Dick knives are made in the same factory in Soligen Germany and can be interchanged with these knives without question. I prefer the Wustoff Classic line but my son likes the Shun Ken Onion knives better. (I'm a much better cook so go with what fits your hand.)

Oneida Flatware - Hwse Flight Dinner Knives, Set of 4

Oneida Flatware - Hwse Flight Dinner Knives, Set of 4I have the whole set of this pattern and had some of the knives get damaged. These were a direct replacement for my set, although the picture appeared a little different on the website. I am a little disappointed with the construction of the knives. They are a two-piece style with a seam between the handle and the blade. I put too much pressure on it and it separated. I am very happy with the rest of the Oneida set. Good quality finish and they are all solid pieces aside from the knives. I recommend Oneida for a reasonably priced set of flatware that will hold up to repeated use and washings.

These knives were nicer than I thought they would be. They are nice and heavy and have a real high quality look and feel to them. Only wish the rest of my flatware was this good!!

Shun DM0715 Classic 2-1/2-Inch Bird's Beak Knife

Shun DM0715 Classic 2-1/2-Inch Bird's Beak KnifeI have a lot of experience using various brands of kitchen cutlery, including some from relatively obscure Japanese manufacturers, and I truly believe that this is the best bird's beak knife on the market. The most important thing in selecting a bird's beak knife is sharpness, and Shun knives are certainly among the very sharpest on the market today. The only comparable knife that I have used is the Global bird's beak knife, but this one has a much more comfortable handle than the Global does. Additionally, the Shun bird's beak knife is balanced better than the Global, and significantly sharper than similar knives from Wusthof and Henckels. There is also a Shun Stainless bird's beak knife, with the only difference being the stainless steel handle. Although not every kitchen absolutely needs a bird's beak knife, I highly recommend this one for those that do want one for peeling tough vegetables such as turnips and for specialized decorative garnishing.

the bottom of the blade is to pointy near the bolster & you can cut your self real easy .

I like all my other knives very much . They hold an edge for a very long time.

I only buy Shun now .

Great for radishes and small items where the accuracy and control of the reverse curve blade are required. Also dynamite for removing the lead seal on wine bottles. "Sharp as a Shun" should be part of the vernacular. I love this bird's beak and use it more than I had imagined I would.

The bird's beak knife is often overlooked. I've never seen one included in a knife block set. Yet it has great utility and some unique properties. It's great for taking the stem portion out of tomatoes, strawberries, etc. It's also great for cutting perfect supremes from citrus. It certainly won't replace a good paring knife for all tasks, but it's a great addition to the kitchen and I use mine often.

Want Shun DM0715 Classic 2-1/2-Inch Bird's Beak Knife Discount?

This is as close to perfection as I have seen in a bird's-beak knife in more than three decades of professional and home cooking. It is wickedly sharp right out of the box. I mean sharp as a razor. If your knife skills are limited, be careful. The shape of the handle is Shun's idea of perfection and I must admit it works well, especially for a right-hander. The handle is longer than most, an advantage for both balance and control.

Maintaining the edge of a curved blade like this takes a bit of skill. If you aren't entirely sure of yourself, ask a more experienced friend to show you how to do so. It would be a tragedy to damage the fine edge of this little work of art.

The downside? Like all Shun knives, it is insanely expensive. Still, you get what you pay for so go for it.

Ginsu Shoku 05740 8-Piece Cutlery Set, Assorted Colors

Ginsu Shoku 05740 8-Piece Cutlery Set, Assorted ColorsLike most of the other reviews on this product. You're not going to get what you think you're getting. Wish I would have read the reviews, but it was one of those lighting deals and well... you know how those work. I got a blue knife set with one green knife. Not exactly a rainbow of colors. I was ordering this for my mom for christmas and she still wanted to keep it, because I got it for her, so I won't be returning it even though I'd like to. I'm so mad I'm leaving my prepositions hanging!

Just like everyone else has said, these are good knives, but not a good color mix. They apparently are randomly packaged. I got 4 pinks, 2 blacks, and one green. I didn't buy them for the rainbow colors, but the way they are packaged, it makes them look like they were purchased separately and put in the block rather than as a set. Would have been nice to get some blue and purple in the set too, as advertised.

They appear to be a pretty nice set. The slot where the sharpening steel goes is a little large and could be smaller to help keep the steel from bumping into one of the other larger knife handles. But over all it appears to be really nice, has a fairly nice balance to them. I have not used it long enough to see how the edge hold ups so maybe an update will be in order at a later time

Fairchild Red Cheese Knife

Fairchild Red Cheese KnifeI ordered this knife with reservation. How can a plastic knife work so well?

I was very pleasantly surprised at the results.

The knife is light weight , not sharp where it may cut you, yet sharp enough that it glides through cheese like with ease.I even tried it on a block of very thick hard cheese and it worked wonderfully. The layers on the knife seem to prevent the cheese from sticking to the knife.

Great find.

Classic Chai Dao Knife - 7"

Classic Chai Dao Knife - 7'This is a well-made knife. I expect no less from Wüsthof, and I'm pretty sure the build quality isn't your primary reason for reading a review. What you want to know is: how is it to use?

For comparison, I'll bring in my Shun santoku and Victorinox Forschner Fibrox chef's knife. The chai dao weighs just about the same as the santoku, and more than the Victorinox (everything weighs more than the Victorinox--but that's not a complaint). The balance at the bolster is excellent. The blade is just a shade thinner than that of the santoku, and wider than that of the chef's knife.

For dicing an onion or other softer vegetables, all three knives do a great job, and choosing one of them is a matter of whichever you find more comfortable to hold. I give the chai dao an edge on this (okay, pun intended) because I find the santoku a little uncomfortable to hold at the bolster, and the Victorinox definitely wants to be held by the handle. For dicing carrots, the Victorinox doesn't work as well as the other two because it's lighter, and the heft of the santoku and chai dao knives helps one get through the carrot.

For slicing chicken breast for stir-fry (or whatever you're making), the chai dao shines. When I slice meats I usually have a little wrist action involved as I pull across the flesh, and the curvature of the blade keeps the edge where it needs to be. The santoku's lengthened curve tends to pull away from the board for that, as does the chef's knife; the shorter blade length of the chai dao also seems better suited to this task.

For chopping herbs I find that I'll choose either the chai dao or the chef's knife. I think I like the chai dao somewhat better for this, but I'll need a few more trials to firm up that opinion.

I used the chai dao today to de-bone a pork shoulder I roasted, a task I wouldn't try with the santoku or chef's knife because they're just too long for the task. For the detail work I did finish with a boning knife, but the chai dao did a superior job taking the larger meat chunks off the bone with little effort involved.

So, in my kitchen at least, this is a very useful and usable knife from which I expect to get years of service.

Cambridge Silversmiths Codie 65-Piece Flatware Set, Service for 12

Cambridge Silversmiths Codie 65-Piece Flatware Set, Service for 12I am sorry to say the photo did not represent the product in its entirety. This flatware looks as presented in the current photo however if you turn it sideways you would see there is no back to it -if you turn in over completely you will see that it is concave. It is very lightweight and small in size it is very small for an adult male. It is a facade of nice looking silverware. I suggest that a side/back view of flatware should be a standard.

This is a decent and somewhat lightweight set. I would consider it a starter set, as others have mentioned, it is not very heavy or substantial. I have very small hands but someone larger might not like the feel of this flatware. This is a great price for a set of 12 flatware, though, and I must mention it does come with serving spoons, slotted spoon, butter knife, which is a nice addition.

My husband ordered this set for me the other day. It arrived today, and I will be returning it tomorrow. Most of the knives and a few forks have bluish/grey stains on one side of the handles the sides that touched each other in the original product box. In addition, two of the knives have small rust spots on one or both sides of the handle. It seems the material beneath the surface is of poor quality, and the flatware is of very light weight. The top coat is clearly of very poor quality as well. I wonder which metals the product is made of. Overall, this set is a great disappointment.

Fair price for the set, but not very heavy weight. Looks nice on the table though. This was purchased for my kids, and they liked the style, but again the weight was a little light. I am comparing to Reed and Barton, which I have a preference for, and was hoping this set would be comparabale. Cambridge does make some nice sets, as I have seen them in the past with nice weight....

Mercer Cutlery Genesis 5" Forged Utility Knife, Steel/Black

Mercer Cutlery Genesis 5' Forged Utility Knife, Steel/BlackThis is by far the very best knife I've ever owned. I treat it like a baby now, only hand wash and never put in dish washer. Can't say enough good about it, maybe the knives I've had in the past weren't good and I thought they were.

Just what I was looking for. This is just the right size (width and length) and weight,

with a good grip handle, for all those everyday uses,

for people who do not have large jobs.

I would even cut meat with it besides cut fruit or onions for cooking;

but when parring anything, watch your fingers; I always cut my

fingers with a new knife but the really good ones are worse.

I don't know if the price was right or not;

If I really like something I keep it forever.

And it's High Carbon-No Stain German Steel. Yeah.

I have Wusthof knives. They are great but the forged line is too heavy for my wrists. I searched and read about knife brands over a period of time, looking for other reputable knives. This utility knife is wonderful. The handle is thick, round and really gives you something to grip onto. It also has a very slightly squishy, rough, non-slip texture which I like the feel of. The blade is paper-cutting sharp out of the package and has been keeping the same sharp edge with honing. Other things about the knife are that the blade is tapered and the weight is mostly in the handle but the blade is light. Less weight in the handle would be good, but I enjoy it so am willing to look beyond that.

Russell 10 inch sashimi knife

Russell 10 inch sashimi knifeWOW!

I chose this Sashimi knife by Dexter Russell, Basics Series because of the price, but I got a lot more than I expected!

Culinarydepotinc.com sent the knife so fast I didn't even know I had it. When I opened the shipping package I was surprised to see a professional grade Sashimi knife. The look, feel, and weight were first class. This is a chiseled (single bevel blade knife) from Seki Japan. I'm sure this knife is used by many other distributor's under a different brand name, and sold at a much higher price.

The performance is of a professional commercial grade Sushi knife, but will require knowledge of how to sharpen a knife of this type. You will need a diamond, or ceramic steel/sharpener to maintain this knife at (9.5-12 degrees) at the very least. You should also know how to use a Tri-stone too. This is a first class product, and the seller was great!

I recieved my Dexte Russell Sashimi Knife and went straight to work with it. Its a little lighter than I normaly care for. Other than that, its a good little knife.

International Silver Smithfield 20-Piece Flatware Set

International Silver Smithfield 20-Piece Flatware SetI have gotten this set of flatware based on the picture and on the only review that gave a 5 star. I bought a set of Oneida Tuscany 20-Piece Flatware 2-3 years ago which is a couple bucks more expensive than this one. It is, however, much better in quality. I am quite disappointed with this set but I suppose with this price, I cannot expect TOO much (the spoons and forks are thin and can easily be bent). Hence I gave it a 3 star instead of 1.

Epicurean Gourmet Cutting Board with Juice Groove

Epicurean Cutting Surfaces 15 by 11-Inch Gourmet Cutting Board with Juice Groove, Slate CoreThis is an excellent cutting board. It's nice to have a large board with a juice groove that is dishwasher safe. I prefer wood for cutting non-bacterial stuff like produce, but this is perfect for things like poultry. I also used it to carve a rotisserre chicken, and was quite pleased. The one minor flaw is that I have a granite countertop, and unless I place a towel underneath it slides a little if I'm doing some serious chopping. But as it's meant to be usable on two sides, I don't mind very much.

The board is very light for its size and appears to be quite durable. And it's easy to clean.

But it has a very hard feel--more like cutting on glass or granite than on a traditional wood or plastic board. If you do any chopping, it sounds like machine gun fire. And if you do slicing/rocking with a curved chef's knife, it's still has a pretty harsh feel. I still haven't used it long enough to judge whether it really doesn't dull knives any faster than wood--but I have doubts, given how it feels.

Also, out of the box it had a horrible smell--like a wet dog wearing a wet wool sweater. But after a run through the dishwasher, it went away. Not sure if it will ever reappear (tho I note that Cook's Illustrated described the device as having a bad, lasting odor).

Buy Epicurean Gourmet Cutting Board with Juice Groove Now

I've had this slate w/ black juice groove board in the 13 x 18 size for 2 years now. It is our only cutting board and we use it for cutting meat, veggies, and bread. Really, it had only the faintest of cutting marks on it up until a month or so ago. It was at that time a month ago that I started using a heavy meat cleaver to hack through turkey necks for our dogs' raw diet. Yes, it's showing considerable marks from hacking apart over 50 pounds of turkey necks with that meat cleaver, as you might have guessed.

It has no stains on it, though I suppose we don't really cut anything on it that would stain it, but I thought it worth mentioning that it hasn't discolored at all. It is a bit of a hassle to store it in our cupboards so we leave it out all the time, propped up on our counter. When we first got it I washed it a few times in the dishwasher but it does take up quite a bit of space so now we just give it a quick wash in the sink, easy breezy.

It still is a handsome cutting board even with those meat cleaver hacks and we'll continue to use it.

**UPDATE** Well, when I used the meat cleaver to cut apart 50 lbs of turkey necks with this cutting board, it survived. The same can't be said when my husband helped me out by hacking apart 30 lbs of turkey necks for our dogs' raw diet... he can swing the cleaver a lot harder than I can to cut through a turkey neck in one swing. The cutting board has met its end, the top layer has been chopped and marked up enough that it has peeled up, revealing a composite-type material underneath the pretty exterior. We'll continue to use this cutting board for raw turkey necks but we had to get a new cutting board for other tasks. So, to make a long story short, don't bring a meat cleaver down hard repeatedly upon this Epicurean cutting board. Yes, we should have known better. :)

Sharp looking cutting board, especially for those with black or dark countertops. I bought two and leave them out. They look best when oiled occassionally. This size is too big for the dishwasher, but it gets washed after every use anyway.

The board is a bit slippery, so I put 4 silicome dot feet on the juice groove side. I normally use the flat side because it is easier to slide chopped food off into the pot that way.

The board is noisy when you chop.

I've read other comments from the other Epicurean cutting surfaces reviewed here. Most give this product high praises...and a handfull do not.

I like it, so far (two weeks at the time of this writing)...haven't had issues with marks or gouges, or an odd odor or warping as experienced by some. My theory (at least with minimizing marks/gouges) is that you need to have sharp knives when cutting/chopping your food on this product. The knife is supposed to do all the work, with minimal effort on your part. If you work through your food with ease, you minimize your forcing through the food, and thus avoid digging into your board. Look for a professional knife sharpening service and have your knives sharpened on occasion.

The Pampered Chef Limited Edition Cheese Knife (No Longer in Catalog)

The Pampered Chef Limited Edition Cheese KnifeI bought this with the expectation that it would be as cool as all the other Pampered Chef products. The knife function works fine for thicker slices, but the thin slicer is on the wrong side of the blade! I can't use it without crossing my arms over each other, holding the knife awkwardly backwards, or pulling the slicer toward myself which is also very awkward. I purchased this cheese knife with medium expectations, since it wasn't that expensive, but have loved my Pampered CHef products in the past. I am very happy with the knife. It easily slices through all different types of cheeses, and my parents, cheese "experts", commented how much they liked the knife as well when they tried it. An excellent value, would recommend to anyone.
