I researched many different knife drawers, blocks, and magnetic strips before choosing this exceptional knife drawer.

Seemed pricy when I ordered it, but or kitchen space is limited. This thing holds a ton of knives...and now our counter top is free of clutter. Also, I'm very pleased with the quality and workmanship. I had a drawer knive block before but it only held 7 knives-and now I realize was quite large. I had several extra knives just in drawer and was concerned someone might reach in drawer and get cut. So started search for knive holder that would fit in my drawer and hold more knives. Love this product. Similar size to my old one and holds twice as many knives. OXO Good Grips 6-1/2-Inch Santoku Knife

I use this knife to cut yams, stew meat, carrots, mangos and everything else. It cuts them nicely. I also use the OXO sharpener with it.

The most important thing is that it fits my small hands. And the Santoku style feels natural to use.

I work in a store that sells many brands of Santoku knives but didn't have anything small enough for me to have control. The knife rep taught us the major high quality brands will last 3x longer. I can see why, but if they are too long and awkward, that doesn't help me.

Kapoosh Knife Holders

When we moved into our new apartment, we went to IKEA and bought all sorts of furniture and household goods. This included an assortment of their knives. The only problem -the standard knife block that they sell would have had too many unoccupied slots; and the knife sharpener would not have fit into the block.

I read the reviews of other models of the Kapoosh knife block, and decided that it was worth a try. I am glad -it works very well. My overall experience is positive, but I have the same gripe that a few other reviewers have had: the knife block is only tilted by about 25 degrees, so that when you want to pull out a longer item (the aforementioned knife sharpener, or the 8" chef's knife), you need to move the block out from under the cabinets. I never had such problems with conventional knife blocks (or with the "Ex" knife block that I bought for my mother-in-law).

The knife block feels a little weird the first couple times that I used it. The gripping action of the plastic rods (bristles) is strange. I found that the best way to put the knives in is to turn the knives sideways, and then let the knife settle into its final resting place as you push it down (instead of trying to push/guide the knife to go down straight).

I reconfigured my items many times before I finally had them ordered the way I wanted. As it stands now, the upper area holds 5 knives, a pair of scissors, a knife sharpener, and a pair of chopsticks. The lower area is still empty right now -the steak knives will go there when I get around to buying them.

Having a number of santoku knives, large chef's knives, bread knives, etc. meant we needed several wooden knife blocks on the counter since none had more than 3 of the large slots. The Kapoosh holds everything we had in 2 large blocks -even my husband loves it. This purchase was a winner!

This knife block has been driving me crazy for years. I am finally going to get rid of it and get another one.

The problem is that there is not enough space inside to insert long knives all the way in.

If you could remove some of the little black things to make more space it would be perfect.

But as it is, the 3 long knives (that came with the block so you'd think they would fit) can only be inserted about halfway, leaving the top half of the blade sticking up out of the block.

That makes the whole thing so tall it won't fit underneath our cabinet. And, every time you try to put a long knife in you have to really jam it down to get it even partway inserted.

So stupid that the knives that COME WITH the block DON'T FIT INSIDE IT.

also, it is not true that you can take it apart to clean it. The insert simply will not come out, even after unscrewing the screw in the base (which was not easy since there isn't really room for a screwdriver) it does not come out. Even after banging on it with a hammer.

I love the versatility of this and that I'm not restricted to predetermined slots. Since I don't have an entire set of knives, but a hodge podge of single knives, this was the perfect solution for me. I really wanted a magnetic strip for my knives, but with three small children, it didn't seem to be the safest way to go without a locking cabinet around it and I couldn't find anything that was within budget that was like that.

The Kapoosh is nice in that you can put any assortment of knives in varying lengths and shapes and handle styles and they all fit. I haven't run out of room in it yet, but from reading other reviews, if I ever fill it up to the point where no new knives fit, I'll break off a few rods to make room.

It's probably not possible, but it would be nice if it wasn't so extremely bulky. I can't picture how it would look if it was a bit more compact for the amount of knives it holds, but it seems like something could be done to lessen its girth a bit or at least offer more space for the overall footprint of it.

That being said, it's still a great item and far better than my old method of tossing all my knives in to one drawer, which is not exactly the safest thing to do!

Sage Non-Skid Carving Board

J.A. Henckels International Forged Synergy 7-Inch Hollow Edge Santoku

This knife has grantons (hollow spots) ground on only one side of the blade -the side that shows in the packaging. The flat side sticks like any non-granton blade. The blade is also a bit thick for a santoku, more like a 7-inch forged chefs knife.

Very sharp knife with a nice large handle which I like. Problem is that the hollow edge is on only one side and is on the Lt. side which makes it useless if you are Rt. Handed. Overall the knife is sturdy and comfortable for my large hands. I don't feel like I have to rest my fingers ontop of the blade at and the the handle curves nicely for a comfortable grip.

Considering the high expectations I had from this knife, I feel completely let down. Nowhere does it say the hollow edge is only on one side, and that too the side appropriate for left handers. This is the same side that is visible in the packaging and the other side is flat a fact that does not leave a very good impression of the company. Don't buy unless you are left handed. Otherwise, the knife is sharp, and thus the 2 star rating.

This is the first and only knife I bought in my entire life. I have developed a passion for cooking during the last 6 months, and I hated the knifes that we had at home, because they weren't good enough. So I decided to go with this henckels. Magmates Magnetic Knife Rack 300mm

Moving into a smallish condo so kitchen counter space is limited. This arrived quickly from the vendor in great condition with all needed parts intact. It is easy to mount to the wall and the rubber cover snaps right on, fitting well without having to force it. There is no metal to metal contact with the blades.

There are five wonderfully strong magnets that hold our 4 Henckels steak knives, 3 smaller bladed Kuhn Rikon prep knives, and one larger (6") Wusthof knife. We could fit one more smaller knife on if needed.

Have not noticed any cuts or scratches from removing knives & is easy to clean. It is not an eyesore and love the little 'eye wink' logo that greets you each time you reach for a knife. Great product; hope that Amazon will eventually carry replacement covers which come in lots of primary colors. If we need a second will definitely purchase this little guy again.

Magnets were very weak and knifes dropped causing damage to the knife and counter. Poorly designed product. Cheap product for $20 and would not recommend. I am going to look for a more professional magnet holder.

Victorinox Cutlery 4-Inch utility Knife, White Polypropylene Han

For many of my cooking tasks, I find I need a sort of "in between" knife. I love the Victorinox chef's knife, but often the task at hand doesn't require a knife that big. I love the paring knives, too, but often am chopping or slicing, so the paring knife is not quite enough. The 4-inch utility knife is my Goldilocks knife -just right!

The first time I used it, I was chopping sweet bell peppers, something that's often frustrating; if the skins are just a little bit tough, many knives don't deal with them well. I end up having to rearrange the slices I've cut with the inside facing up to chop through them readily, a hassle and a time-waster. Not so with this knife! Its super-sharp blade sliced through cleanly and quickly with almost no effort. It was also a handy size for cleaning and cutting up the peppers to prepare them for chopping. From there, I moved on to the onions, then to the finely chopped garlic (I was making chili), and it performed equally well with all. The handle is a little small and light, but fits comfortably in my hand, and in combination with the thin blade, it makes the knife very maneuverable.

At first I wasn't sure I liked the white color, but now I appreciate it because it makes the knife stand out among all the black handles in my knife block, which is just what I want, since it's become the first one I reach for almost every time. For the money, you really can't beat this knife. Get it along with the Victorinox chef's knife and you just might find that instead of a drawer full of so-so knives, you can become a 2-knife cook. Gerber 46001 Take-A-Part 8-Inch Game Shear

I bought these to replace a pair of Cabelas brand shears. Those shears did not come apart and the pivot nut kept coming lose, making it difficult to cut off the wings and feet of the birds we shoot.

Right away I was impressed with these shears. We just went through cleaning 41 pheasants last week, cutting off wings, legs & heads, then cutting out the backbone, and we had absolutely no problems. These shears made quick work of the job of cleaning the birds so we could get on with enjoying the rest of the evening. I highly recommend them.

These shears are a must in our kitchen anymore. We use on all meats great on quail, pheasant and I can cut up a chicken however I want to grill halves, quarters, piece by piece with very little effort. They come apart and can wash in dishwasher....would never be without a pair again.

I purchased these for rabbit hunting. When I pulled them out of the shipping box I was a tad skeptical. The grips and blades are more substantial than standard scissors, but would they cut through rabbit bone? Well, I went out and got a few rabbits last weekend and they cut through the legs, pelvis and neck with little effort. I think they will work just fine for rabbits as well as the bird hunting I plan to start doing. Also, as a plus, since the blades can be taken apart, cleaning is a snap.

I've been a paramedic for 15 years, and these are close to being almost a 'must have' for every paramedic. They cut extremely well, almost too well. I wish Gerber would listen to me, because with a few tweaks, every Paramedic, EMT, and Firefighter would own these. Unfortunately they are so sharp at the tips, that they always end up cutting through the nylon sheath. I've had at least 10 pairs of these, I only buy new ones when I lose the old ones. I've owned earlier pairs, which had a harder nylon case, but the belt loop was too weak, and broke. Both designs are flawed. The scissors should also come with blunt tips. These are great for cutting through just about anything. Unfortunately that also means skin, so be careful if cutting off someones clothes. (Hence the tips need to be blunt, not sharp points.) In this configuration, they also make a decent weapon, if needed. If Gerber would a)make a better nylon sheath, with stronger belt loop, and a blunt tip, these would be perfect. I still love them and will take them in their current configuration, because they are sharp, they have never lost an edge, and they cut through anything. Even Chicken bones. Great Scissors!

The price on here is much better and fair consider that Wal Mart had them for $19.99 which was over board for these. Also they have the Gerber name on them but they are made by Fiskas who also make those unbreakable ax's? I see that an big improvement on them would be to increase the blade length.

Victorinox Cutlery 3-1/4-Inch Wavy Edge Paring Knife, Large Black Poly Handle

Forget the cheap grocery store paring knives. This knife works better, is easier to handle, and is more accurate than other knives that sell for as much as 10x the price. I love these knives but they are extremely sharp especially when brand new almost like a razor blade!! Use a cutting board, don't cut toward your hand or fingers (I know we should all know this but speaking just for myself I don't always follow this rule and have cut myself a couple of times!). I probably shouldn't tell this but have also used these knives to cut through plastic and rubber. The bread knife is also a must have and works great for slicing bagles as well as soft and hard breads. Dishwasher safe and stay sharp even after MANY years of use.

This knife cuts well except for the fact that the blade doesn't seem to stay straight when you cut with it. This is especially noticeable when you are cutting something hard like a carrot. Instead of the blade cutting straight down it cuts at an angle. I actually wound up cutting my figure because of it. I returned the first knife, thinking that I had just gotten a knife with a crooked blade. However, the replacement is doing the same thing.
